Democratic Gov. Kate Brown of Oregon Might Sell State Assets to Highest Bidder

18th May 2017

Read it.

Oregon is currently struggling with a $22 billion pension deficit. This is a problem that has been growing for years, and just last month, Gov. Kate Brown announced a plan to sell $5 billion worth of public assets to aid the fight against the state’s deficit.

According to Brown, everything could be sold, for the right price, except for state forests, parks and prisons.

In this week’s exciting episode, Democrats learn the facts of life, that the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.

“Charles Murray is once again peddling junk science about race and IQ”

18th May 2017

Read it.

Let’s see, who is more likely to be peddling ‘junk science’, a distinguished academic who publishes the research on which his conclusion are based, or writers for a partisan web site who depend on ‘fairly wide consensus among behavioral scientists’?

As with any such issue, the proper response is SHOW YOUR WORK. We can see Murray’s — he put it in a book, which has been out (and subject to checking) for decades. ‘Consensus’ isn’t evidence, it’s just opinion. SHOW YOUR WORK. Give us the data on which you base your opinions. Point out exactly where Murray’s data are wrong. Don’t just wave your hands about how All Right-Thinking People Agree And So That Answers The Question. SHOW YOUR WORK. This is science, after all. (Or is it…?)

For the lazy, Steve Sailer fisks this hatchet-job here.

Wealthy Socialist Bernie Sanders AGAIN Fails to File Senate Ethics Financial Disclosures on Time

18th May 2017

Read it.

The U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics requires all 100 U.S. senators to file detailed financial disclosures generally cataloging what they own and what they owe each year. Senators must also itemize all the gifts and free trips they have received from private sources.

Sanders, who emphasized government transparency during his 2016 presidential campaign, also completely blew off Senate Ethics Committee financial documentation filing deadlines in 2012, 2014 and 2015.

Damn, those rich white people are just a bunch of scumbags.

Once the revolution comes, they’ll all go to the wall, believe it.

Jury Clears Tulsa Cop In Fatal Shooting, Protests Erupt

18th May 2017

Read it.

A jury acquitted a white Tulsa police officer of manslaughter charges Wednesday night in her 2016 fatal shooting of a black man.

The twelve jurors, nine white people and three black people, declared that Officer Betty Shelby was not guilty of first degree manslaughter charges in shooting Terence Crutcher, reports CNN.

I guess the three black people were actually white people in a Clever Plastic Disguise. Or maybe they were doing a reverse Rachel Dolezal and ‘identifying’ as white. Because we all know that when a black guy is shot he Has To Be an innocent victim of pervasive white privilege, so we Must Look Elsewhere for the Real Story.

Some protesters also gathered outside Shelby’s hotel, chanting “Bring her out!” “Bring her out!”

Again, these must be white people disguised as black people, since Everybody Knows that Only White People Form Lynch Mobs.

Alt-Left Insanity: Sports Site Wonders Which NBA Playoff Team Is Most Left-Wing

18th May 2017

Read it.

I’ve been getting a lot of “notoriety” for commenting about the extreme left and how it’s seized control from average, everyday nutty libs. Typically, this arrives in the form of hate mail.

Most times when you mock the left, paid liberal trolls attack you on Twitter. If your barbs hit close to home, then the number of places the alt-left attacks you increases. My recent record is five. My original piece on the alt-left for Foxnews.com generated hate messages in: email, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. I even got angry phone calls.

My latest Fox piece detailed the scarily violent trend among liberals who now have lost their ever-loving minds. I explained how, “the liberal cold war against the right has escalated from demonization to intimidation, harassment and violence — with Trump administration officials and members of Congress as prime targets.”

Yet again, Democrats bring the hate. Yet Trump is the New Hitler.

Who Wins and Who Loses Under These 8 Big Government Policies

17th May 2017

Read it.

It’s clear that many big government policies are creating winners and losers in America.

The story has been the same for decades. Government makes friends with a company or an industry, blocks out the competition with regulation, and in some cases gives the company subsidies.

Such cronyism is bad for innovators and for consumers. But fewer people realize that it’s also bad for the poor.

Who wins: Special interests (i.e. not you)

Who loses: You and me.

Prof to White Male Employees: ‘Please Quit’

17th May 2017

Read it.

A professor wants universities to “stop hiring white cis men,” according to her May blog post uncovered by Campus Reform Wednesday.

“If you are a cis white man (meaning you identify as male and you were assigned male at birth) you almost certainly should resign from your position of power,” wrote Piper Harron, a temporary assistant professor at University of Hawaii at Manoa.

“That’s right, please quit. Too difficult? Well, as a first step, at least get off your hiring committee, your curriculum committee, and make sure you’re replaced by a woman of color or trans person. Don’t have any in your department?  HOW SHOCKING.”

Racism from the Left, strait up. And yet Trump is the New Hitler.

Move Over, San Francisco: Dallas Tops Our List of the Best Cities for Jobs 2017

17th May 2017

Read it.

It’s a region that in many ways is the polar opposite of the San Francisco and San Jose metropolitan areas, which have dominated our ranking for the last few years. (They still place second and eighth this year, respectively, among the largest 70 metropolitan areas, though San Jose is down sharply from second place last year.)

Unlike the tech-driven Bay Area, Dallas’ economy has multiple points of strength, including aerospace and defense, insurance, financial services, life sciences, data processing and transportation. Employment in the metro area has expanded 20.3% over the past five years and 4.2% last year, with robust job creation in professional and business services, as well as in a host of lower-paid sectors like retail, wholesale trade and hospitality.

According to Southern Methodist University’s Klaus Desmet and Collin Clark, Dallas’s success stems in part from the fact that it isn’t looking to appeal to the elite “creative class,” but to middle-class workers and the companies and executives who employ them. Dallas attracts both foreign and domestic migrants, particularly from places like California, where housing is, on an income-adjusted basis, often three times as expensive. This has had much to do with the relocation to the area of such companies as Jacobs Engineering, Toyota, Liberty Mutual and State Farm.

Suck on it, Left Coast.

Stop Fiddling With Your Goddamn Phone

And why is it called a smartphone? It’s not smart, it’s a computer. It’s dumb. It requires a smart person to operate it. It’s probably called a smartphone to disguise the fact that it’s likely to be operated by a dummy, thereby making it more marketable to consumers in need of remedial IQ points.

When Steve Jobs arrived at the gates of heaven, Gabriel was not there to greet him, there were no trumpets, and the gates remained closed all day, because the archangels were fiddling with their phones.

New York’s Single-Payer Health Care Plan Would Be More Expensive Than New York’s Entire State Government

17th May 2017

Read it.

And you know that New York State doesn’t do government on the cheap. Lot of pigs at that trough.

The single-payer health care plan that cleared the lower chamber of New York’s state legislature on Tuesday would require massive tax increases to double—or possibly even quadruple—the state’s current annual revenue levels.

The state Assembly voted 87-38 on Tuesday night to pass the New York Health Plan, which would abolish private insurance plans in the state and provide all New Yorkers (except those enrolled in Medicaid and Medicare) with health insurance through the state government. The same proposal cleared the state Assembly in 2015 and 2016, but never received a vote from the state Senate.

Californians Now Regretting Gas Tax Hike

16th May 2017

Read it.

I think they ought to be obliged to live with it for the next ten years.

“Jerry Brown’s decision to push through the largest gas tax increase in California’s history without the approval of voters demonstrated a complete disregard for ordinary Californians,” Allen said.

Welcome to the wonderful world of a Blue State.

“This ballot initiative will correct Brown’s failure and allow the people of California to decide for themselves if they want to raise their taxes.” The measure needs 365,880 signatures to go on the 2018 ballot.

Good luck finding that many sane people in California.

Mizzou Hemorrhages More Students and Cuts Jobs Because of Black Lives Matter Protests

16th May 2017

Read it.

Officials at the University of Missouri’s flagship campus in Columbia have announced a plan to cut approximately 400 jobs and raise tuition in the face of a projected 7.4 percent plunge in student enrollment and a $14.7 million state budget cut.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 employees will simply lose their jobs at the taxpayer-funded school. The rest of the job cuts will come either because people are retiring or because the school won’t renew the contracts of non-tenured professors, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

It’s very simple — nobody wants to spend money for the opportunity to get run over by a crowd of rampaging NAMs at a University that nobody cares about. They’ll put up with that shit to get an Ivy League degree, but cheap-ass government schools aren’t worth it.

Trump, Our First MBO Presidency

16th May 2017

Read it.

I’ve worked closely with a few powerful CEOs in my life. Most were like Donald, energetic, fun to be around, and quite willing to believe and say just about anything with obvious conviction to make a serious point or promote their venture. I was there to encourage them to paint their pictures within the lines; that is to not get too far ahead or away from reality. More than once, during an analyst meeting or in a meeting with investors, I had to interject, carefully, to pull some of the hotter hyperbole, back to earth.

Donald Trump has no appreciation for this kind of retail politics. He’s a business guy, through and through, our first management by objectives CEO, the MBO President. What does he want? Control over our borders. It’s part of his job description and he’s determined to achieve it. And he wants the world to take our leadership seriously. He wants to reverse the diminution of our military. He wants fair trade deals. He wants a simplified tax code with lower rates. He wants elections unblemished by voter fraud. He wants our multinationals to repatriate their profits from overseas. He wants free, open and vibrant health insurance and health care markets. He wants a judiciary that considers constitutional intent, not precedent, first when judging our laws. That’s about it.

Basic Income Is a Dead End

15th May 2017

Read it.

The most common reason cited for this conclusion is, of course, financing: though its costs have not been quantified, it is certain that they would be high. Just how income and wealth should be taxed to pay for it remains an open question. Radically transforming the social system to create a basic income would be the greatest financial gamble in recent history.

But the financial aspect is not even the most important argument against a basic income. Basic income is a seductive poison. It would benefit the margins of society at the expense of the middle class. For the poor and long-term unemployed, basic income would remove the pressure to find work and the unpleasant task of actively look for employment. It most likely would not cost the rich any more than before, and would help ease their conscience. Growing inequality would no longer be a social scandal, since everyone would have an income, albeit close to the poverty line. It is precisely for this reason that there are three main arguments against an unconditional basic income.

Blame the Victims

15th May 2017

Steve Sailer fisks the New York Times.

Ta-Nehisi Coates refers to the white exodus as a “triumph of racist social engineering,” and he is not wrong. Many white households moved to suburban towns precisely because black households were effectively excluded from them by real estate agents and mortgage brokers.

In the case of my liberal inlaws on the West Side of Chicago in 1968-1970, the culprits who ruined their dream of integration and finally drove them out were the black criminals who committed three felonies against their children.

To complicate the picture, few of them left personal accounts,

Uh, actually, lots and lots of the victims of black crime would love to tell you exactly what happened, but academia and the media haven’t been interested in hearing them.

and they may not have been able to articulate exactly why they moved. We are left reconstructing the pieces through careful detective work. In my own work, I have found that Poirot is often right: Each suspect wielded his own knife.

Of course, the word “crime” doesn’t appear in this op-ed.

“There is now a possibility of finding anti-ageing treatments which can be tailored to differently aged and differently pigmented skin, and with the additional possibility to address the ageing process elsewhere in our bodies.”

The Rise of Cronyism

14th May 2017

Read it.

I object to the term ‘crony capitalism’ because cronyism has no structural connection to ‘capitalism’ (which is really just a shame-work that Marx invented to have a stick with which to beat free markets); if it did, then there wouldn’t be any cronyism under socialism, when real-world experience show that cronyism is even worse under socialism than under its alternatives.

Still, this is a good exposition of the fact that whenever government sticks its paws into economics it attracts cronyism as rotten food attracts maggots. This is why ‘rich’ people are so comfy with politicians who spend most of their time bashing ‘the rich’ — rich people know (a) they don’t really mean it, and (b) they know that whenever politicians actually do something that is anti-rich they soon get their asses handed to them.

The Robots, AI, and Unemployment Anti-FAQ

14th May 2017

An interesting point of view.

The problem with automation that might take it out of the general trend over recent centuries is that, unlike semi-skilled agricultural work being replaced by simi-skilled industrial work. semi-skilled industrial and service jobs are being eliminated but the newly-created jobs are highly-skilled service jobs that more often than not incorporate an education credential that the newly-unemployed don’t have and arguably won’t be able to get.

I love free markets as much as any man whomsoever, and I certainly hope that we survive this process as we have survived similar processes in the past, but I don’t see how we get from Point A to Point B.
