Afterwards, as soon as his caftan is covering his ankles again, he intones Talaq! Talaq! Talaq!, and the divorce is finalized.

Shi’ites in Sweden were recently discovered to be engaging extensively in such temporary marriages, and the Swedish authorities were shocked — shocked! — to learn that such an egregious exploitative practice was occurring in their beloved Folkhemmet.

A controversial Islamic conference set to be held in the southeastern French town of Grenoble has been called off under the orders of municipal authorities, citing extremist links of planned speakers. As The European Conservative previously reported, the event was originally planned near the city of Avignon in November of last year before being cancelled due to security concerns and a public outcry around the Islamist links of organisers and statements by the two scheduled speakers.

Grenoble’s Mayor Renzo Sulli issued the decree to ban the gathering Saturday, describing both the speakers and organisers as having established links to both Salafist movements and the Muslim Brotherhood. In addition, the mayor voiced concerns over the risk of violence and substantial risk to public order. The event was set to occur at an undisclosed location to be revealed only on the day due to fear of violence or cancellation.

The originally planned conference drew negative attention due to the logo of the recently proscribed Salafist organisation Barakacity being featured on posters advertising the event.

Following last week’s terrorist attack which saw an Algerian man attack churchgoing Catholics—including a priest and a sacristan—with a machete as he shouted “Allahu akbar,” Santiago Abascal, the leader of Spain’s national-conservative VOX party, has stated plainly that Islamism is not compatible with the West.

In statements given to the Madrid-based newspaper La Gaceta de la Iberosfera days ago, Abascal offered his condolences to the relatives and close friends of Diego Valencia, the local sacristan who lost his life during the terrorist attack in Algeciras, and asserted that VOX will not tolerate being lectured that Spaniards must “get used to these kinds of atrocities” taking place on their soil.

“My condolences to the family and friends of the victim. Some open the doors for them, others finance them, and people suffer from them. We cannot tolerate Islamism advancing on our soil,” the VOX chief wrote on social media.

Others, including Shiraz Maher, director of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalization, warn that ISIS may well see a resurgence in the next year, with the possibility that thousands of foreign fighters now in Syrian detention camps could escape – creating what he called the “single greatest security threat to the West.”

Following the spiral of violence witnessed since Christmas which so far has seen some 20 shootings and explosive detonations across Sweden—mainly in the Stockholm area—that have resulted in at least two people losing their lives, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) called this past weekend’s wave of violence as “among the worst” to hit the country in a “very long time.”

While speaking to the Swedish state-run broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT) on Monday, January 24th, the center-Right prime minister, who only assumed high office several months ago, did not mince his words, referring to those responsible for the violence, namely gang-related groups, “the domestic terrorists of our time.”

A report from the Stockholm-based newspaper Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) stated that since Friday evening, alone, “there has been a detonation in a stairwell, three shootings at homes, and a murder of a 40-year-old man in Solna.”

On Saturday anti-Turkey demonstrations in the Swedish capital included an incident where a copy of the Quran was burned in front of the Turkish embassy. The Quran-burning has enraged Turkish officials, especially coming off of another protest less than two weeks ago wherein a Kurdish group hanged an effigy of President Erdogan and tweeted out images.

They can dish it out, but they can’t take it.

A Syrian asylum seeker was arrested in the Netherlands on Tuesday on suspicion of acting as one of the Islamic State’s top security chiefs during the terror cell’s infamous rise to power in the Middle East.

The 37-year-old man was arrested in the village of Arkel, approximately 40 kilometers east of Rotterdam, where he had resided since entering the Netherlands and claiming asylum back in 2019.

The suspect is believed to have been in a senior position in the security services of both the Islamic State and, prior to this, Jabhat al-Nusra, another proscribed Salafist jihadist terror group, according to the Dutch Public Prosecution Service (OM).

Sweden and Finland must deport or extradite up to 130 “terrorists” to Turkey before the Turkish parliament will approve their bids to join NATO, President Tayyip Erdogan said.
The two Nordic states applied last year to join NATO following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine but their bids must be approved by all 30 NATO member states. Turkey and Hungary have yet to endorse the applications.
Turkey has said Sweden in particular must first take a clearer stance against what it sees as terrorists, mainly Kurdish militants and a group it blames for a 2016 coup attempt.

A court has ordered a military-aged Moroccan man who illegally entered Spanish territory by boat and who is accused of having raped and beaten a 60-year-old woman to remain in prison while he awaits trial, sources from the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands say. He faces charges of sexual assault, robbery with violence, and injuries and threats.

The Moroccan man, aged 25, was arrested by agents from Spain’s National Police last Wednesday, January 4th, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife—a city on the island of Tenerife, in Spain’s Canary Islands—a mere five days after he had arrived on the Spanish islands, La Gaceta de la Iberosfera reports.

In the old days he would have been strung up from a nearby lamp-post and that would have been the end of it.

A huge suicide bomb ripped through a busy street outside of Afghanistan’s foreign ministry building in the capital of Kabul on Wednesday, killing at least 5 people, according to an initial government assessment. Al Jazeera suggested possibly 20 or more killed, based on statements from the scene.

It’s the second major terror attack in a matter of weeks. The Taliban’s information ministry described that the bomber attempted to enter the foreign ministry at a moment a Chinese delegation was meeting with Taliban officials there.

A series of cartoons depicting Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were published recently in the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

They include a turbaned cleric reaching for a hangman’s noose as he drowns in blood and Khamenei clinging to a giant throne above the raised fists of protesters. Other images depict more vulgar and sexually explicit scenes.

“The insulting and indecent act of a French publication in publishing cartoons against religious and political authority will not go without an effective and firm response,” Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian wrote on Twitter.

Only days after a 65-year-old French pensioner was beaten to death in his apartment in a Paris suburb, allegedly by an illegal migrant from Algerian, another elderly man, this time aged 88, has died from injuries he sustained while being brutally attacked by two brothers—Mohamed K. and Hichem K.—in the basement of an apartment building in Bezons, a Paris suburb.

The brutal attack, which resulted in the 88-year-old victim suffering multiple severe traumas to his head, along with a broken jaw and injuries to his leg, took place on the night of Monday, December 5th, allegedly carried out by the two brothers, both of whom had criminal records involving drug trafficking and violence, the Paris-based news magazine Valeurs Actuelles reports.

Iran was ousted from a United Nations women’s group on Wednesday for policies contrary to the rights of women and girls, a move proposed by the United States after Tehran’s crackdown on protests over the death of a young woman in custody.

The 54-member U.N. Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) adopted a U.S.-drafted resolution to “remove with immediate effect the Islamic Republic of Iran from the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) for the remainder of its 2022-2026 term.”

A district court in Vienna has convicted three adult males from Afghanistan of having raped and murdered a 13-year-old girl from Bavaria named Leonie, bringing an end to a case that brought immense grief and rage to the hearts of many far beyond Austria.

While the primary defendant, 24-year-old Zubaidullah R., was found guilty of rape and murder and sentenced to life in prison, the two co-defendants, 20-year-old Ali H. and 19-year-old Ibraulhaq A., were found guilty of murder by omission for failing to call emergency services after Leonie overdosed on the drugs that had been administered to her. The two were sentenced to 19 and 20 years, respectively, the Vienna-based newspaper Der Standard reports.

According to the indictment, the young girl, who was at the house of one of the suspects one night in June 2021, was given a drink with at least six ecstasy pills, causing her to overdose. While Leonie was incapacitated—and dying from an overdose—the three men raped her and filmed her agony. When it was clear that she had passed away, the perpetrators dumped her body on a grass verge on the side of a road in a residential area of Vienna. She was found with bruises around her neck, wearing only her underwear, and leaning against a tree.

Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas indicated the Palestinian Authority may turn to terrorism, saying “armed resistance” against Israel could commence any day.

“I do not endorse armed resistance at the moment, but I may change my mind later,” President Mahmoud Abbas said in a recent Arabic-language interview translated into English on the Elder of Ziyon website, a blog that tracks Israeli-Palestinian issues. “I do not adopt military resistance at this time, but it is possible that I change my mind tomorrow or after tomorrow, or any time.”

Following Morocco’s shock World Cup penalty shoot-out victory over the Spanish national team on Tuesday, Moroccan fans have once again rioted across multiple countries, including Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

The scenes of chaos mark the third time Moroccan fans have rioted following a World Cup victory, with the first two times last month already drawing condemnation.

Following riots in Brussels and elsewhere, Spanish police are taking preemptive measures to deal with potential disturbances in the wake of the Spain-Morocco football World Cup match scheduled for Tuesday, December 6.

The affair of the reception of the migrant boat Ocean Viking continues to rebound and appears more and more like a management disaster on the part of the French government—unfortunately, highly predictable. It is epigrammatic of all the dysfunctions of immigrant reception policy, both at the national and European levels.

The boat docked on Friday, November 10th, in the military port of Toulon. The procedure for receiving refugees was then set in motion, and the French authorities quickly lost control of the situation, with one scandal following another. The controversy first arose over the conditions under which the migrants were received—either too favourable or too undignified, depending on the criticism from one side of the political spectrum or the other.

But the main problem involved the actual processing of the asylum applications. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, while attempting to use the occasion to demonstrate governmental firmness on illegal immigration, produced the opposite results. The judicial institutions did not follow the watchword. After having been initially refused entry to the territory, 123 adults out of the 189 placed in the ‘waiting zone’—the reception centre especially set up for the occasion on the Giens peninsula—were released. The courts were unable to rule on their case due to the lack of sufficient magistrates. Lack of time and procedural flaws are among the reasons for the defective ‘firmness’ displayed in high places.

Following the victory of the Moroccan football team against Belgium at the World Cup, groups of young migrant men have taken to the streets in Belgium and the Netherlands to celebrate their victory. Already prior to the match, the atmosphere was heated—illegal fireworks were launched, some of which injured a journalist in the face. But the celebrations following the surprise victory quickly turned into riots, when shops, cars, and even policemen were attacked by the mob.

The rioting migrants, mostly Belgian Moroccans, but also other migrants from Africa, left behind a trail of destruction, demolishing entire streets in Brussels, flipping over cars, and starting fires. The police called on citizens to avoid certain parts of Brussels and closed off metro stations before engaging the mob with riot police. Videos of the riots, which more resembled a civil war than the celebration of a football game, spread on Twitter like wildfire.

A Jordanian national with three deportation orders who had been known to authorities under 13 identities has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in the emergency room at a Parisian hospital late last month.

The alleged sexual assault, which took place on the night of October 27th to the 28th at the Cochin hospital in Paris, saw the 22-year-old Jordanian man, who was patient at the medical facility, sexually assault and rape a 34-year-old female patient who had been admitted to the emergency department following a traumatic brain injury, Le Figaro reports.

Al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab, which controls large swathes of the country, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying in a statement that it was targeting the nearby presidential palace.

Two Iranian-born brothers were charged in Sweden with aggravated espionage for allegedly spying for Russia and its military intelligence service GRU for around a decade, prosecutors said Friday. One of the men worked for Sweden’s domestic intelligence agency.

Authorities identified them as Peyman Kia, 42, and Payam Kia, 35. One of the brothers was also indicted for the alleged gross unauthorized handling of secret information. It wasn’t immediately clear which of them it was.
