It’s especially easy, in part, because the dead can’t defend themselves. The old admonition not to speak ill of the dead came about for a reason.

All of this came to mind recently on the heels of David French’s johnny-come-lately embrace of hereditary racial moral culpability. In short: he has decided that the majority of Americans are complicit in the racial sins of the past primarily on the basis of sharing the same skin color as some of the perpetrators from days gone by. If that rationale comes across to you as flimsy and outrageously unjust, well, you would not be David French.

No group is more likely to end a friendship over political differences than liberal women – 33 percent responded they stopped a friendship over politics.

Canada is currently undergoing the same orgy of antiwhite fear and loathing as the United States, although, due to the lack of blacks in Canadian history, it’s rationalized as justified by white mistreatment of Amerindians in the past. Ten churches in Alberta were set on fire on Canada Day, July 1, as part of a national nervous breakdown over “unmarked graves” at disused residential schools for Indian students.

While in the U.S. the problems of American Indians in the 21st century have largely been ignored because extroverted blacks vacuum up most of the attention, the Great Awokening in Canada focused upon “First Nations” as its sacralized victims. Public meetings in Canada now begin with ritual incantations that “We acknowledge that we are situated on traditional land of the [insert name here] people.”

This doesn’t mean that white Canadians actually intend to give their property back to the First Nations. But it will be interesting to see how they react once it is clear that this symbolism hasn’t reduced the natives’ alcoholism and anomie.

There is a moment in nearly all post-9/11 thrillers that anyone of a certain generation will be familiar with. It’s the point in the third act of a TV series like 24 or Homeland, or the last mission of video game franchises like Call of Duty,where the whole conspiracy has finally unraveled and the true villain is revealed. And he (it is always a he) turns out to be not an Arab jihadist, or a Russian ultranationalist, but a self-styled American patriot.

These reveals, intended to be shocking, always came off a bit contrived. For a population which experienced an unprecedented terrorist attack within recent memory, it was like living through a real-life version of The Exorcist, only to have the televisual tastemakers divulge that Linda Blair’s character was actually Old Man Withers all along.

One cannot help but get the same sense from the Biden Administration’s recently revealed National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism. We have seen this one before and the whole thing comes off…a little formulaic.
