Labour’s early release scheme, launched to reduce overcrowding in British prisons, has now in error freed more than 30 prisoners who were never eligible for inclusion in the programme. Further denting the reputation of an already catastrophic government initiative, the latest revelation came on Thursday, September 26th.
Tucked away among the 1,750 prisoners who became eligible for release after serving just 40% of their sentences (down from the original 50% minimum) were approximately three dozen offenders who are not eligible for the new programme at all.
The problem with large nation-states is that they engender even larger bureaucracies, and the stupidity of a bureaucracy expands to meet the available budget, and the politicians are so preoccupied with buying votes that they have no money left for essential government services, like keeping criminals out of circulation.

And so, I had my cup of coffee and the cat was fed and the morning looked grimly cloudy but at least not cold and it was a Monday and Mondays are always full of optimism which gradually dissipates into abject misery by Friday, as we know, but we only truly know by Wednesday afternoon when we start sobbing over the number of emails to respond to and there isn’t enough coffee in the day to keep us awake.
So I did the crossword and the Wordle thing and turned on the news sites. I tried very hard to start in the optimistic narrative where the economy is lovely and the wars are so far away as to almost be incidental and the price of gas went down and pineapples are on sale and politicians truly care about the little people and a new high-end restaurant just opened. And that was delightful.
And utterly ridiculous for anyone who actually lives in this world.
But I suppose it makes the newscasters happy and politicians even happier and who are we to take that away from these silly people anyway? They are unfortunately lost in a narrative and can’t find Waldo for the life of them.
They are not happy people and we must be compassionate. Somewhat.
In any event, in my desperate effort to find truth in a world of propaganda from both sides, I reluctantly went off and researched the other side again. And apparently the economy is imploding, wars are coming to our home territory, the price of gas will go up astronomically, pineapples are outrageously expensive again and politicians don’t even remember who the people are who elected them let alone understand them and slews of restaurants have had to close up shop this month because nobody can afford them anymore.
Yeah. That’s unfortunately more likely. We know this because we actually live in the world of reality. Sometimes at least.
So I decided to do the only sane thing and concluded it was time to Death Clean.

And how does a woman, with her husband slumped on top of her, manage to turn around, in a pencil skirt, and climb onto the back of a car that’s moving so fast, a running man, in good shape, almost can’t reach it? She has white gloves on, too. Wouldn’t she be slipping and sliding all over that shiny limo? And if Hill shoves her back down into her seat to protect her, why would she not fall backward instead of going back into a seated position on the way to the hospital? She didn’t turn around and crawl back, as I recall. And why do you see a single white rose (or is it an ominous lily)? Where are the red roses Jackie had received, which should be all over the place with all the jostling going on? And, finally, where is Mrs. Connally? In 2018, Henry Kissinger observed that Donald Trump was one of those historical characters who “appears from time to time to mark the end of an era and to force it to give up its old pretences”. The same could be said about last year’s October 7 attacks, the full impact of which we are only now beginning to comprehend.
Before that act of appalling barbarism, the world was strangely optimistic about the future of the Middle East — despite the catastrophic scale of human suffering, millenarian fanaticism and economic collapse that was already evident across the region. The root of the hopefulness could be found in the Abraham Accords, that potentially transformative set of Trump initiatives, the aim of which was — somewhat euphemistically — to “normalise” relations between Israel and some of its Arab enemies. Last September, the great glittering prize of Middle East peace seemed to be in touching distance: Saudi rapprochement with Israel.

On Friday 26 September 2014, a group of Mexican students boarded buses in the town of Iguala. Members of the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers’ College, in the southern state of Guerrero, they were hoping to reach Mexico City for an event marking the anniversary of the infamous Tlatelolco massacre. On that day in 1968, hundreds of students were gunned down by the security forces, while others were tortured and falsely imprisoned. Some were simply disappeared, and never seen again. The outrage itself would soon be followed by a monumental cover-up, and ultimately become the defining event of recent Mexican history.
Little did the Ayotzinapa students know that history was about to repeat itself. As night fell, their buses were stopped by police barricades. There, on a lonely stretch of highway, they were set upon by officers and members of the local drug cartel. Many of the students were shot, a number were hospitalised, and one was found dead by the roadside, a part of his face ripped away. It was only the following morning, however, that the full scale of the horror became clear: 43 students couldn’t be accounted for. A decade on from their disappearance, they’re presumed dead. Their bodies have never been recovered.
If the Tlatelolco massacre became the defining moment of Mexico’s authoritarian past, “the 43” have come to symbolise the country’s stumbling democratic transition. There are, after all, over 110,000 desaparecidos (“disappeared ones”) right across Mexico, anonymous men and women who vanished one day and never came home. You’re reminded of them everywhere you go, their faces peering out at you from countless monochrome posters. Each, of course, represents a private tragedy. But just like Tlatelolco, the case of the Ayotzinapa students has gained vigour through the years, and ten years on represents abuse of state power at its most absolute.
A poignant reminder that Mexico is a failed state.

The mysterious incident that TWZ previously reported that occurred at China’s Wuchang Shipyard in the spring of this year resulted in the sinking of the country’s latest nuclear-powered attack submarine, according to U.S. officials. The boat in question, originally identified as a conventionally powered submarine, was the first of the new Type 041 Zhou class SSNs.
Citing unnamed U.S. officials, a report in The Wall Street Journal today describes an attempt by the Chinese authorities to cover up the accident, involving a submarine “likely” carrying nuclear fuel when it sank. The boat had been undergoing its final fitting out before going to sea.
“American officials haven’t detected any indication that Chinese officials have sampled the water or nearby environment for radiation,” the article continues. “It is possible Chinese personnel were killed or injured when the sub sank, but U.S. officials say they don’t know if there were casualties.”
“Nice submarine you got there. Be a real shame if anything happened to it.”

If 9/11 occurred in our current climate, how many young Americans would be celebrating it as an annual holiday? Twenty three years ago, you’d seem crazy to imagine college students would cosplay as the terrorists who crashed commuter jets into the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
Today, it appears nobody would bat an eye.
Nearly a year has passed since Israel and the world’s Jewish diaspora experienced their own 9/11. October 7, 2023 was the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. Islamic fundamentalists slaughtered at least 1,200 people in “cold blood,” as the Daily Wire accurately describes, burning their victims alive and sexually assaulting and butchering women.

The migrant takeover of Springfield, Ohio, has become a major cultural moment, particularly thanks to former president Donald Trump declaring on the debate stage that they [the migrants] are “eating the dogs.” A musical remix of his declarations went viral — and I’ve heard completely non-political people jokingly mimic Trump’s words in public. Setting aside the debate over whether or not there is evidence Haitians are stealing and eating people’s pets, or ducks and geese from the local park, the residents of Springfield have legitimate concerns over mass migration. Serious problems arise when approximately 20,000 people from a vastly different culture move to one place and don’t make a real effort to assimilate. Then you have the added resentment of these newcomers taking local jobs at cut-rate pay and getting the rest of their lives subsidized by taxpayer dollars.

Ross Perot’s theme song for his 1992 independent presidential run was the classic country weeper “Crazy,” written by Willie Nelson and made famous by Patsy Cline. It certainly seemed appropriate for a quixotic bid that ultimately failed to win the White House, as has every independent or third-party effort since Abraham Lincoln.
But victory at the polls is only one way to measure the success of independent and third-party presidential efforts. For in many ways, Perot’s two futile candidacies – he ran again in 1996 –provided a preview of today’s political scene.
Political author Michael Barone has said that “no third-party candidate could succeed in America unless he had a billion dollars and a household name.” Ross Perot, of course had both. As the founder of Electronic Data Systems, he became a tech billionaire at a time when most Texas fortunes were still based on oil and cattle. By the 1980s, when he began dabbling in politics, Perot was already one of the richest men in Texas. And the tale of his 1979 rescue of two EDS employees held hostage in Iran made him the subject of both a best-selling novel and a made-for-TV movie starring Charlton Heston.
I’m not ashamed to say that I voted for Ross Perot and never regretted it.

The chain of events that led to the death of Philippine, a 19-year-old Catholic student, highlights a dramatic chain of responsibility that has already been observed in similar cases.

One is reminded of the old adage that England’s wars were won on the playing fields of Eton, by which it was meant that the education system of British leadership caste was such as to instill in young men the attitudes necessary to victory. The old “stiff upper lip” disposition of British officers, the quality of calm amid crisis, the dogged persistence in the face of daunting odds and discouraging setbacks — “the playing fields of Eton” taught those qualities, somehow. If there is any cause to be pessimistic about America’s future, certainly the state of our education system is at the top of the list, because there is no effort to create leadership of that character. Indeed, our education system is run by people who lack patriotism and clearly do not wish to make our nation stronger. How could “gender theory” lectures contribute to such a project?

A feature of this age is that we are regularly presented with unusual events and then presented with an official explanation that is stranger than the event itself or given no explanation at all for what happened. In fact, you could describe the Trump era as a series of unexplained phenomena that either come with no official explanation or one so ridiculous no one accepts it. Trump is like a modern-day wizard in that his mere existence creates unexplainable happenings.

Somehow the story of Iran’s sending opposition research on J.D. Vance to the Biden/Harris presidential campaign blew past me. Is it possible that it didn’t get much play in the American press? Notwithstanding the intense concern about foreign “interference” in our elections that reporters and editors have manifested for the last eight years?
To catch up on the story, I went overseas to the London Times. That paper starts from square one, assuming that its readers haven’t been following the story breathlessly like, for example, readers of The Washington Post.

Right before Election Day, Biden finally released the names of his ‘bundlers’: the big money fundraisers who backed his 2020 campaign. One of them was ‘Muhammad’ Tahir Javed: a Biden surrogate, Democratic National Committee deputy finance chair, and future Pakistani cabinet member.
Javed bragged that he had “raised over $2M for the Biden Harris transition team” and “recruited 30+ donors to the transition team and general campaign, four of whom were recognized along with myself… to have raised over $100,000 personally.” These donors would have likely come through Javed’s roles in various Islamic and Pakistani groups operating inside America..
The Congressional Pakistan Caucus Foundation, founded by Javed, was announced at an event with Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Rep. Eric Swalwell (who was later caught having relations with a Chinese Communist spy) and Rep. Henry Cuellar (currently indicted for bribery) with the expectation that another 37 members of Congress would also join.a Pakistani ‘caucus’. Javed had donated around $15,000 to Rep. Jackson Lee, and around $9,000 to Swalwell and Cuellar.

France’s new Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, of Les Républicains, is considering ending the controversial AME (Aide Médicale d’Etat), which provides free medical assistance to migrants—including illegal ones. The Left sees this stance as a clear sign of the new team’s benevolence towards the ‘far Right,’ and some ministers have openly expressed their discontent.
Invited to appear on the TF1 television news on Monday, September 23rd, Retailleau asserted that he wanted to “take all possible means to reduce immigration in France.” Among these is the reform, or even abolition, of State Medical Aid (AME). This scheme, which entitles foreigners who have been present on French soil for at least three months to free medical care, is costing the state several billion every year.
When European government-provided health care systems were set up in the wake of WWII, little thought was given to the prospect of immigrants from the Middle East and Africa flooding in and swamping the system. Looks as if people are starting to wake up to the fact that Unintended Consequences can be a bitch.

The illegal immigration crisis at the southern border has not only created a culture of lawlessness at the southern border, it has also adversely affected the labor and housing markets.
That’s according to the testimony of Center for Immigration Studies director of research Steven Camarota at a hearing of the House Oversight subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, “The Border Crisis: The Cost of Chaos.”
Camarota said at the hearing that the amount of illegal immigration in recent years has been “unprecedented” in scale. He said that a recent report by the House Judiciary Committee found that at least “5.6 million illegal immigrants have been released into the country since January of 2021.”

The common refrain among supporters of the Democratic Party’s open borders policy is that immigration helps the economy. A very recent example of this was published in MSNBC Daily last month, where the author, David Bier of the Cato Institute, claims that “The Congressional Budget Office finds that the surge will boost the economy by $7 trillion and reduce the federal debt by nearly $1 trillion by 2034.” That’s actually an unimpressive statistic since the cumulative GDP of the United States over the next decade will easily exceed $300 trillion, but Bier is probably not wrong in his assertion that immigration increases GDP.
What Bier and most libertarians fail to emphasize in their analysis is not merely the quantity of economic growth caused by immigration but the quality of that growth. We should not be surprised. Adhering to orthodox dogma at the expense of real-world consequences is just another trait libertarians share with socialists, who are their equally doctrinaire, equally out of touch supposed ideological antagonists.

Yesterday the state of Missouri executed convicted murderer Marcellus Williams after a quarter century of legal wrangling. The case gained some attention because the defense managed to muddy the waters on the DNA evidence and therefore drag out the process long enough to get some of the principles to change their opinions on whether Williams did the crime. Of course, the real reason it gained attention was that the killer was black, and his victim was white.
The subtext to crime in current year America is that on the one hand, blacks commit crime due to living in a white supremacist society. On the other hand, when blacks commit crimes against whites, the whites must deserve it for perpetuating the white supremacist society that causes black crime. This is what makes up the social vengeance subculture at the heart of the social justice movement. In the end, it is all about getting revenge on white people.
The result of this or maybe the cause, it is not easy to know at this point, is that whites often appear to worship black people or at least want the world to think they hold blacks up as gods among men. The three dumbest members of the Supreme Court made sure the media knew they were opposed to the execution. As part of what we call the left in America, they need to let the rest of the hive know where they stand on every issue that involves race, especially when a black is involved.
Virtue Signaling is our national religion.

Modern dating is a minefield—but instead of just opting out, a cohort of single women are trying to roll with the punches and adopting the “Burned Haystack” method.
Aimed at cutting through dating app noise and fatigue, the Burned Haystack Dating Method (BHDM), developed by Jennie Young, is especially resonating with women over 40.
Riffing off the popular “needle in a haystack” saying, BHDM encourages women to filter out potential matches through a rigorous vetting process. In other words, in order to find the needle, you have to burn down the haystack.
Exactly wrong. These poor women are going to find that there are no needles in their haystack. And it’s entirely their own fault.
The right-hand caption is wrong: It ought to read “Invisible Men”. The problem is not ‘standards not strict enough’; the problem is ‘standards are too strict’. Social media has globalized the dating market and women are competing for the same upper cohort of men and ignoring all the rest.
Michael Sartain likes to say that there are actually three sexes: The top 20% of men that all women want; all women; and the bottom 80% of men who are effectively invisible. He also likes to cite a study in which a large number of men and women are asked whether they would marry somebody who was 80% of what they were looking for–the men invariably responded, “80%? Hell, yes; that’s a win!” and the women invariably responded, “No, that would be ‘settling’.”

They’d been friends for years and once worked side-by-side in the county courthouse. They were two high-profile elected officials in a town where it seems like everybody knows each other, our media partners at the Cincinnati Enquirer report.
So why, as he’s accused in court, did Letcher County Sheriff Shawn “Mickey” Stines walk into a private room inside the courthouse, pull out a gun and kill District Judge Kevin Mullins?
It’s an unprecedented crime in a town that can go years without a homicide. And the Thursday afternoon shooting left a gaping hole in the judicial system — Mullins was the county’s only judge, and its sheriff is behind bars in Leslie County, facing a first-degree murder charge after he surrendered on the scene.

1,092 crimes were recorded at Frankfurt Central Station in just the first six months of 2024. That’s equivalent to about six crimes per day.
The figures, quoted by German news media company Apollo, were released by the federal government in response to a request from the AfD parliamentary group. They show that a very high proportion of the criminal suspects are foreign nationals.
A report produced this month by the Bundestag reveals that, for example, non-Germans were involved in 123 cases of violent crime at the station in the first half of this year. By comparison, German citizens were involved in 84 cases. In five cases, the nationality of the suspect was “unclear.” It was “unknown” in 57 others.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ruled that the lack of legal recognition for same-sex partnerships in Poland violates the human rights of such couples.
The case against Poland was brought by four Polish women—one of the couples got married in the United Kingdom, the other in Denmark. Their request to have their foreign marriages registered in Poland was refused on the basis that that would violate the constitution, which defines marriage as “a union of a man and a woman.”
The women complained that they were being prevented from benefiting from spouses’ rights under Polish law to make tax-free donations to one another, to file joint tax returns, to receive benefits for caring for one another, and to extend health insurance to one another.

Women’s Fencing is the latest sport to be corrupted by gender-deluded men snatching the win. A 39-year-old male named “Annika Rose” Suchoski has only been fencing for nine months, but still placed second in Ontario’s Fortune Fencing Regional Championships. He came out of left field, beating biological women who had been competing for years, according to the Daily Mail. This was Suchoski’s first tournament since taking up the sport. He reportedly began “transitioning” to a female in 2018, and underwent sex change surgery only two years ago. Fans online expressed outrage, describing how Suchoski’s height and features as a (still) biological male give him the advantages of longer reach and more upper body strength.
I’m curious how long women are going to put up with this.

Silicon Valley has the reputation of being the birthplace of our hyper-connected Internet age, the hub of companies such as Apple, Google and Facebook. However, a pioneering company here in central Ohio is responsible for developing and popularizing many of the technologies we take for granted today.
A listener submitted a question to WOSU’s Curious Cbus series wanting to know more about the legacy of CompuServe and what it meant to go online before the Internet.
That legacy was recently commemorated by the Ohio History Connection when they installed a historical marker in Upper Arlington — near the corner of Arlington Center and Henderson roads — where the company located its computer center and corporate building in 1973.
On the Internet, nobody knows you’re a dog–not that there’s anything wrong with that….

T cells are our first line of defense against cancer, but the battle tends to exhaust them. Now, scientists have found a way to give them extra “batteries” to keep them fighting longer, with promising early results in mice.
In a fair fight, the immune system would wipe out cancer every time – but this crafty disease doesn’t play fair. Along with its many tricks to avoid detection, tumors build microenvironments around themselves that are toxic to immune cells, draining them of energy. Sustained immune responses against a pathogen like cancer can lead to T cell exhaustion.
Finding ways to supercharge the immune system to continue the fight is the main goal of immunotherapy. Now, a team from Brigham and Women’s Hospital has demonstrated a new way to refresh T cells, by essentially replacing their batteries.

To be clear, it wasn’t the Haitians who filed suit, but “the leader of a nonprofit representing the Haitian community”. Once again, proglodyte activists are hunting for purported offenses they can exploit in service to their degenerate agenda.
