In March, Britain’s Daily Telegraph and GB News channel both reported that the National Museum of Wales would be relabelling a replica of the first steam-powered locomotive, unveiled by its Cornish inventor Richard Trevithick in 1804. Trevithick had no links to slavery, but the amendment has apparently been included anyway as part of the museum’s commitment to “decolonizing” its collection. In a statement defending what it described as the addition of “historical context,” the museum said: “Although there might not be direct links between the Trevithick locomotive and the slave trade, we acknowledge the reality that links to slavery are woven into the warp and weft of Welsh society.”

There are around 150 oil refineries in the U.S., of which one is located in Delaware. It appears to me that Delaware has had only that one refinery for many years. I don’t know whether Delaware has ever had the highest cancer rate in the country. It certainly hasn’t in modern times. Looking at the data, there is no apparent correlation between the presence of oil refineries, or the oil industry generally, in a state and the cancer fatality rate. In particular, I don’t know how oil refineries would give you skin cancer, which is the type Biden had, and I don’t believe that people in Delaware used windshield wipers to clear their windshields of oil slicks from refineries.

Jim Sciutto spread some disinformation on the Tuesday edition of CNN Newsroom on pro-life laws, but not only did he do that, he blamed the laws themselves and not his own lack of basic reading skills for the real world consequences of that disinformation.

Addressing NYU School of Medicine bioethicist Arthur Caplan, Sciutto claimed, “a consequence of how these laws are written, is that even someone with unviable pregnancies, whether it be miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies, they’re struggling to receive treatment in some states, the doctors fearing prosecution, right? Even those though fetuses cannot live, they will not live.”

On Monday’s edition of Amanpour and Company, the PBS and CNN International show found time to cover a topic that virtually nobody cares about: the sex lives of African women. The segment not only found way to shoehorn anti-Dobbs comments, but also embrace polygamy as a perfectly valid type of relationship.

In June 2018, the book Modern American Extremism and Domestic Terrorism published a false and defamatory statement about a living person, copied from a piece of Wikipedia vandalism. The statement was a fabricated quote about Linda Gottfredson, a psychologist known for her opposition to racial affirmative action policies, which compared her views in this area to Nazism. In an article published in the Critic in October 2020, I reported that an original source for this quote does not exist, and that the vandalism had remained in the Wikipedia biography for nearly two years—long enough for an academic book to repeat the hoax.

This was not an isolated case. Wikipedia hoaxes about topics including recently deceased people, South American wildlife, Middle Eastern cuisine, and hair products have all come to be regarded as “accepted knowledge” if they remained on the site for a sufficient period of time, and in many cases the false information was repeated in reputably published books or newspapers. The influence of Wikipedia hoaxes has also extended to papers published in academic journals. For example, a Wikipedia hoax describing a fictitious medical condition known as “glucojasinogen” went on to be discussed in several medical journals as though it were a real condition.

A pro-abortion activist group is urging protesters to quit making references to The Handmaid’s Tale, arguing allusions to the book are insensitive to the oppression of minorities.

Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa) based, as he notes, on a Free Beacon report about the Biden administration’s sale of a million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to China.

Yes, the Biden administration did this, Kessler concedes. Them’s the facts. But three Pinocchios for Grassley and for us, he says, for turning “simple facts” into “something nefarious.” You know, like the fact that China was also supposed to be releasing oil from its reserves in order to ease global fuel prices, according to the White House, but is instead boosting its own reserves by hoarding barrels from our stockpile.

We live in a very bipolar society and one of the most obvious examples of this is the tenacity of masking. The unfortunate truth is that an aerosolized virus particle is so small that the only sure way to prevent an encounter with it is with your own self-contained breathing apparatus. How many scuba suits are you seeing on the streets of New York? Can a surgical mask stop a particle or two? Well, it is certainly possible in the same way that fishnet stockings may prevent some sunburn but not what anyone would call overall effective. Early on there were multiple articles exaggerating the necessity of public masking, none of them particularly convincing or well done but they danced around the truth and pushed their preconceived notions in the name of public health.

The wearing of masks has absolutely nothing to do with COVID – it’s a flag that progressives use to assert their political loyalty to the Narrative. That’s all it is.

A New York Times editorial board member does not seem to think the company’s policy against participating in protests applies to her.

In her July 2 column, Mara Gay wrote that she wants to see all the men she has had sexual relationships with who have since moved on to join her at the next pro-abortion protests. “They’re good men, and I’m happy for them,” Gay writes. “I’d also like to ask: Will I see you at the next protest? Join us.”

Taking Gay at her word means she just admitted to violating New York Times corporate policy, which forbids staff from attending any “march or rally in support of public causes or movements.” Neither the New York Times nor Gay responded to a request for comment.

Over the last week, we have been barraged with stories about a 10-year-old rape victim in Ohio who was unable to obtain an abortion in that state and had to cross the line into Indiana to terminate her pregnancy. If you Google “10 year old abortion Ohio,” you get 33,100,000 results. The story is everywhere, internationally.

But did it happen? It turns out that the story originated with an abortionist who is also a media figure, seemingly working full-time to promote abortion. And if a 9 or 10 year old was raped, it was a heinous crime. Where is the criminal prosecution of the rapist? There doesn’t seem to be any record of one, and in fact, no Ohio newspaper has endorsed the story.

In the fall of 2019, Facebook announced that it would be writing selected media outlets some very big checks. The launch of Facebook News was billed as a way to give consumers more access to information, but it was actually an attempt at appeasing big media companies.

While Hillary wanted someone to blame for her failures, the media wanted leverage over the company that controlled its fate. The invention of a “fake news” or “misinformation” crisis, the term that the media pivoted to once President Trump made “fake news” his own, was used to persuade Big Tech companies to censor conservatives and promote media content.

The Washington Post ran a front-page story on Thursday that lamented “There are no crowdsourced charity drives raising millions for victims’ families in Chicago, where the holiday weekend death toll reached at least 10 with 62 injured — numbers that exceed the toll in Monday’s mass shooting at a July 4th parade in nearby Highland Park, Ill. In that affluent lakeside suburb, the violence was an anomaly. Here, it is a grimly regular occurrence.”

But on her MSNBC show on Tuesday, Nicolle Wallace focused exclusively on the seven Highland Park shooting deaths. Not a word about the 10 shooting deaths in Chicago. Note that in 2021, there were  3,561 shooting incidents in Chicago, and 797 homicides.
