By now it is obvious to everyone that Covid has become a bizarre mystery cult embraced by those into left-wing politics. There are some exceptions, like the HBD crowd, which was driven mad by Covid. A few dissidents were gripped by the great fear, but most have recovered. The bulk of the people hooked on Covid, however, are the sorts of people who obsess over climate change or check under their beds at night to make sure Hitler is not hiding there.

The HBD people were driven mad by Covid because it was a reminder of their exile and the price they have paid for holding bad ideas. This issue was in their wheelhouse, but their status excluded them from the conversation. If they had been in good standing, this would have been their time to shine. Instead, they were left to jump up and down on the sidelines desperately trying to get the attention of their old friends. This is the agony that comes with exile.

The Covidian proper is someone who traffics in the usual fads. She totes her groceries home in grimy canvas sacks because Gaia supposedly hates plastic. At one time, she had a weird food allergy, maybe a series of them. The overlap between Covidians and Glutenites is near 100%. Of course, she was sure that Trump was Hitler and she was also sure Kavanaugh was going to stuff her uterus full of Bibles. Covid is just the latest stop on the crazy train for her.

More important, fake narratives are slightly different from plain fake news. Fake narratives don’t lie outright. Instead, they mislead readers into biases that make it hard for them to develop an awareness of the truth.

For instance, a number of media figures sent out tweets last week to the effect that Kyle Rittenhouse had crossed a state line with an automatic weapon to a city he had no connection with and gunned down three black peaceful protesters.

I doubt that they were knowingly trying to convince their readers that Rosenbaum, Huber, and Grosskreutz were African-Americans. Instead, they couldn’t remember the facts because they were inconvenient for the Narrative. They had absorbed from their colleagues’ articles a worldview in which, of course, all that stuff virtually had to be true, so why would they need to fact-check the way they remember the story? That they got so much embarrassingly wrong would imply that their picture of the world is based on low-brow hate and fallacies, and that can’t possibly be: They’re media professionals!

The College Board, the organization that runs the SAT exams, has announced that they will no longer be giving SAT subject exams. That will be a problem for home schooled students who want a way of convincing colleges to admit them, especially for ones who hope to be accepted by an elite school. Home schooled students don’t have high school grades or teachers’ recommendations; unless they have some extraordinary accomplishment to show, publishing a novel or winning a national chess championship, they largely depend on objective tests to convince schools to accept them.

The replacement suggested by the College Board in its explanation of the change is the AP exam. Home schooled students take AP exams by finding a local school willing to let them do so. Assuming they can do so, there is still a problem. The AP exam, with a score range of of 1-5, is not nearly as good a way for student to prove his ability as an SAT exam with a score range of 200-800. One percent of students got an 800 on the Literature SAT, 9.3% a 5 on the English language and literature AP. 3% got an 800 on the American History SAT, 13% a 5 on the United States History AP. An 800 on either exam is much stronger evidence of a student’s knowledge than a 5 on the corresponding AP exam.

Below is my column in The Hill on the aftermath of Rittenhouse verdict and how the jury functioned as design to rule on the evidence and the law rather than public passions. Many have called for self-defense laws to be curtailed in light of the verdict. We can certainly have that debate. However, this jury was tasked with applying these facts to existing law. They did not have the luxury of reframing the legal standard to achieve their own concept of justice.

I have not been paying as close attention to this story as might be.

It was not until today that I learned what the attentive knew from the first day: Kyle Rittenhouse was at the gas station his grandparents owned, when rioters lit a dumpster on fire, and rolled it toward the gas pumps, in an attempt to ignite the petrol tanks, or explode them.

When he moved toward the dumpster fire with a fire extinguisher was when he was brutally attacked by three criminals: a child-rapist, a wifebeater, and a communist agitator. Two are felons, one had his felony burglary charge expunged from the record.

Jojo Rosenbaum was a registered sex offender who was out on bond for a domestic abuse battery accusation. Huber was a felon convicted in a strangulation case who was recently accused of domestic abuse. Grosskreutz from the violent activist group “The People’s Revolution” a was scofflaw convicted of misdemeanor firearm use while intoxicated; he was armed with a handgun on the fatal night, which, unlike Rittenhouse, he was carrying illegally.

To this day, the enemy and the servants of the enemy slander the heroic youth as a member of a Nazi militia roaming from state to state with illegal weapons, hunting and shooting sad-eyed and helpless minorities.

This is not an error occasioned by mischance, ignorance, or oversight. It is a satanic evil.

One day, when sufficient distance has been gained from the Current Year to permit sober reflection on our own era, the recent past will no doubt be seen as a watershed in American political history. The election of Barack Obama in 2008 gave politics a religious sheen for Millennials just coming of age, and for Boomers hoping to avoid confronting the wreckage left in the wake of their rule. The election of Donald Trump in 2016 gave the new religion its devil. From Russia collusion to #MeToo, from Covington Catholic to Judge Kavanaugh, American culture and politics in the years since has been an unbroken series of witch crazes, lynch mobs, and human sacrifices (some successfully carried out, others not). The Democratic Party, the corporate press, and progressive activists openly embraced political violence as a means to achieve policy goals, block political appointments, and now, to attempt to affect court decisions.

Conservatives have compromised, cowered, negotiated, and denied in the face of the Left’s radicalization, but 2020 was the year when the Right finally began to realize it was backed up against a wall.

To leftists and the prosecutors who did their bidding, Kyle Rittenhouse’s offense wasn’t any of the things he was charged with. He clearly had an unassailable defense to all of the charges against him. But that didn’t matter because Rittenhouse was guilty of something else — showing up armed at a leftist riot or, as the left called it, “vigilantism.”

As the left and the prosecution see it, Rittenhouse never should have gone to Kenosha. Once there, he shouldn’t have defended property from the rioters. And having done that, he certainly shouldn’t have left the property and entered the street. Indeed, the prosecution saw fit to show the jury that the group defending the property was warned by the mob not to enter the street.

When those charged with ensuring public order and defending people’s lives and property, the essential first duty of a government, refuse to act, the citizenry have the right (and some would say the obligation) to act for themselves. Unless people can go about their daily business in confidence that they won’t be assaulted or robbed, society disintegrates, and we wind up with government by criminal gangs — as Mexico and other Latin American countries make clear.

Richard Ayvazyan and his wife, Marietta Terabelian, were facing prison for their role in a massive covid relief fraud scheme when they cut off their electronic tracking bracelets and fled their California home, abandoning their three teenage children.

Jeff Bezos, the world’s second-richest man, gave a donation at a star-studded Hollywood charity gala Saturday night—and reportedly got some ribbing for it. The Amazon billionaire, accompanied by girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, still gifted a substantial sum to the Baby 2 Baby charity—$500,000. In all, the event reportedly raised $8.5 million, honoring Kobe Bryant’s widow, Vanessa, with its “Giving Tree” award. An insider who attended the socially conscious bash told Page Six, “Everyone was waiting for him to donate something, but he didn’t. Then someone donated a million dollars. And then a little later, [Bezos] donated $500,000. There was an audible groan from the room. If someone else can donate a million, Jeff Bezos can donate more than a million.”

Update: On Wednesday, a source close to the event clarified that no one donated $1 million. The amount was input incorrectly due to a clerical error.

I just watched several hours of testimony from big shots at the NIH and the CDC. It might as well have been a paid advertisement from Moderna and Pfizer. Nearly every word out of the bureaucrats’ mouths was structured to push the vaccines that most everyone knows by now have failed to live up to their promise.

Indeed, if they were as good and safe as they say, government would not need to mandate them. The mandates, ironically, undermine public confidence. It’s hard to imagine that public confidence in everything could fall further, but it will.

To top it off, making all the above much worse, the vaccination is now coming for the kids.

Mandates will surely follow. You want revolution in this country? This is a good way to foment one. The current regime has another year of unchecked power. It seems unfathomable. So far, they have not been deterred by anything, not the courts, not public opinion, not even sinking election prospects.

Americans were horrified to be told to live like Europeans. Is it longer life expectancy they mind? (The Guardian) No, it’s the totalitarianism. Understandable that someone named Arwa Mahdawi doesn’t see that.

In its capacity as a conduit for the publication of classified national security information, the Times itself is a recidivist offender against the laws of the United States. The gravity of the Times’s wrongdoing far exceeds the misconduct O’Keefe et al. could have committed in this case, if any. The backdrop of the Times’s wrongdoing sets its O’Keefe stories — both what they say and what they don’t — in an acid context.

“Not wanting to give some random app a ton of personal information, I declined,” the Hollywood resident told me.

According to Google Chrome, it has over 40,000 current users, and the extension is also supported via Firefox and Android.

The State Department is working to secure the release of several hostages taken by Iran-backed terrorists after they stormed the U.S. embassy facility in Sana’a, Yemen, U.S. officials told the Washington Free Beacon early Thursday.

A group of Houthi rebels reportedly stormed the U.S. compound on Wednesday seeking “large quantities of equipment and materials,” according to regional reports translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute. The raid comes just five days after the Houthis kidnapped Yemeni nationals who work for the U.S. embassy.

The State Department confirmed to the Free Beacon that the Yemeni staffers are being held hostage and that the Iran-backed militants stole property after breaching the American facility in Sana’a, which housed U.S. embassy staff prior to the suspension of operations there in 2015.

They thought the message they sent to their leaders and the rulers, in general, is they are done with the craziness. The Republican leaders promptly supported the Democrats in generating more crazy.

It has been noted before that for the people who call themselves conservative and support the Republican Party, their best president was Bill Clinton. His was the most conservative administration since Eisenhower, according to the modern definition of conservative. The worst president was George W. Bush, the guy the Republican Party claimed was the epitome of conservatism. Conservative voters still hate Bill Clinton and mostly ignore Bush.
