Obama Campaign Breaks 9/11 Truce, Posts Attack Ad Against Romney

12th September 2012

President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney agreed to a truce on the airwaves on Tuesday to mark the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

But the Obama campaign broke that truce, posting a commercial online Tuesday that accused Romney of being “dangerous” for women’s health.

Pure class, that Obama.

39% of Chicago Teachers Send Their Kids to Private Schools

Where the kids don’t have to worry about, oh, strikes by greedy teachers.

Sort of like the Congresscritters who send their kids to private schools (like Sidwell Friends, recipient of Chelsea Clinton and the two Obama girls) rather than the D.C. public schools, then vote to kill the voucher program for said D.C. schools that was providing poor black kids with at least a chance to go to good private schools.

Some Georgia Schools Make Mandarin Mandatory

9th September 2012

Read it.

I guess the theory is that when their jobs are shipped to China they can follow along. Or something.

Public schools in Macon, Ga., and surrounding Bibb County have a lot of problems. Most of the 25,000 students are poor enough to qualify for free and reduced lunch, and about half don’t graduate.

Welcome to Black-Run America. Be careful not to step in the diversity.

Bibb County’s Haitian-born superintendent Romain Dallemand came into the job last year with a bag of changes he calls “The Macon Miracle.” There are now longer schools days, year-round instruction, and one mandate nobody saw coming: Mandarin Chinese for every student, pre-K through 12th grade.

Trying to teach the kids standard English rather than Ebonics is obviously doomed to failure, so lets invest in some trendy foreign language. What’s Mandarin for ‘We be toys ‘n’ shit’?

“Students who are in elementary school today, by 2050 they’ll be at the pinnacle of their career,” Dallemand says. “They will live in a world where China and India will have 50 percent of the world GDP. They will live in a world where, if they cannot function successfully in the Asian culture, they will pay a heavy price.”

And yet they’re making no attempt to teach Hindi, which is the other half of this ‘Asian equation’. Perhaps that’s because Indians are pushing their kids to learn English, which is the default international language of business. But Hindi isn’t as hip and trendy as Mandarin, so it gets ignored; which, in turn, reveals this ploy for what it is: A way to make parents and politicians feel good about themselves while not doing anything effective about training these abused kids for a productive life. And so we end up with FIREFLY, a world in which everyone can speak English and Chinese while living hand-to-mouth. My, what an improvement.

“Bibb County is not known for producing the highest-achieving graduates,” says Macon resident Dina McDonald. “You’ll see that many of them can’t even speak basic English.”

McDonald herself has a ninth-grader in the public schools and says she can imagine some students going into fields where Mandarin could be useful, like international business, technology or law. But with lower achievers, she says, “Do you want to teach them how to say, ‘Do you want fries with that?’ in Mandarin?”

Oh, God forbid that the parents might be consulted in all of this. We’re from the government, and we have a better idea.

“While we do know that Mandarin is a critical language, another critical language here in the United States is Spanish,” Eric Spears says.

Bibb high schools will continue to offer Spanish and French on top of Mandarin, but for most of the elementary kids, it’s Chinese or nothing. Considering the Hispanic population doubled in Georgia over the last census period, the “Why not Spanish?” question is one Dallemand gets a lot.

“My wife is a Latina, and so I fully understand,” he says. But “it is important for communities to educate our children for their future, not our past.”

For that future, Dallemand says, there is no choice but Mandarin Chinese.

And ‘no choice’ is what the Crust is all about.

Democrats, the Oxymoron Party

6th September 2012

Read it.

Although Democrats adopted a plank supporting the constitutional overturning of Citizens United for the sake of democracy, they managed to ignore their own party rules and delegate voices this afternoon when amending the party platform. DNC Chairman Antonio Villaraigosa announced the party required a two-thirds vote to amend the party platform. However, minutes after failing to reach the threshold after three separate votes, he awkwardly moved forward and declared the two-thirds threshold had been reached.

At least they’re consistent in ignoring their own rules along with everyone else’s.

Missing from Ted Kennedy Tribute: Mary Jo Kopechne

6th September 2012

Read it.

For Democrats, the end always justifies the means, and rhetoric will always trump reason. The two great orators of the Democratic party of the last 40 years, Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy, were two of the most immoral men who ever graced public life. Clinton will speak tonight, and as always, his horrific history of rape and abuse of women will be ignored so he can pose as a person who really cares.

Just ask Juanita Broaddrick, Paula Jones, and Kathleen Willie, among others too numerous to name, how much he cares.

But the worst example of all is the Democrats lionizing of Ted Kennedy. In a seven minute video at the DNC, there were plenty of quotes from Kennedy and his admirers that should be seen through the agonized eyes of a young girl, slowly asphyxiating in a car submerged in water, a young woman vainly trying to open the door so she could breathe just one more time, a young woman betrayed by the scion of the country’s most powerful family who left her to die.

Mary Jo Kopechne.

And the feminists say: [chirp] … [chirp] … [chirp] ….

DNC Requires Photo ID to Enter Convention

4th September 2012

Read it.

Democrats have railed against voter ID laws, and their platform “opposes laws that place unnecessary restrictions” on those seeking to vote, but Democratic National Convention officials will only issue credentials to those who present state-issued IDs.

The DNC’s website says that “all pickup persons must have a state-issued ID that matches the name submitted” to receive credentials. Media members attending the DNC have to present photo IDs at multiple checkpoints.

But even as Democrats require IDs to enter their convention and The Voter Integrity Project discovered there were 30,000 dead North Carolinians still on the state’s voter rolls, Democrats continue to fiercely oppose voter ID laws.

That smell is just Normal Democrat Smell. They always stink like that.

UK: Christians Should ‘Leave Their Beliefs at Home or Get Another Job’

4th September 2012

Read it.

Christians should leave their religious beliefs at home or accept that a personal expression of faith at work, such as wearing a cross, means they might have to resign and get another job, government lawyers have said.

Rather an odd position for the government of a nation with an established church — not that anybody would mistake the Church of England for Christians, of course.

Who’s willing to bet that they would say that to Muslims? Anybody? Didn’t think so.

S&P Downgrades Illinois Credit Again

2nd September 2012

Read it.

Standard & Poor’s downgraded Illinois’ credit rating on Wednesday, citing “weak pension funding levels and lack of action on reform measures.”  S&P also gave the state a “negative outlook.”

The agency lowered Illinois’ rating from A+ to A. This is the 10th time Illinois’ credit has been lowered during Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn’s tenure and will potentially cost Illinois taxpayers because the state may have to pay more when borrowing money.

Of course, that wouldn’t matter if the state didn’t have to borrow money. Unfortunately, with Democrats in charge, borrowing money is one of the few tools in the state government’s toolbox. And, as Margaret Thatcher famously observed, eventually you run out of other people’s money.

Walter Russell Mead, a scholar who is one of the foremost critics of the so-called “blue state” model, wrote Democrats who defend such an unsustainable governance model — like the one in Illinois — should not be taken seriously.

“With public-sector unions fighting tooth and nail to preserve their cushy benefits and expensive pension plans, old style Dems like FDR, Harry Truman and Fiorello LaGuardia—all of whom thought that public sector unionism was a terrible idea—are looking smarter and smarter all the time, Mead wrote. “The combination of collective bargaining and the power of a focused voting lobby and campaign finance machine has unbalanced the budgets of too many cities and states to retain much appeal to the general public.”

“Blue State = Red Ink” is the prevailing fundamental equation of our time.

An Alien Pod Person in a Room Full of Leftists

28th August 2012

Read it.

How did we get to this point? The way I remember things, the left used to be the chin-scratching, idea-weighing side where dissent was encouraged. I don’t think my views have changed. I still hate the government and despite the laughter it brings, I’d still call myself a feminist. The problem is, when the president is black and the fanatics who are oppressing women are brown, it’s racist to complain about the government and religion. The left went from thinking outside the box to becoming myopically fixated on anything that sounds mean or benefits “white males” (AKA someone who reminds them of dad). What remains is a sea of knee-jerk liberals who aren’t just intolerant of other points of view, they literally can’t handle the truth.

Welcome to the modern world. Be careful not to step in the diversity.

W. Indian Parade VIPs Getting Frozen Out

25th August 2012

Read it.

To prevent VIP politicians from entering frozen zones and clashing with cops during the West Indian Day Parade, Mayor Bloomberg yesterday said the NYPD at this year’s parade will bar credentialed officials from entering frozen zones entirely.

“Any government IDs or other status symbols that you want to pull out and say, ‘Hey, I’m a big deal,’ we’re just not going to let that happen,” the mayor said. “We’ve got to let the police do their job free of distractions.”

The move comes in reaction to an incident at last year’s event, where City Councilman Jumaane Williams (D-Brooklyn) and Kirsten John Foy, a former aide to Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, got into a tussle with cops who didn’t realize they had been given permission by a higher-up to enter a frozen zone.

Foy is suing the city, saying he was injured in the encounter.

“The mayor’s missing the forest for the trees,” Foy told The Post. “The real issue was caused out of a lack of respect that is borne out of discriminatory policing practices. The incident last year was not caused by who was allowed into the frozen zones.”

Moral: Don’t be lacking in respect to a VIP like a former aide to a Public Advocate. They can be right down there with high school girls when it comes to being petty and vindictive.

Oh, and be careful not to step in the diversity — you just can’t get that stuff off of your shoes.

Widespread Vaccine Exemptions Are Messing With Herd Immunity

24th August 2012

Read it.

But, despite the amazing benefits, immunization rates have been falling, driven by a fear that vaccines cause health problems such as autism. The autism risk has been both thoroughly debunked and the paper that originally suggested it turned out to be the product of an unethical, financially motivated individual. Despite this debunking, surveys show that a quarter of US parents think that vaccines can trigger autism, and rates of vaccination have continued to fall in many states. A new study looks at incoming kindergartners in California, and finds that the lack of vaccination is threatening herd immunity in some schools, and that some measures of risk have doubled in just three years.

Lance Armstrong, Latest Victim of the 2000-Pound Sponge

24th August 2012

Read it.

1. Note that he is to be ‘stripped of his titles’. As if that will make people forget that he actually won those races. No, it’s all about the ‘permanent record’, which is in the hands of the bureaucrats.

2. Note that he is to be ‘banned for life’. From what? From participating in the sort of competitions run by these slug. What a hardship.

Armstrong claims the USADA investigation “has not been about learning the truth or cleaning up cycling, but about punishing me at all costs”.

That seems like a true statement. (If you haven’t seem the movie, RollerBall, do so. It deals with a similar sports situation in a dystopian future that we seem to be rapidly approaching.)

Armstrong, in a passionate defence of his career record, said USADA had no right to take away his Tour titles.

“USADA cannot assert control of a professional international sport and attempt to strip my seven Tour de France titles,” he said.

“I know who won those seven Tours, my team-mates know who won those seven Tours, and everyone I competed against knows who won those seven Tours.

So who is this USADA?

The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) is a non-profit organization funded by the US Government, sports organizations, and the national anti-doping organization (NADO) for the United States.

So it’s an organization set up by people who think that ‘doping’ is bad, supported by the government but with no legal authority. Welcome to the New World Order.

USADA is not a government entity, however the agency is mostly funded ($9 million) by the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), with its remaining budget generated from contracts for anti-doping services with sport organizations, most notably the United States Olympic Committee.[4] The United States has also ratified the UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport, the first global international treaty against doping in sport.

Putting aside the question of why the fuck the U.S. government is entering into a TREATY against ‘doping in sport’ — surely it has better things to do? — the more serious question is why the government is funding and giving apparent legitimacy to this group of international busybodies.

U.S. District Court Judge Sam Sparks noted, though, that the USADA’s “conduct raises serious questions about whether its real interest in charging Armstrong is to combat doping, or if it is acting according to less noble motives.”

No shit.

Urban Renewal: The Board Game

23rd August 2012

Read it.

n the game, players can assume one of the following roles: City Councilor, Developer, Community Activist, City Planning Employee, Man-On-The-Street, Academic Urban Theorist, Resident of Existing Development to be Demolished, Mayor, Random Federal Politician, Skyscraper Enthusiast, or Garbage Man. They take turns spinning the ‘Decision Engine Wheel’ which gives them license to place various types of development (condominium, office, commercial, park, etc.) on the board. Sometimes, players are given the option to bulldoze development, in which case they can use the ‘Tabula Rasa Rake’ to sweep any amount of placed development from the board. As all of this happens, the city evolves.

The most interesting part of this game might be the bulldoze option, as this simulates many actual urban renewal schemes of the 1950’s and 60’s.

Public Sector Unions Planning to Forcibly Enroll Non-Government Employees

23rd August 2012

Read it.

Here’s how they plan to do it: they are using state governments to set up shell corporations that will turn self-employed workers receiving money from government programs into “government employees” who can be unionized.  Already there are ten states that have set up shell corporations or other structures to forcibly unionize independent care providers, who are often people taking care of their disabled children or people taking care of their elderly parents who receive benefits from federal-state programs for their care .

The steps involved in the forced unionization are simple:

  1.  The providers have clients who pay for their services using government funds as “government employees.”
  2.  Because the providers are self-employed people who work for disabled people, but are partially or fully paid for with government programs that pay for the care of the disabled, either the state itself becomes the “employer of record” or the state creates a fictional council or government shell entity to serve as the “employer” of these self-employed providers. This may be done by a governor’s executive order or by act of a state legislature. Some of these shell entities are:  the Michigan Quality Community Care Council (MQC3), the Michigan Home Based Child Care Council (MHBC3), and Missouri Quality Home Care Council.
  3.  Once the independent providers are “government employees”, they can be unionized, and forced to pay union dues, whether or not they join the union—in forced dues states.

A lawyer for the unions even admitted in court that this is a “slippery slope” and states could unionize “any group that accepted state subsidies” if the state considered it in its interest to unionize them.

Reminds me of the tame ‘unions’ that the Nazis and Communists set up under their totalitarian regimes.

Obviously the articles on these sites are very much the work of the disillusioned ex-Wikipedians; but none the less they represent a valuable corrective to the quite misleadingly positive impression that many people have of Wikipedia.  Most people suppose that the way Wikipedia represents itself is accurate.  Even those who have enough experience to realise that this presentation is not how things actually work, and that there is endless fighting involved, nevertheless tend to suppose (as I did) that the administration is honest at least in intent.  The testimonies of the ex-Wikipedians suggest very strongly otherwise.

Plaintiffs’ Lawyers to Receive All the Cash in Moody’s Derivative Settlement

20th August 2012

Read it.

Could the only cash payment so far from a credit rating agency in shareholder litigation stemming from the financial crisis go entirely to plaintiffs’ lawyers?

It’s entirely possible, based on documents filed this week in consolidated shareholder derivative litigation against Moody’s. Moody’s agreed to settle the cases last month, in a deal that requires the rating agency to institute corporate governance reforms but nets not a penny for shareholders. The only money Moody’s agreed to pay is $4.95 million to the plaintiffs’ firms that filed the suit, including Morris and Morris, Greenfield & Goodman and Kahn Swick & Foti. On Monday, the firms asked U.S. District Judge George Daniels of Manhattan to grant final approval to the settlement and fee award.

‘Great news! We won the case!’
‘Great news indeed! How much did we win?’
‘Well, the lawyers won $4.95 million.’
‘Uh, okay. What did the shareholders win?’
‘Moody’s promised not to do it again.’

And there you have modern American justice, boys and girls.

Greenfield, however, said the corporate governance reforms Moody’s agreed to adopt are worth a lot to shareholders and justify the fee request. “The nature of the relief is of substantial value,” he said.

Just not the sort of ‘value’ you can spend.

Government Finds New Ways to Delay Domestic Energy Production

18th August 2012

Read it.

Despite nearly four years of environmental study and two separate permit applications, TransCanada has been unable to lay a single foot of pipe for the Keystone XL project in the United States. The delay in this project has spanned the publication of a Draft Environmental Impact Statement, a Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement, a Final Environmental Impact Statement, no fewer than five national comment periods and the input of hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Now, as the State Department closes the latest of these public comment periods – this one asking Americans what the scope of its newest environmental review of the project should be – we are about to start this entire process all over again. The delays and forced route changes that TransCanada has been forced to endure have added more than a billion dollars to the cost of the project, suspended tens of thousands of high paying jobs, delayed relief at the pump for millions of American drivers and prevented the project from pumping more than $20 billion into the U.S. economy.

Your tax dollars at work.

How Hatred Became a Liberal Value

18th August 2012

Paul Rahe blows the whistle.

I remember when liberals sported on their automobiles bumper stickers reading, “Hatred is not a Family Value.” Then, back in 2003, in The New Republic, Jonathan Chait wrote an essay explaining why it was legitimate to hate George W. Bush, and the dam burst. Civility is no longer a liberal ideal. And now – as yesterday’s armed attack on the Family Research Council in Washington, the five-hour delay in President Obama’s condemnation of the act as he calculated whether it was in his interest to comment or not, and the mainstream media’s initial reluctance to report on the event, much less highlight the activist LGBT connections of the shooter suggest – left liberals are willing to wink at violence. It may be regrettable, they think, but, like stealing elections, it is all in a good cause – and before figuring out how to respond to an outbreak of violence on the part of their allies, they pause to calculate the political consequences. You will not hear liberals arguing for a crackdown on the use of force by animal-rights activists, environmental activists, union thugs, and the Occupy movement. Instead, you will find in them a desperate hankering to pin on the Tea Party responsibility for conduct the Tea-Partiers abhor and a willingness to engage in race-baiting and talk of class warfare on a stunning scale.

A hostage negotiator is said to be speaking with a small group of protesters who, arms linked, locked themselves inside the Oakland office. It appears they may have entered the building during normal operating hours but have since remained inside beyond the office’s regularly scheduled closing time. Police have been on the scene and were arresting the protesters at the time of this writing.

Guess they’re not getting enough free stuff from the gubmint.

If Scott Olsen is Bradley Manning, then putting him in the next cell would appear to be a win-win. (What is this fetish about Bradley Manning? It’s not as if he were an Oppressed Minority or murdered a cop or any of the Usual Excuses.)

It is not yet known what the list included or whether or not the Obama campaign had been made aware of the list or of this evening’s events.

If they want to get on Obama’s radar, they’re going to need to occupy a golf course or Martha’s Vinyard or something that actually forms, you know, a part of his life. Occupying a campaign headquarters is like occupying an ATM machine.

The Portland protest appeared more subdued but consisted of actions similar to that of the Oakland event.

“My Sister Paid Progressive Insurance to Defend Her Killer In Court”

14th August 2012

Read it.

Carrying Progressive insurance and getting into an accident does not entitle you to the value of your insurance policy. It just pisses off Progressive’s lawyers. Here I address you, Prospective Progressive Insurance Customer: someday when you have your accident, I promise that there will be enough wiggle room for Progressive’s bottomless stack of in-house attorneys to make a court case out of it and to hammer at that court case until you or your surviving loved ones run out of money.

Which is what Progressive decided to do to my family. In hopes that a jury would hang or decide that the accident was her fault, they refused to pay the policy to my sister’s estate.

The problem with insurance companies is the same basic problem as governments — they have more money than you do, money that you provided, and they use that money to serve themselves rather than you … because they can.

At the trial, the guy who killed my sister was defended by Progressive’s legal team.

If you are insured by Progressive, and they owe you money, they will defend your killer in court in order to not pay you your policy.

Of course. It was cheaper to defend the guy than pay the claim. It’s all about the money.

Don’t buy insurance from Progressive. Not only will you be paying the salaries of people who put my family through the wringer (really a smaller wringer that Progressive attached to the main wringer of my sister’s death), but also when the chips are down, your money will have bought you nothing but a kick in the face.

Antisocial Science: Some Liberal Academics Don’t Want Conservatives in Their Herds

8th August 2012

Read it.

In an outcome that must be amusing to social scientists, the percentage of respondents who believed their colleagues would show bias against conservatives was around 10 to 15 percent higher than the number of respondents who said they themselves would show biases. The problem is always other people, isn’t it?

At the 2011 meeting of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, Jonathan Haidt of the University of Virginia polled the audience of some 1,000 in a convention center ballroom to ask how many were liberals (the vast majority of hands went up), how many were centrists or libertarians (he counted a couple dozen or so), and how many were conservatives (three hands went up). In his talk, he said that the conference reflected “a statistically impossible lack of diversity,” in a country where 40 percent of Americans are conservative and only 20 percent are liberal. He said he worried about the discipline becoming a “tribal-moral community” in ways that hurt the field’s credibility.

What Is a Racist?

8th August 2012

Read it.

t has to be evident to all thinking people by now that racism is the new witchcraft. Once you’re branded with the Scarlet “R,” some people do not regard it as immoral to assault you…or worse.

Calling someone a racist is sufficient to brand them as outside the pale of civilized company. In academia, the accusation is a career-wrecker. Socially it is enough to get you dropped from the A-list of the best parties.

Asylum Fraud

6th August 2012

Steve Sailer blows the whistle.

It’s easier to get let into the U.S. legally if you or your loved ones have done something back home that makes your fellow countrymen want to kill you. Emphasize to the U.S. government official how much you are loathed by many of the people who have gotten to know you. What could be better for the citizens of the United States than to import people involved in blood feuds in Albania? If you are some Albanian who minds his own business and stays away from crime and murder, well, good luck in Senator Kennedy’s diversity lottery. But, if you are some Albanian that other Albanians want to kill, well, come on over!

And the Obamateur strikes again.

The President was pictured in the Oval office speaking to Recep Tayyip Erdogan about the escalating crisis in Syria. In one hand was the telephone and the other a bat signed by legendary ballplayer Hank Aaron.

But the photograph caused dismay from opposition Turkish politicians who have interpreted a more menacing message behind the image.

“The photo reveals from whom our Prime Minister receives orders to rule the country,” Metin Lutfi Baydar, an opposition politician for Turkey’s Republican People’s Party (CHP) party, said.

If only … if only….

Killer of American Troops Set to Be Freed, Thanks to Obama

5th August 2012

Read it.

Ali Mussa Daqduq, a Lebanese militant, has been held in Iraq for the 2007 killings of five American soldiers, four of whom were captured, tortured and shot execution-style. But now the Iraqi central criminal court has ordered that Daqduq be freed immediately.

Daqduq was in U.S. custody in Iraq and could have been transferred to Guantanamo Bay. But despite our government’s belief, set forth in the extradition request, that Daqduq is a top threat to Americans in the Middle East, President Obama refused to send him to Gitmo. Instead, the Obama administration decided to let an Iraqi court try him. As a result, barring a reversal of the court’s decision, Daqduq will be freed.

Are you better off now than you were four years ago? Ali Mussa Daqduq certainly is.
