Public Notice.
Elon Musk is busy. No, not because he’s attending to any of his multibillion-dollar companies.
For Tesla and SpaceX and Starlink, he’s full of wild promises with very little actual progress. But what Musk is really spending time on these days is attacking the core foundations of American democracy on multiple fronts.
There’s his thus-far successful effort to get rid of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). There’s his political action committee, America PAC, which pretends to help register people to vote but is just hoovering up voter data to give to the Trump campaign. And there’s his lawsuit seeking to force companies to advertise on X, despite the fact advertisers generally do not want their ads running next to the Nazi content X is full of now.
All of these efforts have the potential to succeed because the federal courts are broken, and the administrative state is dying a slow and painful death.
So–what exactly are these ‘core foundations of American democracy’? Apparently they include the NLRB, a keystone of centralized governmental intrusion into business; hatred of Donald Trump; hatred of the ‘Nazi content’ on X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter); the (pre-Trump) federal courts; and the administrative state.
Good to know.

PBS “special correspondent” Simona Foltyn, who covers the Middle East, appeared on Tuesday’s edition of the taxpayer-funded PBS News Hour to make the case for the anti-Jewish terrorist group Hamas, after the assassination of Hamas terrorist chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Anchor Amna Nawaz introduced the report from Lebanon by making the familiar fatalist argument that there’s no point in killing Hamas leaders because it only strengthens the Palestinian populace against Israel.
Nawaz explained that Foltyn (who has a virulently anti-Israel X feed) had gained “rare access” to factions of “the militant group” Hamas within Lebanon for her report. You gain access by sounding like a propagandist.

When Richard Nixon resigned as president 50 years ago, the country witnessed the birth of a monster. I am not talking about some sinister influence he exerted after his fall. I am talking about the media.
Having gratifyingly removed a leader who had become dangerous and unstable, the media, like a grizzly bear that kills its first human and will only eat human flesh from then on, shifted its purpose from investigate, report and expose, to search and destroy. In the process, it has normalised disaster thinking about American life, from the most ordinary experiences — love and work — to the highest echelons of human activity. If America is on the verge of political calamity, it is because for the past five decades, the media has kept the country on the edge of its seat expecting no less.
Unable to come up with another Watergate, the media tried to force every story it could into the Watergate template. Someone big had to be exposed as doing something really bad, with the result that they had to be made to fall exceptionally hard. There was some precious, honest, public-spirited journalistic work as a result. But the media, as befit its proud new image as heroic saviour of democracy, gradually robbed democracy of its vital essence: the freedom to live life privately, secretly, incalculably. (When Socrates said that “the unexamined life is not worth living”, he did not have in mind 24/7 cable news.)

Comedy Central’s weekly temp host of The Daily Show, Michael Kosta, reacted to the outrage that Algerian boxer Imane Khelif is allowed to compete in the women’s Olympic boxing tournament on Monday by spreading fake news about pro-life laws in America in an attempt to argue conservatives are being hypocritical. He also conveniently never said the words “failed gender test.”
For the International Olympic Committee, Khelif is a woman because her passport identifies her as such, and that is good enough for Kosta, “Because, again, this female boxer is female. Can we stop this before America turns it into a presidential campaign issue?”

Larry Elder.
When I ran for governor, a reporter accused me of believing “men are smarter than women.”
Research shows, I wrote in a 20-year-old column, women know and care more about social security, health care and education. When asked, however, about 25 political questions, men were more likely to answer correctly in 15, men and women answered the same in nine, and women answered more correctly than men in only one. I quoted a left-wing journalism professor who said the reason women knew less than men about those questions is that they are more likely than men to watch local news. She said, “Watching local news makes you dumber.” This became translated to: “Elder thinks women are dumber than men.”
This brings us to Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, former President Donald Trump’s running mate. The AP wrote: “During Vance’s bid for the Senate in Ohio, he said in a Fox News interview that ‘we are effectively run in this country via the Democrats,’ and referred to them as ‘a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too. … How does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?’”

After waiting a week, NewsBusters can report that ABC’s The View had finally done the meme and falsely claimed Vice President Kamala Harris (the presumptive Democratic Party nominee) was “never” the border czar. In fact, during Wednesday’s episode, moderator Whoopi Goldberg literally held up a note card and seemingly read the widely spread Democratic Party talking points about “root causes” of migration and the lie that President Biden never appointed her to that role.
After playing dueling ads where the Trump campaign noted that Harris was the border czar, Goldberg snarkily suggested: “let’s get some factual information, right?”
Whoopi Goldberg strikes me as the Platonic ideal of the FUBB whose only goal in life is to be an annoyance to others.

Tuesday’s CBS Mornings featured a truly remarkable segment that had the cajones to commiserate with Lebanon (run in large part by the Iran-backed terror group, Hezbollah) that Israel might unleash a fierce military response to last weekend’s missile attack by Hezbollah on a youth soccer field that left 12 children dead and strewn in pieces.
Filling in on the weekday show, CBS Saturday Morning co-host Michelle Miller expressed concern of “growing” “fears of a wider war” not because of Hezbollah’s horrifying attack, but because “Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised a severe response”.

Before Joe Biden’s stumbling and incoherent debate performance led panicked journalists to join Democrats in bullying the presumptive Democratic nominee out of the 2024 campaign, the media airwaves were full of praise for Biden’s “enormously consequential” and “extraordinarily successful” presidency.
The “successes” that so impressed journalists, of course, were the *multiple* trillion-dollar-plus legislative packages passed by a friendly Democratic Congress during Biden’s first two years — “accomplishments” that have stoked the awful inflation that’s led most Americans to say the President’s economic policies have failed.
“If you add up those seven pieces of legislation, it’s a $3.5 trillion agenda that Biden and the Democrats have passed since early last year,” political analyst Ryan Lizza gushed on CNN in 2022. “There’s really nothing like that in terms of that scale….He’s sort of in that modern pantheon now.”

Who did Amanpour & Co. invite on to discuss the supposed “Christian Nationalism” running rampant within Project 2025, the feared, loathed, seldom read presidential blueprint issued by the Heritage Foundation? Nobody but Kristin Kobes Du Mez, the author of something called Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation.
Bianna Golodryga was the fill-in host on Christiane Amanpour’s political talk show (whose episodes run on tax-funded PBS after first airing on CNN International) and set up the interview between liberal author Kristin Kobes Du Mez and liberal journalist Michel Martin by borrowing Du Mez’s subtitle: “Historian Kristin Kobes Du Mez tells Michel Martin how white evangelicals how white evangelicals have corrupted a faith and fractured a nation.”
Golodryga justified the show’s paranoid liberal focus on Project 2025 by noting “the contributors of the conservative playbook include some of [Trump’s closest political advisers, as well as organizations with Christian nationalist leanings.”

Earlier this week as I found myself scrolling through Instagram, I was bombarded by colorful compilations of Vice President Harris’ most absurd remarks. As I watched one of them, I assumed it must have been an attack ad from the GOP. But to my surprise, the clip was from the women’s media company “Betches” and was captioned “A woman in a high powered job laughing?? Groundbreaking really.”
As Democrats have mobilized to support President Joe Biden’s pick for a successor in Kamala Harris following his announcement last weekend that he would not seek reelection, the Internet would seem to show that influencers have decided to embrace Harris’ eclectic and often unserious persona. “Kamala is brat” was tweeted by singer Charli XCX and has been a meme embraced by the campaign. This is likely in a desire to galvanize young people, a coalition that had been decisively unenthused by Joe Biden’s campaign, to come out to vote for Harris. However, the cost may be swing voters.

It was the second time Tapper was requested for deposition and the second time CNN put up resistance, this time more aggressively. CNN has also been accused of destroying evidence critical to the case.
“There is no basis to depose Tapper,” CNN counsel Deanna Shullman wrote in her motion as she argued against “re-opening fact discovery and deposing CNN employee Jake Tapper.”
