Life After Work

30th October 2025

Read it.

It’s natural to feel anxious as we approach the inevitable automation of all human labor. Economic theory suggests that full automation will cause wages to collapse, potentially below subsistence level: the bare minimum needed to sustain human life.

Yet the full automation of the economy will probably also make most people vastly better off. Plummeting wages will coincide with sharply rising standards of living, rapid medical progress, and an explosion in the variety of goods and services that people can choose from.

This may appear paradoxical. How can people prosper even as their wages collapse?

The answer lies in recognizing that wages are just one source of income. People also earn income from investments, collect rent from property, and receive government transfers like pensions or welfare payments.

Today, the majority of people get most of their income by selling their labor. This is what makes wages a good proxy for the standard of living in a given region—at the moment. But full automation will break this pattern. Future humans will likely have low wages, yet they’ll command vastly greater wealth and wield far superior technology than we do today.

To get a glimpse into what this future may look like, it helps to first understand how similar technological revolutions have unfolded in the past.

Guardian Ramps Up Efforts to Ban All Climate Dissent

30th October 2025

Read it.

No green activist operation makes clearer why they need to ban free speech and cancel scientific debate to achieve Net Zero hegemony than the Guardian newspaper. Last Saturday, we learnt from its Environment Editor Damian Carrington that campaigners had said the UK’s TV and radio regulator Ofcom was allowing GB News and others to ‘flout” accuracy rules and broadcast “climate change denial”, whatever that last phrase means. Carrington noted in response to frequent suggestions of inaccuracy in UN climate models going back to 1979, that, “in fact, UN climate models have been remarkably accurate”. How Carrington, one of three journalists of the year in 2023 at the Green Blob-funded Covering Climate Now, can write this with a straight face is anyone’s guess.

Canadian Scientist’s Secret Work on Wuhan Bat Virus Could Have Caused Covid, New Revelations in Book

30th October 2025

Read it.

In his new book Under Assault, historian and former Canadian national security analyst Dennis Molinaro uncovers evidence that Chinese-Canadian scientist Dr. Xiangguo Qiu secretly collaborated on a 2019 Wuhan “bat filovirus” research project that some Western intelligence agencies — including the CIA, with varying degrees of confidence — assess to have likely caused the COVID-19 pandemic.

While The Bureau has previously reported on Qiu’s links to Wuhan’s “Batwoman,” Shi Zhengli, Molinaro’s findings — drawn from redacted CSIS records, open-source intelligence, and parliamentary disclosures — take the case significantly further, situating Qiu’s compromise within the broader escalation of Chinese intelligence collection in Canada since 2000, and highlighting Ottawa’s conspicuous lack of capacity — or will — to enforce against Beijing’s incursions.

Bloodbath: Widespread CBS News Layoffs Hit Major Shows, Longtime Correspondents

30th October 2025

Read it.

Wednesday was a grim day at CBS News as reportedly around 100 people were axed as part of long-rumored layoffs numbering 2,000 people across its parent company Paramount Skydance. The ranks of those let go were vast and deep with both remaining CBS Saturday Morning hosts shown the door, correspondents with decades of experience (and all women), its Race and Culture unit, and even two entire shows.

Most notably, CBS Saturday Morning co-hosts Dana Jacobson and Michelle Miller were reportedly let go, along with their executive producer Brian Applegate. Miller had been with CBS since 2004 and Jacobson since 2018.

While the New York Post said the show will be “slated for a radical revamp,” The Los Angeles Times’s Stephen Battaglio reported Wednesday afternoon the show would live on with “a new format that will align it closer to the weekday show.” Either way, it was unclear as of Wednesday night whether a final episode will air of the current format.

California’s Retirement Fund Lost 71% of $468M Investment in Clean Energy and Won’t Say How

30th October 2025

Read it.

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) lost roughly 71% of its $468 million investment in a clean-energy and technology private equity fund – and won’t explain how. The losses highlight growing concerns about the pension giant’s private equity strategy, which relies heavily on opaque, illiquid investments and leaves taxpayers ultimately on the hook.

According to state records analyzed by the Center Square, the CalPERS Clean Energy & Technology Fund (CETF), launched in 2007, has seen its value fall from a total commitment of $468.4 million to $138 million as of March 31, 2025. That represents a loss of more than $330 million, even after paying $22 million in fees and costs to private equity managers.

CalPERS’ overall returns for fiscal 2024–2025 were 11.6%, with public equities returning 16.8% and private equity 14.3%. The similar performance between the two asset classes has raised questions about whether the complexity and cost of private equity are worth it.

Time to leave.

Migrant Sex Offender: I Tried to Hand Myself in but Police Ignored Me

30th October 2025

The Telegraph (UK)

A migrant sex offender has claimed he tried to hand himself in to police after being mistakenly released from prison but was ignored by officers.

Hadush Kebatu, 41, told Sky News he approached police officers on the morning after his release from HMP Chelmsford, told them who he was and asked to be taken to a police station but claimed he was ignored.

He made his claims in an interview with Sky News on his arrival back in Ethiopia on Wednesday morning after being deported from the UK on an overnight flight.

It came after it emerged that Kebatu had been paid £500 by the Home Office to take the deportation flight after threatening to lodge an asylum claim to block his removal.

Kebatu, who was jailed for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old, was wrongly released from HMP Chelmsford on Friday instead of being transferred to a immigration removal centre, leading to a 48-hour police manhunt.

Migrant Murdered Lloyds Bank Customer After Asylum Application Was Refused

30th October 2025

The Telegraph (UK)

A Channel migrant has been jailed for at least 25 years for murdering a bank customer shortly after his asylum application was rejected.

Haybe Cabdiraxmaan Nur, a Somali national who paid €400 (£350) to travel to Britain last year, attacked Gurvinder Singh Johal, 37, with a kitchen knife at a branch of Lloyds Bank in Derby.

The 47-year-old had called the charity Migrant Help less than two hours before the killing, which happened at about 2.30pm on May 6, saying he was “going to kill 500 people”, Derby Crown Court heard.

He later suggested he was going to target “doctors, police or people working at the Home Office”.

Nur had claimed asylum in October last year but his application was rejected by the Home Office because he had arrived “voluntarily”, a decision he later appealed against.

Over 100,000 ‘Asylum Seekers’ in Germany Were Already Safe in Greece

29th October 2025

Read it.

Asylum seekers are presumably safe once upon their arrival in Greece. Yet thousands upon thousands are continuing their journeys to Germany anyway.

New data—revealed as part of a response to a parliamentary question from the Green Party—show that well over 100,000 migrants with protection status recognised in Greece have reapplied for asylum in Germany.

Of these, around 45,000 came from Afghanistan, 36,000 from Syria and 12,000 from Iraq. Somalia, Iran, and Sudan are also listed as countries of origin, while the nationality of around 5,000 individuals remains unknown.

But Greece is poor, and Germany is rich. Follow the money.

Charlie Kirk, Scapegoat

29th October 2025

The American Mind.

The assassination of Charlie Kirk puts to rest the dreamy hope that President Trump’s 2024 election was the final word on identity politics in America. The revolutionary faction he defeated at the ballot box walks not by argument, but by faith. It is a faith that the innocent victims of the world cannot rest until the racists, misogynists, homophobes, transphobes, Islamophobes, extremists, fascists, authoritarians, Nazis—and now the (Israeli) colonizers—are purged.

For more than a decade, we called this faith “cancel culture.” But cancellation was never going to be enough. In the end, the dark inner logic of identity politics requires a literal purging of those identified as “toxins” from the body social. Identity politics is, as I have written, “the spiritual eugenics of our age.” To achieve this always-receding goal of purity, a scapegoat must be found upon whom to lay the sins of the world. Charlie Kirk became that scapegoat.

The Republican political victory of 2024 notwithstanding, identity politics remains the reigning theodicy in all of our public American institutions; it is the established church of the American elite, whose parishioners rage and mock the majority of impure American citizens, who themselves are awakening to its bloody logic. One America mourns a martyr for Christ. Another America celebrates the purging of a scapegoat.

Dark Money, Sanctuary Cities, Left-Wing Terror, and the War on ICE

As we observe National First Responders Day, let us honor those who protect us every day—and give extra support to those with the courage to reestablish law and order while confronting defiance, violent discord, and even domestic terrorism.

A coordinated, dark money-funded far-left movement is targeting and attacking one law enforcement agency in particular: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. In doing so, it’s jeopardizing the lives of ICE officers.

Federal prosecutors have charged violent rioters for attacking law enforcement in urban areas across the nation.

How Venezuelan Regime Is Supporting Radical, Left-Wing Groups in US

29th October 2025

Read it.

Venezuela’s regime is coming under increasing pressure from the Trump administration for using the cartels it controls to smuggle drugs into the United States. Last week, President Donald Trump said he had authorized covert CIA actions inside the South American country, a significant escalation.

But Caracas’ transgressions extend to other areas. It has also long backed efforts to sow political division on U.S. streets. First, it supported Black Lives Matter and its founders. Now, it’s Antifa.

Indeed, you can tell a lot about which domestic anti-U.S. groups are rising by the support they get from our enemies overseas, especially Venezuela, but also Iran, Cuba, and China. That Venezuela is diversifying into “anti-fascism” is yet another sign of how diminished BLM has become.

Media Wail About Federal Layoffs, but Check Out Disparity Between Public and Private Sector Job Security

29th October 2025

The Foundry.

Within the first two weeks of the ongoing government shutdown, agency heads reportedly sent permanent layoff notices to about 4,000 federal employees under the guidance of Director of the Office of Management and Budget Russ Vought. But compared to the private sector, this is a proverbial drop in the bucket.

The partial lapse in government funding has dragged on for 27 days now as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and 44 other senators continue to block the “clean” government funding measure that the House passed in September.

As a result of the funding lapse, Vought says that 10,000 federal employees could ultimately face permanent layoffs.

For context, a reduction in force of 10,000 would only amount to about 0.3% of the roughly 3-million-person federal civilian workforce.

For further context, about 0.3% of the private sector workforce faces layoffs and discharges every week.

So far, I wouldn’t have noticed Chuck Schumer’s government “shutdown” if it hadn’t been in the newspapers. The plaintiff claims she was not informed about the potential risks, demanding €250,000 in damages, €17,200 in lost earnings and an additional €600,000 for future impairments. AstraZeneca had not listed thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) as a side effect at the time, though it was added to the product information in March 2021.

Welsh’s heinous comments came in reaction to a video from conservative YouTuber Kaitlin Bennett, where she interviewed a liberal extremist at a so-called “No Kings” protest who praised Charlie Kirk’s assassination. The extremist also told Bennett that she might want her dead as well.

Climate Nostradamus Bill Gates Calls Eco-Doomism ‘Wrong’

29th October 2025

One of the most notorious billionaire pontificators on the climate change boondoggle just did an about-face and told the eco-extremists screeching Armageddon to take a chill pill.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates shocked the political sphere by completely skewering the leftist narrative that we’re all going to die from climate change in a few years in an October 28 blog post.

Gates first outlined the doomist narrative: “‘In a few decades, cataclysmic climate change will decimate civilization. The evidence is all around us—just look at all the heat waves and storms caused by rising global temperatures. Nothing matters more than limiting the rise in temperature.” Then came the kicker: “Fortunately for all of us, this view is wrong. Although climate change will have serious consequences—particularly for people in the poorest countries—it will not lead to humanity’s demise.”

Okay, who is this guy and what did he do with Bill Gates?

Wallace Absurdly Claims No Democrat Has Ever Compared Trump to Hitler

29th October 2025

Newsbusters.

On Monday, MSNBC host and podcaster Nicolle Wallace welcomed Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker to The Best People for a truly surreal interview. Within the span of only a couple of minutes, Wallace would declare that no Democrat has ever compared President Trump to Adolf Hitler, then claim that if they did, it would be appropriate, and then sit back and listen as Pritzker did precisely that, all while claiming he wasn’t.

Pritzker’s conceit was to say that he wasn’t suggesting that Trump would throw people in death camps, but that what Trump is doing follows a similar authoritarian playbook to one the Nazis used to amass power. With that in mind, Wallace claimed that the Nazi comparisons are completely appropriate.

New York Times Campaigns for Mamdani by Hurling ‘Islamophobia’ at Opponents

29th October 2025

Newsbusters.

As Election Day approaches, the New York Times has passionately defended New York City’s socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, changing the subject to accusations of “Islamophobia” when one of his opponents (either former Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo, or Republican Curtis Sliwa) dares to bring up Mamdani’s history of hostility toward Israel and abject failure to condemn the terrorist group Hamas, and his membership in the Democratic Socialists of America, an anti-Semitic organization.

They’re openly campaigning for the socialist. Late on Tuesday morning, Times reporters Matthew Haag and Dana Rubinstein posted “Attacking Mamdani’s Muslim faith, Cuomo has played to voters’ fears”.

Often the Mamdani cheerleading appeared high in the headline deck, as in Emma Fitzsimmons’ report on Sunday: “Vance Criticizes Mamdani’s Comments About Islamophobia After 9/11 — Zohran Mamdani said the vice president’s attack on social media was one in a series of “cheap jokes about Islamophobia.” Opponents “pounced”!

As we have been writing about for the better part of the last 2 years, growing electricity needs from artificial-intelligence data centers are pushing tech giants back toward nuclear power.

On Monday, NextEra Energy and Google announced a deal to restart the Duane Arnold Energy Center near Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which closed in 2020 after 45 years of operation. The 615-megawatt plant is expected to return to service in early 2029 under a 25-year power purchase agreement with Google, Reuters reported.

Shares of NextEra rose more than 1% after the announcement. The move adds to recent nuclear-supply arrangements tied to hyperscale cloud operators, echoing plans at the former Three Mile Island facility in Pennsylvania aimed at Microsoft data centers. As we have written about extensively on Zero Hedge, companies including Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have also signed agreements to buy future energy from advanced nuclear projects such as small modular reactors and fusion systems.

Number of Escaped Monkeys Still Missing Rises to Three After Jasper County Truck Crash

29th October 2025

Read it.

Animal rights group PETA issued a statement following the crash, calling the escape a clear example of what it described as the risks of the “greedy monkey experimentation industry.”

I’ll bet you didn’t know that there even was a ‘monkey experimentation industry.’

The original article said that all of the monkey’s but one had been ‘euthanized’, suggesting that one had been held back for interrogation. Fortunately, that appears not to be the case.

Young Workers Will Pay the Price for Chicago Mayor’s Employee Tax

28th October 2025

Read it.

This economy is one of the toughest job markets for entry-level positions, and now, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is advancing new tax hikes in his budget that will make it even more difficult for Gen Z workers to build lives and careers in the city.

As he unveiled his third budget last week, Mayor Johnson took to a familiar tactic to fill a $1.15 billion budget shortfall: new taxes, higher fees.

The target of his worst tax hikes this time is the business community—and if history is any indicator, results are poised to be disastrous. Johnson announced he’d revive the city’s long-defunct business “head tax,” charging businesses with over 100 employees—such as McDonald’s, United, and other large firms—a $21 per employee per month fee.

Second-tier cities, including Raleigh, Baltimore, and our neighbor Milwaukee, have positioned themselves as technology hubs and are courting businesses and attracting young workers with affordable cost-of-living and well-paying positions.

Time to leave.

Top Economist Mohamed El-Erian on Trump Tariffs: We Were All Wrong!

28th October 2025

Read it.

One of America’s most influential economists finally had the moxie to admit what any American with half a brain could see about the Trump tariffs: The elitist, stuck-up doom prophets were all wrong.

Wharton School Professor of Practice Mohamed El-Erian joined the October 27 edition of Fox News’s America Reports to discuss President Donald Trump’s ongoing tariff negotiations with communist China. “What the U.S. has managed to achieve on tariffs was something most economists didn’t think was going to happen,” El-Erian told co-anchor Sandra Smith.

We thought there would be massive retaliation against the U.S. — there hasn’t been. Europe, the U.K., a number of Asian countries have all signed framework agreements. The only outstanding ones are India, Canada and China and there’s clear progress on China,” El-Erian continued.

The Left’s Never-Ending Outrage Machine

28th October 2025

Read it.

The Democrats appear to be a never-ending source of pitiable entertainment these days. Last week, it was the pathetic “No Kings” (what some mischievous wag called “No Brains”) rallies across the country. Those 2,700 anti-Trump therapy sessions for aging, anencephalic boomers were funded to the tune of $294 million by such public-spirited individuals and entities as Arabella Advisors, the Tides Foundation, George Soros, and Warren Buffett. Such streams of cash funneled millions through dozens of left-leaning entities, including the American Civil Liberties Union, the National LGBTQ Task Force, the Sierra Club Foundation, the Democracy Forward Foundation, and other havens for the perpetually aggrieved.

It was a noisy but preposterous temper tantrum, full of sound and fury, signifying stupidity. The union of Kumbayah gestures with rage-filled pantomimes was both inadvertently comic and repellent, the odor of rotting pseudo-idealism wafting over the proceedings everywhere.

The insurmountable problem all of those protestors faced was the incontrovertible fact that Donald Trump is not a king. He is a duly elected president who handily won both the Electoral College and the popular vote. He campaigned precisely on the issues that the unhappy pot-bangers and sign-wavers bewailed: closing the border, expelling illegal migrants, dismantling the woke DEI apparat in academia and the federal government, and resuscitating and Americanizing the U.S. economy.

House Oversight: Biden’s Executive Actions With Autopen ‘Illegitimate’

28th October 2025

Read it.

The GOP-led House Oversight Committee on Tuesday called on the Justice Department to investigate every executive action taken during the Biden administration.

The committee said it found evidence that some of former President Joe Biden’s orders and clemency decisions may have been issued without his personal approval.

In a 91-page report released early Tuesday, the committee said its investigation found no record that Biden authorized several executive actions, including presidential pardons and commutations.

Bernie Sanders Challenges Bezos, Amazon on AI’s Job Impacts

28th October 2025

Read it.

Sen. Bernie Sanders on Tuesday called on Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos to account for what the Vermont independent said were hundreds of thousands of potential lost jobs due to automation.

Bezos doesn’t answer to you, Bernie, unless you’re a stockholder–and then, not directly. It’s his company, not yours.

“If Amazon succeeds on its massive automation plan, it will have a profound impact on blue-collar workers throughout America and will likely be used as a model by large corporations throughout America,” Sanders wrote in a letter to Bezos, which was exclusively reviewed by Reuters.

Yup. New technology is like that. Machine tools eliminated a lot of jobs for blue-collar workers. We survived and prospered.

Sanders, who caucuses with the Democrats, was referring to a New York Times article published earlier this month that cited documents and interviews showing that Amazon executives believe 500,000 jobs could be cut over time by replacing warehouse workers with robots. Amazon employs 1.55 million people, the majority of whom are hourly workers.

That’s socialism for you, standing in the way of progress.

Shock New Report Lays Out the Full Scale of Environmental Damage Caused by Onshore Wind Turbines

28th October 2025

Fresh insights into the ecological devastation caused by onshore wind turbines around the world are contained in a shocking new paper published last month by a group of ecologists in Nature. The paper is paywalled and has attracted little mainstream media interest, but it highlights research that illustrates that the effect of utility-scale wind energy production “can be far reaching and sometimes have large and unexpected consequences for biodiversity”.

A bronze statue of Confederate Gen. Albert Pike, toppled and burned by demonstrators in 2020 protests, has been reinstalled in Judiciary Square.

Crews placed the statue Saturday, surrounded by fencing and signs reading “Historic preservation work in progress,” Channel 4 in D.C. reported.

The Department of the Interior said the restoration follows President Donald Trump’s directives on restoring historic monuments, citing compliance with federal preservation law and executive orders promoting the beautification of the nation’s capital.

28th October 2025

A Dallas-based doctor has surrendered her medical license following a lawsuit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in 2024, accusing her of illegally prescribing gender transition drugs to minors.

Paxton announced on Oct. 24 that Dr. May C. Lau has given up her state medical license but that the legal case over her alleged violation of Texas’s ban on gender transition treatment for minors is still ongoing.

“May Lau has done untold damage to children, both physically and psychologically, and the surrendering of her Texas medical license is a major victory for our state,” Paxton said in a statement.
