How Radical Are the Teachers’ Unions?

3rd July 2021

Read it.

America’s teachers’ unions are the country’s single most malign influence. They do more to promote leftist extremism, and do it more effectively, than anyone else. The teachers’ unions dominate the schools of education, from which most teachers come, and they control school board elections in most districts. In effect, they run the public schools, which is the main reason why the public schools are so bad.

Scott Adams blames the teachers’ unions for whatever systemic racism exists in the U.S.

My Dad was a teacher and in a district where the union was effectively mandatory. I still remember him getting literature from the union and throwing it away with a shout of “G__ d____ communists!”

In some areas, teachers end up joining the union solely because it’s the only way to get liability insurance in case you’re sued by parents. The school districts won’t insure or protect teachers.

Even the union won’t help with that. My wife had a friend who taught (briefly) in the Dallas school district and on one occasion was belted in the back of the head by a student, which resulted in her having headaches for a significant period. Nothing ever happened to the student.
