slamist militants attacked a hotel used by government officials in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Sunday evening, police and witnesses said.
Al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab, which controls large swathes of the country, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying in a statement that it was targeting the nearby presidential palace.
“We were shaken by a huge blast, followed by heavy exchange of gunfire,” said Ahmed Abdullahi, who lives close to the scene. “We are just indoors and listening to gunfire.”

TV currently abounds with “I thought they were dead” revival projects: series in which your favourite 1980s movie stars are given a new lease of life and you are reminded — with luck — how much you loved them. Kevin Costner is doing very well in Yellowstone; Ralph Macchio is milking the Karate Kid legacy for all it’s worth in Cobra Kai; Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow had a decent run in The Old Man. Now it’s the turn of Sylvester Stallone in Tulsa King.

By definition, every weapon is made for assaulting someone or something. It’s the equivalent of referring to a “sleep bed” or a “drive car” or a “dig shovel.” People who understand firearms and actually use them have been explaining the true definition of an assault weapon with the repetitive fortitude of Mike Lindell. We should all know by now that the “AR” in AR-15 does not stand for “assault rifle.” It stands for “ArmaLite Rifle,” the company that pioneered the AR-15.
We should also all know that “assault weapon,” until the left perverted the term, referred to a gun with selective fire capabilities, meaning you can switch it from automatic fire to semiautomatic fire. These types of weapons are largely reserved for military usage (true “military-style” weapons). They are not for sale at your local gun store, and acquiring one as a civilian is very costly and difficult to do, as they’ve been heavily regulated since the passage of the National Firearms Act in 1934.
Even Joe Biden must know these basic facts, yet he and fellow liberals insist on using the term “assault weapon” to refer to any gun they’d like to see banned. Which is all of them. And Biden just admitted to that by saying there’s no reason to own a semiautomatic weapon. As many have pointed out, “most modern guns” are semiautomatic. The NRA notes, “Semi-automatic pistols are America’s favorite category of firearm. Moreover, pistols chambered in Biden’s dreaded 9mm are the most popular pistol in this category.”

Below is the recently-released documentary video Died Suddenly. It concerns the worldwide surge of excess deaths that has been underway since the rollout of the experimental mRNA treatment intended to mitigate the effects of infection with the Wuhan Coronavirus.
This documentary focuses primarily on the strange elongated rubbery “blood clots” that have frequently been found in the blood vessels of deceased people by undertakers and embalmers, beginning when the vax was first introduced. The accounts given by multiple embalmers about the clots, and the visual evidence of the clots themselves, are what make the video so valuable — the independent testimony from so many witnesses is difficult to refute.
The rest of the footage contains a lot of sensationalized material, including clips of people who collapse suddenly. Some of these may be fakes, and some samples were definitely taken from videos that predate the COVID hysteria. But the sections featuring the embalmers are convincing, and very important.

Please let that sink in: the person running on the Democratic ticket for governor in the state of Arizona is the very same person assigned to oversee the security and accuracy of the election. Nah, just kidding. Open Threads are for blogs that are interested in conversation. That ain’t this.
This blog is not intended to spark ‘conversations’ among readers. (If it were, I’d have one of those snazzy plug-ins that actually threaded reader responses, rather than just tipping them into a pile.) It exists to be a dumping ground for stuff with which I would otherwise pester my friends. (Note to self: Do rant on ending sentences with a preposition. Also one on using ‘if’ where you ought to use ‘ought’.)(Maybe one on what preposition to use after ‘different’.)
This blog is intended to publicize things that I find interesting, and in passing document some of the more absurd things that the Evil Party are doing to this country. (If you can’t remember the latest thing that a Stupid Democrat Or Worse did, come here and search. You might find it.) You will note a certain imbalance. That is because Stupid People do more Stupid Things than Interesting People do Interesting Things. (Not My Fault.) Or you could just read the Babylon Bee.
Think of it as a political Ted Talk, without the Wokeness and on-stage preening.
You want to make a snarky comment, feel free. You want to call me names, get banned.

A new government in Italy was elected partly because of promises to do something about the people smuggling from North Africa used corrupt North African governments. Italian gangsters and EU (European Union) countries far from the Mediterranean back NGOs (non-government organizations) which operate boats to take the illegal migrants directly to European (mainly Italian) ports where the migrants are deposited and claim asylum. According to EU rules that means they can stay, often in Italy. This becomes a problem for local Italians who are not prepared to absorb so many migrants, who become an economic burden for Italy and contribute to a rising crime rate.
The new government in Italy refused to allow an NGO “rescue boat” to unload its 230 passengers in Italy. For a while the NGOs were able to land their illegal migrants in Malta, which lies between North Africa and Italy. Malta joined the EU in 2003 and found that EU rules obliged it to accept illegal migrants from North Africa who were picked up by NGO rescue boats and taken to the nearest EU nation where they were they could claim asylum. This was quite a burden for Malta, with a population of only half a million. In contrast Italy has 60 million and France 65 million. In 2015 Malta began refusing to allow the NGO boats to land, so the NGO boats took their passengers to Italy, The EU criticized Malta but did not try to force Malta to accept the illegals. At first Italy went along with accepting the illegals but eventually that became a political issue in Italy and now the NGO boats must take their passengers to France, which protested when 230 illegals were landed at a French port. The NGO boats are sponsored by EU members far from the problem, mainly Norway and Germany. Most EU members would prefer that all these illegals land in Italy, where most of the migrants will stay and become a problem for Italy but not the rest of the EU nations.

The White House has twitted (why hasn’t it yet migrated to Mastodon?) a list of “some talking points when ‘that Uncle’ comes ‘at you’ about @POTUS”. After several decades, therapeutic cancer vaccines now show signs of efficacy and potential to help patients resistant to other standard-of-care immunotherapies, but they have yet to realize their full potential and expand the oncologic armamentarium. Here, we classify cancer vaccines by what is known of the included antigens, which tumors express those antigens and where the antigens colocalize with antigen-presenting cells, thus delineating predefined vaccines (shared or personalized) and anonymous vaccines (ex vivo or in situ). To expedite clinical development, we highlight the need for accurate immune monitoring of early trials to acknowledge failures and advance the most promising vaccines.

Broadly speaking, the recent electoral tremors have been based on an education split, graduates voting for the status quo, non-graduates seeking to overturn it. In Brexit, 29 of the 30 areas with the highest proportion of graduates voted Remain, while the cohort overall split 57%-43% compared to 48%-52% for the country as a whole. Hilary Clinton won graduates by 11% while losing non-graduates by 7%. By the 2020 election, the gap had widened to 14% and 15% respectively. In the recent French election, there was an almost linear relationship between education level and voting, with President Macron winning the run-off votes of 78% of higher degree-holders, 63% of degree-holders, 53% of those with a baccalaureate, but just 44% of those with no qualifications.
The commentator David Goodhart attempted to explain these data by introducing the notion of “Anywheres” and “Somewheres”. The former are those who do well at school, go to good universities before progressing to well-paying jobs in big cities or overseas. The latter, leaving school with few or no qualifications, find the university route blocked so are forced into low-paying jobs in their hometowns with little or no opportunity for progression. The modern globalised world works for “Anywheres”. It does not for “Somewheres”. To Goodhart, Brexit and the other political upheavals of recent years represent an attempted revolution by a group who finds itself in a world which no longer caters to its needs.
