Well, sort of.
I read an SF book once, don’t remember the name, where construction was effected by putting a pile of materials on site and having drones assemble them in a predefined order–each component had an ID, and the drones knew where each piece was and where it fell in the assembly process. That would be useful. This … not so much. But I suppose it’s a step in the right direction.

Among shooting suspects, 85 percent are first- or second-generation immigrants, according to the newspaper Dagens Nyheter, as immigrant neighborhoods have become hotbeds for gang crime. National Police Commissioner Anders Thornberg has described the violence as “an entirely different kind of brutality than we’ve seen before” and his deputy, Mats Löfving, says that 40 criminal clans now operate throughout the country. Spreading fear are “humiliation robberies,” targeting children and youth, in which victims are subjected to degrading treatment by assailants, such as being urinated upon. Just this week, four men were sentenced for robbing, beating and urinating on an 18-year-old, who was also filmed by his tormentors.
Guess–just guess–where most of those immigrants are from. (C’mon, guess.)

Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi walked away from his first-ever interview on U.S. soil because the interviewer, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, said she would not wear an Islamic headscarf.
Amanpour, who also hosts a show for PBS, on Wednesday wrote on Twitter that she was ready to interview Raisi in New York City “after weeks of planning and eight hours of setting up.” Forty minutes after Raisi was supposed to show up, a presidential aide told Amanpour that she could not interview Raisi without a headscarf.
She refused, and Raisi pulled out from the interview.

We have learned in recent weeks that there is such a thing as an Archivist of the United States at the head of the National Archives and Records Administration and that the position is not unimportant. President Biden has nominated one Colleen Shogan to fill the position and she appeared for a confirmation hearing before the Senate Homeland Security Committee yesterday. C-SPAN has posted video of the hearing here. ABC News reports on the hearing here with some useful background.
Senator Josh Hawley examined Shogan concerning her 2007 Perspectives on Politics article “Anti-intellectualism in the Modern Presidency: Republican Populism.” (Perspectives on Politics is the American Political Science Association’s flagship journal.) In C-SPAN’s summary, “Shogan says the article was about Republican presidents’ use of rhetoric and their success connecting with the American people. She also says that she is non-partisan and has a demonstrated record during her 15 years of service at the Congressional Research Service, the Library of Congress, and the White House Historical Association.”
Senator Hawley questioned Shogan closely about the article (video clip below). His examination of her is exemplary. It is amazing how disingenuous Shogan is and how Hawley is able to expose her evasions so quickly. “I have your article. Don’t dissemble in front of me,” he told her. Nevertheless, she persisted.

Adams consistently poked fun at how Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues affected the workplace. One of the many focuses of the ESG philosophy is to make sure that workplaces are diverse, since that automatically means that a company will perform better (wink). “All of the wokeness and anything that permeated from ESG … so that stuff made its way into the business world, and then it became proper content for Dilbert,” Adams said. “The problem is that people see that even though it’s a workplace-related joke, but it’s more about how they implement it.”
On his daily podcast, Coffee With Scott Adams (on LOCALS, highly recommended), Scott explains that since he’s already rich he can do stuff like that.

A fifth day of protests in Iran have resulted in multiple deaths amid a security crackdown, following the death last week of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old from Iranian Kurdistan who reportedly died due to being roughed up by police for “unsuitable attire” – or not conforming to Islamic Republic standards of a hijab.
Iranian officials say seven people have died since protests erupted Saturday, following Amini’s funeral, where women began removing their headscarves in protest, sometimes burning them in public displays of defiance. Demonstrators have decried instances of what they say is ‘live fire’ tactics and deadly forced used by police to disperse the protests, which have now spread across several provinces.

In the video, a massive crowd cheers as a woman lifts a pair of scissors to her hair — exposed, without a hijab in sight. The sea of people, many of them men, roar as she chops off her ponytail and raises her fist in the air.
It was a powerful act of defiance Tuesday night in the Iranian city of Kerman, where women are required to wear hijabs (or headscarves) in public, as outrage over the death of a woman in police custody fuels protests across the country.

Iran will use cash assets provided by the Biden administration as part of a new nuclear accord to fund regional terror groups and enhance the capabilities of a militant network committed to assassinating U.S. officials, according to written testimony to Congress from a top U.S. military commander exclusively obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
Gen. Stephen Townsend, who led U.S. Africa Command until August of this year, in March warned Congress that Iran is certain to use “at least some of the resources gained from sanctions relief to” increase its illicit shipment of advanced weapons to terror groups operating in Africa and the Near East region, according to written information he provided to Sen. Joni Ernst (R., Iowa) after a public hearing before Congress.
In addition to boosting Iran’s terror allies like the Houthi rebels in Yemen, sanctions relief will enable Tehran to expand its Iranian Threat Network, a group of terror cells run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’s Quds Force that is focused on assassinating American officials, according to Townsend.

The undocumented migrants who were transferred to Martha’s Vineyard have quickly adopted one common American practice: litigation. A firm, Lawyers for Civil Rights, in conjunction with the migrant-led nonprofit Alianza Americas, filed the action on behalf of Yanet Doe, Pablo Doe and Jesus Doe who are using pseudonyms for the action “on behalf of themselves and all others similarly situated.” The filing is a Jackson Pollock of legal claims with twelve claims thrown against Florida from false imprisonment to intentional infliction of emotional distress to misuse of the Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Fund. The splattering of claims face considerable legal barriers based on the consent of the migrants, as shown in a waiver released by Florida.
An obvious put-up job by Democrat lawyers and ‘activists’ who aren’t happy that their hypocrisy is being outed.

For more than three days now, left-wing TV networks have refused to report on the politically-motivated killing of 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson, a conservative, by 41-year-old Shannon Brandt in North Dakota.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, Brandt hit the teenager with his car, reportedly due to a political disagreement, before driving off. Brandt admitted to police that the collision was a deliberate attack, and that he had been motivated by Ellingson’s political affiliation. According to court documents, Ellingson called his mother twice and asked her to pick him up, saying that someone was chasing him. By the time she arrived to collect her son, Brandt had already run him down and left the scene.
A review of news coverage on leftwing broadcast (ABC, CBS, and NBC) and cable (CNN and MSNBC) outlets revealed that none of these networks have given the attack even one second of airtime. Both Fox News and Newsmax covered the incident on Tuesday evening during the 7 p.m. Eastern hour.

Turkey continues its path of international aggression and embrace of Islamist ideas. As the Western world grapples with the effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Turkey is directly threatening to invade Greece, a fellow NATO member.
During a Sept. 3 speech at an aerial technology festival in Samsun, eastern Turkey, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan explicitly threatened that the Turkish army will “come down suddenly one night” in the Greek isles of the Eastern Aegean The phrase is taken from a song referring to Turkey’s 1974 invasion of Cyprus, a state with an ethnic Greek majority, and is an allusion to an invasion of Greece. Erdogan has used the same phrase to refer to possible military intervention in Syria and Iraq against Kurdish militants.
According to the state-run Anadolu news agency, Erdogan questioned Greece’s territorial sovereignty over its islands in the eastern Aegean Sea: “Athens’ occupying islands does not bind us. When [the] time comes, we will do what’s necessary.”

I posted last month about the trial of a young female convert to Islam in the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland. The young lady in question had wanted to do jihad like the guys, only better, so she stabbed two women in a department store in Lugano. She has now been convicted in a Swiss court.
If this had been Sweden, she would probably have received a suspended sentence of six months with two years’ probation. Switzerland, however, threw the book at her: she has been sentenced to nine years in a mental health facility.

Educators and administrators running K-12 education on America’s military bases are indoctrinating the children of military personnel in radical gender ideology, critical race theory, and left-wing activism. In a new Claremont Institute investigative report, my colleague Scott Yenor and I document this latest evolution in America’s culture war.
This development at military-run schools tracks broader trends in American education. In recent months, Chris Rufo has exposed the rampant woke indoctrination occurring in our nation’s K-12 schools, with striking examples from Los Angeles, Portland, and San Diego. In 2020, Rod Dreher wrote about the creeping woke rot at America’s oldest military academy.

A Norwegian yards group, Westcon, has put in place an agreement with Sweden-based company SeaTwirl to deploy 1MW vertical axis wind turbines in the North Sea by next year, Recharge News has reported. This commercial scale vertical axis turbine could kick off a new era in offshore wind farms delivering cost competitiveness very soon.
…
The vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) offer a slew of advantages over conventionally used horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWTs). The latter relies on sophisticated instruments that tell them in which direction the breeze is flowing in and where to point themselves for maximum power generation. The turbines of a VAWT can harness power from all directions, so they can work without such equipment.

ZMan points out some inconvenient truth.
The blank slate crowd are sure that everything about a human society is a construction of the mind and can therefore be deconstructed. Western society, which has towered over the rest of mankind for more than five hundred years, can be disassembled and then reassembled to put non-Western people in charge. There is no evidence to support the claim, but a great global experiment is underway, nonetheless. There is mass migration from the Global south into the West.
A dozen years ago, Jason Richwine did his doctoral thesis in the topic and found that migration into the United States from the south was decreasing the quality of human capital by reducing the over all IQ of the population. He relied upon the mountain of IQ studies that show the average intelligence of Hispanics to be ten points below the average for Europeans. The usual suspects flew into a rage and had Jason Richwine condemned for heresy.
No one bothered to challenge the conclusions of his study, as that would suggest moral claims can be subject to objective measures. A key component of any religion is that the moral claims are unassailable. The new religion of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity operates like every other religion. Its principles are beyond question. In this case, it means that all people are equally capable and the differences seen between people are due to the racism of white people.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II has dominated headlines this month, homages to her reign and dissections of the Harry and Meghan situation unsurprisingly pushing other news aside, especially other stories from Britain.
But even amid all the pomp, one news item out of Britain has attracted curiously little attention. Liz Truss, the new Conservative prime minister, announced her cabinet, and for the first time ever, not a single member of the inner circle — what’s referred to as the Great Offices of State — is a white man.
The home secretary, Suella Braverman, is the daughter of Kenyan and Mauritian immigrants. The mother of Foreign Minister James Cleverly emigrated from Sierra Leone. The new chancellor of the Exchequer, Kwasi Kwarteng, was born to Ghanaian parents.
Did the left break into applause? Were there hosannas throughout progressive Twitter heralding this racial, ethnic and gender diversity as a step forward for society?
Not exactly.

The immigrants are being transported from Republican-led border states to northern Democratic enclaves, which have long proclaimed themselves “sanctuaries” for the migrants they are now so appalled to find arriving. Democrats charge that it’s a stunt, and they are partly right. But it is a very shrewd stunt with a far-reaching impact. Although the buses carry a vanishingly small number of the illegals arriving daily in Texas and Arizona, they are making several big points.

What people in the UK may not realise is that there are teams of contractors who start the American harvest in the south, almost on the Mexican border, and as the year progresses, they move steadily north, combining as they go. After all, the further north, the later the harvest. They finish somewhere in Canada playing chicken with winter.
Now some of these chaps work closely with the major machinery manufacturers. After all they might have several big combines and tractors and they will change them every three years. Not surprisingly, because their machinery works hard. They can be combining, 24 hours a day, for days on end when harvest is ready. So, some of these contractors will effectively have new machinery on standing order. It’s metaphorically got their name on it even as it proceeds along the production line.
One of these chaps was approached by a representative of the company he deals with. The company wanted him to go electric.
His response was simple. “How do I charge these combines when they are many miles from an electrical mains supply, in the middle of a cornfield, in the middle of nowhere?” “How do I run them 24 hours a day for 10 or 12 days straight when the harvest is ready, and the bad weather is coming in?” “How do I get a 50,000+ lb. combine that takes up the width of an entire road back to mains electricity 20 miles away when the battery goes dead?”
Apparently, the answer is ‘we’re working on it’.
Uh, yeah….
