The New Civility

20th June 2025

Power Line.

I was just talking about how media in Minnesota coddle local Democrats, to their detriment once they reach the national stage. Just twenty-one minutes later, the Minneapolis Star Tribune comes out with another article to prove my point.

It took four (count ’em, 4) Star Tribune reporters to create the story headlined,

Walz pivots from saying Democrats need to be ‘meaner’ to calling for civility after shooting.

Don’t worry, Tim! All is forgiven! An actual sentence from the article,

Walz never matched President Donald Trump’s willingness to mock and insult his political adversaries.

That Walz is not as skillful at it is obvious, but not for lack of willingness or effort. The article quotes Walz calling his opponents “dipshit,” “Gestapo,” “dictators,” “despots” and asking his supporters to “bully the shit” out of his Republican opponents. Curiously, the Star Tribuneomits Walz’ use of the term “Nazi.” Perhaps they just ran out of room.

The Star Tribune attributes the new (however temporary) civility to Walz and to him alone. And when Walz reverts to form, he’ll be described as “feisty” or “combative” or the like.

We have always been at war with Eurasia.

On the Trans Frontier

20th June 2025

Power Line.

I am undoubtedly lacking in imagination, but the trans campaign seems to me the final frontier of the left’s war on nature. It is akin to the axioms of the Party in 1984: War Is Peace. Freedom Is Slavery. Ignorance Is Strength. To these we can add: Men Can Be Women. Women Can Be Men. It’s Your Call. As in 1984, the whole point is to shove it down our throats and demand our silence.

The left is relentless. The Tennessee case was a weak front on which to pick a fight. They will be back for more, sooner rather than later.

Reminder: Iran Has Been at War With Us for 46 Years

20th June 2025

The Ayatollahs handed back the Embassy hostages before Reagan was inaugurated because they knew he would not be the hand-wringing incompenent that Carter was. American Presidents since that time have ignored that causus belli because they were surrounded by agents of the Deep State who didn’t want to rock the boat.  Time to pay the check.

Democrats Can Say ‘Hitler’ All Day Long, Forget ‘Fact Checkers’

20th June 2025

Tim Graham.

The “No Kings” rally against President Trump on June 14 featured several angry speeches from Democrats. Mediaite had this story: “Eric Swalwell ‘Trump Is America’s Hitler’ Remark at Rally Sparks Viral Outrage.” That gaseous D.C. speech was easily ignored by PolitiFact and those “independent fact-checkers.”

Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) says this repeatedly, and Mediaite added it’s a regular line from Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.). A while back, Fox News host Neil Cavuto offered some mild pushback: “So you don’t think that’s a little hyperbolic?” If we compared Clyburn to a mass-murdering dictator, would that be “a little hyperbolic”?

Two months ago at a similar “Hands Off” rally, Swalwell offered the same schtick to excite the leftist crowd: “This is what kicking the s—t out of fascism looks like!”

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz can rant at a law-school commencement ceremony that ICE is “Trump’s modern-day Gestapo,” and no one pounces on the Nazi smears.

You can put “Hitler” in the search engine at PolitiFact and you won’t find them ever doing a fact check that says “Trump is not a carbon copy of Hitler” or “our immigration law enforcement personnel are not the Gestapo.”

However, on June 18, PolitiFact’s Madison Czopek was throwing flags on Walz’s behalf after the horrific assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband in their home. The Patriot Oasis X account was ruled “False” that “Governor Tim Walz has DELETED every post he made praising Minnesota (assassin) Vance Boelter.”

The Iran Trap: Everyone Wants Americans to Fight Their Wars for Them

20th June 2025

Read it.

One of the defining aspects of Ukraine’s strategy in the war against Russia is escalation – Not so much in terms of damage to Russia, but in terms of western involvement. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky has made it his primary mission to convince western allies that their direct intervention in the war is absolutely necessary. Why? He asserts that Ukraine is the “guardian at the gate” supposedly preventing Russia from steamrolling through Europe.

The Cost of Restoring Order in Los Angeles

20th June 2025

Read it.

Already ravaged by wildfires earlier this year, the city is now dealing with violence toward law enforcement, incendiary devices, arson and more. And all of that is on the heels of years of seemingly endless, rolling Covid lockdowns under Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass. The latter had the effect of shrinking revenues and thus staffing levels across the city, putting Los Angeles – America’s second-most populous city – in a unique financial and logistical position as it faces a summer of more disorder.

A record-breaking era of overtime pay is likely to keep costs high as police, fire and other first responders carry out their duties.

The cost to taxpayers isn’t limited to California or Los Angeles, though. City officials have alternately declared the protests peaceful and claimed they had them well in hand, and then also admitted they were “out of control” and that the LAPD was “overwhelmed.” Regardless of the varying protestations and the outright legal and political battle being waged by Newsom, President Trump has taken control of the state’s National Guard to defend federal property and officers. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has allowed that it’s likely a 60-day investment with an accompanying $134 million price tag for federal taxpayers.

That’s all before we factor in the cost of duking it out in federal court as Newsom seeks to stop the President from utilizing the Guard.

Kellie Carter Jackson Wants White People to Work For Reparations

20th June 2025

Newsbusters.

This Thursday on CBS Mornings, the show highlighted a segment about the celebration of Juneteenth, a recently recognized federal holiday that observed the final emancipation of slaves in the United States was enforced in Texas, two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. While it has been celebrated in black culture for decades, it recently picked up attention in mainstream culture and media due to the day being memorialized in legislation signed by former President Joe Biden in 2021.

While undoubtedly the ending of slavery in the United States was a victory for freedom, the segment on CBS quickly unraveled from logical conversation into the argument that white people should celebrate the holiday by pushing for reparations.

The panel consisted of hosts Gayle King, Nate Burleson, Tony Dokoupil, and Professor and writer Kellie Carter Jackson to discuss celebrating the holiday. The conversation started normal enough, with Jackson recounting different historical traditions of the holiday and explaining how she involved her children in understanding slavery in an age-appropriate way.

GOP Senators Briefed on Plan to Obliterate “Toxic” Green Subsidies, Dismantle Climate Heist on US Treasury

20th June 2025

Fossil fuel advocate Alex Epstein delivered a hard-hitting briefing to nearly all Senate Republicans on Wednesday, emphasizing that the Inflation Reduction Act’s “toxic subsidies” for the green energy industry—totaling billions—must be “terminated.”

“Today I got the opportunity to speak to almost all Republican Senators about the IRA subsidies at their Wednesday lunch,” Epstein wrote on X late Thursday.

He said, “The discussion was private, so I won’t tell you what the Senators said. But you better believe I told them the subsidies are toxic and need to be terminated!”

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, commented on Epstein’s post by saying, “I was there. As always, Alex Epstein was full of deep and helpful insights.”

US Military Aircraft No Longer Visible at Base in Qatar

Dozens of US military aircraft are no longer on the tarmac at a major US base in Qatar, satellite images show – a possible move to shield them from eventual Iranian air strikes, as Washington weighs whether to intervene in Tehran’s conflict with Israel.

Between June 5 and 19, nearly all of the aircraft visible at the Al Udeid base are no longer anywhere in plain sight, according to images published by Planet Labs PBC and analyzed by AFP.

Nearly 40 military aircraft – including transport planes like the Hercules C-130 and reconnaissance aircraft – were parked on the tarmac on June 5. In an image taken on June 19, only three aircraft are visible.

Alleged Iranian Plot To Assassinate Trump Heads Through Federal Court

20th June 2025

Read it.

An Iranian murder-for-hire conspiracy targeting President Donald Trump has quietly wound its way through federal court, with a pre-trial discovery conference scheduled for next week.

The proceedings, postponed to this point because of a lengthy discovery process, will take place on Tuesday. While the discovery materials will not be made public, the government is expected to set trial dates during the conference, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.

The case centers on Farhad Shakeri, an “Iranian asset” who openly told the feds in a phone call from Tehran that he was seeking ways to off Trump on behalf of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to a criminal complaint filed in November 2024.

“No Kings”, Except for the Bureaucrats

20th June 2025

Read it.

Over the weekend, thousands of anti-Trump advocates gathered for “No Kings” protests across the country, but their aims were not directed at constitutional norms; instead, they are engaged in a protest against the President’s authority over the Executive Branch.

The chief issue in Washington since the second Trump inauguration is whether the commander-in-chief is empowered to control the Executive Branch, which houses nearly all federal agencies.

The Vesting Clause answers that question with absolute certainty: The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America.

In response to the Trump administration’s efforts to abolish the government’s vast censorship apparatus, however, Democrats and judicial activists offer an anti-constitutional alternative for the country: The power to fire taxpayer-funded bureaucrats or reduce their funding shall be vested in no person.

Revealed: The Most Tax-Friendly State In America Where The Ultra-Wealthy Are Flocking For Business

20th June 2025

Daily Mail (UK).

Wyoming is rapidly establishing itself as a top destination for ultra-wealthy individuals and businesses, drawn by its tax advantages and high-end real estate market.

As one of nine US states with no state income tax, Wyoming offers significant financial incentives for affluent residents.

Additionally, the state’s Dynasty Trust laws allow families to transfer wealth across generations while avoiding estate, inheritance and state income taxes – further solidifying its status as a tax shelter.

The state’s appeal is amplified by its business-friendly environment and low property taxes, attracting both individuals and companies seeking to minimize their tax burdens.

‘Wyoming is the most tax-friendly state,’ Latham Jenkins, a real estate agent with Live Water Jackson Hole told Realtor.com. ‘Retirement benefits are not taxed at the state level, and it’s one of the most business-friendly states in the nation.’

It would be even better if it weren’t shackled to our dysfunctional Federal regime.

Anti-Aging Drug Extends Life as Effectively as Restricting Calories

20th June 2025

Read it.

For centuries, humans have searched for ways to extend life. Alchemists never found the philosopher’s stone, but scientists have consistently shown that a longer life can be attained by eating less – at least in certain lab animals. But can we find a way to live longer while still enjoying our food?

Compounds that mimic the biological effects of dieting could be the answer, and the two most popular diet-mimicking drugs are rapamycin and metformin. In a new study, my colleagues and I found that rapamycin prolongs life almost as consistently as eating less, whereas metformin does not.

Huey Lewis, call your office.

The ‘Donald Trump Is Evil’ Routine Isn’t Going to Cut It Anymore

19th June 2025

The Foundry.

We’re in very troubled and chaotic times. We’ve got a theater-wide war in the Middle East with the Iranian theocracy on the ropes. We’ve had mass “No Kings” demonstrations in the United States. And we’ve had kind of a hysterical reaction to President Donald Trump’s deportation warrants.

But here’s my point. We’re not hearing alternative proposals from the opposition party. What I mean is, if you do not want the 12 million who entered the United States illegally under President Joe Biden, you might want to issue alternative proposals.

Maybe you could say to Donald Trump: “Well, wait a minute. If people have been here five years and they have no criminal record or they’re gainfully employed, they’re not on any public assistance, can we issue them a green card? Pay a fine?”

I’m not hearing any of that. Nothing. All we’re hearing from California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is that everything was peaceful and then Donald Trump nationalized the California National Guard, and the result is chaos.

But that’s not what we see. We see people spitting on police officers. We see people throwing concrete at them. We see people looting stores. We see stores boarded up. We see buildings defaced. We see people taking over the street. We see people stopping the 101 Freeway and major traffic. We see people waving the Mexican flag, of the country they don’t want to go back to, and spitting and burning the flag of the country they insist on staying in.

“We know that over the last several years, many, many senior officials of the Iranian regime, despite inadmissibility laws, have already made it in here,” Babb, a senior fellow with the MacDonald Laurier Institute, said in an interview this week with The Ben Mulroney Show.

Already, 20 Iranians who served in high-level positions with the Tehran government have been found to be living in Canada, according to Global News.

Turd World Blues: Austrian Children Forced to Learn Arabic to Communicate With Classmates

19th June 2025

Read it.

In a first-grade class of a primary school in Vienna, out of twenty-five pupils, only three can speak German, according to the grandfather of one of the German-speaking children.

In a letter to Austrian daily Heute, Bernhard K. complained that his grandson is trying to learn Arabic so he can understand what his classmates are talking about when they get together during break, or after school: “How else is he supposed to communicate with his schoolmates?”

This statistic highlights the dire situation Austrian, and especially Viennese, schools find themselves in. The influx of migrants and their inability to integrate has completely transformed school life, with many non-German speaking pupils unable to understand what they are being taught.

Muslims have recently become the largest religious group among pupils in Vienna’s primary and secondary schools.

A host of teachers in Vienna have come forward to express their frustration about the difficulties of trying to teach migrant children.

How to Destroy a State: Swap Out the Wealthy for Illegal Immigrants

19th June 2025

Read it.

Whether they’re doing it on purpose or out of just plain ineptitude, Illinois’ political leaders have been slowly destroying this state. More recently, they’ve moved into overdrive.

What we’re talking about is all the wealth the state is giving up by pushing out wealthier taxpayers and inviting less wealthy people in. Not to mention the flood of illegal immigrants that have been “welcomed” to Illinois, many fully dependent on the state.

Not only is Illinois a net loser of people to other states, but the people leaving Illinois make far more than the people coming into Illinois, making things even worse.

The taxpayers that left – about 156,000 of them in 2022 – made on average $124,000 in income, according to data based on the IRS’ annual taxpayer migration report. In contrast, the 111,000 taxpayers that moved into Illinois made on average only $86,000.

That’s a massive $38,000 difference per person lost – a gap that has accelerated significantly in recent years. Compare that to 2010, when the difference was about $5,500. Illinois is increasingly chasing out its wealthy.

Waste of the Day: $140 for Taxi Ride Across Parking Lot

19th June 2025

Read it.

Topline: Massachusetts’ Emergency Assistance Family Shelter Program recently funded what might just be history’s most expensive car trip: $140 for a taxi ride of 223 feet. For those quick with a calculator, that’s a rate of $3,314 per mile.

It’s just one example of taxpayer funds spent on “improper and unlawful emergency procurements” while the agency was using $325 million in state funds last year to help address the state’s migrant crisis, according to a recent report from the state auditor.

Key facts: The emergency housing program was originally created to carry out Massachusetts’ “right to shelter” law from 1983, which guarantees housing for families with children or pregnant mothers.

The program has been overwhelmed with immigrant families in the last few years. There were 3,883 families in shelters in January 2023 but 7,463 families by December 2024.

The influx forced the state to sign emergency, no-bid contracts with companies that were charging up to $31 per meal to feed migrants on the taxpayers’ dime. One company, Spinelli Ravioli, billed the state 9.6% more than their contract allowed for 493 food deliveries, according to the new audit.

Turd World Blues: 200 Christians Massacred in Nigeria—German State Media Blames Climate Change

19th June 2025

Read it.

A brutal massacre in the Nigerian village of Yelwata left 200 Christians dead on the night of June 12th, according to reports from Catholic aid organizations and eyewitnesses. Victims were shot, burned alive, and entire families were killed in their homes. The attackers, who reportedly arrived on motorcycles, shouted “Allahu Akbar” as they set fire to shelters and opened fire on the fleeing villagers.

The Catholic aid organization Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) confirmed the death toll and stated that victims included babies, children, and entire families. “Bodies were scattered everywhere,” said village priest Ukuma Jonathan Angbianbee.

According to the Catholic News Agency (CNA), the first assault on the local church was repelled by police. The attackers then turned to shelters for displaced people, reportedly dousing them with gasoline and setting them ablaze.

“Some bodies were burned beyond recognition,” ACN said. Amnesty International corroborated that families were locked inside their homes and burned alive.

Despite multiple reports confirming the religious targeting of Christians, German state broadcaster ZDF downplayed the massacre. Instead of focusing on the religious targeting of Christians. In its coverage, ZDF framed the violence mainly as a result of factors such as climate change, demographic pressure, and disputes over farmland.

Critics accuse ZDF of deliberately omitting the religious tensions from its report and focusing on climate change, based on ideology.

Interior Dept. Proposes Opening Up 82 Percent of Alaskan Petroleum Reserve

19th June 2025

Read it.

The Department of Interior (DOI) released a draft analysis that proposes reopening up to 82 percent of the 23-million-acre National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPR-A) to oil and gas leasing and development, the agency said in a June 17 statement.

NPR-A was set aside as an emergency oil supply for the U.S. Navy by President Warren Harding in 1923. In 1976, the reserve was transferred to the DOI’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

In 2022, the Biden administration announced the closure of almost half of the NPR-A reserve to oil and gas drilling, overturning a policy from the first Trump administration that sought to boost oil development in the region.

The latest proposal reverses the Biden-era restrictions, “consistent with the Trump administration’s commitment to Energy Dominance and regulatory reform,” the DOI said.

The proposal supports a presidential action, “Unleashing Alaska’s Extraordinary Resource Potential,” signed by President Donald Trump on Jan. 20, 2025.

Border Patrol Finds ‘Sophisticated’ Smuggling Tunnel in San Diego

19th June 2025

Read it.

A large-scale drug smuggling tunnel that connects Tijuana to San Diego was discovered and disabled by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents this week, the agency reported.

CBP agents who were assigned to the San Diego area first discovered the tunnel while it was under construction. The exit point was set to be in a nearby warehouse in Otay Mesa, about 1,000 feet inside the U.S. border. The tunnel was shown to have an electrical system, ventilation, and a railway track for moving large quantities of narcotics.

“As we continue to strengthen the nation’s air, and maritime border security, it’s not surprising that foreign terrorist organizations would resort to underground routes,” said Jeffrey D. Stalnaker, acting chief patrol agent of the San Diego sector. “Disruption of narcotics smuggling tunnels is critical to protecting American lives. I’m grateful for the exceptional work of the tunnel team agents who placed themselves in danger, as well as the cooperation of our Mexican law enforcement partners.”

Newsom Attacks Republicans on Violent Crime—Data Tell Different Story

19th June 2025

Read it.

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s attacks on Republican states for their murder rates ignore a wealth of data on how violent crime plagues left-leaning parts of the country.

Newsom boasted in X posts throughout June that Alabama, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri had higher murder rates than California after Republican lawmakers from those states criticized him over the anti-deportation riots that rocked Los Angeles. However, statistics show California ranks above most states in overall violent crime, one of several statistics that do not fit Newsom’s narrative of conservatives failing to crack down on criminals.

The governor’s argument “lacks context and paints an inaccurate picture of crime in California,” Steve Smith, a crime expert for the Pacific Research Institute, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Most states have lower overall felony crime rates than California,” Smith said. A study by Paper Prisons Initiative in 2020 put California’s felony rate among the top 15 in the country.

Pakistani Muslim Rape Gangs: The Truth Finally?

19th June 2025

Read it.

Let me declare from the outset that despite the febrile atmosphere created by the Casey audit, I was against a national inquiry into the mass rape of white British girls by Pakistani Muslims (or ‘grooming gangs’ if you still prefer the euphemism). As I wrote at the time it was first proposed:

Here’s where I’m going to shock you—we the people don’t want a public inquiry either. We’ve been here before, don’t forget. The Jay Report took seven years and just shy of £187 million to tell us absolutely nothing. It was a cover-up of cover-ups —a whitewash so sanitised even Dulux couldn’t market it. It followed in the footsteps of similar reports from Rochdale (2013), Rotherham (2014), Telford (2022), and Oldham (2022)—all of which preached apologies and avowed that ‘lessons must be learned.’ In 2022, the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) finished with a list of 20 recommendations. Want to bet how many of those have been implemented? That’s right, not a single one.

I still have my reservations. According to Baroness Casey, the report’s author, a national inquiry could take up to five years to complete —which, if past reports are anything to go by, means closer to ten. That’s another decade the victims simply don’t have.

19th June 2025

Read it.

For decades, Iran’s leaders built up a network of allied militias in the Middle East that shared a hatred of Israel and America to gain regional influence and protect the regime. But as the theocracy is now fighting for its own survival, its allies are missing in action.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah, once seen as the most powerful in Iran’s so-called Axis of Resistance, hasn’t fired a single missile since Israel attacked Iran. Its military capabilities and leadership have been decimated by Israeli forces over the past year. Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, is a shadow of itself after 20 months of war with Israel that has seen its leaders killed and Gaza destroyed.

In Iraq, Iranian-backed Shiite militias haven’t targeted U.S. military bases, as they have in the past. And Yemen’s Houthi militia fired several missiles at Israel on Sunday, but have remained silent since.

The bruising wars have left Iran’s allies wary of taking on Israel, which has demonstrated vastly superior military and intelligence capabilities. Some are now focused on their own interests and have a lot to lose from an expanding war, such as Iraq’s militia members who are now making fortunes in the oil sector. Others, like Hezbollah, are trying to rebuild and nursing grievances over the lack of support from Tehran during the group’s war with Israel, according to Arab diplomats who speak to the group regularly.

“Taxi Boats” Intensify Migrant Crisis

19th June 2025

Read it.

The smugglers’ network bringing migrants illegally to the UK has altered its methods, prompting the UK government on Tuesday, June 17th, to describe the situation as “deteriorating.”

Previously, limited police action on Northern French beaches prompted the smugglers to launch their increasingly large ‘small boats’ from inland waterways further and further away from the main shore. Now, criminals are sending ‘taxi’ boats along the coastline to pick up prospective migrants to the UK who wade out to sea before transferring them to main boats ready to make the perilous journey to the Kent coast in England. Alternatively, the ‘taxi boats’ are then used directly in Channel crossings once full.

This poses a problem for French police, who operationally avoid using tear gas and batons in the water, citing the danger of women and children drowning or being crushed inside the boats. This, coupled with increasing violence between Kurdish gangsters and African migrants trying to storm the boats without paying for passage, has prompted law enforcement officials to consider revising their procedures.

A separate landmark figure—40,000 Channel crossings since PM Keir Starmer took office—led Reform UK deputy leader Richard Tice to label the government ‘incompetent muppets.’

Foreign Barbarians Raping Britons? Seems Like Old Times

19th June 2025

Read it.

The rape gang scandal is an apocalypse for Great Britain, in the etymological sense of the word: an unveiling that reveals the truth of their condition. In ages past, clear-eyed people would have seen the sexual subjugation of women by foreigners as the act of conquerors.

In today’s Britain, though, the ruling class—politicians of both the Conservative and Labour parties, police, local administrators, and most of the media—chose to turn a blind eye to foreigners among them carrying out mass rapes of English girls. They did this, as the Baroness Casey report indicates, in the service of multiculturalism and their liberal ideals.

Selling the Public Lands

19th June 2025

The Antiplanner.

The federal government owns about 640 million acres of land — some 28 percent of the land area of the United States — but according to some press reports, members of the U.S. Senate are proposing to sell 250 million of those acres. The press reports are wrong, but even if they weren’t, I can’t help but feel schadenfreude at environment groups that are going ballistic at the proposal.

Federal land aficionados all agree that the lands are enormously valuable. Yet Congress has given away most of the resources produced by those lands, including minerals, forage for domestic livestock, recreation, and water, to various special interest groups for nothing or well below their true value. As result, federal taxpayers lose roughly $10 billion per year managing the federal lands.

The 1980s saw a movement to privatize national forests (about 193 million acres) and Bureau of Land Management (about 247 million acres) lands, but it never got very far. However, I examined the arguments made by the privatizers and realized they were hard to refute. The lands were poorly managed, they said, and almost any environmentalist would agree. The politicization of federal lands meant that people fought over them rather than cooperated with one another to see that they were used for their highest values. Federal land mismanagement had bad influences on adjacent private lands. Privatization could have solved many of these problems.

Culture-Enriching Rape on the Banks of the Adige

Exclusive: Harvard Law Review Axes 85 Percent of Submissions Using Race-Conscious Rubric, Documents Show

19th June 2025

Read it.

The journal claimed the Free Beacon had quoted “selectively” from “five internal memos going back more than three years,” adding that the Harvard Law Review “considers several thousand submissions annually.”

“The Review does not consider race, ethnicity, gender, or any other protected characteristic as a basis for recommending or selecting a piece for publication,” the journal wrote in a fact sheet published on May 27.

But according to new documents obtained by the Free Beacon, the law review eliminates more than 85 percent of submissions using a rubric that asks about “author diversity.” And 40 percent of journal editors have cited protected characteristics when lobbying for or against articles—at one point killing a piece by an Asian-American scholar, Alex Zhang, after an editor complained in a meeting that “we have too many Yale JDs and not enough Black and Latino/Latina authors.”

CAIR Quietly Puts $100K Behind Zohran Mamdani’s Bid for NYC Mayor

19th June 2025

Read it.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, the anti-Israel group whose leader said he was “happy” about Oct. 7, is quietly funding socialist Zohran Mamdani’s bid for New York City mayor.

The Unity & Justice Fund, which CAIR formed last year to expand its political influence, has contributed $100,000 to New Yorkers for Lower Costs, the largest PAC supporting Mamdani, according to campaign records. The money was split between a $25,000 gift on May 30 and a $75,000 donation on June 16.

In Facebook ads and mailers, New Yorkers for Lower Costs touts Mamdani’s pledges to “freeze the rent” in New York City and “make groceries less expensive,” while casting him as a progressive alternative to campaign frontrunner Andrew Cuomo.

But the backing of the Unity & Justice Fund and other anti-Israel organizations suggests New Yorkers for Lower Cost’s true interest in Mamdani lies in his anti-Israel views. Mamdani has refused to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist and earlier this week defended the phrase “Globalize the Intifada,” a rallying cry for violence against Jews worldwide.

Waste of the Day: Unused COVID Quarantine Pods

19th June 2025

Read it.

Topline: Nashville spent $1.2 million to buy 108 quarantine housing pods in 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic, but the shelters were never used. Now the city plans to give 25 of them away to local nonprofits to be used as homeless shelters while covering the cost of renovating them.

Key facts: The combined municipality of Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County bought the pods using federal funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Part of the $1.2 million price tag was for certified nursing assistants and 24-hour security at the pods — which was obviously unnecessary because the pods were never used, Nashville Scene reported.

Nashville started installing 25 of the quarantine pods in 2021 but could not use them until the Tennessee Fire Marshall’s Office gave its approval. The fire marshal told Nashville Scene they required a letter signed by an engineer declaring the pods were safe, but Nashville did not send the letter for almost a year.

Rochdale Grooming Gang Cannot Be Deported After Tearing Up Pakistan Passports

19th June 2025

Daily Telegraph (UK).

Pakistan is refusing to take back the ringleaders of the Rochdale child grooming scandal after they renounced their citizenship.

Ministers are engaged in high-level talks with the Pakistan government to persuade them to drop their block on the deportations of Qari Abdul Rauf and Adil Khan, two of Britain’s worst grooming offenders. Sources indicated that progress was being made.

The pair lost appeals against deportation in 2018 but remain in Britain.

Pakistan officials told The Telegraph it would be “extremely difficult” to take back such dangerous criminals and that there was “no basis to accept them” if they had renounced their citizenship.

I suppose dropping them into the Atlantic from about 1,000 feet is off the table.

UPDATE: These are not ‘Asian’ grooming gangs, they are Kashmiri Muslim

France Cracks Down on Migrant Sham Marriages

18th June 2025

Read it.

After several high-profile cases, French MPs have voted to enshrine in law a ban on mayors celebrating marriages between French nationals and individuals facing deportation. The mobilisation of courageous mayors against illegal immigration has therefore finally borne fruit.

A few months ago, Robert Ménard, the conservative mayor of Béziers in southern France, was taken to court for refusing to marry a local woman to an illegal Algerian immigrant subject to an order to leave French territory (OQTF). Refusing to plead guilty, he called for a change in French law, which currently punishes elected officials who refuse to perform marriages in such cases—regardless of the fiancé’s illegal presence on French soil. He faces up to five years in prison, a fine of €75,000, and disqualification from public office.

A few weeks later, another mayor followed suit. Marlène Mourier, mayor of Bourg-lès-Valence, refused to perform a marriage deemed a ‘marriage of convenience’ between a French woman and an illegal Tunisian immigrant. Mourier and Ménard, joined by two other mayors, published an open letter in Le Figaro calling for a review of French law to prevent such situations from recurring and placing local elected officials in an impossible position—namely, giving their public blessing to a situation that is clearly illegal. President Macron himself, in his televised address last month, described the Ménard case as “grotesque” and came out in favour of changing the law.

‘Shock’ Report Links Migrants to Sex Crimes

18th June 2025

Read it.

Foreign nationals accounted for up to one third of those convicted of sexual assault last year, according to a major report, published on Wednesday, June 18th. Figures obtained by the Centre for Migration Control show that up to 34% of those jailed or otherwise punished for “sexual assault on a female” in 2024 were from overseas.

In view of the latest data it analysed under Research Director Robert Bates, the Centre’s official X account asked

When will politicians admit that mass migration has made Britain unsafe for women and girls? Time for the data to be published fully and transparently.

The report consolidates earlier findings that foreigners were “convicted of nearly a quarter of sex crimes,” published in March this year. It showed that between 2021 and 2023, 15% of sexual offences, including rape, were accounted for by foreign nationals. At the time, the Tory opposition requested that “data revealing [the] full extent of convictions must be acted on,” to no great effect.

The most recent UK census showed that foreign nationals make up just 9.3% per cent of the population.

Berlin Hit by Left-Wing Terror Fires

18th June 2025

Read it.

A total of 36 vans were destroyed by fire at two Amazon and two Telekom locations, in a military-style operation from an extremist group, on the night of Tuesday, June 17th.

Antimilitarist Action claimed responsibility for each devastating incident. On Mohriner Allee Britz, 19 Amazon company vehicles were torched completely, with four others damaged. In Buchberger Straße, 17 vans were set alight at multiple locations.

Security services are investigating suspected arson. This follows a similar arson Berlin attack last week, in Schönwalde-Glien (Havelland, Brandenburg), dozens of Amazon and Deutsche Post vans went up in flames at a parking lot.

These blazes seem like part of a wider pattern, with the Anarchist Bunch MRMD group criminally causing a blaze at a Berlin microchip company on Wednesday, June 11th.

Europe’s Woke Police State Is Targeting Social Conservatives

18th June 2025

Read it.

Last week, a young Dutch woman was arrested outside an abortion clinic in Utrecht in the Netherlands. Thirty-five weeks pregnant herself, she had offered leaflets to two people; one took a brochure, the other declined. The police arrived and, without evidence, arrested the woman on fictitious allegations of “disturbing the peace.” It was the ninth recent arrest made for peacefully engaging in pro-life outreach outside an abortion facility, even though it is not against the law to do so.

It is the third arrest for the young woman—who chose to remain unidentified—and at times she has been held in jail for three to six hours. Two other Dutch women have been similarly arrested three times each. Dirkje de Ruiter, for example, was arrested last year outside a clinic in Utrecht before she had even passed out a single leaflet; the police informed her that, despite doing nothing illegal, her mere presence constituted “disorder.”

De Ruiter had been previously arrested in Rotterdam; a couple turned away from the clinic as the officers were confronting her. “When I arrived at the police station, all my things had to be handed in, and I was put in a cell measuring 2 metres by 1.5 metres,” she told me. “Some of my clothes had to come off, and I was given a blanket against the cold. In the cell I thanked God for the life that had been saved… I was not afraid.” Again: De Ruiter had not broken any laws.

Israel Is Killing Gaza With Obesity

18th June 2025

Read it.

In 2015, a decade after Israel had withdrawn from Gaza leaving it, as terrorist apologists in the media insisted, an “open-air concentration camp”, weight loss centers began to pop up.

Gaza’s Arab Muslim population was overeating badly.

A 2013 study found 1 out of every 5 adolescents in Gaza was overweight or obese which was comparable to rates in the United States. By 2020 in the combined ‘Palestinian’ occupied areas of Gaza, Judea and Samaria, overweight rates shot up from 20% to 34% among boys and from 24% to 32% among girls. If the Arab Muslim populations were living under oppression and terror, how had their adolescent obesity rates gone from 1 in 4 to as much as 1 in 3?

And it’s not just the adolescents.

A global nutrition report found that nearly 30% of men and 42% of women in the combined areas are obese. In Gaza specifically, 64% of mothers were overweight or obese. How could this wave of obesity be reconciled with the simultaneous claim that 60% of households in Gaza are “food insecure’” The mothers of quite a few of those “food insecure households” are obese.

Why Some LA Biz Owners Want to Leave Because of the Riots, but Can’t

As unrest once again disrupts parts of Los Angeles, many small business owners are asking a painful question: should we leave California?

For some, the answer is yes. But for a growing number, the real problem is they can’t.

According to a February 2024 survey of 80,000 small business owners by PublicSquare and RedBalloon, only 13% of California small businesses say they’re happy with their current location — nearly 40% lower than the national average. Nationally, almost half (47.7%) of business owners report being satisfied and having no plans to relocate.
