Have you ever noticed that when a news article talks about college students, they always use a picture from Yale? This particular spot is the plaza over Cross Campus Library (which is underground) looking east toward part of Berkeley College, with the steps up to York Street and Sterling Memorial Library off-stage to the left.

For a very long time, the radical conception of politics was the struggle between the radicals advancing society forward and reactionaries trying to block the way. In this formulation, the radicals push for reform and the reactionaries concoct an argument against it and the resulting struggle advances society forward. The result is imperfect, so the ideal solution from the radical perspective is to eliminate the reactionaries, who stand in the way of the project and the path of human destiny.
Strangely, the modern Right has also embraced this view. This was not always so, but the conservatism that evolved in the 20th century fully embraced its role as the dancing partner of radicalism. Bill Buckley made this clear when he said, “A conservative is someone who stands athwart history, yelling Stop, at a time when no one is inclined to do so, or to have much patience with those who so urge it.” Note also the need do the yelling when others are not inclined to do any yelling.
Looking at Buckley’s legacy, National Review, we discover that the reason they’re yelling STOP is because they want to climb on board. Every time you see an article by an NR-nik labelled ‘The Conservative Case for [stupid proglodyte proposal]’ you see them with the camouflage stripped off.

The Antiplanner points out some inconvenient truth.
A growing body of research shows that mass transit is the major reason why the coronavirus has been so deadly in New York City. The New York urban area (roughly New York City plus Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties in New York plus Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, and Union counties in New Jersey) provides 45 percent of all transit trips in the United States and, not coincidentally, has seen about 45 percent of COVID-19 deaths in the United States.

The malaria-blocking bug, Microsporidia MB, was discovered by studying mosquitoes on the shores of Lake Victoria in Kenya. It lives in the gut and genitals of the insects.
The researchers could not find a single mosquito carrying the Microsporidia that was harbouring the malaria parasite. And lab experiments, published in Nature Communications, confirmed the microbe gave the mosquitoes protection.

Some examples of things I hear all the time:
- I don’t understand why team X isn’t working on feature idea Y. It’s such an obvious thing to do!
- Why is bug Z still present? Hasn’t it been known for a really long time? I don’t understand why they aren’t fixing it?
- I don’t get why HR team still doesn’t offer perk W. So many other companies have that!
- I’ve told my manager that we need a process for thing V but it still hasn’t happened!
Of course, why these things never happened is that something else was more important.

The concept known as “genetic memory” is much less studied and far more controversial than what we know as “regular” memory. Whilst there are a multitude of other examples in animals (see: Gallagher, 2013), according to the decorated psychiatrist and author Dr. Darold Treffert, these mysterious genetic memories may also apply to humans too (Treffert, 2015).

For more than 20 years, researchers have tried with limited success to engineer antibodies into new treatments for bacterial and viral infections. Now, a team of scientists has come up with a new approach: fastening together tiny antibodies from llama blood with a type of bacterial super glue. The interconnected antibodies protect mice from two dangerous viruses, and they could subdue other pathogens.

Faux-conservative cuck Rod Dreher unfurls his true colors.
These thugs have been threatening store employees and owners with violence — for expecting customers to abide by public health guidelines that are no more than an inconvenience, and that lessen the chance that a deadly virus will infect them and/or spread through them.
Idiots. Selfish idiots. They are given the opportunity to ease back into normal life, by shopping, but they’re not going to do the minimum necessary to help the community be safer. So now business owners and other shoppers are going to be more at risk from the virus, because Rights. Man, that ticks me off. Selfish creeps.
If I had Rod Dreher here in front of me I’d be happy to beat the living snot out of him (I’ve met him; I could do it) for being a classic Useful Idiot.

In the fullness of time, future historians will write books on their theories about why liberal democracy came to behave so much like Soviet communism. The hallmark of Bolshevism was its intolerance of dissent. It was willing to sacrifice everything in order to prevent individuals or groups from questioning orthodoxy. This is becoming the defining feature of liberal democracy. In the name of individual rights and dignity, western governments are methodically turning into police states.
The development of an establishment class often called ‘the new clerisy’ composed of government employees, academics, and news media figures (and the cycling of people among those three perches) has led to a uniformity of political opinion that naturally generates a totalitarian approach to publicly-expressed opinion.

Nope. According to at least one county in the US state of Oregon, the biggest issue right now is establishing “safe spaces” where no white people are allowed.

Kevin Williamson shoots some fish in a barrel.
I’ll get into this at more length later, but there’s a problem with Joe Biden’s naming Chris Dodd to run his vice-presidential search beyond the obvious waitress-sandwich stuff.
The Democrats talk a pretty good “diversity” game, but think about what that really looks like in a party where the bosses are rich and white and the voters are less affluent and less white. Joe Biden, an eternal party hack and white-guy visitor from the age of black-and-white television, pledges to name a woman to the VP spot. Okay — which woman? The woman recommended to him by Chris Dodd, eternal party hack and white-guy visitor from the age of black-and-white television.
The obvious conclusion to be drawn from the various contortions now underway by the Democrats and their mouthpieces in the national ‘press’ is that it’s all bunkum; what they say they do not mean, and what they mean is the same old shell game they always play when it comes to electoral politics. The only surprise is that their shenanigans are as successful as they continually prove to be — one would think that their ‘base’ would eventually wise up to the fact that they are being fleeced and refuse to submit to it.

Finally, the evening newscasts of ABC and CBS broke their silence on the rape accusation against Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. While their respective morning newscasts had already covered the topic, Thursday night was the first time NBC News had dared to give it airtime. The contrast was stark in how they covered the accusations of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, where their mission was to sink his nomination. This time, they were walking on eggshells as they gingerly came to Biden’s aid.
