This is a victory for Harley riders, as the company now pledges to focus its sponsorships on motorcycling, first responders, active military, and veterans. Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes and Musk had spent months battling over online free speech, with Musk refusing the justice’s aggressive and extensive censorship demands. On Saturday, X’s Global Government Affairs announced its decision to close the Brazil office due to De Moraes’s shocking threats to X staff over alleged “disinformation” on the platform. X is still available to Brazilians, however.

“The decision to close the ? office in Brazil was difficult, but, if we had agreed to @alexandre’s (illegal) secret censorship and private information handover demands, there was no way we could explain our actions without being ashamed,” Musk commented on X.

Do Columbia University administrators actually want a governable university where students can learn free of disruption and harassment from their own classmates?

Former university president Minouche Shafik threw in the towel last week rather than return to campus. She presided over a period last spring in which Columbia became ground zero for student radicals. Shafik coddled them for weeks, beseeching them to get off her lawn, please, if it wouldn’t inconvenience them too much, until they stormed a university building.

On Monday, we learned how the university has dealt with the criminals in its midst. The House Committee on Education and the Workforce released information obtained from Columbia indicating how the university has meted out discipline in an array of cases. They range from protesters who participated in the unlawful encampment to those who broke into Hamilton Hall to students who disrupted the school’s alumni weekend in late May, plastering cardboard rockets with the photographs of Columbia trustees and other university leaders.

CANDIDATE: Yes, I do.

Former Texas Children’s Hospital nurse Vanessa Sivadge says that she has been terminated after blowing the whistle on the hospital’s alleged use of Texas Medicaid to cover attempted sex changes for children.

Texas Children’s has denied that it used Texas Medicaid to cover cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers for minors, as Sivadge has alleged. The hospital did not immediately respond to The Daily Signal’s multiple requests for comment about the alleged termination on Monday afternoon.

In a written statement to journalist Chris Rufo, Sivadge shared that she submitted a religious accommodation request to her supervisor at the hospital on May 31, asking to be transferred out of the endocrinology clinic.

Trayon White, the liberal Washington, D.C., council member who said Jews manipulate the weather in a scheme to “own” American cities, was arrested by the FBI on Sunday for taking part in a $156,000 bribery scheme.

White, who appeared poised to secure a third term on the council this November prior to the arrest, was detained by federal authorities at his “luxury high-rise apartment building” in D.C.’s Navy Yard neighborhood, according to the Washington Post. White allegedly took “thousands of dollars in cash” and other gifts in exchange for ensuring city contracts went to a local businessman, according to CNN, which said the Democrat “agreed to take $156,000 in cash for his work—or 3 percent of the contracts’ value.”

White was reportedly caught asking for cash on in taped conversations with the unnamed businessman who was acting as an informant after pleading guilty to separate federal bribery charges.

China appears to have installed a laser directed energy weapon on one of its Type 071 amphibious assault ships, mirroring U.S. and other nations’ expanding activities in the same arena. Recent actions against Houthi drones in the Red Sea have helped to spur further interest in fitting warships with directed energy weapons of various types, although most of China’s activities with laser weapons have, so far, been conducted on land.

A photo that recently appeared on social media shows an apparently newly installed laser weapon on a People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) Type 071 amphibious transport dock, the vessel having reportedly just emerged from a refit. The system is mounted immediately aft of the 76mm dual-purpose gun on the ship’s bow. When not in use, the weapon is concealed under a relatively large dome-like cover.

Illegal immigration into Spain’s Canary Islands “remains at extreme levels” and will almost certainly get worse in the second half of August, a Civil Guard report has said.

The number of arrivals is on the verge of breaking the all-time record, and will soon likely pass 30,000 so far this year. The report, seen by Spanish outlet La Gaceta, says this could happen in the coming weeks after 2,200 illegal migrants arrived in July.

That number was the highest total for a July since 2006, when 2,260 arrived.

Yet another pride organization founder gets arrested on suspicion of being a child predator, proving once again that when LGBT activists focus on children and gender ideology it’s okay to be suspicious.

Stephen Ireland, the 40-year-old founder and former director of LGBT activist charity ‘Pride in Surrey’, has been arrested on a total of 37 charges involving child sexual abuse. Ireland is an avid proponent of child indoctrination into gender ideology and was a patron of a charity called ‘Educate And Celebrate.’ The charity ran Pride workshops for primary and secondary school pupils, which included “How to break the binary and be gender inclusive”.

In 2022 trans activist Jordan Gray, another patron of Educate And Celebrate, prompted nearly 1,500 complaints when the performer stripped-off during a live Channel 4 show before appearing to play a piano with his penis. The comedian had previously described going into schools to “talk about gender” on behalf of the charity, adding that “toddlers kind of get it straight away”.

There is nothing abnormal about deviance. This is a lesson I learned growing up during the 1950s and early 1960s in an Italian American neighborhood called Collinwood on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio. While the neighborhood had plenty of conformity, there was also sufficient forbearance for enough deviance to make life interesting and educational.

Years later in the early to mid-1970s, I found myself a Ph.D. student in a seminar on the works of the French sociologist Emile Durkheim. I was pleasantly surprised that the lesson I learned growing up was one of Durkheim’s important sociological insights into our common life.

Durkheim showed that deviance performs at least four important functions in society. It affirms our cultural values and norms; clarifies our moral boundaries; brings us together; and encourages social change by challenging our views. Moreover, our neighborhood was a good example of what’s called the Durkheim Constant: there is a limit to the amount of deviant behavior that a community will tolerate since deviant behavior causes conflict.

The pursuit of a cure for Alzheimer’s disease is becoming an increasingly competitive and contentious quest with recent years witnessing several important controversies.

In July 2022, Science magazine reported that a key 2006 research paper, published in the prestigious journal Nature, which identified a subtype of brain protein called beta-amyloid as the cause of Alzheimer’s, may have been based on fabricated data.

One year earlier, in June 2021, the US Food and Drug Administration had approved aducanumab, an antibody-targeting beta-amyloid, as a treatment for Alzheimer’s, even though the data supporting its use were incomplete and contradictory.

Some physicians believe aducanumab never should have been approved, while others maintain it should be given a chance.

With millions of people needing an effective treatment, why are researchers still fumbling in this quest for a cure for what is arguably one of the most important diseases confronting humankind?

The Fourth Amendment’s protection against unreasonable searches and seizures extends to the length of a seizure, a federal court ruled last week, significantly restricting how long law enforcement can retain private property after an arrest.

“When the government seizes property incident to a lawful arrest, the Fourth Amendment requires that any continued possession of the property must be reasonable,” wrote Judge Gregory Katsas of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia in a unanimous ruling.

Most courts of appeal to pass judgment on the issue—namely, the 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th, and 11th circuits—have held that, once an item is seized, law enforcement can retain the item indefinitely without violating the Fourth Amendment. These precedents have allowed police to retain personal property without clear legal grounds, effectively stripping people of their property rights merely because they were arrested. The D.C. Court of Appeals’ ruling complicates this general consensus.

Legacy media outlets and left-leaning nonprofits may seek to distance themselves from the anti-Israel protests on college campuses and in Washington, D.C., many of which have devolved into outright antisemitism. Yet influential outlets and activist groups have at least one key tie to a notorious group supporting the anti-Israel protests, and an organization that represents more than 2,500 Orthodox Jewish rabbis is sounding the alarm.

Despite its anodyne name, Jewish Voice for Peace enflames anti-Israel sentiment. On the very day that Hamas terrorists raped, murdered, and took hostages in Israel (Oct. 7, 2023), JVP leaders blamed “Israeli apartheid and occupation” as “the source of all this violence.”

In the weeks afterward, Jewish Voice for Peace rallygoers in Providence, Rhode Island, chanted, “Hey hey, ho ho, the Yahudi [Jews] have got to go!” JVP speakers in Philadelphia stated: “The anticolonial armed resistance out of the Gaza Strip was provoked by decades of Israeli state-sanctioned violence and to report it otherwise is false and misleading.”

This underscores my suspicion that Islam is a deliberate attempt by Satan to extirpate the Chosen People of God. Prove me wrong.

An Idaho man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a woman in California more than 50 years ago, authorities said.

DNA evidence led investigators to identify Michael Eugene Mullen, 75, as a suspect in the death of Nina “Nadine” Fischer in 1973, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said. Mullen was arrested near Salmon, Idaho, on Wednesday, and he is being held in jail while awaiting extradition to California.

Frustrated by years of reckless driving, Oakland homeowners took action by placing dirt- and rock-filled tires on busy streets.

On Tuesday, city crews faced hecklers while removing the tires from East 21st Street, according to Fox KTVU.

As the United States continues its rush to shutter the nation’s remaining coal plants, energy analysts are debating what should fill the gap to meet the growing need for electricity. Increasingly, many are pointing to nuclear energy as the solution.

One of the great mysteries about the January 6, 2021, events is the lack of curiosity by the FBI about who planted the pipe bombs at the DNC and RNC headquarters. Amid all of the available CCTV video and surveillance technology exploited by the justice department, their transparent unwillingness to identify the pipe bomber has always been a dog that did not bark.

The Occam’s Razor explanation for why DC and federal law enforcement have been incurious, points to law enforcement actually planting the bombs. New CCTV video seems to show exactly that.

Reports that migrant relocation programs were going to flood rural Irish locations with foreign elements raised eyebrows (and raised questions) last month as to the purpose of transplanting the third-world into outlying villages in the UK. The theory, which holds considerable validity, is that western countries are being destabilized from within by corrupt progressive leaders with the intent to upend traditional western society and replace it with a self-devouring multicultural soup that is easier to convert to globalism. Rural areas of the west are commonly viewed as safe havens away from the corrosive politics of woke socialism, and the targeting of these places seems to verify everyone’s worst fears about open borders.

MPs voted for legislation last year that would ban silent prayer within ‘buffer zones’ 150 metres around the location of a clinic or hospital providing abortion services.

However, this has not come come into force and guidance was subsequently published allowing silent prayer within ‘safe access zones’ where activists would be able to hand out leaflets and engage in conversations with women considering abortions.

The guidance stated that, “Silent prayer, being the engagement of the mind and thought in prayer towards God, is protected as an absolute right under the Human Rights Act 1998 and should not, on its own, be considered to be an offence under any circumstances.”

The issue shot to public attention in March 2023 when campaigner Isabel Vaughan-Spruce was arrested by police for silently praying in front of a British Pregnancy Advisory Services clinic that was subject to a ‘buffer zone’ order.
