Fed up with years of gun violence and repeated shootings near Aurora Avenue, some residents in North Seattle have started installing their own street barricades in an effort to protect their neighborhoods, KOMO News writes.

Neighbors living near North 97th, 98th, and 102nd streets recently placed large planter boxes, piles of dirt, and gravel across parts of residential roads that connect to Aurora Avenue North. The goal, residents say, is to make it harder for shooters to speed through side streets during violent incidents linked to ongoing prostitution and human trafficking activity in the area.

Tensions escalated again over the weekend after another shooting near Aurora Avenue N and N 98th Street. Seattle police said officers found around 40 shell casings at the scene after multiple people exchanged gunfire. Security footage reportedly captured several seconds of rapid shooting, with bullets hitting nearby apartments, homes, and parked cars. In one recent case, a stray bullet entered a family’s home and came to rest near the bassinet of a 6-week-old baby.

Years ago, I wrote a column denouncing the decision of the University of California system to drop standardized testing in the cause of greater racial diversity. Now, hundreds of UC mathematics faculty have called for a return to such testing after reports showing a thirtyfold increase in students with math skills below high school level.

As written earlier, the University of California system was an early supporter of this disastrous move.

It was heralded as a way to preserve diversity after voters in California repeatedly rejected race-based admissions and the Supreme Court appeared ready to bar such practices (commonly proven with reference to standardized test differentials among applicants).

Now, many professors in the California system have come to the same conclusion as some of us who denounced the move years ago. They have witnessed the drop in academic skills and abilities among incoming students.

These tests not only have the most significant predictive value for performance but also play an important role in the advancement of minority students. Former University of California President Janet Napolitano, however, overrode those conclusions.

Far-left Turkish-American millionaire and Twitch streamer Hasan Piker appears to have committed an operational-security mistake by publicly identifying American Marxist tech financier Neville Roy Singham, who has reportedly been living in China and has been linked by The New York Times to CCP-aligned propaganda networks, as a major financier of pro-Marxist revolutionary NGOs operating inside the U.S.

On Sunday, Piker discussed the U.S. Treasury’s “Requests for Information” subpoena related to his “humanitarian trip” to Cuba with pro-China CodePink cofounder Susan Medea Benjamin. That story was first published by Fox News’ lead NGO investigator, Asra Nomani, on Saturday.

Piker pointed out that the Treasury likely has a broader target, is “probably Singham” and “his operation,” naming PSL (Party for Socialism and Liberation), ANSWER Coalition, Code Pink, and “anything that he has ever financed.”

He then acknowledged that Roy Singham lives in China and has been “a funding vehicle” for political movements and activism in the U.S.

A fatal fiscal dynamic has become entrenched across the European Union. In nearly every member state, public spending is accelerating at all levels — from municipalities and social insurance systems all the way up to the European Commission — while the private economy at best stagnates and its industrial core sectors visibly erode.

This dangerous economic imbalance, in which a shrinking private sector is forced to finance a continuously expanding state apparatus, is already producing fiscal consequences visible in the bond markets. Interest rates have been rising steadily for years, making debt servicing increasingly expensive, while the financing needs of public budgets continue to grow under the ruling ideology of an all-encompassing state. This widening fiscal gap is fueling political appetites for higher taxation — a destructive race among parties to squeeze taxpayers at every level has begun.

And naturally, when it comes to fleecing European taxpayers, the European Commission cannot be absent. Brussels is currently preparing its seven-year budget framework, set to exceed €2 trillion beginning in 2028.

Almost 300 illegal migrants with commercial driver’s licenses were stopped and prosecuted in Indiana over the last three months, according to a top aide to the state’s Gov. Mike Braun.

Tony Ferraro, an aide to the governor who also serves on the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, told the board on Thursday that the state has discovered at least 283 undocumented drivers operating trucks at its weigh stations over a 90-day stretch.

“That’s over three a day that we pulled out of trucks,” he said, according to the Chicago Tribune.

When the Soviet Union collapsed, and America’s defense spending waned, the true costs of socialism began to be clear: The economies became sluggish; the birthrates collapsed, necessitating importing third world, usually Muslim, labor; the social services started imploding, especially because those same third worlders drained the systems, despite never having contributed to them; soft on crime policies destroyed civilized society; and the brain rot of socialism saw Europe embrace the madcap, self-destructive idea of Net Zero carbon output, which has seen Europe retreat from the modern world into a cold, dark, pre-modern time.

Four pro-Palestinian flotilla activists were allegedly beaten by police, dragged across the floor and detained at Bilbao airport after their deportation from Israel.

Footage posted on X shows the moment activists clashed with police that resulted in the detention of three flotilla participants and one of their supporters.

In a jibe at Spanish officials, the Israeli government, which has been criticised by the Spanish government for its alleged treatment of flotilla activists, reposted the video on X and wrote: “We demand an explanation from the Spanish government regarding its treatment of the flotilla anarchists.”

The left-wing U.K. government has claimed it is making real progress in tackling the ongoing migration crisis enveloping Britain after official statistics published on Thursday showed that net migration had decreased to 171,000 last year. However, that figure alone doesn’t tell the whole story.

“I promised to restore control to our borders. My government is delivering,” under-pressure Prime Minister Keir Starmer wrote on X in response to the latest publication by the Office for National Statistics.

“Net migration is now at 171,000, down from a high of 944,000 under the Conservatives,” added Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, claiming the government had “restored order” after the unprecedented figures under the last Conservative administration.

Yet, a glance at the broader figures shows the reported number isn’t as impressive as the government would have you believe.

Although the ICJ’s advisory opinions are not binding, they carry significant legal and moral authority – helping to clarify and develop international law by defining States’ legal obligations.

Millions more families could be dragged into paying a “death tax” on their loved ones’ estates under Andy Burnham’s plans to fund social care.

The Greater Manchester mayor supports scrapping the existing inheritance tax and replacing it with a new levy on assets to fund a National Care Service.

Mr Burnham, who is preparing to oust Sir Keir Starmer as Prime Minister if he wins the Makerfield by-election on June 18, has previously insisted that the wealthiest would contribute the most.

HR departments were originally created as a means of monitoring compliance with state and federal laws to avoid liability. In many cases this revolved around “sexual harassment” or “discrimination” in the workplace, but it ended up becoming a progressive crusade to make women, LGBT and minority groups a protected class of workers that are difficult to fire because HR is more concerned with lawsuits.

This lack of accountability based on gender and minority privilege reached its peak during the height of the woke era and DEI. Companies were rife with useless employees who did little work while raking in six-figure salaries.

Today, the situation is changing rapidly. A wave of layoffs has hit the white collar sector since 2025. The end of DEI is leading to mass cuts which are largely affecting women, with minority women making up the bulk of the job losses.

One company CEO, Ryan Breslow of Bolt, saved his company from implosion by a simple change which allowed him to more easily make a number of other changes: He fired his entire HR department.

Germany spent €24.8 billion on migration-related costs in 2025, according to the federal government’s “Refugee Cost Report,” cited by the finance ministry. Although this represented a decline of €3.2 billion compared to the previous year, the overall financial burden remained high.

A large share of federal spending went toward refugee and integration courses, as well as fixed payments to states and municipalities for asylum seekers. This included a lump sum of €7,500 per initial asylum application, transferred to the states through adjustments to value-added tax revenues. In 2025, advance payments totaled around €1.25 billion, though the federal government expects to reclaim approximately €250 million from the states afterward.

Despite these contributions, several federal states argued that their actual migration-related costs far exceeded federal reimbursements. Bavaria said its support for municipalities covering accommodation, care, and integration “significantly exceeds” the federal compensation payments. Hamburg also called for increased federal funding.

The report highlighted rising costs linked to unaccompanied minor migrants. In North Rhine-Westphalia alone, spending on accommodation and care for unaccompanied minors reached around €667 million in 2025, an increase of roughly €320 million compared to the previous year. State authorities warned that a rapid reduction in costs was unlikely because of the continuing high number of arrivals. Hesse also reported higher spending, with costs rising by around €30 million to €234.9 million.

A new Johns Hopkins University survey shows that more than half of Baltimore respondents expect to move out of their current neighborhoods within three years, as the one-party-ruled state of Democratic Party queens and kings has failed taxpayers on affordability, law and order, and other basic issues commonly standard in red states.

The Hopkins survey, conducted from September to November 2024, found that 42% of Baltimore City residents want to leave the city entirely. Of those, 27% expect to stay somewhere else in Maryland, while 15% expect to leave the state, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Labour is planning a £1bn tax grab on family holidays even as Rachel Reeves unveils summer cost of living support for households.

HMRC officials are drawing up plans to impose VAT of 20pc on top of the fees that airports charge airlines to use their runways and terminals.

These fees are typically passed on to customers in full, meaning the move would heap more costs on holidaymakers and businesses. At Heathrow, the measures could add almost £5 to the current standard charge of about £24.

One airline industry insider said the Labour plan amounted to a “stealth tax” on families at a time when the cost of living crisis meant many people were already struggling to afford a holiday.

The Telegraph also understands that ministers are exploring the possibility of backdating the tax by as many as four years – the maximum permitted under current legislation.

The minimum wage actually tends to make many poor workers worse off and increases unemployment. A recent study on California minimum wage increases demonstrates that fact (yet again).

Just a few weeks ago, Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson infamously giggled when asked if she was concerned about wealthy residents fleeing Seattle because of her policies.

“I think the claims that millionaires are going to leave our state are, like, super overblown. And if—the ones that leave, like, bye,” Wilson said to applause at Seattle University.

As I wrote at the time, this flippant attitude toward a potential wealth exodus was remarkably foolish.

Businesses and the “rich” were already leaving Seattle, but hitting the accelerator on leftist policies is causing a full-blown economic meltdown. The result will be a loss of hundreds of millions—likely even billions—of dollars in future tax revenue.

And it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that a political program based on taxing the rich doesn’t even begin to work if there are few rich to tax. But here we are. Reality is setting in.

The genius of such a policy lies in its symmetry. For years we have been told that opposing mass, uncontrolled migration is “racist”, “far-right” and “morally bankrupt”. Those who preach this gospel however, have customarily done so from the safety of low-crime, high-property-value postcodes, where the practical consequences of their ideology are someone else’s problem. Reform’s proposal flips the script. It says: you voted for it, you lecture the rest of us about it, you obviously believe in it – now live with it on your own doorstep.

Far from mere politicking, the idea demands the bare minimum of political integrity – for politicians and voters alike. Democracy works best when the electorate understands that their choices have consequences. ‘Virtue-signalling’ meanwhile, that favoured indoor sport of the metropolitan Left, is designed specifically to reward the signaller while costing him precisely nothing. A rainbow flag on a social media profile, a ‘refugees welcome’ hashtag, or a solemn dinner-party declaration that Britain is a “nation of immigrants”, rarely come with the danger that such views will be tested in court.

The fight over “buffer zone” legislation in New York City entered a new phase on Wednesday, weeks after Mayor Zohran Mamdani vetoed a bill allowing police to limit protests around “educational facilities.”

Mamdani and other detractors of the initial, highly contested bill said that it would chill free speech, particularly affecting pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses. Its proponents said they would try to flip enough members of the City Council to override Mamdani’s veto.

Now, they may have reached a compromise: On Wednesday, City Council Speaker Julie Menin announced a revised version of the bill that excludes colleges and universities from the educational facilities subject to protest limits.

In an interview, Council Member Eric Dinowitz, who introduced the legislation Mamdani vetoed, said the new bill’s language was “slightly tweaked” so it could get “more broad support” from city lawmakers.

“There were some members who were uncomfortable with the ‘educational facility’ piece, so we targeted it towards early childhood centers, pre-K and K-to-12 schools,” Dinowitz said about the new version, called the Schools Safe Access bill.

That was the case on Monday afternoon as three “credentialed” journalists showed up to cover the Luigi Mangione trial in New York and revealed that they were happy he allegedly shot and killed UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson.

The self-described “Mangionistas”—and dedicated fans of democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani—were unrepentant in their embrace of assassinations as a reasonable form of political action.

They not only reveled in Thompson’s death, they also took shots at his family too.

“F— Brian Thompson,” said a woman who the New York Daily News identified as Ashley Rojas based on the press credentials dangling from her neck. “That’s all I want to say. F— Brian Thompson. F— his mom.”

Lena Weissbrot, who appeared to be dressed up as a cross between Beetlejuice and Luigi, but the one from the Mario Bros., said that Thompson’s son was better off with his father dead.

“His children are better off without him. They need to learn to not be like their dad. And enjoy the blood money, kids,” she said.

Israeli forces have intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla, a fleet of over 50 so-called ‘selfie yachts’ claiming to carry humanitarian aid and hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists.

The interception occurred in broad daylight in international waters, approximately 250 nautical miles off the coast of Cyprus.

According to reports, around 40 vessels were seized and hundreds of activists, engaged in a self-styled attempt to break the maritime blockade of Gaza, were detained, with plans to deport them from the Israeli port of Ashdod.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the naval operation for neutralizing a malicious plan, while Israel’s foreign ministry dismissed the mission as a deliberate provocation meant to obstruct U.S. president Donald Trump’s peace plan, claiming the flotilla carried no actual aid.

The raid appears to have angered some of Israel’s international critics. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdo?an condemned the interception as piracy, and Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin called it absolutely unacceptable.

Notably, Dr. Margaret Connolly, sister of Ireland’s President Catherine Connolly, is among those detained, further provoking the Irish government, which itself faces widespread allegations of antisemitism.

Prime Minister Rob Jetten has responded by condemning “intimidation, violence, and vandalism” during the demonstrations, but his remarks drew criticism for failing to address why many residents are protesting in the first place.

For years, the European Union has presented itself as a global defender of privacy and personal data rights. But a joint investigation by media outlets in the UK, Germany, and Greece claims that Europol, the EU police agency based in The Hague, operated parallel systems for storing and analysing data for years. Those systems allegedly contained huge amounts of personal information, including data on citizens with no criminal record or proven connection to criminal activity.

The issue highlights a growing tension inside the EU itself: the push for stronger preventive security based on mass data collection, alongside repeated promises to protect fundamental rights and personal privacy.

At the centre of the investigation is a system known as the Computer Forensic Network (CFN). Created in 2012, it was designed to process large amounts of digital material linked to criminal investigations. Its original role was relatively limited: storing and filtering information before transferring it into Europol’s official systems.

But the November 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris changed the situation dramatically.

Illegal immigration detected at the European Union’s external borders fell by 40% between January and April 2026. On the West African route, which connects with the Canary Islands, the decline reached 78%.

On paper, the figure appears to point to a significant shift after years of growing migratory pressure, but Frontex data only measures irregular crossings detected at specific border points. It does not measure the total immigration to Europe.

The distinction is more important than it may seem. Frontex counts interceptions or detected crossings. The agency itself notes that the same person may appear multiple times in different records and that the figures only concern external borders and specific routes. The decline therefore indicates that fewer entries are being detected on those corridors, not that Europe is receiving fewer foreign arrivals overall.

The Israeli military began intercepting several boats on Monday morning that are part of a flotilla attempting to break the Gaza blockade.

More than 50 vessels departed from the port in Marmaris last week in what the organizers of the Global Sumud Flotilla described as the final leg of their journey to Gaza’s shores.

The organization’s livestream showed activists aboard several vessels putting on life jackets and raising their hands before a boat carrying troops approached. Israeli troops wearing tactical gear boarded the ship, and the livestream abruptly ended. Many of the ships are currently off the coast of Cyprus.

An hour prior to the interception, Israel’s Foreign Ministry called activists to “change course and turn back immediately.”

“Once again, a provocation for the sake of provocation: another so-called “humanitarian aid flotilla” with no humanitarian aid,” the Foreign Ministry posted on X. The Israeli military declined to comment on the ongoing operation.

Five years after the United States moved to specifically ban Uyghur forced labor, it remains the largest system of state-imposed forced labor in the world – and it is larger than ever. Our research found that China recorded more than 3 million labor transfers of Uyghurs and other ethnic groups in 2025. This was the highest figure on record and a year-on-year increase, despite the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA), which was meant to curb the practice. China’s silicon solar industry, which has lobbied for years to preserve its access to the U.S. market, remains an active participant in it.

Incline Village on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe has seen an influx of ultra-wealthy Californians fleeing the state’s proposed billionaires tax.

Silicon Valley billionaires like Google co-founder Sergey Brin, SpaceX investor Steve Jurvetson, and Naveen Rao, with Unconventional AI, have recently moved to the Nevada bordertown on the north shore of Lake Tahoe ahead of a proposed “billionaire tax” in the state.

“Our primary market is Californians seeking tax refuge in Nevada and people buying second homes,” Cole Mizak, a top luxury real estate broker in the area told The Post.

One of the saddest thing about the Obama and Biden Administrations is how they renormalized bias. By the end of the George W. Bush Administration discrimination on the basis of race, of bigotry was on life support. No, it wasn’t entirely gone, but it was fading away. For most people the important question was not “what color are you?” It was “can you do the job? It was glorious. When I dealt with a co-worker I did not wonder whether they got their position because of the color of their skin. They got it because they could perform.

For Obama and Biden, that was a bug, not a feature. Both were grifters, race-hustlers. If bias faded away, they lost their grift. They began stoking the fires of discrimination and disparagement; dividing us not by the content of our character, but by the color of our skin. I saw it growing during the first years of the Obama Administration. Unprincipled people – especially at government contractors – began using accusations of bias as a means of clotheslining career rivals.

Were you in competition for a position or promotion with one of them? Anonymous complaints would be made against you on the ethics hotline accusing you of racism. It did not matter if the accusation was baseless or distorted. The accused went through an inquisition. Even if you knew who was doing it, you could not confront the individual. That would be retaliation.

By the middle of the Biden Administration, as far as the government went, race was the marker by which people were assigned jobs. It did not matter how incompetent someone was. What mattered was how they filled the grievance matrix. One only has to look at Biden’s choices for Vice-President and Supreme Court Justices to realize how pervasive – and pernicious – the grievance matrix had become.

Checking multiple boxes on the grievance matrix was also a marvelous shield against consequences. No one dared investigate or accuse those with the right national origin, religion, and skin color of criminality or even incompetence. If you did, the accusations were treated a proof of systemic racism against the accused. Instead, in the new race-based justice system the accuser would be investigated for thought-crime, declared a bigot.

First of all, you know, good luck with the law of banning masks. Federal law always trumps state and local law. And while threats are up over 8,000%, masks is a non-starter, so good luck enforcing that.

Second thing is, you talk about New York. You know, I met with Governor Hochul a couple months ago, and I told her about what happened in Minnesota, that, you know, we were able to draw some resources out of Minnesota because the local jails cooperated with us.

And I told her the same thing, because I knew this legislation was coming. I said, Look, you end cooperation in the jails, we’re going to have to send more agents to do the job, because now rather than one agent arresting one bad guy in the jail, which is safer for the agent, safer for the alien, safer for the community, of course, you’re going to release him. Now we got to send a whole team, six or seven agents, to go find him. So it’s going to re- it’s going to result more agents in the community.

Totally briefed on the whole thing, but she decided to go ahead and do it anyways. Well, I made a statement that we’re going to send more agents to New York. We have to as a response to this to go arrest those public safety threats.

I also told her there’s going to be two things you [she] may not like.

Number one, in addition to more agents in your communities, that’s going to mean, one, that when we find the bad guy, and we usually do, they may be with others, that weren’t a criminal target, but they’re in the country illegally. Well, guess what? We’re going to arrest them, too. We’re not going to turn a blind eye to illegal immigration, which means there’ll be more collateral arrests because of your decision to force us in the community.

And, second of all, part of her legislation prevents ICE from leasing beds, from sheriffs across the state, which we use a lot of those beds.

An Environmental Protection Agency lawyer and union leader has signed a dissent letter opposing President Donald Trump’s policy at the agency and has posted on social media attacking EPA Director Lee Zeldin, but appears to still be employed there.

This activity raises questions as to whether she might be a “deep state” actor, working to undermine Trump’s policies from within the administration.

Nicole Cantello serves as president of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 704, the EPA’s labor union. A verified LinkedIn profile lists her as an attorney at the EPA.
