The word “smishing” is derived from a combination of “SMS” and “phishing”. “Phishing” describes the phenomenon of being deceived into giving sensitive information to a disguised cybercriminal and “SMS” indicates that the deception is carried out via text messaging. Smishing is therefore essentially a newer breed of the infamous spam emails, however, due to the perceived intimacy of a personal text message, SMS scams have a higher chance of going unnoticed.

To further take advantage of your confidence in text message safety, attackers tend to assume the identity of well-known companies people are used to receiving legitimate messages from, such as DHL, Netflix, or Apple. Smishing text messages usually depict a situation that due to their urgency, are known to grab the victim’s attention, such as a package delivery notification, a purchase confirmation, or a credit card suspension notice. The ultimate “goal” of smishing is to trick unsuspecting people into giving away their personal or financial information. In many cases, simply clicking the provided link can initiate a download process of viruses or malware, which the cybercriminal can use to access all data and information stored on your phone.

Edward L. Bernays was an American business consultant who is widely recognized as the father of public relations. Bernays was one of the men responsible for “selling” World War 1 to the American public by branding it as a war that was necessary to “make the world safe for democracy”.

During the 1920s, Bernays consulted for a number of major corporations, helping to boost their business through expertly crafted marketing campaigns aimed at influencing public opinion.

In 1928, Edward Bernays published his famous book, Propaganda, in which he outlined the theories behind his successful “public relations” endeavours. The book provides insights into the phenomenon of crowd psychology and outlines effective methods for manipulating people’s habits and opinions.

I’m so old I can remember Bill Clinton blaming the 1995 Oklahoma bombing on Rush Limbaugh. Heck, I’m so old I can recall MSNBC and the rest of the leftist hive mind blaming the 2011 shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords on Sarah Palin, when 30 seconds of observation showed clearly the shooter was severely mentally ill. Oh, wait—you don’t need to be old for that: the New York Times repeated that outrageous slur in an editorial just four years ago—now the subject of a much-deserved libel suit from Palin.

Actually this is the left’s oldest playbook, and it hasn’t gotten any less stale than it was in the aftermath of that November 1963 day in Dallas, when the left blamed JFK’s assassin on a “climate of right-wing hate” in Texas, despite the obvious fact that Kennedy’s killer was a dedicated Communist. Keep in mind that the left, including high government officials in the Kennedy administration, had been braying for several years that the principal threat to the nation was the “radical right,” and especially those little old ladies in tennis shoe bombs in the John Birch Society.

More than two decades ago, the United Nations created a program to curb the trafficking of small arms. It’s done nothing but fire blanks. So now, the U.N. wants to control bullets.

In 2001, the United Nations started the Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat, and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects. Its next meeting will be held in New York from June 27 to July 1.

The Programme isn’t a treaty. It’s a political gathering that’s meant to encourage voluntary cooperation. It meets every other year to produce an outcome document that’s politically (but not legally) binding.

It’s supposed to work by unanimous consent.

The Programme has achieved very little, if anything. That’s not just my view. The U.N. secretary-general said so in 2008. New Zealand said so in 2012. Its supporters said it was “firing blanks” in 2014. In 2018, the Red Cross said that governments in the Programme talk a lot, but do nothing.

A team of researchers led by Yale University scientists can now quantify the factors causing changes in the DNA that contribute most to cancer growth in tumors of most major tumor types.

In a new paper published in the journal Molecular Biology and Evolution, they say that their new molecular analysis approach clarifies a long-standing debate about how much control humans have over cancer development over time.

Mark Esper, President Trump’s last confirmed Secretary of Defense, has been the toast of all the networks this week for his new memoir, starting with the high-profile debut on “60 Minutes” with CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell. Then came CNN and MSNBC and PBS and NPR and Fox News.

That doesn’t even count the massive sharing of soundbites from these interviews, mostly dedicated to the unending hunger for “tell us all the crazy crap Trump said next” anecdotes. The last president’s failure to accept the certified election results and his failure to call off January 6 rioters may be the craziest stuff.

Other than Bret Baier of Fox News – surely the most skeptical of the lot – the toughest question Esper faced was how could he stand ever taking a job with Trump, and why on Earth did he hang around?

Put that parade aside for a minute for a much more general point about “tell-all books.” Try for a few minutes to remember the tell-all books that emerged from Bill Clinton’s cabinet and White House inner circle. Maybe you can come up with Locked in the Cabinet by Labor Secretary Robert Reich (1997). That wasn’t a rip-roaring “tell-all.” Then there’s All Too Human by George Stephanopoulos (1999). The network interviewers threw questions about how he looked like an “ingrate” and a “backstabber,” inquiries which aren’t often thrown at Republican tattlers. But by that time, he was an ABC News star.

Yesterday I wrote about the fact that NIH officials including Anthony Fauci have been paid hundreds of millions of dollars in patent royalties by pharmaceutical companies and others, raising obvious conflict of interest issues which the NIH has covered up rather than trying to address.

But it gets worse: remember how Fauci constantly undermined President Trump during the early stages of the covid epidemic? It turns out that he was paid to do the exact opposite of his job–to subvert his boss, the president.

Peter Wood’s essay provides two necessary and overdue contributions to understanding the madness that has gripped America’s college campuses—and by extension our ruling class: a forthright recognition of false political language and an account of the sociological origin of the Critical Race Theory movement. But while it is necessary to understand the faulty intellectual wiring that has been laid within the university, it is insufficient to explain the power surge that has short-circuited our public discourse and—it seems—essentially fried so many bright young brains.

A new force has emerged that deforms young minds before they ever arrive at university: the social internet. College campuses no longer shape young souls. Rather, colleges are being reshaped by the students. These students arrive with brains pre-wired to rebel against the university’s most basic cognitive demand: reflective contemplation.

The true roots of our societal obsession “with race” may owe less Derrick Bell and Kimberlé Crenshaw than it does to Facebook and Twitter. Our obsession “with gender” may owe less to Judith Butler and John Money than to Tumblr and TikTok. The woke ideas gestating for decades in academia have not suddenly swept through society because of their inherent strength, but rather because they are uniquely well-suited to shallow, impulsive minds. College is not more important now than ever. It is less. The university has become handmaiden to the metaversity.

As Peter Wood expertly describes in his essay, “diversity” really means exclusion, “equity” really means discrimination, and “inclusion” means segregation. In other words, our modern incarnation of affirmative action is simply a riff on old-fashioned race discrimination. And the justifications for such discrimination are not much different than the defenses offered by the segregationists in the 1950s. In the landmark case of Brown v. Board of Education, attorneys supporting the segregationist cause claimed in court filings that segregation afforded blacks a better “opportunity to participate,” made blacks feel “inwardly more secure,” and actually “promote[d] cross-racial understanding.” In other words, discrimination was good, right, and salutary in their minds, and now good again in the minds of modern woke policymakers, business leaders, and educrats.

Today, as we confront the neo-segregationists and their banners of “diversity, equity, and inclusion,” we must remember that there are no half-measures. The only “good” amount of racial discrimination, the only just amount, is none. Even a little bit of race discrimination, however seemingly benign or beneficial, cannot exist in an American system devoted to equality under the law, individuality, and an equal shot at the American Dream. As Justice Scalia wrote, concurring in the decision regarding the University of Texas’s affirmative action program, “I think the lesson of history is clear enough: racial discrimination is never benign.” Instead, race discrimination, even in a small dose, is pernicious and odious to notions of a free society, and, most critically, its application has no logical stopping point. Proponents of race discrimination will always have a new justification for its use to meet their righteous ends.

YouTube get paid by the advertisers when they insert video ads. And they get paid even more when they let the advertisers insert longer video ads. On the other hand, YouTube needs to make sure their users are not too bothered by the long ads, so they created the “Skip Ad” button. However, the advertisers don’t have to pay YouTube when their ads are skipped too soon (via). This means YouTube can’t just let everyone click on the “Skip Ad” button all the time. After all, any additional click on the “Skip Ad” button is going to impact the revenue. Furthermore, if skipping ads was too easy, it would hurt the sales of YouTube’s ad-free subscription as well. So while YouTube offers the “Skip Ad” button, YouTube ultimately wants the users to stay away from clicking the “Skip Ad” button.

At present, if I go to a YouTube video and the initial image suggests that I’m going to have to wait through part of a video ad before I get to my desired content, I just leave.

Life is too short to spend even five second listening to how the American taxpayer can be forced to pay for you to install solar panels on your house with no up-front cost, or having some person who I would avoid on the street tell me about the great deal he got on life insurance.

People are fed up with the urban utopian socialist experiment in California. One business owner barricaded a public street in Sacramento to prevent a further spillover in crime from other areas.

“The game is over. We’re taking back our streets,” business owner Rich Eaton told FOX40. He barricaded part of Railroad Drive to prevent the commercial area from additional car burglaries, rampant building theft, prostitution, and homeless encampments.

Democrats and Republicans might hate each other’s guts, but they can agree on at least one thing: The Lincoln Project sucks, and should stop meddling in the 2022 elections with its self-righteous “pro-democracy” nonsense.

“Pls no,” wrote Izzy Levy, communications director for Tim Ryan, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Ohio, upon learning the Lincoln Project had identified the Ohio Senate contest as one of “the most crucial races to the survival of democracy in the United States.” Luke Thompson, an adviser to Ryan’s GOP challenger, J.D. Vance, immediately concurred.

It is understandable why Ryan’s campaign would not want the Lincoln Project to get involved in the Ohio Senate race. The scandal-plagued super PAC has a proven track record of helping Republican candidates win elections in swing states. Last year, for example, the Lincoln Project played an instrumental role in Glenn Youngkin’s upset victory over Terry McAuliffe in the Virginia gubernatorial election by forcing a bunch of interns to dress up as neo-Nazis and harass Youngkin at a rain-soaked campaign event.

3. ^{Abortion hurts men. Abortion on demand means that many fathers must watch their children killed against their will. Some months, years, or even decades later, fathers find out that the child they would’ve wanted to nurture was killed without their input or consent.}
4. ^{Abortion harms marriages and families. Abortion hurts families in numerous ways, among which are destruction of a baby, fueling of male irresponsibility, marginalization of fatherhood, and the implicit message that members of a family may use lethal force to solve their problems.}
5. ^{Abortion undermines justice and equality. Abortion should not be a matter of “choice” any more than other situations that involve taking the life of an innocent person. When we allow our citizens to take the life of innocent persons, we undermine our nation’s claim to being a law-governed democracy. No longer does our nation really believe that we are all created equal; no longer do we seek justice for all.}
6. ^{Abortion undermines our nation’s system of checks and balances. In Roe v. Wade and subsequent decisions, a Supreme Court majority bypassed democratic debate and legislation by fabricating a constitutional right to abortion.}
7. ^{Abortion minimizes society’s mediating institutions. Abortion on demand assumes that an individual (the mother) has the right to take a life without the consent of the baby’s father or siblings. This sort of individual autonomy pushes America even further toward a cultural environment where the only actors of consequence are the ever-expanding state and the solitary individual.}

Rioters in Los Angeles attacked police officers Tuesday night, injuring at least two, in the wake of Politico‘s report indicating the Supreme Court is on the verge of overturning Roe v. Wade.

Police attempted to disperse a group of pro-abortion protesters when they tried to occupy an intersection, LAPD chief Michel Moore said. At that point, some began to throw rocks and bottles at officers, two of whom were injured in the attack.

One officer was struck in the head, LAPD captain Steven Ruiz said, possibly by his own baton. That officer is “doing OK,” the captain said. The other injured officer’s condition is unknown, but an ambulance was dispatched to the scene.
