Let’s Separate State and Education

21st September 2022

Sarah Hoyt.

What I am calling for is a cold, hard look at the utility of mass-industrial, state enforced education as we head out of the mass-production, mass-skills era.

Agreed – State, or better, government enforced education – is not a good thing.

However, at a State level, working with county level or the School District level some common interests in the competency of teachers and the (basic) standardization of entry curriculum could be established and supported. Mass education based on government or federal requirements must be abandoned and replaced with local, community driven expectations. That will take parent and community / neighborhood involvement and has to be hashed out at the local level. An individual American State could help and support that.

Getting rid of the Federal Department of Education would be a step in the right direction.
