On “Progressivism” and Barbarism

5th September 2025

The New Neo.

Just today I discovered this essay written in December of 2023 by Benjamin Kerstein. It’s entitled “The rise of barbaric progressivism,” and subtitled “Antisemitism, racial hierarchy, violence, and an alliance with radical Islam have seized the commanding heights of the movement.” The phenomenon has only become clearer and more intense since then, but it was already apparent. What sounds as though it might be an oxymoron – “progressivism” allied with “barbarism” – is nothing of the sort. Instead, it is perhaps inevitable, a built-in feature of the former.

Netherlands Weighs Pepper Spray After Migrant Murder of Teen

5th September 2025

Read it.

The Dutch justice minister is considering lifting the country’s decades-old ban on pepper spray after the murder of a 17-year-old girl by an asylum seeker ignited public anger over immigration and the government’s failure to protect its citizens.

Justice Minister David van Weel told parliament he is exploring whether civilians, particularly women, should be allowed to carry pepper spray for self-defence. The small canisters, which temporarily disable attackers, are currently classed as prohibited weapons under Dutch law. Possession can result in hefty fines or even a criminal record.

The debate follows the killing of Lisa, a teenager who was fatally stabbed on August 20th while cycling home near Amsterdam’s Johan Cruyff Arena. Prosecutors have charged a 22-year-old migrant with murder and rape. The man, whose identity has not been confirmed because he lacks documents, was already suspected of sexual offences before the attack.

Democrat Extremism Underwrites Trump

5th September 2025

Read it.

Trump’s 2024 victory was a landslide in swing states and states between the coasts. However, Trump’s win in the popular (below 50%) and in the electoral votes (312-226) was hardly historic. Nor did he bring home large congressional majorities: Republican control of the Senate (by six votes, 53-47) and House (by five votes, 220-215) do not approach past presidents’ majorities.

Yet Trump took office governing like FDR in his first 100 days. Now into his third “hundred days,” Trump is still doing so. And this is a president who was twice impeached and once defeated: No impeached president has ever been reelected (let alone a twice-impeached one), and the last time a defeated president was reelected occurred over 130 years ago.

How is this continued momentum possible? Democrats’ extremism is making them even less popular.

Sharia Law? US Police Dept. Introduces Arabic Patch

5th September 2025

Read it.

A police department in Michigan has introduced a uniform patch that has Arabic writing on it, prompting fierce backlash.

Dearborn Heights Police Department is believed to be the first in the country to have a patch with a language other than English.

Reports indicate that the patch was designed by an Officer Ermily Murdoc, who claims to have created it to “reflect and honor the diversity of our community – especially the many residents of Arabic descent who call Dearborn Heights home.”

Dearborn is often called “Fallujah West”.

Study: ‘No Global Acceleration of Sea Level Rise’

5th September 2025

Read it.

A new study conducted by a Dutch engineering consultant found that the average sea level rise in 2020 was around 1.5 millimeters per year, “significantly lower” than the 3 to 4 millimeters often projected by climate scientists and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Hessel Voortman and researcher Rob de Vos checked actual observations of more than 200 tide stations against projections and models.

“It is crazy that it had not been done. I started doing this research in 2021 by doing the literature review. ‘Who has done the comparison of the projections with the observations?’ And there were none,” Voortman told independent journalist Michael Shellenberger.

Cuomo Blows Up Erroneous ‘Genocide’ Claims Pushed by ‘Scholars’ & CNN

5th September 2025

Read it.

On the Wednesday edition of his eponymous NewsNation show, host Chris Cuomo took a rare swipe at his former employer, CNN and seemingly storied chief international affairs correspondent Clarissa Ward for giving attention to a dubious group of purported “scholars” who claimed Israel was carrying out a “genocide” against Palestinians in Gaza. Cuomo blew up the erroneous accusations by pointing to the facts on the ground and how the group weren’t actually scholars and broke their own regulations in order to reach their conclusion.

Sick Freaks Protest Outside Catholic School in Defense of Trans Shooter

5th September 2025

Read it.

In the wake of the tragic mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, where two children were killed and 17 others injured by a deranged transgender identifying individual, a small group of lunatics have sparked widespread outrage by protesting, apparently in defense of trans ideology.

The group positioned themselves directly across the street from the school, where the children were attacked as they prayed,

They heckled Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha as they arrived at the church Wednesday to meet with victims’ families and pay respects. The ‘protesters’ held signs reading “Hate Won’t Make America Great.”

Crazy ‘trans’ people won’t make America great, either. In what respect shooting kids praying doesn’t qualify as ‘hate’ escapes me.

The Return of “Transportation” Sentencing? Australia Seeks to Ship Illegal Aliens to Small Pacific Island

5th September 2025

Read it.

It has been 157 years since the last ship taking convicts from the United Kingdom landed in Australia.

Now, in a crushing historical irony, Australia is contracting with the small Pacific island of Nauru to resettle foreign-born criminals who the courts have ruled cannot be imprisoned indefinitely. The court rulings show how our allies are facing the same dilemma in dealing with people who enter the country illegally and then oppose efforts to deport them for years in litigation.

They used to transport them to America, but the 1776 kerfuffle squelched that trick.

I hear that Uganda is in the market for prisoners….

Krugman Claims Trump Will Worsen Housing Crisis Exacerbated by Biden

5th September 2025

Read it.

It’s pretty hilarious to read economic dunce-in-chief Paul Krugman squawk over President Donald Trump having supposedly worsened a housing crisis that the columnist’s beloved Bidenomics drastically exacerbated in the first place.

Trump is reportedly considering declaring a national housing emergency later this year, as major unit shortages and high rates on 30-year fixed mortgages continue to rankle homebuyers.

Krugman is the poster child for the notion that Economics Is The New Astrology.

Britain’s Descent Towards Civil War Is No Accident

4th September 2025

Read it.

Having lived in Australia for the past three years, I sense that this country is the least advanced down the road towards the multicultural dystopia confronting much of Europe.

That is not to say there is room for complacency: Australia has its own canaries in the coal mine, echoing trends observable across the Western world. Yet relative prosperity, firm immigration policies, a distinct welfare regime (mandatory health insurance, means tested pensions), a robust federal system, and above all a unique electoral framework of three-year cycles and compulsory voting all help, willy-nilly, to keep politicians on a short leash and broadly tethered to the popular will.

The greatest safeguard against social fracture and disintegration in Australia, however, is not institutional design but rather watching Britain implode in real time. Many Australians, still bound by ties of kinship and tradition to the old country, see in the United Kingdom both a cautionary tale and an anti-role model: a once-settled, relatively harmonious state busily teaching the world how to dismantle itself through the enthusiastic embrace of liberal dogma.

Seattle’s UW Professors Shift to Private Emails to Hide Their Political Campaigning

4th September 2025

Read it.

In a new op-ed Seattle talk radio host Jason Rantz exposes how University of Washington faculty—through the American Association of University Professors (AAUP)—are deliberately trying to keep their political organizing out of public view. The evidence comes from an email circulated by Abraham Flaxman, a UW professor, forwarding AAUP leadership’s warning that:

“Emails that are sent to an employer-issued email address could be accessed by the employer or be subject to records requests from legislators or members of the public, putting our members’ privacy at risk.”

As Rantz points out, this isn’t about privacy in the ordinary sense—it’s about making sure “taxpayers—or the media—[don’t learn] about the ideological activism they push under the guise of academic freedom.”

New Apple TV Show Glorifies Liberal Woman Profiling “Right Wingers” for the FBI

4th September 2025

Read it.

Leftist organizations like the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center have been saying for decades that “conservative extremists” are the biggest domestic terror threat in the US. Of course, the ADL and SPLC have been oddly quiet when it comes to the multitude of leftist related shootings and terror attacks in recent years, including several transgender related mass shootings since 2018. These incidents don’t fit the progressive narrative mold.

You will likely never see a TV series based on government agents scouring the internet for left-wing extremists plotting potential mass killings, even though there is an endless gold vein of real life story material to be mined for such a show. Until Donald Trump took office this year, it’s highly unlikely that the FBI was looking into woke zealots with any seriousness.

The focus of Hollywood propaganda, the focus of government propaganda and the focus of NGO propaganda has long been the demonization of conservatives, red pillers, anti-feminists, militia members and “white supremacists” (essentially anyone against mass immigration from third-world nations). Overtly political productions are crushing Hollywood’s profit margins because they still operate on a model that treats the “right wing” as a fringe minority. In reality, the right wing is the majority.

Apple TV apparently still hasn’t gotten the memo, or, they’re releasing content today that they started shooting years ago and it’s too late to turn back. Their latest series, The Savant, is set to be released this month and the trailer has gone viral on social media, but not in a good way.

Young Turks’ Ana Kasparian Is What Happens When You Hate Israel So Much You Fail Math

4th September 2025

Read it.

The Young Turks co-host Ana Kasparian made a complete fool of herself when she let one of her anti-Israel brain drain episodes affect her so much she tried to convince the world America spends more on Israel than Social Security. Kasparian went on a tear against Daily Wire editor emeritus Ben Shapiro during the September 2 edition of CNN NewsNight for correctly suggesting that America’s massively inefficient approach to Social Security would bankrupt the country.

Kasparian, clearly triggered, was livid that Shapiro didn’t focus on what she considered to be the real culprit behind America’s debt bomb. “I totally reject what you just said about how we’re going bankrupt because of Social Security? Really? You don’t think the trillions of dollars that we spent on wars in the Middle East might have something to do with that?” She proceeded down the logical toilet, crying over how “we’re spending hundreds of billions of dollars on Israel — on Ukraine.”

Seriously, a simple Google search would have cleared this right up.

The 65-Year-Old Theory That Helps Explain Why the Democrats Keep Losing

4th September 2025

Vox, a Voice of the Crust.

Democratic strategists think the party has a messaging problem. Post-election autopsies overflowed with countless cross-tabs of how Democrats “underperformed” with demographic after demographic. There are endless debates about which words poll better (should Democrats stop using “microaggression”?) — as if anybody were even listening.

Third Way’s “Signal Project” exemplifies this paralysis. The center-left think tank launched an 18-month project to identify which Trump actions are “most relevant to key voters.” Their profound discovery? “Shuttering USAID, using government power to attack political opponents, firing indiscriminately, degrading the civil service, releasing J6ers, or blaming Ukraine for the Russian invasion all are a combination of unwise, unethical, illegal, or unconstitutional,” according to Axios. “But none resonate much with key voters.” Who knew?

Should we say “working families” or “working people”? Frame ourselves as “Team Normal” versus “Team Extreme”? Who notices? House Democrats test “America is too expensive” versus “People Over Politics.” Say “poor,” or say “economically disadvantaged”? “Addiction” or “substance use disorder”? Who cares?

Yet, leading Democrats seem to think that if only they spend another $50 million to identify the right message for lost working-class voters, they can “win them back” (tellingly, the “them” in the “Win Them Back Fund” gives away the flawed premise of the project).

ApoB and Causality in Heart Disease

4th September 2025

Watch it.

Nick Norwitz discusses a problem with modern scientific discussions that has implications for modern political discussions.

Most scientific studies these days deal with correlation, and the studies themselves acknowledge this by using terms such as ‘linked to’ rather than ’causes’, which would be an overreach. Dimwit journalists, many of whom ought to know better, jump right in and claim “X causes Y” and then head off into the stratosphere in laying down “things we must do to prevent Y”.

Dimwit journalists even cut out the middleman and go from “X is linked to Y” to “Therefore in order to prevent Bad Thing Y we must ban X, which is insane.

Look at the news and you can find all of the evidence of this that you might desire.

New Evidence Reveals Who REALLY Invented the Wheel

4th September 2025

Watch it.

These people make a very plausible case, using both historical and physical evidence.

The invention of the wheel was a significant step in the advancement of human society, to the point that ‘reinventing the wheel’ has become a common phrase. Neolithic societies, although they had tools and fire, the previous steps in technological advancement, sometimes didn’t make it to the wheel–the first nations of North America, for example, for all the sophistication of the MesoAmerican civilizations, lacked this key feature. (If they had, I suspect that Cortez would have encountered an unpleasant surprise in 1519.)

Blue State Blues: California Legalized Drugs. Cartels Took It Over.

3rd September 2025

Read it.

Six years after California legalized marijuana, the bodies keep piling up. Earlier this year, six men were murdered in the Mojave desert. Four of the Latino men had been burned after being shot with rifles. In 2020, seven people were killed at an illegal pot operation in Riverside County.

Violence like this was supposed to disappear after legalization. Legalization advocates argued that making the drug trade legal would end the grip of the cartels. Instead the legal market has failed and the cartels are taking over sizable parts of California and the rest of the country.

California’s legal drug revenues have fallen consistently as have those in other legal drug states including Colorado whose model helped sell the idea that drug money would fix everything.

Despite falling revenues, Colorado legislators brag about $282 million in drug revenue. That number may sound high, but it’s a drop in the bucket considering the money that the state and cities like Denver are spending on homelessness, drug overdoses and law enforcement.

1472 Wild Boar? How?

3rd September 2025

Read it.

A new report covered by the BBC projects Scotland’s wild boar population will rise by over 60% in fifty years, from a precise 1,472 to about 2,400. This startlingly specific number—1,472—raises an obvious question: how can anyone count these elusive, nocturnal animals so exactly?

The answer is that it’s not a direct headcount. The figure is a scientific estimate derived from a population model. Researchers combine data from field surveys—tracking signs like rooting damage, droppings, and tracks—with footage from camera traps and information from organised culls. This data helps scientists build a robust statistical picture of the population, with the precise number representing the most likely estimate within a probable range.

This modelling is essential because wild boar are famously secretive, spending their days hidden in dense forestry. Without these methods, gauging their numbers would be pure guesswork.

The report’s projection also hints at a deeper story. Given that a sow can produce two litters of up to ten piglets annually, a rise of only 1,000 animals over 50 years seems surprisingly low. This modest increase suggests that significant population control is already a key factor in the forecast. The model anticipates that current management efforts will continue to temper the boar’s explosive reproductive potential.

This is where organisations like the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) play a vital role. They argue that supported, active management is crucial to keeping populations stable and mitigating damage to agriculture and the landscape. They promote the humane culling of boar and offer Wild Boar Certificate courses to train hunters in safe, ethical, and effective practices, ensuring culling is conducted responsibly.

Furthermore, BASC advocates for greater promotion of wild boar meat as a nutritious, sustainable byproduct of this necessary management, creating a incentive for keeping numbers in check.

The core takeaway is that the number 1,472 is less about a perfect count and more about establishing a baseline for a necessary conversation. The real focus is on ensuring structured, humane management continues to balance the presence of this iconic species with the needs of the Scottish countryside.

UK Camp Rejects Disabled Boy Over Mother’s Gender Stance

3rd September 2025

Read it.

In the UK, it’s not just the well-known who get punished for gender-critical views. It turns out that even disabled children are considered fair game by the powers that be.

Consequently, a disabled eight-year-old boy, whose rare condition requires round-the-clock care, was banned from a summer camp designed for families like his after his mother responded to an application form asking for her son’s pronouns by saying: “Seriously?”

In a call initiated by the charity months after this application was submitted, a clinical director tried “explaining the importance of pronouns at our camps,” but the mother insisted that people could not change sex. The family was then told in an email, sent moments after the call, that their application had been unsuccessful.

Following a backlash online, the charity has claimed the child and his mother were turned away not because of the mother’s views but because of how she expressed them on the phone. Free Speech Union official Connie Shaw said this was “classic” backtracking.

“It would appear that he blindly and gratuitously attempted to strike people,” Bessone said.

An Uproar Over Facts

3rd September 2025

s

In a recently published essay, famed British evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins notes the parallel between today’s pseudoscience regarding gender, and 1940s-era Soviet pseudoscience regarding genetics. In our own era, activists demand that we reject scientific principles of biological sex insofar as they prevent men from announcing themselves as women. In the USSR, similarly, Joseph Stalin’s scientists were instructed to reject principles of biological inheritance that contradicted the communist dream of remaking the natural kingdom (humans included) according to Marxist-Leninist dogma.

The scale of the damage wrought by these two movements is vastly different, of course. (Stalin’s junk science—championed by a crackpot autodidact named Trofim Lysenko—resulted in disastrous agriculture policies and widespread famine that killed millions.) But the overall pattern of ideologically programmed delusion is the same: Where scientific reality and fantasy are in conflict, it is the science that must be sacrificed, not the fantasy.

In a contribution to a new collection of essays on the misuses of science, Dawkins details the fate of Soviet scientists who initially resisted Lysenko’s program. They were publicly denounced at an infamous 1948 session of the Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences, where Lysenko and others railed against “reactionary” (which is to say, ideologically non-compliant) theories of biology. In keeping with the strange Soviet practice of categorising dissident ideologies with lengthy hyphenations (the “Zinoviev-Kamenev deviationists,” etc.), the preferred communist slur for heretics in the field of genetics was “Mendelist-Morganist-Weissmanist” (a term referencing legendary scientists Gregor Mendel, Thomas Hunt Morgan, and August Weismann)—roughly analogous to “TERF” in the idiom of modern gender ideology.

A Tunisian culture-enricher ran amok today in Marseille with several knives, wounding at least five people before he was shot dead by police.

The BBC makes it sound like the alleged perpetrator, a man named Abdelkader D., was simply a disgruntled patron who had been evicted from a hotel and returned with knives to exact his revenge. However, François de Souche reports that he shouted “Allahu Akhbar” (which is Arabic for “I am a culturally marginalized person who has been made to feel excluded from French society”) while he was stabbing people (see the video posted by François de Souche on Twitter).

DOJ Sues Illinois Over Student Financial Aid for Illegals

3rd September 2025

The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit challenging an Illinois law that provides student financial aid to illegal immigrants, arguing it “plainly violates federal law” by unconstitutionally discriminating against U.S. citizens.

Last month, Gov. JB Pritzker, a Democrat, signed a bill amending the Retention of Illinois Students and Equity Act, known as the RISE Act, to expand eligibility for state-funded scholarships, grants, stipends, and other financial aid administered by local governments and public universities to illegal immigrants in Illinois who are not eligible for federal aid. The law goes into effect on Jan. 1.

Illinois has more than 27,000 illegal immigrants enrolled in higher education, according to data from Higher Ed Immigration Portal.

The Black Farmer: If You Think Rural Britain Is Racist, You’re Wrong

3rd September 2025

The Telegraph (UK).

Another year, another report on “racist” rural Britain. Every few months, a new piece of research seems to emerge based on anecdotal evidence that our countryside is a hostile place for people like me. I am under no illusion that racism is alive and well in Britain today, but having spent the first 40 years of my life in inner city Birmingham and the last 27 in deepest Devon, my experience is rather different from the one often peddled by these reports.

The latest, from the University of Leicester, says racist abuse is “tolerated or even normalised” in rural areas. Most participants say racism in rural England “is getting worse”, pointing to low levels of visible diversity. I’d agree that visible diversity is still a problem (and have thoughts on how to improve access to landowning – namely, have institutions like the Church of England and the National Trust give up some of their vast swathes of land), but I think branding our countryside as racist is a mistake.

My life as a farmer is peaceful and productive. I am embedded in a community that looks out for me. I have raised a family and built a successful business here. My story completely contradicts the popular opinion that someone who looks like me wouldn’t be welcome in the English countryside, let alone making a life here.

U.S. Amphibious Landing Exercise Underway in Puerto Rico as Tensions With Venezuela Mount

3rd September 2025

The War Zone.

As the U.S. deploys an armada of ships and aircraft to the southern Caribbean, at least partly aimed at Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro, the U.S. Navy and Marines are conducting an amphibious landing training exercise in southern Puerto Rico. While the U.S. Marine Corps does not make any mention of Maduro or Venezuela in its media release about the exercise, the move comes as tensions are mounting between Washington and Caracas over the flow of illegal narcotics. The Trump administration considers Maduro a “narco-terrorist” and has raised the award for his arrest to $50 million. You can catch up with our most recent reporting on the Caribbean deployments here.

Meanwhile, the U.S. carried out a lethal strike in the southern Caribbean against a drug vessel that departed from Venezuela and was operated by a designated narco-terrorist organization, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on X this afternoon, following comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump. Striking this vessel points to a new kinetic angle to this effort, a major escalation.

U.S. Strikes Venezuelan Drug Boat in the Southern Caribbean

3rd September 2025

The War Zone.

The U.S. military has conducted a “lethal strike” in the southern Caribbean against a drug vessel that departed from Venezuela and was operated by a designated narco-terrorist organization, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on X. His comments came moments after U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters that “over the last few minutes [the military] literally shot out a boat, a drug-carrying boat, a lot of drugs in that boat.” The incident took place as Trump has dispatched at least eight warships to the region to fight drug trafficking.

Quotation of the Day

3rd September 2025

Rory Sutherland:

One great thing about Donald Trump: He’s not a lawyer. He’s not an economist, and he’s not a lawyer. I know that sounds like fairly faint praise, but actually the extent to which the legalistic mind or the economic mind have dominated political decision-making and government policy is completely disproportionate. It’s created, as I said, you know, this kind of HR-ification of the Democratic party, where it’s all about codification and internal consistency. Now, this value of consistent theory, that’s kind of a middle-class educated shibboleth. You know, the idea that you absolutely have to be consistent. This is going back to the beginning of the conversation, you can’t be completely consistent because what is actually rational is very very context-dependent. Sometimes you should actually back down, sometimes you should be highly concilatory, sometimes you should get angry.

Hell Frozen Over? CNN Legal Analyst Admits Trump May Have ‘Cause’ to Axe Fed Governor

2nd September 2025

Newsbusters.

CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig turned heads on the August 29 edition of The Arena when he actually upended the media meltdown over Trump’s act supposedly being illegal. Honig noted that “there is some suspicious activity here that’s really problematic by Lisa Cook.”

Cook has been accused of falsifying bank records in order to secure more favorable loan terms. Honig, concurred, noting that “[n]ow, why would someone do all this? Because you get better interest rates. Because you get better tax benefits. That can be worth tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

In his estimation, Honig concluded that “the allegations on their face could be enough for a judge to say, ‘Look, I’m going to defer to the president on cause.’”

You know something’s up anytime you get an analyst from the TDS-afflicted CNN to agree with Trump on anything.

NY Times Front, Beyond Parody: ‘Black Women Are Among the Hardest Hit’ by Trump Cuts

2nd September 2025

Newsbusters.

The headline on the front page of the Labor Day New York Times, “Black Women Most Affected By Trump Cuts,” was silly enough in its wokist immersion. but the online headline deck — “In Trump’s Federal Work Force Cuts, Black Women Are Among the Hardest Hit — President Trump has cut hundreds of thousands of jobs from the federal work force, disproportionately affecting Black employees” — was even more amusing.

It brought to mind the old joke about a hypothetical Times headline after nuclear Armageddon: “World Ends, Women & Minorities Hardest Hit.” (The paper’s reputation for knee-jerk liberalism goes back decades.)

The immediate suspicion is that these were DEI hires that were ill-qualified in the first place other than their sex and the color of their skin. That competent managers would get rid of them first is hardly surprising.
