On Friday NBC’s Today show reported a story bearing on the assault on Paul Pelosi. Within a few hours the network deep-sixed the story with the comment that “it did not meet NBC News reporting standards.” We posted the memory-holed story via Twitter and noted NBC’s retraction here.
How did the story fail NBC News reporting standards? They didn’t say.
The Washington Post’s Paul Farhi spoke to “people at the network.” He mocks anyone who reiterated the story despite NBC’s mysterious “retraction.” Farhi’s story ran under the headline “NBC retracts erroneous Paul Pelosi story that fueled conspiracy theories.” Subhead: “People at the network said the ‘Today’ show report was based on ‘unreliable’ information from a source who was unnamed in the story.”
Note that Farhi’s sources (assuming they are plural as he says) remain unnamed in his story.
If NBC didn’t publish stories with ‘unnamed sources’ they wouldn’t have anything to publish.

The mass layoffs Friday gutted teams devoted to combating election misinformation, adding context to misleading tweets and communicating with journalists, public officials and campaign staff.
In other words, proglodytes can no long put their feet on the scales in favor of Democrats while throwing Republicans down the Memory Hole. No wonder they’re panicked.

The elephant in the room, of course, is the question: If they didn’t do it, who did? A question that nobody at the New York Times appears interested in asking, much less answering.
Maybe the Slimes ought to hire an investigative reporter … if they can find one.

In an apparent attempt to outdo her outrageous segment from last week, MSNBC Deadline: White House host Nicolle Wallace used part of her show not to condemn foreign interference in our elections but to call for other countries to administer them for us. She said this to Democratic Congressman Jim Himes (CT) who seemed to suggest that, while he was opposed to the idea now, he could be open to it at some point.
“I don’t want to get off topic but if you read through the papers this weekend, the threats to our elections in – what, two and a half weeks – are so pervasive and they’re dire and they include violence,” she proclaimed, without evidence.
She then suggested that the U.S. needed other countries to come in and run our elections for us and treat us like a destabilized, war-torn country. “I mean, do you think it’s time to ask for friends and allies to come over and help us monitor our elections? We used to do that in other burgeoning and threatened democracies,” she pressed.

So, the credentialed lost their marginal reputations for competency. Were we really to believe 50 former intelligence heads and experts who claimed Hunter Biden’s laptop was “Russian disinformation”? Even if they were not simply biased, did any of them have the competence to determine what the laptop was?
Or were we to take seriously the expertise of “17 Nobel Prize winners” who swore Biden’s “Build Back Better” debacle would not be inflationary as the country went into 9 percent plus inflation? Did we really believe our retired four-stars that Trump was a Nazi, a Mussolini, and someone to be removed from office “the sooner the better”?
Or were we to trust the 1,200 “health care professionals” who assured us that, medically speaking, while the rest of society was locked down it was injurious for the health of people of color to follow curfews and mask mandates instead of thronging en masse in street protests?
Or were we to believe Kevin Clinesmith’s FISA writ, or Andrew McCabe’s four-time assertion that he did not leak to the media, or that James Comey under oath really did not know the answers to 245 inquiries? Did Robert Mueller really not know what either the Steele dossier or Fusion GPS was?
