San Francisco Neiman Marcus Looted in Broad Daylight

7th July 2021

Read it.

Video footage showed that at least nine vandals smashed display cases, took handbags and left the building before police arrived. They were seen entering a possible getaway car with their hands full of looted merchandise.

The San Francisco Police Department has not arrested anyone yet; however, according to the Washington Examiner, law enforcement is ”analyzing videos and speaking with witnesses” to identify the culprits.

Time to leave.

A Likely Mocro Mob Hit in Amsterdam

7th July 2021

Read it.

Ridouan Taghi is a Moroccan-Dutch mobster who has been in detention in the Netherlands since he was captured in Dubai in 2019. He is considered the most powerful and dangerous figure in Dutch organized crime (see previous posts on Mr. Taghi).

Peter R. de Vries is a Dutch investigative journalist who specializes in organized crime. In the Netherlands, as in most of the rest of Western Europe, organized crime is dominated by culture-enrichers. In the Dutch case, they’re mostly Moroccans, known colloquially as the Mocro Mob, with Ridouan Taghi as their leader. Mr. De Vries’ investigations had reportedly earned him a place on the hit list of the Mocro Mob, and now it appears that the hit against him has been carried out.

Jewish Student Killed by Stray Gunfire in Chicago

6th July 2021

Read it.

Max Lewis, 20, was commuting home from his summer internship Thursday when a bullet passed into his train and struck his neck. First responders transported Lewis, who was in critical condition, to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he passed away Sunday. Police say the student was not the shooter’s intended target, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Authorities have not provided a description of the suspect.

Thursday’s shooting follows the killing of 31-year-old Anat Kimchi, a Jewish University of Maryland doctoral student who was stabbed by a homeless person while visiting the city in June. Kimchi’s assailant, who has been charged with first-degree murder, allegedly attacked two other women over a nine-day span last month.

Both killings come amid a surge in violent crime in Chicago.

The Palestinian Police State

6th July 2021

Read it.

Everyone knows that Gaza remains under the thumb of the genocidal thugs of Hamas. What about the area under the governance of Mahmaoud Abbas on the West Bank?

I met Khaled Abu Toameh in Jerusalem in 2007, when he worked as a reporter for the Jerusalem Post. He must be the bravest journalist I have ever met. For as long as I can remember he has told the truth about the Fatah regime to anyone who would listen, yet for some reason its multifarious supporters in the West don’t give a rip.

Reminder: Islam is an oppressive totalitarian ideology masquerading as a religion with which no co-existence is possible

The Show Goes On

6th July 2021

ZMan turns drama critic.

Politics in a liberal democracy is a drama run by the ruling class. Think of it as a big stage on which politics is acted out for the masses. In America, this means the Left opens the show by demanding action against some threat to “our democracy” or demanding action to defend a victim group. Their fluffers go into the crowd to get the audience excited for the next drama. The actors perform the familiar story, sometimes combining the two into a single story.

At this point, the so-called conservatives waddle onto the stage in their comfort-fit chinos and golf shirts. They dismiss the claims of the Left, either claiming they are exaggerating or that the issue is just not important. The crowd is encouraged to boo and hiss at them, which causes their knees to shake. Before long, some of them break ranks and join the Left in jeering at their old colleagues. The crowd keeps booing and the conservative are eventually run off the stage.

Every once in a while, for reasons science has yet to explain, the conservatives do not start to shiver and quake. They hold their ground. This is when the the spotlight illuminates the right side of the stage and we see the Hitler outfit. Over the sound system comes, “Who in the crowd will perform this vital role?” Sure enough, some idiot from a group fond of weird flags runs up on stage, dons the costume and begins to strut around on stage as the crowd throws rotten vegetables.

JD Vance Regrets Criticizing Trump

6th July 2021

Read it.

“Like a lot of people, I criticized Trump back in 2016,” Vance said. “And I ask folks not to judge me based on what I said in 2016, because I’ve been very open about the fact that I did say those critical things and I regret them, and I regret being wrong about the guy. I think he was a good president, I think he made a lot of good decisions for people, and I think he took a lot of flak.

“And as you probably appreciate I’ve taken a lot of flak myself over the last few years for standing up for the president’s voters, but for all standing up for the agenda.

Pope Francis Moving to Limit Traditional Latin Mass

5th July 2021

Read it.

Pope Francis plans to restrict priests from celebrating the Traditional Latin Mass, according to the Italian website MessainLatino.

In a story about French priests facing expulsion from an archdiocese due to their refusal to concelebrate Mass, National Catholic Register’s Edward Pentin reported Pope Francis aimed to limit the celebration of Mass in the Extraordinary Form, aka the Traditional Latin Mass.

The problem with having one guy at the top making all the decisions is that when he stumbles, everybody falls.

The Vatican ought to read a little history, such as that of the Old Believers in Russia.

An Inconvenient Sleuth

5th July 2021

It would be an understatement to say that the pendulum of public discussion has swung in favour of the so-called lab leak hypothesis of the origin of Covid-19. In the latest poll, a majority of the United States public said they believed SARS-CoV-2 originated in a laboratory. Alongside this, ‘fact-checks’ that claimed the virus couldn’t have originated from a lab were quickly archived, retracted, or substantially reframed, while several press articles were edited months after publication without warning.

Is the Pirate Queen of Scientific Publishing in Real Trouble This Time?

4th July 2021

Read it.

It’s been a rough few months for Sci-Hub, the beloved outlaw repository of scientific papers. In January its Twitter account, which had more than 180,000 followers, was permanently suspended. In response to a lawsuit brought by publishers, new papers aren’t being added to its library. The website is blocked in a dozen countries, including Austria, Britain, and France. There are rumors of an FBI investigation.

And yet Alexandra Elbakyan, the 32-year-old graduate student who founded the site in 2011, seems more or less unfazed. I spoke with her recently via Zoom with the assistance of a Russian translator. Elbakyan, who is originally from Kazakhstan, has a bachelor’s degree in computer science and coded Sci-Hub herself. She lives in Moscow now and is studying philosophy at the Russian Academy of Sciences. Back when she started the site, which offers access to north of 85 million papers, she didn’t expect to be fending off lawsuits and dodging investigations a decade on.

There is no such thing as ‘intellectual property’. The definition of ‘property’, both in law and in fact, is something that when one entity is using it other entities are necessarily excluded from using it, within which definition neither ideas nor information will fit. ‘Intellectual property’ is an artificial construct created an enforced by government, originally with the best of intentions, but which has been leveraged by rent-seekers (e.g. ‘patent trolls’, Disney Corp.) to squeeze money out of people without needing to work for it. (This is what enables corporations to buy up the rights to ideas that would hurt their profits and bury them — not my definition of progress, although it certainly fits that of the bureaucracy.)

The Metaverse: A Brave, New (Virtual) World

3rd July 2021

Read it.

Amongst the changes that “lockdowns” and “new normality” have brought, there is a revalorization of digital interactions as valuable and meaningful. Ironically, what was once regarded as isolationist or a poor substitute for “real life” (an expression used as an interchangeable semantic proxy for “in-person”) experiences, has become the glue that holds the social fabric together.

Connecting in and through digital spaces has been a staple of 2020: from work or formal education moving to online alternatives, to recreational uses of video platforms. In these virtual spaces, human ingenuity has found new testing grounds to deal with the challenges presented by the pandemic. It can be a thoughtful provocation to say that since lockdowns started, we might have been living in a proto-version of the Metaverse.
