The Other McCain sums up what we know so far.
Here’s the thing: FBI officials didn’t expect Hillary to lose. As we know, text messages between two high-ranking FBI officials discussed an “insurance policy” to prevent Trump from becoming president. Because they expected Hillary to win, they also expected to be able to prevent this taxpayer-funded espionage from becoming public knowledge.
And then Trump won.
Democrat operatives — in the Clinton campaign, in the Obama administration, in the federal bureaucracy, and in the media — panicked at the thought of what the newly-elected president might do (e.g., expose the corruption at the Justice Department) used information from the Steele dossier as a pretext for the Mueller “investigation.” Yet there was never any actual “Russian collusion” to investigate, and the purpose of appointing a special counsel was . . . what? To create a phony “scandal”? To undermine the legitimacy of the new administration? To cover up wrongdoing by the Obama administration and the FBI?

Authorities in Australia revealed that almost 200 athletes and officials who visited for the Commonwealth Games have sought asylum— a sharp increase from numbers at other recent events.
Since the games in the Gold Coast ended last month, there have been various sightings and reports of missing athletes around the country, mostly involving competitors from African countries such as Rwanda, Uganda, Sierra Leone and Cameroon.
Australia issued 13,600 visas to athletes and team officials for the event. Immigration authorities told a parliament committee that 8,103 people arrived on the visas but only 7,848 have since left. Of the 255 who appear to have remained in the country, 205 are on temporary bridging visas after applying for other visas.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been on the Supreme Court since 1993. She is experiencing a period of pop culture notoriety few justices–even Supreme Court justices–ever enjoy, no matter how impactful their work might be. As a feminist icon at home in the politics of the Left, she now graces t-shirts, coffee mugs, and dorm rooms under her catchy moniker: the Notorious RBG. She’s also the subject of a glossy documentary, which I decided to see with a way-more-progressive friend in the week of its release to the big screen.
Movies involving Supreme Court Justices, according to the Narrative, must be about Minorities, specifically Minorities Who Agree With Us.
I despise Ruth Bader Ginsburg for the same reason I despise John McCain: They accomplished great things, and if they had stopped there, they would be worthy of praise; unfortunately, they continued on and leveraged their rightful glory into activities that were damaging to our society and our culture, and that puts them squarely on the side of Evil. Both of them get to wear a Saruman mask for the rest of eternity.
A common meme on Social Media, I’m told, is ‘You can’t spell Truth without Ruth’. Yeah, well, you can’t spell Ruthless without Ruth, either, nor can you spell Bader without Bad. (The problem with memes is that more than one can play that game.)

ZMan reviews the culture.
Way back before the 2016 election really got started, I recall watching National Review’s David French learn on twitter what the word “cuckservative” meant. It was an amusing thing to watch as he went back and forth with some alt-right types. I could tell he was feeling like a cool kid picking up slang from the in-crowd on the playground. Then he realized that the “cuck” they were referring to was him. He then set off blocking half the internet. It was an amusing example of just how isolated these people are from us.
The chattering classes are supposed to be the interface between the Cloud People and the Dirt People. Before the explosion of mass media, the chattering skulls would go on the three Sunday chat shows to tell us what to think, while pretending to tell us what our rulers were thinking. Usually, these people had a column in one of the big city broadsheets or they were a “reporter” in Washington. This worked as the Dirt People had nothing against which to compare it and we never got to see these people outside of their roles.
These are the people I talk about when I talk about the Crust.

The New York Times notices.
Here are some things that you will hear when you sit down to dinner with the vanguard of the Intellectual Dark Web: There are fundamental biological differences between men and women. Free speech is under siege. Identity politics is a toxic ideology that is tearing American society apart. And we’re in a dangerous place if these ideas are considered “dark.”
I was meeting with Sam Harris, a neuroscientist; Eric Weinstein, a mathematician and managing director of Thiel Capital; the commentator and comedian Dave Rubin; and their spouses in a Los Angeles restaurant to talk about how they were turned into heretics. A decade ago, they argued, when Donald Trump was still hosting “The Apprentice,” none of these observations would have been considered taboo.
Today, people like them who dare venture into this “There Be Dragons” territory on the intellectual map have met with outrage and derision — even, or perhaps especially, from people who pride themselves on openness.

One of the perennial errors that sky-is-falling alarmists almost always stumble into is thinking that the way things are right now will not change as time moves forward. Like the ‘climate change’ people, last century’s Malthusians (such as, famously, Paul Erlich) didn’t realize that as industrialization spread having children (outside of the Underclass) would change from being an asset to being a luxury. Mostly, what we have learned from history about ‘if this goes on…’ scenarios is that it won’t.

The inspiration for the Burger King plan, a CMCBD official commented, came from the London Underground. In 2005, the metro system started playing orchestral soundtracks in 65 tube stations as part of a scheme to deter “anti-social” behavior, after the surprising success of a 2003 pilot program. The pilot’s remarkable results — seeing train robberies fall 33 percent, verbal assaults on staff drop 25 percent, and vandalism decrease 37 percent after just 18 months of classical music — caught the eye of the global law-enforcement community. Thus, an international phenomenon was born. Since then, weaponized classical music has spread throughout England and the world: police units across the planet now deploy the string quartet as the latest addition to their crime-fighting arsenal, recruiting Officer Johann Sebastian as the newest member of the force.
Experts trace the practice’s origins back to a drowsy 7-Eleven in British Columbia in 1985, where some clever Canadian manager played Mozart outside the store to repel parking-lot loiterers. Mozart-in-the-Parking-Lot was so successful at discouraging teenage reprobates that 7-Eleven implemented the program at over 150 stores, becoming the first company to battle vandalism with the viola. Then the idea spread to West Palm Beach, Florida, where in 2001 the police confronted a drug-ridden street corner by installing a loudspeaker booming Beethoven and Mozart. “The officers were amazed when at 10 o’clock at night there was not a soul on the corner,” remarked Detective Dena Kimberlin. Soon other police departments “started calling.” From that point, the tactic — now codified as an official maneuver in the Polite Policeman’s Handbook — exploded in popularity for both private companies and public institutions. Over the last decade, symphonic security has swept across the globe as a standard procedure from Australia to Alaska

The Social Security Administration improperly disbursed an estimated $571 million in disability benefits to people who had already returned to work, according to a government audit report.
Of the half a billion estimated overpayments, nearly $201 million of the improperly disbursed benefits checks were due to the administration’s slow processing, and the almost $371 million was the fault of the beneficiaries who didn’t complete paperwork on time, the Office of the Inspector General (IG) wrote in a report released Tuesday.
This is why you don’t want the government in charge of our health care. Whenever you read an article in the Proglodyte Press about how broken our health care system is, if you read it you find out that the reason it’s broken is because the government is so heavily involved. Whenever you read an article in the Proglodyte Press about how expensive drugs are in the U.S. compared to some cherry-picked overseas nation, they never mention the fact that it’s primarily due to the barriers the FDA puts in the way of medical research, barriers that can only be climbed by traversing a mountain of cash, which cash has to be recovered somehow in order to remain in business.

Charles C.W. Cooke cuts through the spittle spray from the DemLegHump media.
What do we know about the guns? Well, while all the eyewitnesses thus far seem to have mentioned only a shotgun, Governor Abbott has announced that he also had a revolver. Unless he was given permission to acquire these weapons from his parents, at least someone has broken the law here. Federal law prohibits the commercial transfer of a handgun to anyone under 21, and the private transfer of a handgun to anyone under 18. Because the shooter was 17, he was federally ineligible to be gifted, sold, or leased such a weapon, other than on a temporary basis for “legal sporting purpose.” Long guns are a different story federally—there is no federal law prohibiting the private transfer of a long gun to a minor—but more complicated at the state level. While there is no minimum age to possess firearms in Texas, it remains illegal in the state for to sell, lease, rent, or give a firearm to a person under 18 years of age without a parent’s permission. Again, the shooter was 17. Bottom line: Unless his parents agreed to let him have the guns, someone broke the law. That may seem a little obvious given that he concealed-carried a handgun (illegal at his age), took weapons into a school (illegal under federal law), and then committed murder (illegal). But it’s helpful to know what is and what is not allowed when debating what to do in response.
…
It will be interesting to see what gun-control measures are proposed in response to this incident. Shotguns are almost never included in the lists of weapons that the gun-control movement hopes to prohibit — except, obviously, by those who covet a full ban on the private ownership of firearms — and, because they hold only six rounds and do not take magazines, .38 caliber revolvers fall well within the limits that even heavily regulated states such as California have seen fit to impose. Indeed, shotguns and revolvers tend to be held up as the “reasonable” guns that “nobody wants to ban.” Famously, Joe Biden told Americans who want to protect themselves to eschew modern sporting rifles and instead “buy a shotgun.” Likewise, I am asked constantly why I’d need a semi-automatic pistol for home-defense when I could buy a six-shooter instead. Whether this will be reflected in the coverage remains to be seen. If I were a betting man, I’d predict that it will not.

ZMan celebrates diversity.
There is a phenomenon, that most white people in vibrant areas intuitively understand, but people rarely discuss. That is as vibrancy increases, black-on-white crime escalates. The legendary quantitative blogger La Griffe du Lion showed that the risk whites faces from whites, in terms of crime, is independent of neighborhood size and racial composition. The probability a white is attacked by another white in a given year is the same no matter where he lives. This is true when adjusted for socioeconomic factors, as well.
On the other hand, as the number of blacks increase, the odds of a white being victimized by a black accelerate upward. The reasons are well known now. Blacks are more than three times more likely to commit violent crime than whites and black on white crime is vastly more common that any other inter-racial crime. It turns out that what everyone knows is true. Blacks prefer to target whites when committing crime, especially violent crimes. So as vibrancy increases, white victimization rates accelerate upward.
