Public schools have broken a sacred trust. Parents have both the right and responsibility to care for, teach and train their children. When they send them to a public school (or a private one, for that matter) they are allowing that school to teach those children on their behalf. It is a sacred trust. The parent is trusting the school to provide education for the children on behalf of the parent whose job and right it is to bring up their children as they see fit.
It is not up to the educator to decide what kind of person they would like to produce. It is not up to the educator to instill values in their children that are contrary to the wishes of the parents. It is not up to the educator to make the children do something the parent does not want them to do. For educators to do this, as it is being done today, is to break a sacred trust.
People who send their children to ‘Christian’ schools have know this, and acted on that knowledge, for half a century. The Pandemic Panic has brought reality home to those who thought that living in a Ritzy Suburb meant that the local public schools were as safe for People Like Us as private schools would be.

Novels are powerful teaching tools because they’re more fun than textbooks, and fun is good. Educational and entertaining are treated like foils, but they’re actually complimentary. If something is entertaining, it holds your attention; if it holds your attention, you will be able to engage; if you engage you can learn something. If something is boring or tedious you will go look at twitter or pick your nose instead. Sh?gun doesn’t teach you quite as much Japanese as you would get from a Japanese 101 course at the local university, but we guarantee it’s twice as fun and two hundred times easier to read Sh?gun than it is to take all those quizzes.

Clunky, costly, highly regulated health systems, often dominated by rent-seeking middlemen, are being shaken up by firms that target patients directly, meet them where they are—which is increasingly online—and give them more control over how to access care. Scientific advances in fields such as gene sequencing and AI make new modes of care possible. E-pharmacies fulfil prescriptions, wearable devices monitor wearers’ health in real time, tele-medicine platforms connect patients with physicians, and home tests enable self-diagnosis.

ZMan does a paradigm shift.
One of the problems with the Opposite Rule of Liberalism is that it relies on the old Left-Right dichotomy of American politics. This framing persists despite the fact that it is a vestige of a bygone era that no longer works today. The political divide is now between those who adhere to the basket of ideas called Western liberalism and those who defend the post-Marxist managerial state. The latter group is made up almost entirely of members of the ruling class.
In other words, we now live in a world divided by those in the system of control that hovers over the West and those who live under it. The Dirt People versus Cloud People framing is a much more honest, if a bit sarcastic, framework for the world. The ruling system is like a miasma that hangs over society, infecting the minds of the people and their relations with one another. We can see the elites at the top, just barely, but the system they control is all around us.

At least one person was killed and another five were wounded in a shooting during a protest in Portland over police violence. According to preliminary reports from the scene, the shooting took place Saturday night at Normandale Park in the Oregonian city following a “confrontation” between a protester and a nearby homeowner, both of whom were reportedly armed.
Oddly enough, the police apparently didn’t shoot anybody.
The number of homicides in Portland last year surpassed the number in more populous cities such as San Francisco and Boston, and was more than double the number of slayings in nearby Seattle, which has a population of nearly 200K more people.
Doesn’t sound to me as if ‘police violence’ is the problem.

The Iranian government is quietly ramping up the confiscation of private property owned by the country’s Baha’i faith community amid a “rising trend” of Iranian state-sanctioned land grabs and media propaganda campaigns targeting the religious minority, the Baha’i representative body warned on Wednesday.
Baha’i advocates said the Iranian government has been using court orders to seize the land in a “piecemeal fashion” in an attempt to “evade the notice of the international community.”
Another reminder that Islam is an oppressive totalitarian ideology in the guise of a religion with which no co-existence is possible.

While the federal government can avoid some of the harmful effects of wage-setting by politicians, this executive order may provide a temporary—though limited—dose of economic reality.
At least within the current fiscal year, federal agencies’ budgets are limited by what Congress has allocated to them. Thus, having to pay certain workers more to do the exact same thing will force agencies to make some of the same decisions that businesses have to confront when policymakers set minimum wages above market wages.
The natural response of employers to government-imposed minimum wage hikes is to lay off workers or to shift the composition of their workforce to eliminate lower-skilled labor. Employers also respond by reducing or eliminating benefits like health insurance and retirement contributions and taking away scheduling flexibility.
But most of those things aren’t options for federal agencies. For starters, it takes about a year-and-a-half to fire a federal worker, and the convoluted and painstaking process takes so much time and effort on the part of managers that most have determined it’s not worth the effort—even if it does result in deadweight and adverse workers keeping their jobs.
Moreover, federal agencies have very little control over salary and benefits, and federal unions staunchly oppose anything that might result in less flexibility for federal workers.
Thus, federal departments are likely to have to cut back on services and on needed modernizations. In particular, this will most directly impact the Department of Defense and defense contractors.
