Oxford Union President Said Hamas Would Be ‘Lauded as Heroes’

3rd June 2026

The Telegraph (UKO.

The Oxford Union president said Hamas would be “lauded as heroes” and claimed that their actions were “proportional”.

Arwa Elrayess also suggested that it was “quite rich” for people to “act shocked” by the October 7 atrocities, given the harsh treatment of Palestinians by Israel, according to leaked messages.

She made the remarks in a private WhatsApp group of around 100 students who were about to take up places at Oxford to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

Ms Elrayess faced calls to resign as president of the prestigious debating society on Tuesday night, and Oxford University was urged to launch an investigation.

It is the latest scandal to engulf the union, coming just months after its previous president was ousted following comments he made that appeared to celebrate the shooting of Charlie Kirk, the Right-wing US influencer.

Henry Nowak Protesters Throw Bricks and Bottles at Police

3rd June 2026

The Telegraph (UK).

Protesters have thrown bottles, bricks and wheelie bins at riot police in the wake of the murder of Henry Nowak.

Tommy Robinson, Laurence Fox and other far-Right figures led the protests, which started outside Southampton Central police station on Tuesday night.

In videos shared on social media, protesters can be seen chasing, goading and cornering police on a residential street in the St Denys area, near where the murder took place, while projectiles slam into the officers’ helmets.

Mr Nowak’s killing has prompted accusations of “two-tier policing” after body-worn footage showed police handcuffing the 18-year-old while the Sikh killer who stabbed him five times was treated as a victim.

In Nantucket, there is an interesting conflict between churches after the Nantucket Unitarian Universalists (NUU) canceled its traditional celebration. In a letter from the church and the Rev. Said ‘whiteness’ appears to be in remission.

Hit-and-Run, Homicide, Assault, Robbery: Congress Probes Effects of California Sanctuary Policies

2nd June 2026

Read it.

Pointing to rising crime rates and a crash that killed an 11-year-old boy last December, leaders of the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday asked law enforcement leaders in two major California cities to provide information on sanctuary policies they say shield criminal illegal aliens.

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and two subcommittee chairmen—Republican Reps. Tom McClintock and Darrell Issa of California—signed letters to the police chiefs and sheriffs of San Diego and San Francisco.

“California’s pro-illegal alien policies shield criminals from accountability. In late November 2025, an illegal alien from Mexico hit and killed 11-year-old Aiden Antonio Torres De Paz as the child ‘was playing with another child and chasing his soccer ball at the end of a residential street outside his home,’” says the letter to San Diego County Sheriff Kelly Martinez, quoting a news account.

In December, Hector Amador Balderas, 44, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, reportedly pleaded guilty to felony hit-and-run leading to De Paz’s death in Escondido, California, outside San Diego. Balderas was previously removed from the United States four times, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Mamdani-Backed Congressional Candidate Deleted Posts Calling to Seize Private Property, Abolish Police, Borders, Prisons

2nd June 2026

CNN, the fluffer of the Narrative Media.

Darializa Avila Chevalier, a democratic socialist congressional candidate endorsed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, deleted a previous Twitter account that included thousands of posts and reposts expressing support for abolishing police, prisons and borders, as well as seizing private property and nationalizing major industries and calling into question Israel’s right to exist.

Avila Chevalier, a 32-year-old investigator at a public defender’s office in New York City and doctoral student, has emerged as one of the most prominent left-wing challengers in the country after Mamdani endorsed her bid to unseat longtime Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat in New York’s 13th Congressional District.

But the posts from her since-deleted account from over the last decade have drawn scrutiny amid her high-profile challenge of Espaillat, a five-term incumbent and chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. That primary, scheduled for June 23, has become a closely watched proxy battle between the Democratic Party’s establishment and its ascendant democratic-socialist wing, with Mamdani’s endorsement last week elevating the race’s national profile.

The guilty flee when no man pursueth.

The Accreditation Racket: How to Return Standards to College Accreditation

2nd June 2026

Read it.

On the campaign trail, then-candidate Donald Trump called college accreditation a “secret weapon” that he planned to use in his efforts to reform universities.

Since then, the mainstream media, including USA Today and Bloomberg, along with a left-leaning interest group representing faculty, the American Association of University Professors, responded to the president’s commentary, expressing surprise that reform was even needed for the quality-assurance guarantees that postsecondary accreditors provide to universities.

Yet therein lies the problem: College accreditors have decidedly not guaranteed quality and routinely bury colleges in paperwork. Accreditors have foisted ideological conformity on colleges and universities through the accrediting process, becoming gatekeepers over the kinds of courses and ideas allowed in the halls of academic buildings.

A British-style university (degree in three years, focus on classics and mathematics) could not get accredited in the U.S. today.

Net Zero & Statism Deliver Stagnation: How Interventionism Undermined Growth in the UK & Canada

2nd June 2026

Read it.

Governments are terrible at picking winners and even worse at choosing losers. Net zero and interventionist “Keynesian” policies in Canada and the UK have proven that government intervention has created a worse outcome than anyone would have expected. The result is higher costs, distorted incentives, and weakened productivity growth, with increased dependency on fossil fuels to attend to peak demand, exactly what Austrian economists predicted.

What has been sold as a recipe for prosperity and “green growth” has in practice eroded affordability while failing to deliver stronger, sustainable expansion.

It is not surprising to see that the world’s examples of green interventionism, the UK and Canada, have become economic failures. Years ago, some argued that these policies needed time to prove their success. Now, it is not even debatable that the stagnation and recession in the UK and Canada are self-inflicted.

Net zero in Canada and the UK is not a single policy but an entire regime of targets, regulations, limits, subsidies, and new bureaucratic requirements.

California Passes Bill Declaring Death-by-Algorithm to 3D-Printed Ghost Guns

1st June 2026

The Gegister.

California has passed a controversial bill requiring 3D printer manufacturers to build in controls that block the production of firearm components – a move drawing sharp pushback from technologists and privacy advocates.

Lawmakers approved Assembly Bill 2047 on May 26. The bill requires manufacturers to embed a “firearm blueprint detection algorithm” in every model by July 2028. Printers that don’t support this algorithm would be banned from sale sale in California.

The bill must still pass through the California State Senate, and will pass through California governor Gavin Newsom’s desk if it clears the Senate. Newsom can then either sign it into law, or veto it.

What these algorithms will look like is not yet known, but the Department of Justice, and any other state agencies that get roped into the task of developing them, must publish written guidance on performance standards by January 2028.

The bill sets two core performance standards: the algorithm must block so-called “ghost gun” components – untraceable 3D-printed firearm parts – with a high degree of reliability, and the safeguards must be robust enough to resist circumvention even by technically skilled users.

Both of which requiements are impossible. Yet another reason not to live or work in California.

“Well-Funded” NGO Machine Behind Newark Anti-ICE Chaos; Bessent Signals Nonprofit Crackdown

Is the Government Still Funding the Immigration Industrial Complex? Trump Wants Answers

31st May 2026

The Foundry.

Is the federal government still funneling taxpayer dollars to some of the leftist activist groups that called the shots during President Joe Biden’s administration?

The Trump White House is asking federal agencies to investigate past and potentially continuing funding for a host of nonprofits, many of which are associated with aggressive promotion of leftist causes.

On May 13, the White House Office of Management and Budget issued a budget data request seeking comprehensive information on the federal tax dollars supporting 49 nonprofits.

In the document, OMB asks each federal agency to include all grants, cooperative agreements, loans, contracts, and other monetary awards, even if the provision of the funding is under litigation.

The request focuses on fiscal years 2024, 2025, and estimated obligations in fiscal year 2026.

A person familiar with OMB’s request told the Daily Signal that the request might capture data not accessible on USASpending.gov, the publicly-available database of federal grants and contracts.

The list includes many of the leftist activist groups that sent staff and policy ideas to the Biden administration, influencing the federal government in a “woke” direction.

The Nocebo Effect: The Real PsyOp Behind Fake Pandemic

31st May 2026

Read it.

When authorities tell you to be afraid of a virus, your mind can make symptoms real, even when no pathogen exists. This is not conspiracy theory; it’s documented science, and it has been weaponized against the public for decades. The nocebo effect — the evil twin of the placebo — is the key to understanding how pandemics are manufactured as psychological operations. The word “nocebo” means “I will harm” in Latin, and that’s exactly what this phenomenon does: it turns negative expectations into real physical harm.

The idea that a suggestion can make you sick is as old as medicine itself, yet it has been deliberately ignored by the scientific establishment because it threatens the entire foundation of the infectious disease model. Research on the nocebo effect in the context of COVID-19 shows that the pandemic produced a “nocebodemic effect” characterized by mass negative interpretation of health services and medical treatments. When combined with the fear narrative pumped out by governments and media, this creates a perfect storm of psychogenic illness that requires no actual virus to produce symptoms. The institutions that profit from sickness have learned to weaponize this effect on a scale never seen before.

Seattle to Declare “State of Emergency” to Protect Transgender Refugees?

31st May 2026

Read it.

The ultimate claim to victimhood is the claim that a group of people are “refugees” from mass persecution or “genocide.” The political left covets this victim status more than anything else because, within first world liberal societies, refugees have immediate political capital and access to easy money. Within every leftist narrative there is an agenda for power and a life without adult responsibility.

It is perhaps ironic that thousands of progressive activists and LGBT advocates are leaving red states over imaginary oppression after they spent years attacking conservatives for escaping blue states over very real medical tyranny. At least conservatives never called themselves “refugees.”

Leftists specifically believe their rights are being violated in red states because conservative governments won’t allow them to mutilate their children with hormone therapy and sex change surgeries. This nightmare trend, which is increasingly proven by science to have a detrimental effect on the minds and health of the people who undergo gender therapies, is still heavily protected in leftist havens like Seattle.

Seattle’s Foolish Battle Against Reality

30th May 2026

Read it.

Looks like another “Summer of Love” is setting up for the progressively virtuous city of Seattle. The weather’s improving and the bullets are flying. It’s not exactly what Irving Berlin had in mind when he wrote, Nothing but blue skies from now on. On the other hand, if you inhabit Bluesky, the leftist social media platform, your attitude about Seattle’s current crime wave is likely, nothing to see here.

Residents of Seattle’s Aurora Avenue corridor are particularly upset after a recent gun battle between, presumably, rival gang members. They fired as many as forty rounds at each other from opposite sides of Aurora Avenue so it must have been a pretty serious beef. And this is how beefs are commonly settled in lightly policed, modern progressive cities where they just don’t want to have to put any more black and brown people in prison. So the bullets fly and innocent bystanders best get out of the way.

Remember the last “Summer of Love?” Why, it seems like only yesterday. 2020 it was, in those heady days and weeks following the demise of George Floyd when, despite draconian COVID restrictions, people were nonetheless given carte blanche access to the streets to gather in vast numbers to “protest,” as well as to vandalize, topple statues, burn, loot and assault, all in the name of a useless thug who wasn’t white. And it was then that Seattle’s famed autonomous zone was established, first known as CHAZ, then shortly after as CHOP.

ICE Detention Facility in Newark, New Jersey Under Siege

For the past several days, ICE agents and Antifa affiliated protesters have clashed outside the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark, New Jersey. The rioting protesters have blocked the entrance, stopping vehicles from entering the facility. Multiple trucks can be seen in this video at a standstill.

I’m going to ask the question again: Why Doesn’t the FBI Stop this violent, organized, national activity?

How can a group within America openly threaten police, use violence against police, throw Molotov cocktails, bricks and explosive fireworks at police. Use batons, shields, bats and physical violence against police and federal law enforcement; destroy vehicles, set cars on fire, destroy property, trash and block the streets and create chaos, completely without consequence?

The Fragile Balance Between Compassion and Civilization

28th May 2026

Read it.

What is unfolding across parts of Europe, particularly in the UK under Prime Minister Keir Starmer, should serve as a warning to every Western democracy wrestling with questions of immigration, national identity, social cohesion, and the limits of political tolerance.

A nation can be compassionate without becoming careless. It can welcome newcomers while still expecting assimilation, civic responsibility, and respect for the laws and traditions that hold a society together. But when governments become so consumed with appearing morally virtuous that they neglect order, border enforcement, public safety, and cultural confidence, the social fabric eventually begins to fray.

Across Europe, many citizens increasingly feel that they are watching this happen in real time.

Seattle Residents Forced to Barricade Their Streets to Protect From Gun Violence

27th May 2026

Read it.

Fed up with years of gun violence and repeated shootings near Aurora Avenue, some residents in North Seattle have started installing their own street barricades in an effort to protect their neighborhoods, KOMO News writes.

Neighbors living near North 97th, 98th, and 102nd streets recently placed large planter boxes, piles of dirt, and gravel across parts of residential roads that connect to Aurora Avenue North. The goal, residents say, is to make it harder for shooters to speed through side streets during violent incidents linked to ongoing prostitution and human trafficking activity in the area.

Tensions escalated again over the weekend after another shooting near Aurora Avenue N and N 98th Street. Seattle police said officers found around 40 shell casings at the scene after multiple people exchanged gunfire. Security footage reportedly captured several seconds of rapid shooting, with bullets hitting nearby apartments, homes, and parked cars. In one recent case, a stray bullet entered a family’s home and came to rest near the bassinet of a 6-week-old baby.

Doing the Math: UC Faculty Urges Return to Standardized Testing After Shocking Decline in Skills

27th May 2026

Read it.

Years ago, I wrote a column denouncing the decision of the University of California system to drop standardized testing in the cause of greater racial diversity. Now, hundreds of UC mathematics faculty have called for a return to such testing after reports showing a thirtyfold increase in students with math skills below high school level.

As written earlier, the University of California system was an early supporter of this disastrous move.

It was heralded as a way to preserve diversity after voters in California repeatedly rejected race-based admissions and the Supreme Court appeared ready to bar such practices (commonly proven with reference to standardized test differentials among applicants).

Now, many professors in the California system have come to the same conclusion as some of us who denounced the move years ago. They have witnessed the drop in academic skills and abilities among incoming students.

These tests not only have the most significant predictive value for performance but also play an important role in the advancement of minority students. Former University of California President Janet Napolitano, however, overrode those conclusions.

Hasan Piker Says Quiet Part Out Loud, Maps Radical Left NGO Network to China-Based Marxist Financier

27th May 2026

Read it.

Far-left Turkish-American millionaire and Twitch streamer Hasan Piker appears to have committed an operational-security mistake by publicly identifying American Marxist tech financier Neville Roy Singham, who has reportedly been living in China and has been linked by The New York Times to CCP-aligned propaganda networks, as a major financier of pro-Marxist revolutionary NGOs operating inside the U.S.

On Sunday, Piker discussed the U.S. Treasury’s “Requests for Information” subpoena related to his “humanitarian trip” to Cuba with pro-China CodePink cofounder Susan Medea Benjamin. That story was first published by Fox News’ lead NGO investigator, Asra Nomani, on Saturday.

Piker pointed out that the Treasury likely has a broader target, is “probably Singham” and “his operation,” naming PSL (Party for Socialism and Liberation), ANSWER Coalition, Code Pink, and “anything that he has ever financed.”

He then acknowledged that Roy Singham lives in China and has been “a funding vehicle” for political movements and activism in the U.S.

We’re sure Singham network comrades are absolutely furious with Piker because, as NGO investigator Stu Smith wrote on X, “Hasan didn’t refute the network. He mapped it.”

Brussels Eyes Wealth Taxes as Europe’s Fiscal Crisis Spirals

26th May 2026

Read it.

A fatal fiscal dynamic has become entrenched across the European Union. In nearly every member state, public spending is accelerating at all levels — from municipalities and social insurance systems all the way up to the European Commission — while the private economy at best stagnates and its industrial core sectors visibly erode.

This dangerous economic imbalance, in which a shrinking private sector is forced to finance a continuously expanding state apparatus, is already producing fiscal consequences visible in the bond markets. Interest rates have been rising steadily for years, making debt servicing increasingly expensive, while the financing needs of public budgets continue to grow under the ruling ideology of an all-encompassing state. This widening fiscal gap is fueling political appetites for higher taxation — a destructive race among parties to squeeze taxpayers at every level has begun.

And naturally, when it comes to fleecing European taxpayers, the European Commission cannot be absent. Brussels is currently preparing its seven-year budget framework, set to exceed €2 trillion beginning in 2028.

A Collapsing Europe Shows Where Democrat Policies Will Take America

25th May 2026

Read it.

Immediately before WWII, the biggest threat to Europe was Soviet socialism.

During WWII, the biggest threat was the open socialism (in the form of fascism) in Germany and Italy.

After WWII, during the Cold War, the biggest threat, once again, was Soviet socialism. Nevertheless, the post-war Europeans embraced socialism and touted its success, never realizing that it worked only because the U.S. paid their defense costs and absorbed the costs of wars around the world.

When the Soviet Union collapsed, and America’s defense spending waned, the true costs of socialism began to be clear: The economies became sluggish; the birthrates collapsed, necessitating importing third world, usually Muslim, labor; the social services started imploding, especially because those same third worlders drained the systems, despite never having contributed to them; soft on crime policies destroyed civilized society; and the brain rot of socialism saw Europe embrace the madcap, self-destructive idea of Net Zero carbon output, which has seen Europe retreat from the modern world into a cold, dark, pre-modern time.

All of this is what today’s Marxist Democrats want for America.

“Net migration is now at 171,000, down from a high of 944,000 under the Conservatives,” added Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, claiming the government had “restored order” after the unprecedented figures under the last Conservative administration.

Yet, a glance at the broader figures shows the reported number isn’t as impressive as the government would have you believe.

United Nations Resolution Demands the USA Pay Everyone Elses Climate Damage Claims

24th May 2026

Read it.

The Secretary-General said it makes clear Member States’ responsibility to protect their own people from what is an “escalating climate crisis”.

The resolution drawn up by Vanuatu – a Pacific island nation on the frontline of the climate crisis, and several other countries – was adopted after intense discussion including multiple proposed amendments with 141 votes in favour, eight against and 28 abstentions.

The Court also ruled that if States breach these obligations, they are legally responsible and may be legally required to stop the wrongful conduct, offer guarantees that it won’t happen again, and make full reparation, depending on the circumstances.

Although the ICJ’s advisory opinions are not binding, they carry significant legal and moral authority – helping to clarify and develop international law by defining States’ legal obligations.

Burnham’s ‘Death Tax’ Threatens Millions of Families

24th May 2026

The Telegraph (UK).

Millions more families could be dragged into paying a “death tax” on their loved ones’ estates under Andy Burnham’s plans to fund social care.

The Greater Manchester mayor supports scrapping the existing inheritance tax and replacing it with a new levy on assets to fund a National Care Service.

Mr Burnham, who is preparing to oust Sir Keir Starmer as Prime Minister if he wins the Makerfield by-election on June 18, has previously insisted that the wealthiest would contribute the most.

Burnham Set to Bring in £35bn Land Tax

23rd May 2026

The Telegraph (UK).

Andy Burnham is set to bring in a land value tax if he becomes Britain’s next prime minister.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester, who is expected to launch a leadership challenge against Sir Keir Starmer if he returns to Westminster, told The Telegraph he believed land was “under-taxed” and he wanted to introduce a new levy.

While he has vowed to respect Labour’s 2024 manifesto, Mr Burnham has not ruled out campaigning for a land tax at the next general election.

Time to leave.

CEO Saves His Failing Company by Firing Entire HR Department

22nd May 2026

Read it.

HR departments were originally created as a means of monitoring compliance with state and federal laws to avoid liability. In many cases this revolved around “sexual harassment” or “discrimination” in the workplace, but it ended up becoming a progressive crusade to make women, LGBT and minority groups a protected class of workers that are difficult to fire because HR is more concerned with lawsuits.

This lack of accountability based on gender and minority privilege reached its peak during the height of the woke era and DEI. Companies were rife with useless employees who did little work while raking in six-figure salaries.

Today, the situation is changing rapidly. A wave of layoffs has hit the white collar sector since 2025. The end of DEI is leading to mass cuts which are largely affecting women, with minority women making up the bulk of the job losses.

One company CEO, Ryan Breslow of Bolt, saved his company from implosion by a simple change which allowed him to more easily make a number of other changes: He fired his entire HR department.

Germany Spent Nearly €25 Billion on Migration in 2025

22nd May 2026

Read it.

Germany spent €24.8 billion on migration-related costs in 2025, according to the federal government’s “Refugee Cost Report,” cited by the finance ministry. Although this represented a decline of €3.2 billion compared to the previous year, the overall financial burden remained high.

A large share of federal spending went toward refugee and integration courses, as well as fixed payments to states and municipalities for asylum seekers. This included a lump sum of €7,500 per initial asylum application, transferred to the states through adjustments to value-added tax revenues. In 2025, advance payments totaled around €1.25 billion, though the federal government expects to reclaim approximately €250 million from the states afterward.

Despite these contributions, several federal states argued that their actual migration-related costs far exceeded federal reimbursements. Bavaria said its support for municipalities covering accommodation, care, and integration “significantly exceeds” the federal compensation payments. Hamburg also called for increased federal funding.

The report highlighted rising costs linked to unaccompanied minor migrants. In North Rhine-Westphalia alone, spending on accommodation and care for unaccompanied minors reached around €667 million in 2025, an increase of roughly €320 million compared to the previous year. State authorities warned that a rapid reduction in costs was unlikely because of the continuing high number of arrivals. Hesse also reported higher spending, with costs rising by around €30 million to €234.9 million.

“Marylanders Are Voting With Their Feet”: Johns Hopkins Finds Blue State Exodus to Persist for Years

22nd May 2026

Read it.

A new Johns Hopkins University survey shows that more than half of Baltimore respondents expect to move out of their current neighborhoods within three years, as the one-party-ruled state of Democratic Party queens and kings has failed taxpayers on affordability, law and order, and other basic issues commonly standard in red states.

The Hopkins survey, conducted from September to November 2024, found that 42% of Baltimore City residents want to leave the city entirely. Of those, 27% expect to stay somewhere else in Maryland, while 15% expect to leave the state, according to the Baltimore Sun.

The Great Sort proceeds apace.

Labour Prepares £1bn Stealth Tax on Family Holidays

22nd May 2026

The Telegraph (UK).

Labour is planning a £1bn tax grab on family holidays even as Rachel Reeves unveils summer cost of living support for households.

HMRC officials are drawing up plans to impose VAT of 20pc on top of the fees that airports charge airlines to use their runways and terminals.

These fees are typically passed on to customers in full, meaning the move would heap more costs on holidaymakers and businesses. At Heathrow, the measures could add almost £5 to the current standard charge of about £24.

One airline industry insider said the Labour plan amounted to a “stealth tax” on families at a time when the cost of living crisis meant many people were already struggling to afford a holiday.

The Telegraph also understands that ministers are exploring the possibility of backdating the tax by as many as four years – the maximum permitted under current legislation.

California’s $20 Minimum Wage Killed 18,000 Restaurant Jobs; New Study Finds

21st May 2026

Read it.

Perhaps the greatest example that good policymaking intentions go awry is the minimum wage. Proponents of increasing the minimum wage argue that doing so will help the poor.

If we could snap our fingers and make the poor suddenly rich, there would be no reason to object. Unfortunately, in a world of scarce resources, this is not a possibility. The minimum wage actually tends to make many poor workers worse off and increases unemployment. A recent study on California minimum wage increases demonstrates that fact (yet again).

Seattle’s Socialist Mayor Now Panicking Over Businesses Leaving

21st May 2026

Read it.

Seattle’s socialist-in-chief is no longer laughing about chasing away businesses and wealthy residents. But the attitude adjustment may be too little, too late.

Just a few weeks ago, Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson infamously giggled when asked if she was concerned about wealthy residents fleeing Seattle because of her policies.

“I think the claims that millionaires are going to leave our state are, like, super overblown. And if—the ones that leave, like, bye,” Wilson said to applause at Seattle University.

As I wrote at the time, this flippant attitude toward a potential wealth exodus was remarkably foolish.

Businesses and the “rich” were already leaving Seattle, but hitting the accelerator on leftist policies is causing a full-blown economic meltdown. The result will be a loss of hundreds of millions—likely even billions—of dollars in future tax revenue.

And it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that a political program based on taxing the rich doesn’t even begin to work if there are few rich to tax. But here we are. Reality is setting in.

Now for the consequences.

FA, FO.

Reform’s Radical Agenda

21st May 2026

Read it.

Earlier this month, Reform UK, Nigel Farage’s latest political incarnation, proposed one of the sharpest political ideas of modern times: to site new migrant detention centres in areas that vote heavily for the Green Party, which famously advocates for a “world without borders”. Likely locations include the historic Green Party stronghold of Brighton, but after last week’s local election success the list could easily extend to newly-won councils in Norwich, Hastings, as well as the London boroughs of Hackney, Lewisham and Waltham Forest. This is nothing short of a masterstroke in political simplicity: holding people to the professed beliefs they routinely foist on others.

The genius of such a policy lies in its symmetry. For years we have been told that opposing mass, uncontrolled migration is “racist”, “far-right” and “morally bankrupt”. Those who preach this gospel however, have customarily done so from the safety of low-crime, high-property-value postcodes, where the practical consequences of their ideology are someone else’s problem. Reform’s proposal flips the script. It says: you voted for it, you lecture the rest of us about it, you obviously believe in it – now live with it on your own doorstep.

Far from mere politicking, the idea demands the bare minimum of political integrity – for politicians and voters alike. Democracy works best when the electorate understands that their choices have consequences. ‘Virtue-signalling’ meanwhile, that favoured indoor sport of the metropolitan Left, is designed specifically to reward the signaller while costing him precisely nothing. A rainbow flag on a social media profile, a ‘refugees welcome’ hashtag, or a solemn dinner-party declaration that Britain is a “nation of immigrants”, rarely come with the danger that such views will be tested in court.
