Identity Politics Chickens Come Home to Roost

8th February 2017

For decades the Looney Left and their agents the Democrat party and the DemLegHumpMedia have been telling the world that white people are racist just because they are white people (they can’t help it, and often don’t even know it) and that men are rapists just because they are men (they can’t help it, and often don’t even know it), white people and men have gotten the message and are now acting on it.

‘If I’m going to be insulted because I’m white and/or male, which I can’t change, then I’m going to feel free to be as much of a jerk to colored people or women as I please, because there is no downside; what happens to me is independent of my behavior, so I might as well indulge myself.’

And the Looney Left is shocked and amazed, much as the Tsarist nobility were shocked and amazed when the peasants, who had been told that they were revolting, actually revolted.

My, what a surprise. Aren’t you surprised? I’m sure surprised.

The Racist Roots of Minimum Wage Laws

8th February 2017

Walter Williams, a Real Economist, points the finger.

Our nation’s first minimum wage law, the Davis-Bacon Act of 1931, had racist motivation.

During its legislative debate, its congressional supporters made such statements as, “That contractor has cheap colored labor that he transports, and he puts them in cabins, and it is labor of that sort that is in competition with white labor throughout the country.”

During hearings, American Federation of Labor President William Green complained, “Colored labor is being sought to demoralize wage rates.”

Today’s stated intentions behind the support of minimum wages are nothing like yesteryear’s. However, intentions are irrelevant. In the name of decency, we must examine the effects.

Gravy Train Flows Wide and Deep at Elizabeth Warren’s Consumer Agency

7th February 2017

Read it.

Pay is flowing so generously at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) that bureaucrats receive more than most members of Congress.

The Senate majority and minority leaders are paid $193,000 annually. Two hundred and one CFPB employees outdo Sens. Mitch McConnell and Charles Schumer in pay.

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan of Wisconsin receives $223,000 per year, but that’s less than what 54 CFPB employees are paid.

Another 170 CFPB employees earn more than the secretaries of defense and state, the attorney general and the director of national intelligence. All cabinet salaries are capped at $199,700, but not at the bureau. Thirty-nine CFPB employees earn more than the $230,000 paid to Vice President Mike Pence.

My, what a surprise. Aren’t you surprised? I’m sure surprised.

I suspect that he will probably be better off.

People Stop Trying to Save Money on Groceries When They Use Food Stamps

7th February 2017

Read it.

Families receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, also called food stamps, are less likely to save money by buying generic brands or using coupons if they are buying food with government benefits, researchers at Brown University claim in a study published Monday.

The study upends the idea that food stamps recipients use the taxpayer-funded benefits just like they would use cash, and instead show that people’s food choices change when using food stamps.

Our friend Katherine Kersten is senior fellow at the Center of the American Experiment, Minnesota’s conservative think tank, at which John Hinderaker serves as president. Kathy is an indefatigable analyst and advocate who has effectively promoted good public policy and opposed bad public policy while breaking major stories illustrating the way we live now.

Most recently, Kathy has turned her attention to the destruction of student discipline in the St. Paul public schools. This destruction has been wrought in the name of “racial equity.” In telling this story, Kathy offers a dystopian case study demonstrating the destructive ideological fevers that power the left generally and the Obama administration in particular.

Governance

6th February 2017

Read it.

While I long ago ceased to be surprised by people’s naiveté about the motives and abilities of government officials – such naiveté, after all, is the norm, even among many of those who outwardly profess to be suspicious of the motives and abilities of government officials – I will never understand such naiveté.  The notion of empowering strangers to run your life, even if those strangers promise to improve your lot in life with resources and freedoms seized from other people who allegedly deserve to have their resources and freedoms seized, has always struck me as about the dumbest notion that any human being can embrace.

Not a Democrat, then.

Not Everyone in Tech Cheers Visa Program for Foreign Workers

6th February 2017

Read it.

Reported by the New York Times, a Voice of the Crust, so you know it has to be true.

More than any other industry, tech companies depend on the 85,000 foreign workers allowed into the United States annually under the H-1B visa program. The H-1B is a temporary visa intended to bring in foreign professionals with college degrees and specialized skills to fill jobs when qualified Americans cannot be found. Technology giants like Microsoft and Google have pressed for increases in the annual quotas, saying there are not enough Americans with the skills they need.

But for tech workers like Mr. Tan, the program has had very negative consequences.

“I thought the purpose of H-1B visas was to give America a competitive edge, not help companies ship American jobs abroad,” said Mr. Tan, who had worked for the university as an information technology systems administrator for 20 years. “This is now standard practice in the technology industry.”

Here a Nazi, There a Nazi, Everywhere a Nazi-Nazi!

6th February 2017

Jim Goad is Everyman.

I guess calling everyone a “racist” doesn’t work anymore. If it did, Trump would have lost.

As a result, we are all Nazis now.

There is a peculiar sadism at the very root of the leftist mindset, one made all the more foul because it’s buried underneath a fraudulent veneer of compassion and tolerance. There has been next to zero violence coming from the right, but leftists are justifying all their mob violence by saying Nazis want to exterminate everyone, so they’re just preemptively preventing another genocide. That’s a transparently false excuse, and they’d be hard-pressed to point to a single person they’ve attacked who advocates violence, but I realized only a few years ago that truth and facts simply do not matter to these cultists. But when it comes to violence, they should be very careful what they ask for.

The mother is recording, and wondering if she should call the police, but the father would prefer to depart and leave the frolicking youngsters to whatever their fate might be.

NOAA Scientists Manipulated Temperature Data To Make Global Warming Seem Worse

5th February 2017

Read it.

Dr. John Bates, the former principal scientist at the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C., told the Daily Mail NOAA’s 2015 study was meant “to discredit the notion of a global warming hiatus and rush to time the publication of the paper to influence national and international deliberations on climate policy.”

Bates said NOAA scientists made a “blatant attempt to intensify the impact” of global warming to eliminate the “pause” in temperature rise since 1998. The Daily Mail claims Bates showed it “irrefutable” evidence NOAA’s study relied on “unverified” data.

But you knew that.

Hispanic Civil Rights Group Sues Wells Fargo To Force College Loans For Illegal Immigrants

4th February 2017

Read it.

A Hispanic civil rights group and a student at a taxpayer-funded university in California are suing Wells Fargo & Company in federal court in San Francisco because, the lawsuit claims, the banking giant is illegally refusing to provide student loans to immigrant students who entered the United States as minors and have deferments which block deportation.

The suit alleges that Wells Fargo’s refusal to provide student loans to illegal immigrant students is a violation of federal civil rights law as well as California civil rights law and the state’s unfair business practices law.

If this goes through, watch banks bail from making college loans in California.

Smooth move.

Congress Takes Steps to Renew Farm Bill Boondoggle

4th February 2017

Read it.

Perhaps wary of the fact that it took years to pass the most recent Farm Bill in 2014, Congress has already moved to begin deliberations over the next five-year bill, which would likely become law in 2018. The U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee will hold its first hearing on the upcoming Farm Bill in Kansas later this month.

The Farm Bill is perhaps best known for handing billions of dollars of taxpayer money to a small number of the shrinking percentage of Americans who farm. Pres. Franklin Roosevelt’s agriculture Henry Wallace pitched payments to farmers during the Great Depression as “a temporary solution to deal with an emergency.” The emergency—the Depression—ended around the same year that my grandparents went to prom. But the subsidies remain. In fact, they’ve only mushroomed in the decades since their adoption.

Brookings: “Race Gaps in SAT Math Scores Are as Big as Ever”

4th February 2017

Read it.

I’ve been following test scores for 45 years now the way other guys follow baseball statistics. But it’s kind of boring because nothing much changes, other than the ever-growing Asian dominance at the high end.

Gee, maybe there’s some genetic component to that.

Some of this is driven by programs to get more kids to take the SAT in the hopes of finding a few overlooked high scorers, but of course giving out free tests to poor kids mostly just expands the number of lower to middling scorers.

I guess there aren’t as many unrecognized geniuses wandering around in the ge-hetto as Cornell West thinks. What a disappointment.

Maybe that’s why it’s Black Lives Matter rather than Black Lives Count.

Prof Screams at the NYPD Because They Didn’t Beat Up ‘Nazi’ Gavin McInnes

3rd February 2017

Read it.

Well, you know, professors are pretty highly strung.

McInnes was there to give a talk to students, but was incessantly interrupted by hecklers. Afterward, masked black bloc protesters assaulted the controversial former Fox News personality and sprayed him with mace. Eleven people were eventually arrested.

“I saw Gavin McInnes and I wanted to punch him in the fucking face, but he got away,” said one protester.

And yet Trump is the New Hitler. Go figure.

“You are fucking assholes!” the professor shouted at the New York Police Department (NYPD). “You’re protecting the Nazis!”

Oddly enough, it wasn’t McInnes who was beating people up, but the professor’s friends. I think that word doesn’t mean what you think it means.

“These are kids who are trying to learn about humanity!” she said. “They’re trying to learn about human rights and against racism and xenophobia, and LGBTQ rights, and you’re letting these fucking neo-nazis near here! It’s not up to these students to kick the ass of a neo-nazi! They don’t have to raise their fist! They were taught to be peaceful! Fuck you!”

I think she may not have a very good grasp on the meaning of ‘peaceful’, either.

I guess it doesn’t take much to be a professor nowadays.

It’s all about the Narrative, Larry.

Gerald Hankerson, president of the Alaska, Oregon and Washington State regional NAACP, told TheDCNF he wasn’t “authorizing” the disclosure because it “strikes a blow to the NAACP by indicating that we allow criminals at the leadership.”

Berkeley Kristallnacht

3rd February 2017

The New York Times sums it up.

Fires burned in the cradle of free speech. Furious at a lecture organized on campus, demonstrators wearing ninja-like outfits smashed windows, threw rocks at the police and stormed a building. The speech? The university called it off.

More than 100 faculty members signed a letter opposing the visit by Mr. Yiannopoulos in recent weeks. “We support robust debate, but we cannot abide by harassment, slander, defamation, and hate speech,” they wrote.

So instead they support harassment, slander, defamation, and hate speech. Smooth move, guys.

The Left Does “Groundhog Day”

2nd February 2017

Events in Washington and on the left coast display a political analogue. Listening to Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi recycle canards of the 1980’s, well, it’s tiresome. Their creative juices are not flowing. At some time before the onset of the digital era, the record needle got stuck in their groove.

Watching the leftist thugs doing their thing to shut down Milo Yianoppoulos at Berkeley yesterday, we are struck by the repetition.
