Most readers are aware that unvaxed activists have been trolling the vaxed snowflakes online by referring to those who have not been injected with the experimental mRNA treatment as “Purebloods”. It’s a good tactic, because it takes the conversation to a place the pro-vaxers would be smarter to avoid.
…
As our dystopia emerges fully in the next few months, it’s possible that the unvaxed will start wearing buttons or hats with “Pureblood” emblazoned on them to proudly proclaim their dissident status. I’m a severe introvert, so I probably won’t do it myself, but the idea of it makes me smile.

In 2005, the psychologist Agnieszka Golec de Zavala was researching extremist groups, trying to understand what leads people to commit acts of terrorist violence. She began to notice something that looked a lot like what the 20th-century scholars Theodor Adorno and Erich Fromm had referred to as “group narcissism”: Golec de Zavala defined it to me as “a belief that the exaggerated greatness of one’s group is not sufficiently recognized by others,” in which that thirst for recognition is never satiated. At first, she thought it was a fringe phenomenon, but important nonetheless. She developed the Collective Narcissism Scale to measure the severity of group-narcissistic beliefs, including statements such as “My group deserves special treatment” and “I insist upon my group getting the respect that is due to it” with which respondents rate their agreement.

Any person who produces art or literature, or who offers up anything at all for public consumption, must have a thick skin. Harsh reviews are as much a part of the writing life as days in front of a blank screen. But Jessie Tu’s recent article in the Sydney Morning Herald about Irish novelist Sally Rooney strikes a nastier tone than most scathing book reviews manage. It is symptomatic of an increasingly prevalent trend in literature, according to which the identity of the writer is more important than the words on the page. If your reaction is to scoff and retort that this is exactly what happened when white men dominated publishing, well okay. But that injustice is simply being re-rehearsed in reverse—this time, the wolf preens in progressive sheep’s clothing, masquerading as virtuous while advocating a heavily regressive approach to reading.

A northern California town has declared itself a “constitutional republic” in response to Covid-19 health restrictions imposed by the governor, in the latest sign of strife between the state’s government and its rural and conservative regions.
The city council in Oroville, located at the base of the Sierra Nevada foothills about 90 miles from the capital of Sacramento, adopted a resolution this week stating it would oppose state and federal orders it deems to be government overreach.
Oroville leaders said the designation was a way of affirming the city’s values and pushing back against state rules it doesn’t agree with, although a legal expert said the designation was merely a gesture and did not grant the city any new authority.
And the sheep push back.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Chairman Menendez Fail to Question the Nominee for U.S. Ambassador to Turkey about Terrorism
Several times this year, the U.S. State Department and Treasury Department have cited Turkey as a financial base for ISIS and al-Qaeda.
Turkey has long sponsored ISIS and other international terrorist organizations. No serious analyst disputes this.
Turkey has armed, financed, and deployed terrorists in such locations as Syria, Libya, and Azerbaijan.
On September 28, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC) and Chairman Robert Menendez (D-NJ) quizzed President Biden’s nominee to be ambassador to Turkey, former U.S. Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ).

The Gender Plan asserts that America has failed to deliver on its promise of equality to all. Using women as a pretext to address standard progressive priorities, the plan deplores the plight of marginalized minorities, who require a “shift in social and cultural norms,” not to mention universal health care, more immigration, more benefits for illegal immigrants, cashless bail, higher retirement benefits, a solution to the climate crisis, and institutionalizing the race-based practices of diversity, equity and inclusion throughout government.
The plan willfully confuses the core American principle of equality of opportunity with the goal of “equity, which is fundamentally discriminatory. Even in this encyclical about women, the Administration couldn’t advance a plan that was about women as women. Instead, the plan focuses only on women who are “of color, LGBTQI+ people, people with disabilities, and all those whose lives are affected by persistent poverty and inequality.” The plan promises that gender equity and equality are at the forefront of America’s foreign policy.

White House deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre conducted the press conference in the absence of the psychedelic Jen Psaki yesterday. In the Psaki pspirit, Peter Doocy “circled back” to the question he raised with Biden about settlement negotiations between the Biden Department of Justice and the ACLU. According to the Wall Street Journal, the negotiations were “circling in” on payments of $450,000 to illegal aliens allegedly traumatized by the unfriendly welcome they received during the Trump administration.
On Wednesday Biden told Doocy that the Wall Street Journal story was “garbage” and that the settlement “[wasn’t] going to happen.” The ACLU responded: “President Biden may not have been fully briefed about the actions of his very own Justice Department as it carefully deliberated and considered the crimes committed against thousands of families separated from their children as an intentional governmental policy.”
Government employees never seem to wake up to the fact that if you pay people who break the law, you will get more people breaking the law.

ZMan’s weekly podcast. Highly recommended.
One of the unnoticed things about the current crisis is that the people getting what they want are increasingly angry, while the people getting worked over by the system are remaining calm and patient, for the most part. The crazies got what they wanted through the Trump years. They snarled his administration in a made-up plot and convinced his own party to sabotage his efforts. This required little effort, as the GOP is just their dull-witted flunkies.
Then they purged him from the system. The 2020 election should have signaled the end of the madness. The evil orange man had been removed from office. The Republicans could crawn back under their beds and the Democrats could waste everyone’s time with their crackpot ideas. The media would not have hear every day that they are fake news or the enemy of the people. Everything was back to how it was. You would think that they would be celebrating in the streets.

The massive trade imbalance with China has left the US with an abundance of empty shipping containers piling up at warehouses and outside parking lots around ports. Sending shipping containers back to China is often a costly task for shipping companies, and many are left in the US.
So Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, thinking on his feet, is dealing with a twin crisis of containers and his state overrun by migrants because the Biden administration has ignored the border crisis, has repurposed containers as a makeshift wall to block illegals.

Imagine being able to design a new organism as easily as you can design a new integrated circuit. That’s the ultimate vision behind the computer-aided design (CAD) program being developed by the GP-write consortium.
“We’re taking the same things we’d do for design automation in electronics, and applying them to biology,” says Doug Densmore, an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at Boston University. One of Densmore’s startups, Lattice Automation, is leading the effort to develop the CAD. He says the first version will be available by the end of the year.
One of Densmore’s hopes for the project is that it will help computer scientists see a way to get involved in genetics and biology. “There are some really brilliant computer scientists out there, who might say, ‘I don’t get what this is doing biologically, but I like the coding,’” he notes.
Be the first on your block….

ZMan is delightfully dyspeptic today.
One of the rules of the universe is that you should never take advice from your enemy, unless you are a Republican. This is the one big exception to what should be a fairly obvious rule of life. This also applies to so-called conservatives, who love nothing more than taking advice from the people they claim are their opponents. On the other hand, so-called conservatives and Republicans never listen to their voters. You see this in the aftermath of the Tuesday elections.
Here we have an actor on a far left cable channel explaining how Glenn Youngkin beat Terry McAuliffe in Virginia. The cable channels always have these guys who pretend to know things that they cannot possibly know. They are less reliable than palm readers, but they are a staple of political coverage. In this case, the role of this guy is to explain why the Republican should read the election results as an embrace of the far-left agenda and use it as a road map for future elections.

The stunning defeat suffered by the Democrats in Virginia, a surprisingly close race in deep blue New Jersey and the defeat of a “police defunding measure” in Minneapolis represent a remarkable turning point in American politics. It is less an affirmation of a resurgent Trumpism than a rejection of what might be called Bidenism, an unnatural merger of traditional Democratic corporate politics with a radical, progressive agenda.
Appealing to what James Carville, Bill Clinton’s campaign manager, has dubbed “faculty lounge politics” — with its emphasis on Critical Race Theory, racial quotas, transgenderism and defunding the police — has become an obvious flaw in their political strategy. These positions might prove popular in certain sections of the media, but not so much among the public.

The U.S. Army has been preparing for a “near peer” (conventional enemy) war for over a decade now and one problem has gotten worse. For a near peer conflict the army needs rail lines from bases to ports as well as an adequate number of rail cars to carry heavy equipment. Currently about half the army rail lines from bases to the commercial mainlines are unusable because of delayed repairs. A five-year program to remedy this is behind schedule. There is also a shortage of army rail transportation troops, made worse by a 2015 reduction in railroad troops because the army believed they could rely on commercial railroad personnel in the U.S. and foreign nations to do the job. That proved to be too optimistic. When the availability of commercial railroad specialists was recently checked it was found that the needed personnel for wartime operations were not available in the numbers needed.
The last time there was a major movement of units to ports was in 2003, for the invasion of Iraq. During that period the army found that 67 percent of army vehicles and heavy equipment had to move by rail. The army could not repeat the 2003 performance now and a near-peer war would involve the initial movement of at least twice as many units as in 2003.

In the places that do allow pot shops and grows, business owners say high taxes, the limited availability of licenses, and expensive regulatory costs have put the legal market out of reach. And many of the Black and brown entrepreneurs who were supposed to benefit from legalization have actually ended up losing money. Meanwhile, consumers remain confused about what’s legal and what’s not.
Once again, government is the problem rather than the solution.

Like its global predecessors, the COP26 Glasgow conference will usher in a new wave of apocalyptic warnings about climate change. It will also likely prove no more successful, in terms of actually addressing the issue, than its predecessors, particularly as China, India and other developing countries ramp up their emissions.
Nevertheless, none of this will force the climate activists to reconsider how the current strategies against global warming could break the backs of the already beleaguered working and middle class. (For British readers, I use the phrase ‘middle class’ here in the American – less bourgeois – sense.) The climate chorus of celebrities, oligarchs and royals may feel virtuous, but for most people the future could prove to be propertyless proletarianisation. Many of those in Glasgow at the moment pray at the altar of ‘de-growth’. They want to limit the consumption of the working and middle classes, undermine their jobs, raise their energy bills, and inhibit their ability to buy property or travel.

If you are a good man living in a bad regime, you will necessarily be a bad citizen. That is Aristotle’s teaching. The current controversies surrounding the Claremont Institute, particularly its various fights with both the Left and Right, must be understood in this light.
What Aristotle meant is that if a regime is unjust, it will regard as good citizens only those who are unjust in the way the regime is unjust. Anyone who refuses to acquiesce in the regime’s injustice will be regarded as dangerous. Precisely the just men and women will be seen as disloyal to the ruling authority and as politically illegitimate. In the early 1940s, Germans who sheltered Jews were bad citizens of the Third Reich, and Russians who circulated books critical of Marxism were unfaithful to the ideals of the Soviet Union.
