Suspect in Brussels Soccer Shooting Arrested in Spain

26th January 2025

Read it.

A suspect wanted in connection with an attack in which two Swedish soccer fans were shot dead in Brussels in 2023 was arrested in Malaga, Spanish police said on Saturday.

Two Swedish men were shot and one was injured when an attacker opened fire before a match between Sweden and Belgium in October 2023.

The victims were a man about 70 years old from the Stockholm region and a man about 60 years old who lived abroad, Sweden’s foreign ministry said at the time.

So they weren’t any threat to anybody.

Spanish police said they arrested the suspect, who was not named, at Malaga airport as he was about to board a flight to leave the country.

“The man provided the firearm to the attacker,” Spanish police said in a statement.

The suspect was due to appear in court in Madrid on Saturday to face extradition hearings to Belgium where he faces charges of terrorism and homicide, police sources told Reuters.

Hours after the Brussels attack, police shot dead a suspect in a cafe in the Belgian capital.

The 45-year-old identified himself as a member of the Islamic State group and claimed responsibility in a video posted online.

Imagine how low the crime rates would be if young black males were prohibited from possessing firearms.

‘A Glorious Moment’: Conservative Actor Celebrates Trump Pardon After Jan. 6 Charges

26th January 2025

Read it.

A man who entered the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, and was later arrested said President Donald Trump’s pardon this week was “a glorious moment.”

Siaka Massaquoi, a conservative actor and former first vice chair of the Republican Party of Los Angeles County, spoke to The Daily Signal about his experiences with law enforcement and Trump’s decision to pardon 1,500 individuals on his first day in office.

Like others who entered the Capitol building on that fateful day in 2021, Massaquoi recalls being interviewed, recording video, and leaving at the request of a police officer.

When describing the events of Jan. 6, he called the situation a “honeypot” and “entrapment.”

“I’ve seen videos where Capitol Police removed fencing and the signs that said that it was a restricted area. … We were entrapped by the Biden administration,” he told The Daily Signal.

Massaquoi was not contacted by law enforcement regarding his presence at the Capitol until FBI officers raided his home on June 10, 2021.

“It was a raid to my house, and 15 agents, and guns drawn,” Massaquoi said during an interview Thursday. “When I heard, ‘FBI! FBI!’ the first thought that came to mind was, ‘You have got to be kidding me.’”

Among the MAGA Avant-Garde

26th January 2025

Jaspreet Singh Boparai.

That weekend, the centre of Washington was largely deserted, thanks to an elaborate “security bubble” around the White House and the Capitol. Other areas also seemed empty, possibly because the more enthusiastic Democrat voters decided that the best way to protest Trump’s inauguration was to leave town and avoid the incoming crowds. On Saturday night much of the city seemed to have been partly abandoned to visitors in bright-red “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN” baseball caps, most of whom aimed to get roaring drunk.

Undercover Trump supporters in wealthy liberal areas like Georgetown decided that it was safe to come out of the closet. They have long signalled their unacceptable views by smoking certain brands of cigarette, or using nicotine pouches. But that night, you could see chubby young Republican men in glasses walking around the streets in MAGA caps, either in small groups or (occasionally) with dates. Many had just left victory parties, and were wearing evening dress. They tried their best to ingratiate themselves with their fellow Trump supporters from out of town, who might have voted for the same presidential candidate, but did not seem to be on the same team.

MAGA-cap men who didn’t live in or near Georgetown, or work in politics or media, or ostentatiously read books, adhered to a code of masculinity that had been established by 1980s action films, and professional wrestling of the Hulk Hogan era. By contrast, those who aspired to be their overlords in the Republican Party inclined towards a kind of nostalgic Anglophilia with literary pretensions. The relatively few women who could be seen in Georgetown that night were evidently more interested in the men who weren’t trying to impress them by quoting G. K. Chesterton.

The Crustian condescension just drips–that’s an awfully long nose to look down on the part of a fashionable minority from the Turd World.

Choose Idaho!

25th January 2025

Read it.

Lawmakers returning to Salem for the start of the Legislative session this week are being greeted by roadside messages encouraging them to “Free Eastern Oregon” by moving the border. The billboard campaign is the work of the Greater Idaho Movement, an organization seeking to move Oregon’s border so that the conservative eastern counties of the state can become part of Idaho.

The messages, running on five different screens across the Salem area and I-5 corridor, are varied, but all relate to the same theme of self-determination for the people of eastern Oregon and the feeling that the wishes of the people there are not being heard or respected.

“For four years, voters in eastern Oregon have been passing our measures telling their elected leaders they want them to pursue moving the border. The people have spoken and the Idaho Legislature has already passed a memorial supporting border talks. It’s time for Oregon’s Legislature to stop holding eastern Oregonians captive and let us go,” said Matt McCaw, Executive Director of the movement. “This campaign is a message directly to the legislators who have the power to do that.”

Blue State Blues: ‘Affordable Broadband’ Law In New York Led AT&T to Drop 5G Home Service Entirely

25th January 2025

Read it.

Apparently it wasn’t affordable for the company to offer it, so they didn’t. The next step is a law to force companies to provide the service anyway (as with hospitals), so the companies go out of business or go somewhere else, and everybody suffers.

Price controls don’t work If they force the price lower than the market price, supplies dry up.

Examples: Minimum wage laws, insurance premium caps, ‘price-gouging’ laws, ‘windfall’ taxes, etc.

U.S. Department of Education Ends Biden’s Book Ban Hoax

25th January 2025

Read it.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) today announced that it has dismissed 11 complaints related to so-called “book bans.” The complaints alleged that local school districts’ removal of age-inappropriate, sexually explicit, or obscene materials from their school libraries created a hostile environment for students – a meritless claim premised upon a dubious legal theory. Effective Jan. 24, 2025, OCR has rescinded all department guidance issued under the theory that a school district’s removal of age-inappropriate books from its libraries may violate civil rights laws. OCR is also dismissing six additional pending allegations of book banning and will no longer employ a “book ban coordinator” to investigate local school districts and parents working to protect students from obscene content.

“By dismissing these complaints and eliminating the position and authorities of a so-called ‘book ban coordinator,’ the department is beginning the process of restoring the fundamental rights of parents to direct their children’s education,” said Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Craig Trainor. “The department adheres to the deeply rooted American principle that local control over public education best allows parents and teachers alike to assess the educational needs of their children and communities. Parents and school boards have broad discretion to fulfill that important responsibility. These decisions will no longer be second-guessed by the Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education.”

Blue State Blues: 7 Indicted in Deadly Shootout at a Queens Baby Shower

25th January 2025

Gothamist.

Seven men have been indicted for what authorities say was their involvement in a deadly, gang-related shootout in front of young children at a Richmond Hill baby shower last year. One of the men has yet to be apprehended.

The shooting resulted in the death of 24-year-old Great Neck, Long Island resident Jefari Dobie-Reinhardt and injuries to three others in attendance, according to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz’s office.

More than 40 people, including four children, were in attendance at the baby shower, which took place on May 4 at the Volume Seventeen event venue on Atlantic Avenue, the DA’s office said in a statement Friday. It said two people first opened fire at a crowd of about a dozen people outside, before panicked attendees ran indoors, and then several people fired guns back out through the venue’s windows to the sidewalk.

At least 35 bullet casings, one fired bullet and two live cartridges were recovered at the venue, authorities said. In the statement, Katz described the shooting as “a scene out of the Wild West.”

Imagine how low the crime rates would be if young black males were prohibited from possessing firearms.

From Fires to Mudslides, Catastrophe Has Defined Newsom’s Tenure

25th January 2025

New York Times.

Gov. Gavin Newsom came into office in 2018 confronting one of the deadliest and most destructive fires in the state’s history: the Camp fire. Even before he was sworn in, Mr. Newsom accompanied Donald Trump, then the president, and Jerry Brown, then the governor, in inspecting a blaze that killed 85 people and consumed over 153,000 acres around the Butte County town of Paradise.

On Friday, more than six years later, Mr. Newsom will once again greet Mr. Trump as the president comes to Los Angeles to view the aftermath of the latest devastating wildfires that have swept California.

These new fires — in the Pacific Palisades section of Los Angeles and in Altadena — serve as a reminder that Mr. Newsom’s tenure as governor has been defined by catastrophe and crisis, whether natural or man-made: fires, mudslides, atmospheric rivers, the Covid pandemic, the at-times violent protests against police brutality after the murder of George Floyd.

“It’s mind-boggling the number of natural disasters and otherwise he has to deal with,” said Anthony Rendon, who served as speaker of the California Assembly from 2016 to 2023. “It is something that has bracketed — and maybe even defined — his time in office as governor.”

Amazon has recently made several major internal changes, including removing statements advocating for LGBTQ rights and racial equity from its public listing of corporate policies. This is a bold move for the second-largest employer in the world, which also just announced a documentary with First Lady Melania Trump.

The deletion of previous statements pledging to commit to “equity for Black people” and “LGBTQ+ rights” were removed from a page on the company’s website in December, as were any mentions of the word “transgender,” according to The Washington Post.

From Idlib to Davos: Al-Qaeda Linked Syrian Official on Main Stage at WEF

25th January 2025

Read it.

A US-designated terrorist group still remains the current de facto ruling entity in Damascus and over Syria. But for the West, all that matters is that al-Qaeda linked Jolani is not Assad. A decade-plus long proxy war in pursuit of regime change finally overthrew the secular Baath government early last month, and resulted in the hardline Islamists of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) controlling most of the country.

The West appears to be fully embracing the new rulers which we previously referred to as al-Qaeda in suits. This week we have been treated to the spectacle of a HTS representative speaking on the main stage at Davos. He’s come a long way from Idlib and its black flags… straight to the red carpet jet-setting champaign-sipping insider atmosphere of world elites.

Next Stop MSNBC? Jim Acosta Threatens to Quit After CNN Offers Demotion to Graveyard Shifts

25th January 2025

Read it.

Jim Acosta may soon be out of a job at CNN and begging for a new one at MSNBC, the only network likely to put up with his self-righteous preening these next four years with Donald Trump as president. The notoriously obnoxious host, best known for making a scene at press conferences during the first Trump administration, is reportedly threatening to quit after CNN asked him to accept a humiliating demotion by moving his weekday show, CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta, from 10 a.m. to the “graveyard shift” between midnight at 2 a.m.

CNN executives have even offered to move Acosta to Los Angeles so he can live in the Pacific Time Zone. They’ve pitched the idea by noting that midnight on the East Coast is primetime (9 p.m.) on the West Coast and suggesting that CNN is more than just “an Acela corridor network.” (It’s not.) Acosta wasn’t thrilled about the new time slot, which remains the subject of “active discussions,” according to a network spokesman. The host ended his show on Wednesday with a defiant sign-off: “Still reporting from Washington, I’m Jim Acosta.” The Los Angeles Times reported this week that Acosta may leave the network rather than accept the embarrassing reassignment. One CNN insider told Fox News the graveyard shift is Acosta’s only option if he wants to stay. “He could have a real slot, but the choice is to not give him one,” the insider said.

GOP-Controlled Congress Considers Bill Sanctioning Palestinian Government Over ‘Pay-to-Slay’ Program

25th January 2025

Read it.

Republicans in the House and Senate jointly introduced the bill with broad backing, signaling that the measure is an early priority in both legislative chambers. The legislation would impose sanctions on the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) for providing millions of dollars to imprisoned terrorists and their families. It also would sanction any “foreign persons” known to facilitate these payments or help the Palestinian government administer the program.

This ought to have been done under the Carter administration and continued under every subsequent President.

Partisan Episcopal Bishop Lecturing Trump Shows Why Mainline Protestantism Is Dying

24th January 2025

Read it.

My heart sank listening to Washington Bishop Mariann Budde during a post-inauguration service at Washington National Cathedral, the beautifully sculpted, limestone, crown jewel church for Episcopalians like me in the D.C. area.

The majestic National Cathedral hosted similar inauguration prayer services 10 times before. This time, sadly, Budde gave the perfect illustration of why the Episcopal Church, and other Mainline Protestant denominations (including woke Lutherans and Presbyterians) are rapidly losing members nationwide.

Too often, Episcopal churches are narrow-minded, progressive political rallies instead of expansive, inspiring communities of God’s unconditional, eternal love. I say this as a proud baptized and confirmed member of the Episcopal Church, the church of George Washington and many other Founding Fathers.

Why We Have So Much Illegal Immigration

24th January 2025

From Short Circuit, a newsletter of the Institute for Justice:

Two married Indian nationals have lawfully lived in the United States on employment-based nonimmigrant visas since 2012. After waiting in line almost eight years for a green card, they thought they had reached the front, only to be told two years later that their applications were on hold indefinitely until more immigrant visas became available. The last time this happened, applicants waited eight to nine years for final adjudication. Fed up with the delays, they sue. Third Circuit: Federal law gives USCIS unreviewable discretion on how to manage green card applications and the visa backlog. Whether this particular policy is sound is not for courts to say.

Perhaps if we made the immigration process a bit more user-friendly and less GOVERNMENT-STUPID, we wouldn’t have so much of a problem. Just sayin’.

“Time to Get Tough” as Figures Show One in 12 in London Is an Illegal Migrant

24th January 2025

Read it.

Reports this week point to new figures showing that “up to” 585,000 illegal migrants live in London, which is equivalent to one in 12 of the UK capital’s population. One migration expert told europeanconservative.com that the true number is likely to be “even higher.”

Migration Watch chairman Alp Mehmet said that the think tank “estimates the overall number of illegal migrants in the UK to be around 1.5-2 million, the bulk (circa 60%) of whom will be in the capital.”

In other words, there could be between 900,000 and 1.2 million illegal migrants in London.

Robert Bates, who is research director for the Centre for Migration Control, also told this publication that “we need to find, detain and deport every single person living in the UK illegally” because “they pose a potential security threat and impose an unjust cost on the British taxpayer.”

Hundreds of Schools Hit by Islamist Bomb Scare in Anti-Migration Hungary

24th January 2025

Read it.

Bomb threats targeting 292 schools across Hungary caused widespread evacuations and the cancellation of classes on Thursday, January 23rd. Police conducted thorough searches of the affected institutions, but no explosive devices were found, allowing pupils to return to school on Friday.

Following the bomb scares, Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán said that his country would not only be facing threats but also acts of terrorism if they had admitted migrants to Hungary.

Speaking to Kossuth Rádió on Friday, Viktor Orbán said it was possible that the threats were orchestrated from an international hub, one beyond the reach of Hungarian authorities. He pointed to similar bomb threats against Slovakian and Czech schools last year. On Wednesday, numerous schools in Bulgaria also received bomb threats.

He noted that acts of terrorism occur regularly in Western Europe, therefore it is impossible to dismiss such events with a mere shrug of the shoulder. He stressed that “if we had allowed migrants in, we would not be facing threats, but acts of terrorism.”

Imagine how peaceful the world would be if the Religion of Peace didn’t exist.

Newark Mayor: ICE Raided Business Without a Warrant, Detained U.S. Citizens

24th January 2025

Read it.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents carried out a raid on a Newark business Thursday, detaining non-citizens and citizens alike, according to Mayor Ras J. Baraka.

“A Newark native, Baraka is the son of poet and activist Amiri Baraka (born Everett Leroy Jones) and his wife Amina Baraka.” — Wikipedia. Another Democrat grifter who thinks that adopting an Arab (or Arab-sounding) name is ‘more authentically black’, even though the Arabs (and other Muslims) enslaved more black Africans than white Europeans.

The incident, which could not immediately be confirmed with ICE or its parent agency, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, comes three days after President Donald Trump reiterated on Inauguration Day his campaign pledge to launch a mass deportation of undocumented immigrants.

Baraka denounced the raid as an “egregious act” conducted without a warrant and in violation of the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees “the right of the people be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures.”

This clown needs to consult a lawyer before spewing his lies. ICE doesn’t need a warrant to detain suspected illegal immigrants, any more than police need a warrant to detain suspected robberts.

“One of the detainees is a U.S. military veteran who suffered the indignity of having the legitimacy of his military documentation questioned,” Baraka, a Democrat seeking his party’s nomination for governor this year, said in a statement late Thursday afternoon. “Newark will not stand by idly while people are being unlawfully terrorized.”

Documentation needs to be checked. Fakes are all around us. ‘Nobody is above the law.’

Islamophobia is the Cover-Up for the Crime

24th January 2025

The Labour Party and Liberal Democrats both adopted the APPG’s definition of ‘Islamophobia’ and in the process defined not only historical facts such as “Muslims spreading Islam by the sword or subjugating minority groups under their rule” as Islamophobic but committed  themselves to automatically believing “Muslim majority states” making accusations of “genocide perpetrated against Muslims” in Israel and anywhere else, and to also suppressing any discussion of Muslim sex grooming gangs as Islamophobic and a danger to Muslims.

Following the brutal attack that cost two people their lives yesterday, including a 2-year-old child, in the Bavarian city of Aschaffenburg, Alternative for Germany (AfD) co-leader Alice Weidel is calling for mass deportations.

“In Bavaria, which is governed by the CSU, an Afghan in Aschaffenburg kills a toddler (2) and a good Samaritan (41) who rushed to help the child. The Afghan had previously followed the child’s daycare group. My thoughts are with the relatives and the injured. Remigration now!” wrote Weidel on X.

Chinese Navy Commissions First Type 054B Frigate

24th January 2025

Read it.

China’s first Type 054B frigate, the Luohe, was commissioned into the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) on Wednesday. The PLAN’s newest warship is purportedly bristling with advanced features. Its commissioning follows a Pentagon warning late last year about Beijing’s growing ability to quickly churn out high-end vessels as part of a rapidly expanding fleet with increasing reach across the globe. The ship class, referred to by the U.S. and NATO as the Jiangkai III class, could eventually become the backbone of China’s combat fleet in the future, although Luohe and a second Type 054B are believed to be the only two built thus far.

The Luohe was commissioned at the Qingdao Comprehensive Support Base, situated just across the Yellow Sea from South Korea. The ship was launched in 2023 and underwent sea trials last year. While Beijing released few technical details on the vessel, online posts citing the government state that the ship displaces about 5,000 tons. It is also believed to be longer and more capable of future system upgrades than its predecessor, the Type 054A.

The U.K. May Relax Tax Policies That Have Led Wealthy People to Leave the Country

23rd January 2025

Read it.

Last year, the British government decided to end tax breaks for wealthy foreigners, a decision that may have contributed to 10,800 millionaires fleeing the U.K. in 2024, Bloomberg noted. Now, though, Reeves is considering an amendment that would lessen the impact of those plans, multiple people familiar with the matter told the outlet, requesting anonymity as the details have not yet been publicized. That amendment would allow some people to more easily access the temporary repatriation facility (TPF), which lets non-doms bring in previously earned foreign income and gains at a reduced tax rate.

“The temporary repatriation facility is designed to encourage non-doms to bring their funds to the U.K., encouraging them to spend and invest this money here,” the Treasury said in a statement cited by Bloomberg. The current program is available for three tax years from 2025, with a tax rate of 12 percent for the first two years and 15 percent for the third year. The planned amendment wouldn’t change the tax rates or the length of the TRF, people familiar with the situation told the publication.

While the proposed changes to the tax regime may be celebrated by some high-net-worth individuals in the U.K., they may not largely affect the outflow of millionaires.

Once the government gets the idea that your money is its money, it’s hard to go back.

Blue State Blues: ‘Double Dipping’ NY Lawmakers ‘Retire’ to Collect a Pension and Salary At The Same Time

23rd January 2025

Gothamist.

New York state Assemblymember Al Taylor of Harlem retired at the end of last year — which is probably news to his constituents, whom he still represents.

Taylor, a Democrat, is the latest state lawmaker to take advantage of a constitutional quirk that lets him collect his public salary and pension at the same time. All he had to do was briefly “retire” before beginning his new term, which he did by filing his papers on Dec. 31, and return to work the next day.

Taylor will now receive his $142,000 base salary as well as public retirement benefits that could exceed $75,000 annually, depending on which payment option he selected and whether he selected a beneficiary. He is one of at least 15 New York state lawmakers currently collecting a public pension and public salary, according to the state comptroller’s office. Taylor did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

23rd January 2025

The American Mind.

hijacking the review process for K-12 history and civics curricula. Educators and radicals, in league with one another, are conspiring to turn students against America’s traditional cultural and political institutions.

Now that Critical Race Theory (CRT) is being exposed as ahistorical indoctrination, a new permutation of neo-Marxist theory is gaining currency in our schools. It’s called postcolonialism. Its stated mission is to fight “settler colonialism,” a term used to describe any society supposedly built upon the oppression and genocide of indigenous people. Examples of “settler societies” include Israel, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Canada, and the United States. The recent student activism against Israel, which denied the country’s right to exist and celebrated terrorist attacks against it, demonstrated the true nature of postcolonialism and its power to inspire hatred on campus.

Whereas CRT is largely an American phenomenon, postcolonial ideology developed within a broader global context, emerging out of the various movements to end empire around the world—much as CRT emerged as a mutation of the movement to end racial segregation in America. What the civil rights movement is to CRT, the decolonization movement is to postcolonialism. The intellectual forefather of postcolonial ideology is the Marxist intellectual Frantz Fanon, whose writings glorified Algeria’s violent resistance to French control in the middle of the 20th century.

I’m sure the analysts at the FBI will have fun trying to discern some kind of coherent ideology in his manifesto, but it’s really just a collage of nihilistic craziness — “soyjak” memes, tributes to various mass murderers, “groyper” stuff, etc., and honestly what I want to say to these kids is simple: Y’ALL NEED JESUS!

Seriously. These kids see no meaning or purpose in their lives, which is an inevitable consequence of the de-Christianization of our culture. Our education system is openly hostile to Christianity, based upon the liberal secular humanist belief that Christianity is harmful, but if our Soros-funded cultural overlords were ever to make the mistake of inviting me to speak at one of their confabs at Davos or Aspen, I’d wake them up from their secular pipe dream: You think the “Religious Right” is dangerous? Three weeks of intense wildfires have ignited speculation on X, with many questioning whether arsonists may be to blame for the ignition source of the wildfires. There have been several instances where arsonists were arrested. Meanwhile, mainstream far-left media outlets have struggled to convince the public that evil ‘global warming’ is the primary cause.

When government workers spend their time focused on who gets the spoils rather than on doing their jobs, dystopia arrives on big iron-shot hooves.

Is Everything Really Political?

23rd January 2025

Daniel Greenfield.

Leftism is a giant conspiracy theory. Its paranoid schizophrenic view of the world is not unique. The perception that the world is invisibly controlled by forces and agendas that most people are not aware of pervades many cults, conspiracy theorists and radical movements. But what is unique about the Left is its image as an intellectual movement and a cultural force that has enabled its paranoid worldview and its raving hostility to the world as it exists to dominate the discourse at the expense of the ideas, beliefs and cultures that predated it.

The central leftist conspiracy theory is wrapped in academic theories taught in every university, and its premises are as deeply embedded in our culture as they were in the USSR and much of the western world, willingly or unwillingly, knowingly or unknowingly, has come to see at least some of reality through the lens of leftist conspiracy theories and to echo its messages.

Wokeness is the act of ‘awakening’ people to that alternate reality by imposing that lens.

Wokery is voluntarily taking the blue pill.

We’ve Known It for Years: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Programs Don’t Work

23rd January 2025

Quillette.

In January, the world’s second-largest restaurant chain, McDonald’s, and Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, both joined the long list of multinational corporations that have announced they are discontinuing their formal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. It’s a trend that also includes such household names as Amazon, Walmart, Molson Coors, Ford Motor Co., John Deere, Lowe’s, Harley-Davidson, Toyota Motor Corp, and, as of this week, the U.S. federal government: Donald Trump’s administration has ordered all federal workers staffed in DEI roles to be placed on paid leave.

In explaining its move, McDonald’s cited the “shifting legal landscape”—specifically, a June 2023 US Supreme Court decision that struck down race-based affirmative-action programs in college admissions as unconstitutional. In its memo to employees, Meta likewise cited Supreme Court jurisprudence, as well as the fact that “the term ‘DEI’ has also become charged, in part because it is understood by some as a practice that suggests preferential treatment of some groups over others.”

While Trump’s name doesn’t appear in these memos, the president’s previous comments likely played a role in corporate decision-making. This week’s anti-DEI executive order was no surprise, as Trump had pledged to “eliminate all diversity, equity and inclusion programs across the entire federal government”; and his most vocal conservative supporters typically attack DEI as being inspired by “woke” or even Marxist principles—an affront to the merit-based ethos.

As the Los Angeles Fires Rage, the California National Guard’s Top Wildfire Response Expert Says the Newsom Administration Fired Him Because He’s Jewish

23rd January 2025

Read it.

Long-running accusations of anti-Semitism that for years dogged California’s troubled National Guard resurfaced at a crucial time for the force that is currently battling historic Los Angeles wildfires. A fired commander with extensive firefighting experience has filed a lawsuit alleging he’s now on the sidelines because he’s Jewish.

Brigadier General Jeffrey Magram is suing the state of California, Governor Gavin Newsom (D.), and Adjutant General Matthew Beevers, a Newsom appointee who was previously accused of referring to his Jewish subordinates as “kike lawyers.” Magram claims his dismissal was driven by anti-Semitic animus.

The California National Guard is the largest such force in the country, and 2,500 guard members (including some reinforcements from Nevada and Wyoming) are now battling the wildfires from the air and the ground, as well as helping with public safety. But the “scandal plagued” guard, as the Los Angeles Times calls it, has been bogged down by unseemly allegations of impropriety, including the coverup of an incident in which someone urinated in a guardswoman’s boot, indecent exposure at a restaurant, retaliation against whistleblowers, and the use of spy planes and fighter jets to monitor and intimidate protesters.

Magram’s ouster just over two years ago came after an inquiry found he used military personnel for personal tasks, among other infractions that the inquiry claimed compromised his leadership. He was one of five generals who were fired or retired under pressure amid ballooning scandals at the guard in the last few years. But in his lawsuit, Magram—who was not implicated in the more lurid scandals that dogged the guard—argues he was targeted in a smear campaign that overlooked a sterling record because he is Jewish.

No Free Pass: The Unintended Consequences opf Presidential Pardons

23rd January 2025

Read it.

A presidential pardon is not a get-out-jail-free card. Those who receive presidential pardons face two significant hurdles.

First, a presidential pardon only wipes the slate clean for federal crimes—it offers no shield against state or local charges. This gap in protection is precisely how Donald Trump found himself entangled in criminal cases across four jurisdictions: New York, Georgia, Florida, and the District of Columbia. Each of these jurisdictions operates independently beyond the reach of presidential clemency, underscoring the limits of federal immunity.

Secondly, presidential pardons leave the door open to civil penalties. Federal or state governments, as well as private parties, can pursue restitution or damages through civil courts, even in the absence of criminal penalties. Individuals who receive pardons may still face a range of lawsuits and financial claims, including those initiated by the federal government.

Ironically, receiving a pardon can heighten the risk of civil lawsuits and state or local prosecution. Pardons attract heightened scrutiny from the public and potential plaintiffs, including well-funded advocacy groups eager to pursue justice or restitution. Preemptive pardons, such as those issued by President Joe Biden, are especially prone to being viewed as implicit admissions of guilt, potentially intensifying the drive for civil litigation or state and local criminal prosecution.

“People often say, ‘You don’t sound like a Democrat. You seem to have left the party,’” Adams told Carlson.

“No, the party left me, and it left working-class people.”

Throughout the interview, Adams tied his indictment on bribery and corruption charges to his decision to speak out against the illegal immigrant surge in New York City.

He claimed those who push back on “the norm” within the Democratic party get “demonized.”

India Willing to Take Back 18K Illegal Migrants From US

23rd January 2025

Read it.

In exchange for the Trump administration safeguarding access to key visa programs for Indians, India has offered to take back 18,000 of its citizens illegally living in the United States, Bloomberg reported.

India is hoping President Donald Trump maintains the H-1B visa program, which some of his supporters oppose. Of the 386,000 H-1B visas granted in 2023, 72% came from India, according to government data.

The country also wants Trump to maintain its student visa program and prevent Trump from ramping up tariffs against it, Bloomberg reported.

India is not using illegal migration to the U.S. to dump its underclass, as Mexico has done for the past sixty years. These are mostly high-tech workers and bright university students who just figure that they can make more money in the U.S.–India wants them back to reverse the ‘brain drain’.

Democrats Can’t Bully Their Way To A Free Pass

23rd January 2025

Read it.

I believe in restraint, tradition, decorum, and the precepts of our system of criminal justice: deterrence, punishment, and retribution. Turning the other cheek accomplishes none of these. Joe Biden’s last-minute pardons for his family, and his unprecedented preemptive pardons for members and staff of the January 6 Committee, Anthony Fauci, and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Mike Milley, underscore the necessity for Congress and Donald Trump’s Justice Department to perform their duties to investigate crime.

The Supreme Court made clear in Burdick v. United States (1915) that the “confession of guilt implied in the acceptance of a pardon” may be avoided only by rejecting it. In December, the Biden Justice Department advised a federal judge that January 6 defendants hoping for a pardon from soon-to-be President Trump “would first have to accept the pardon, which necessitates a confession of guilt.”

The Biden administration and its proxies engaged in the unrestricted, weaponized use of our justice system to take down the leading Republican candidate for president and his family, supporters and advisors, as well as Christians, conservatives, and pro-life activists. They censored, investigated, humiliated, intimidated, arrested, indicted, and jailed their political opponents using long-abandoned, novel, and manifestly flawed legal theories.

Democrats express horror that the Trump Justice Department might investigate whether laws were broken by officials who engaged in these tactics. They angrily assert that if the Trump administration exacts “retribution” it would endanger civil liberties and tear asunder the fabric of our justice system.

This reminds me of bullies who strike a classmate and then recoil, wag a finger at the victim, and warn him that he better not hit back.
