Ice People (Including Bruce Lee) Under the Southern Cross

15th July 2018

John Derbyshire is always worth reading. (See link in upper right corner).

We weren’t designed for these steamy climates. We flourish best in the shady temperate woodlands and windswept grasslands far from the equator. Leave the sun-baked deserts and muggy, buggy rain forests to the Sun People.

Though I live in Texas, my proper environment is New England. I don’t live there for the same reason I don’t live in California: It’s crawling with communists. (I hate communists more than I hate fire ants.)

Kickball for Toffs: Why Do Sports Invented by WASPs Rule the World?

15th July 2018

Steve Sailer jumps on board the soccer wagon.

Games such as soccer, rugby, American football, and Australian rules football started out in England as mob football, a pretty much ruleless contest played in a town’s high street with all the lads from one end of town vying against against all the lads from the other end of town, such as the the Up’ards and the Down’ards of Ashbourne, to move the ball to distant goals, sometimes miles apart. These games were kind of a cross between a modern rugby scrum and a mass migration.

Donald Trump Jr. Ruthlessly Mocks ‘Baby Balloon’ Resistance Members  And rightly so. When I was a kid, protests had Yippies and Black Panthers and the National Guard. Now the best they can do is Pussy Hats and a bad attempt at a Ghostbusters remake. Sad.

Counter-Terrorism: Protected Classes

14th July 2018

Read it.

German politicians are under growing pressure from their constituents to reduce the flow of Moslem migrants and more carefully screen those that are let in. Most elected (and unelected) officials have taken the position that allowing large numbers of Moslem refugees (from civil wars, rebellions and religious conflicts in Moslem majority nations) is the humanitarian thing to do. Their constituents point out that many of the politicians are delusional because these officials do not live near the new arrivals and experience the increasing crime and general hostility expressed by so many of the refugees towards non-Moslems (and often each other). Voters point out that their political leaders tend to live in well protected neighborhoods and have access to taxpayer supplied personal security. To make matters worse there are a growing number of instants were local (or national) officials deliberately conceal the data on criminal activity by Moslem migrants.

Democratic Congressmen Accuse Paul Ryan of Political Stunt for Calling for Vote on Their ‘Abolish ICE’ Bill

13th July 2018

Read it.

Three Democratic congressmen declared on Thursday that they will vote “no” on their own legislation if House Speaker Paul Ryan puts their bill on the floor.

Reps. Mark Pocan of Wisconsin, Pramila Jayapal of Washington and Adriano Espaillat of New York introduced the Establishing a Humane Immigration Enforcement Act earlier Thursday, which would abolish ICE within one year of enactment, and also assemble a commission tasked with setting up a new immigration enforcement agency.

Hours later, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy announced he planned to bring the proposed “Abolish ICE” bill to the floor, reported The Hill.

The three congressmen promptly released a joint statement accusing Ryan of not taking their bill seriously, and as an act of protest, they will vote down their own legislation and instead use the opportunity to discuss Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, President Donald Trump’s zero-tolerance immigration policy and ICE.

Really, you can’t make this stuff up.

Our Homes Don’t Need Formal Spaces

12th July 2018

Read it.

Hear, hear.

Elite houses, from the domus of a Pompeian politician to the Palace of Versailles, from Biltmore to McMansions in subdivisions named Biltmore, have always maintained a separation of formal and informal space. The absence of all that extra space (combined with the standardization and mass production of building materials) is what made detached single-family housing inexpensive and accessible to different classes in the first place. One of the simplest reasons so many clamor for formal spaces is because they are a signifier of wealth and prestige, a sign of having “made it.”

Donald Trump may need formal entertainment rooms. I do not.

How Immigration Officials Cooked the Books and Fooled Congress for Years

12th July 2018

Read it.

From 1996 through 2016, just under half of all aliens who were set free pending a trial date—1.25 million in total—were ordered removed, i.e. deported. Of that number, 952,291 were removed for evading court. Less than a quarter of this same group actually appeared in court. Over the span of more than two decades of court business, nearly two-fifths (37 percent) of those who were let free before their trial ended up fleeing court.

Since 1996, an average of 45,000 migrants each year disappeared, adding to a backlog of unexecuted removal orders that in 2016 numbered 954,000. If predictions are correct, nearly 57,000 people will evade their hearings in 2018 and bring the 23-year failure-to-appear total to 1.05 million—that’s 9.3 percent of the illegal population in the U.S. as measured by a 2017 Pew Research Center study.

It is here that damage to the courts, immigration enforcement, and national security intersect.

Reciprocity Is the Method to Trump’s Madness

Victor Davis Hanson explains it all to you.

Columbo comments:

So … there is a new sheriff in town. He does not walk ‘softly’. He carries a big stick. He isn’t diplomatic. He speaks candidly, which makes many cringe. He’s the stereotype of the “Ugly American” to half the world and it’s best defender to the other half. We are seeing some titanic shifts in the global world order as a result. The objective is more symmetry, a more even playing field and some new “heartland winners and coastal losers”. To me, this shift feels good. This shift feels right. This shift feels long over due. As VDH points out, if the global world order had not been so asymmetrical over these past decades, we probably wouldn’t have had President Donald J. Trump.
