Journalists need to stop writing “stories” and start monitoring empirical consensus.
This is a bit of a rant, and it’s about a topic that I’m not an expert on, but I do feel strongly about. So, despite the forceful language, please read this knowing that there’s still a fair amount of epistemic humility behind what I’m saying and I’m definitely open to updating my opinion if an expert on journalism or public policy were to have some compelling reason for the Chestertonian fence of the structure of journalistic institutions. Comments sections are the devil’s playground so I don’t have one, but feel free to reach out and if we have a fruitful discussion I’m happy to publish it here.
One of the things that COVID has taught me is that the concept of a “story” in the news media is a relic that needs to be completely re-thought. It is not suited to the challenges of media communication today.
Any journalistic article that doesn’t start out with the facts but starts with an anecdote is not a report but a ‘story’. Feel free to ignore it.

We have followed the story of the FBI raid on James O’Keefe and associates of Project Veritas in a series of posts under the heading “The O’Keefe Project.” The most recent of these posts is dated November 24. The FBI conducted these raids in the style to which we became accustomed in the case of Roger Stone and appears to have followed them up with leaks to its friends at the New York Times.
The New York Times has now published its fifth story on the investigation of O’Keefe et al. in connection with their possession of the diary of Ashley Biden. The otherwise questionable authenticity of the diary can be inferred from the involvement of the FBI. It has somehow become a federal case in the Age of Biden.

On Tuesday, the State Department and the White House drew scrutiny after they disclosed that there were still Americans and legal residents trapped in Afghanistan over three months after President Biden abandoned them there. Yet on Wednesday, when ABC was the only network to cover the ongoing humanitarian crisis there, they failed to mention those Americans.
ABC originally ignored the Tuesday discloser. And as NewsBusters reported, World News Tonight, along with CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News, spent a combined four minutes and six seconds covering holiday shipping and carrier deadlines.

Here we go again. The latest scheduled round of minimum-wage increases, to $15 per hour ($14 for small companies), starts Jan. 1. It hasn’t even gone into effect, yet calls are going out for a $18 wage. Why not $28? Or $58? Or $118?
Joe Sanberg, identified by the Sacramento Bee as a “Los Angeles anti-poverty activist and entrepreneur,” is working to put on the November 2022 ballot an initiative that would boost the minimum wage to $18 by 2025. Actually, a real, “anti-poverty activist” is anyone who favors America’s free-market system that has produced all the wealth in this country, including that used to help the poor.

Dozens of fragile libs have canceled their subscriptions to the Atlantic after the storied media outlet published a guest column by Washington Free Beacon alum Matthew Walther.
The libs were triggered by Walther’s suggestion that “outside the world inhabited by the professional and managerial classes in a handful of major metropolitan areas, many, if not most, Americans are leading their lives as if COVID is over.” As anticipated, the professional and managerial classes seethed with rage on Twitter, aghast at the Atlantic for daring to publish Walther’s “nihilistic, genocidal” opinion.

John Stossel.
I’ve reported how Facebook censors me.
Now I’ve learned that they also censor environmentalist Michael Shellenberger, statistician Bjorn Lomborg and former New York Times columnist John Tierney.
Facebook’s “fact-checkers” claim we spread “misinformation.”
In my new video, Tierney argues that the “people guilty of spreading misinformation are Facebook and its fact-checkers.”
He’s right.

The Other McCain faces a conundrum.
The basic problem with David Brooks is that he hasn’t been punched in the face as often as he deserves to be punched in the face.
Which is to say, repeatedly, on a daily basis.
On two occasions, I happened to be at conferences where David Brooks was a speaker, and in both instances, I walked out of the room, overcome by rage, struggling to resist an urge to rush the stage, grab hold of that swine and pummel him until the cops hauled me off to jail.
Don’t hold it in, Stacy, tell us how you really feel.

Politico is upset.
The only people who benefit from ‘swing districts’ are the Narrative Media, who need the political ‘horse race’ in other to garner the attention that is the cornerstone of their business model.
An elected representative doesn’t (popular mythology to the contrary notwithstanding) everybody in that district; he (or she) (or it) only ‘represents’ the people who voted for that representative. (Mouths make noises but we all know the truth.) So the more people vote for a winning candidate, the greater the portion of the electorate is actually ‘represented’ by that candidate.
It is therefore obvious that so-called ‘gerrymandering’ promotes effective democracy, rather than being the moral failing that the Chattering Class would have you believe. Ideally, districts ought to be arranged so that the winning candidate gets as close to 100% as possible. That’s actual democracy in action.
So the next time an outlet like Politico complains about ‘gerrymandering’, know that they are consulting their wallets rather than some abstract principle of good-government.

As day three of jury deliberations in the Kyle Rittenhouse murder trial began, Judge Bruce Schroeder banned MSNBC from his courtroom for the duration of the trial, after an employee claiming to be a producer with the outlet reportedly followed the van taking jurors home on Wednesday evening and was pulled over after running a red light.
“No one from MSNBC news will be permitted in this building … this is an extremely serious matter and will be referred to the proper authorities,” said Schroeder.
Apparently ‘journalists’ think that the rules don’t apply to them.
Earlier this month, a self-described ‘honorary nephew of George Floyd’ identified as Cortez Rice posted a disturbing video threatening to doxx Rittenhouse jurors if they don’t return a guilty verdict.
Totally unrelated, I’m sure.
Mobs have gotten away with threats and coercion so regularly that they feel entitled.

A commission made up of mostly left-leaning figures recommended Monday that the White House counter the spread of disinformation and “dangerous conspiracy theories online.”
The Aspen Institute Commission on Information Disorder released a number of recommendations Monday, which included calling upon the Biden administration to have an “apolitical team” develop a national strategy to tackle the issue.
I wonder if that would include all of the various hoaxes, ‘coup attempts’, and ‘dangers to democracy’ being fomented by the Narrative Media.
