Scripps Students Protest Madeleine Albright as Speaker Because She’s a ‘White Feminist’

4th April 2016

Read it.

Students and (allegedly) some faculty are upset at the decision to invite former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright as Scripps College commencement speaker.

Part of the reason is the belief that she “enabled genocide” by yanking UN and US troops out of Rwanda in the mid-1990s.

Busted. (I thought Democrats got a pass on that sort of thing?)

Another is because she is a white feminist. It’s 2016, after all. Where are all the POC — People of Color?

“*Just out of curiosity* does anyone know how many POC we’ve had as guest commencement speakers at Scripps? 2…3?” asked another student. “real question. real problem,” asked one student on social media.

Man, there’s no pleasing some people.

U of Michigan Students Call Police Over Pro-Donald Trump Chalkings

2nd April 2016

Read it.

Michigan continues to battle Massachusetts and California for the title of Most Socialist State.

According to The Michigan Daily, messages reading “#stop Islam” and “Trump 2016” were found on campus Wednesday. “The statements, which were largely washed off by Thursday, prompted students to call University police…” they report.

“This is so reflective of our student campus and the depths of racism and the things that students of color have to endure and that the administration is continuously silent on,” Michigan student Banen Al-Sheemary told the Daily.

Poor special snowflakes. Does that mean that Republican students (if there are any) would be justified in calling the police about pro-Hillary or pro-Bernie chalkings? I suspect not….

Connecticut May Raid Yale’s Endowment for Much-Needed Cash

28th March 2016

Read it.

A bill introduced to the Connecticut Senate would tax the annual gains of any college endowment valued at over $10 billion. The high threshold effectively singles out Yale, as no other schools in Connecticut even come close to having an endowment that large. Yale’s endowment of about $26 billion is the second largest in the country, behind only Harvard University’s gargantuan $38 billion nest egg.

This is the sort of thing that the Tax Code specializes in — a provision that appears to be generally applicable but is specially crafted to help or hurt specific interests.

Connecticut needs money because of a rapidly-growing hole in the state’s budget that lawmakers are desperate to fill. The state has a current budget shortfall of $266 million, and its unfunded pension liabilities total about $26 billion, one of the most underfunded pension systems in the country.

Yale will soon find out that the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.

Yale certainly presents a tempting target to lawmakers. In contrast to regular citizens or businesses, the historic school can’t simply relocate to avoid taxes.

Heh.

White Candidate Faces Expulsion From Election for Making Black Opponent Feel ‘Uncomfortable’

Emory University President Vows to Hunt Down Student Whose ‘Trump 2016’ Message Wrecked Safe Space

23rd March 2016

Read it.

Emory University President James Wagner will not allow an act of pro-Trump political advocacy to go unscrutinized: the administration will review security footage in hopes of identifying the person or persons who committed the heinous act of scribbling “Trump 2016” in chalk all over campus.

Haters gotta hate.

The messages horrified many students on campus, who complained to Wagner’s office that they felt intimidated and unsafe. In response, Wagner tepidly endorsed the perpetrator’s free speech rights while making every effort to assuage the offended students’ fears.

But that’s not the end of the story: Wagner also announced that he would review security footage in hopes of identifying the perpetrators and subjecting them to the “conduct violation process,” according to The Emory Wheel. If the perpetrators are not students, trespassing charges will be filed.

Free speech for we but not for thee.

Left-wing Protesters Brought Mob Violence to UC-Berkeley Event Featuring Metallica Drummer

17th March 2016

Read it.

Liberal students attempted to shut down an event at the University of California-Berkeley earlier this month by resorting to one of the worst kinds of censorship tactics: mob violence.

The event featured a discussion between notable people, including Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich. Ulrich’s elderly father participated in the forum, as did wealthy entrepreneur Marc Benioff.

Members of the Student Labor Committee, the group that crashed the event, didn’t object to these specific speakers. Rather, they have urged a boycott of all speakers until the administration agrees to their demands, which concern the allegedly subpar conditions endured by contract workers on campus.

Ulrich, who hosted the event, went so far as to allow a protester to speak at the beginning of the event. This was not sufficient for the aggrieved. Eventually protesters stormed the stage and even assaulted Benioff. The police were forced to intervene.

My, what a surprise! Aren’t you surprised? I’m sure surprised.

Protesters interrupted the University of Wisconsin system’s Board of Regents meeting for a third time last week, demanding the end of “blatantly oppressive” standardized testing.

Perils of the Crust

10th March 2016

Read it.

When Chelsea Clinton and Ivanka Trump were introduced by their husbands a few years ago, they clicked immediately — the two famous daughters swanned around Manhattan together for a time, posing on the red carpet at events like the Glamour Women of the Year Awards where they laughed and embraced for the cameras.

They seemed to genuinely delight in each other’s presence and had much common ground. Last year, Chelsea even compared Ivanka’s natural charm to her own father’s while praising her in the glossy pages of Vogue.

But with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump now on track for a King Kong versus Godzilla political collision in November, that friendship has been put temporarily on hold — both women, sources close to them said, have chosen to no longer be seen together in public during the election. Given the personal nastiness and vitriol of the campaign already, it may be difficult for the relationship to recover.

Coalition of Fringes’ Circular Firing Squad Aims at Chris Rock

2nd March 2016

Steve Sailer examines the brawl among Fashionable Minorities [tm] as to who is the victimiest.

American Jews would be prudent to be concerned that the growing anti-Israel BDS movement on college campuses, which is typically a favorite cause among exotic immigrant students. It’s a big deal at places like UCLA because student politics is divided up into a pro-Israel alliance funded by Israeli millionaires and an anti-Israel side among lot of foreign and immigrant students from Muslim or other Afro-Eurasian countries, along with some Europeans.

So far, the big American domestic minorities like blacks, Mexicans, and Chinese don’t pay much attention to BDS. But it could eventually spill over into or even merge with the current domestic white-bashing represented by #OscarsSoWhite and #JournalistsSoWhite. A nightmare scenario for American Jews is domestic blacks and Latinos and Asians eventually denouncing as discrimination the very high Jewish proportions found in most of the really good jobs in America.

U. Michigan LGBT Center Creates Safe Space to Protect Students from Offensive Speakers—Both of Whom Are Gay

24th February 2016

Read it.

The University of Michigan’s libertarian and conservative students held a debate on free speech and feminism featuring conservative media personality Milo Yiannopoulos and leftist activist Julie Bindel last night. Their views are apparently so terrifying that the campus’s Spectrum Center—an LGBT awareness group—provided a safe space for students who felt “threatened” by the debate.

It’s a tad ironic that a gay group would feel the need to protect gay students from Yiannopoulos and Bindel—both of whom identify as LGBT. While it’s certainly true that venomously anti-gay gay people exist, humoring the idea that Yiannopoulos and Bindel represent some kind of existential threat to anyone is indulging in hysteria.

Investigation: Princeton Prof’s ‘Racist Treatment’ Claim False

19th February 2016

Read it.

The Mercer County (New Jersey) Prosecutor’s Office has released the results of its preliminary investigation into the arrest of Princeton’s Imani Perry, and found that there was no wrongdoing on the part of officers.

According to First Assistant Prosecutor Doris Galuchie, “following Perry’s allegations of mistreatment, an internal affairs investigation reviewed all video evidence, police reports and court documents related to the case.”

“Based upon that review, the officer’s conduct is to be commended, not criticized,” she said.

And why is that?

“It is imperative to note that everything Perry claimed before the video came out is simply not true,” Galuchie said, “What happened to her had nothing to do with her race and everything to do with her driving 20 or more miles over the speed limit while her license was suspended and she had warrants out for her arrest.”

Support College Censorship or Become Its Target, Prominent Gay Activist Discovers

17th February 2016

My, what a surprise! Aren’t you surprised? I’m sure surprised.

Peter Tatchell is one of the most prominent and vocal gay rights activists in England, participating in causes and actions going back to the 1970s. He famously attempted a citizen’s arrest of extremely anti-gay Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe when the leader was visiting London. He was actually attacked and injured by Mugabe’s guards during a second attempt to arrest the man in Brussels in 2001. He has a lengthy history of support for LGBT causes, peaceful causes, and all sorts of left-leaning positions.

But he signed a letter opposing behavior by students in colleges in the United Kingdom who were attempting to deny the ability of speakers to discuss ideas with which they did not agree, so screw him. If Tatchell doesn’t support driving out speakers who hold unpopular views, then he shouldn’t get to speak either. So the argument apparently goes. Tatchell is supposed to give a speech today at Canterbury Christ Church University on “re-radicalizing queers.” But his support for open platforms for free speech are not queer enough for the National Unions of Students’ LGBT rep.

“I Would Like to Shank the Academy…”

28th January 2016

David Cole is delightfully dyspeptic today.

You see, the Oscars are supposed to “reflect America.” Didn’t you know that? Well, apparently it’s true. “You don’t reflect America, your industry doesn’t reflect America,” a coalition of minority activists bellowed last week. Will Smith agreed, telling Good Morning America in a live satellite hookup from his solid-gold mansion under the sea that the Oscars should “reflect” American “beauty.” Al Sharpton, who’s normally so wary of bandwagons, uncharacteristically raised his voice in support, claiming that the Oscars don’t “reflect modern America.” And at a recent event in L.A., actor David Oyelowo claimed that the Motion Picture Academy “doesn’t reflect this nation.”

Of course, the truth is the Academy’s nominees are not supposed to “reflect America.” Entertainment-industry hiring practices in general are not supposed to “reflect America.” They’re supposed to reflect the available talent pool, and nothing else. The notion that Hollywood is supposed to reflect America is a pernicious bit of nonsense that even some conservatives buy into when they counter the current Oscar protests by (correctly) pointing out that black actors get hired roughly in proportion to the percentage of black people in the U.S. However, making that point merely plays into the fiction that “representing America” is somehow the goal. It isn’t. Acting isn’t like food-service work, retail or clerical work, factory work, janitorial work, or customer-service work. No one is ever forced into acting by a bad economy. No man has ever said, “They’re closing the plant and shipping the jobs to India, so I guess that means I’ll have to learn Shakespeare in order to support my family.”

Boyz n the Hood director John Singleton, the first African-American to be nominated for a directing award, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding this year’s Oscars nominations, saying that he doesn’t have a problem with the lack of diversity in them.

“It’s like every year people complain,” he continued. “People even complain even when we have a lot of nominations.”

Illustrating the eternal truth that the whining always comes loudest from losers who are convinced that they ought to be winners, without having to do any work to get there.

The United Nations’ refugee agency has sharply criticized the plan that could be adopted by Parliament as early as next month, calling it a deeply concerning response to humanitarian needs. The agency appealed to Denmark to drop the new measures.

Translation: ‘humanitarian needs’ = ‘free stuff for fashionable victims’.

But the Danish government is continuing to press ahead with a number of initiatives that authorities describe as attempts to make the country less attractive to immigrants.

Which it will certainly do, and which will make it a target for obloquy from the international Crust.

The Bill Comes Due: Cosby vs. Clinton

11th January 2016

Question: Would Bill Cosby be facing criminal charges if he hadn’t departed from liberal orthodoxy? Keep in mind that the old rumors and ugly stories were reignited by a liberal black comic, Hannibal Burress, who objected to Cosby’s controversial speeches from a few years ago criticizing urban black culture. If Cosby had kept to the politically correct line, I doubt he’d be facing charges. After all, look at the pass Bill Clinton has gotten. Take, for example, the remarks of Joy Behar on The View last week:

JOY BEHAR: Chappaquiddick.  I mean, a girl drowns and he abandons her and she drowned and women still voted for Teddy Kennedy. Why? Because he voted for women’s rights. That’s why. That’s the bottom line of it in my opinion. I mean, I don’t like either one of them, to tell you the truth, Teddy or Bill. They’re both dogs as far as I’m concerned. But I still will vote for Bill Clinton because he votes in my favor.

It’s always about who’s on who’s side. That’s why Muslim rapists get a pass. That’s why black gang thugs get a pass.

Diversity on Campus: Does It Have a future?

29th December 2015

Read it.

Diversity is under threat on college campuses across the land — from exactly the students cherished for their diversity by admissions committees.

Let us recall that for almost 40 years now, diversity has been the gold standard defense of racial preferences. Racial diversity is said to enhance the classroom (and general social) experience by exposing other students to views purportedly most likely to come from people of color.

Yet it is too little remarked that much of what we hear from black students — and not only amidst the protests of late but often over decades past as well — flies directly in the face of the whole diversity argument that university administrators propound so ardently.

For example, at Oberlin, student protesters are demanding not just one but several “safe spaces” for “Africana-identifying” students. It’s fair to assume that white students would not be allowed in these spaces, given that the rationale is that here is where black students could catch their breath after the endless sallies of racism that the school’s students and environment force upon them daily.

Aside from the obvious problems with this plan, note that students barricading themselves in this way would have pointedly little interest in sharing their experiences as “diverse” people with their fellow white students. Even those who would consider this self-segregation justified will admit that these students are giving a thumbs down to the idea that they are valuable on campus as “diverse” lessons for others.

Apparently not. Evidently the Special Snowflakes of Color have no time to spread the sweet balm of diversity while up to their asses in the alligators of microagression.

Harvard Law Professor: Majority of Men Accused of Campus Rape Are Minority

14th December 2015

Steve Sailer digs up the dirt that the Crust would bury.

As we all know, the Campus Rape Crisis is due to white fraternity boys like U. of Virginia lifeguard Haven Monahan. Except, despite all the rules mandating counting race and rape on campus, nobody ever releases any figures about the racial makeup of college men accused of rape.

But in passing in a New Yorker article, Harvard Law School criminal law professor Jeannie Suk drops a bombshell: on average, male students accused of sexual assault look less like Haven Monahan than like, say, Heisman Trophy-winner Jameis Winston.

It’s funny how you used to hear all the time about the dangers of any “chilling effect” on freedom of expression, but now you hear all about how allowing freedom of expression creates a “hostile environment” and the phrase “chilling effect” has vanished.

‘Radicalized’

8th December 2015

The FBI has finally, with much sighing and moaning, admitted that the the San Bernardino shooters were ‘radicalized’.

Don’t you just love that word, ‘radicalized’? Sounds like a treatment — like sanforized, anodized, bastardized, caramelized, generalized, homogenized, etc. But the key aspect of being ‘-ized’ is that it is something that is done to you, not something for which you are responsible; not a free choice, but an Occurrence, like getting caught in the rain, or imbedded in carbonite by Darth Vader.

This is all a part of the Narrative, in which nobody who is a member of a Fashionable Victim Class is ever responsible for what they do, but rather are puppets being pushed along by the Evil Racist Sexist Homophobic Islamophobic society in which they happen to find themselves.

The chief intellectual defect of ‘progressives’ is this refusal to believe that people are free agents, who make choices and who are responsible for the results of those choices. (Hat tip to the Forces of History via Cultural Marxism.) If nobody is responsible (except Republicans, the ‘1%’ who don’t vote Democrat, and maybe the Koch brothers), then everybody is a victim, and as victims deserve hugs and money.

Unfortunately, being shot (or blown up) by a ‘victim’ has the exact same effect as getting shot (or blown up) by a far-right-wing neo-Nazi secretly-KKK NRA member. No difference — except in which direction the fingers get pointed.

This is the chief thing for which ‘progressives’ will have to answer to history: The denial of free will, the deeply religious belief that We’re All To Blame, and so none of us are.

But Hambrook Primary School in Bristol said she could no longer use the cane after a risk assessment said the cane was a “high risk” to teachers and other students.

No actual evidence of any trouble, just a theoretical ‘risk assessment’. I bet these people believe in Global Warming. (It’s all about not getting sued.)

The school said she should have “100 per cent” adult support at all times instead.

What a great way to foster independence and self-reliance. She’ll fit right into the dependency-welfare state.

Her mother Kirsty said having a helper following her around would isolate her from the other pupils.

Oh, ya think?

UMN Student Govt: 9/11 Remembrance Would Violate Our Safe Space

13th November 2015

Read it.

I am not making this up.

Nathan Amundson serves as President of UMN’s Young Americans for Liberty chapter and student group representative for Write Things, a creative writing group. Amundson said debate on the resolution centered around whether enacting the moment of recognition might instill a more islamophobic sentiment on campus.

I wonder whether they think that being beheaded would also ‘violate their safe space’?

One student representative said holding a moment of recognition over a tragedy committed by non-white perpetrators could increase racist attitudes on campus.

Sounds like the racist attitudes on campus are at their max already, although not in the direction that these one-way muthas think.

Guy Fawkes Mask-Wearing Anarchists Are Lining Businessmen’s Pockets

13th November 2015

Read it.

I have long been toying with a business idea, but never had the time, patience, know-how and, above all, the resolve to do anything with it: the Virtue-Signalling Investment Fund. This fund would invest exclusively in virtue-signalling products – that is, products which people use to signal a right-on, trendy-leftie view of the world.

It would hold shares in companies making products related to fashionable causes, such as feminism (think of the “This is what a feminist looks like” T-shirt), environmentalism, identity politics and above all, anti-capitalism.

Anti-capitalism provides the basis for a permanent bull market, which is massive in size and scope. It’s not just the obligatory Che Guevara shirt. There is more anti-capitalist literature on the market than anyone could read in a lifetime, and there are literally thousands of movies and songs with subtle or not-so-subtle anti-market messages. And, of course, there’s anti-capitalist merchandise.

Take the ‘Anonymous’ masks used on Guy Fawkes Night: You probably knew that Time Warner collects a royalty per mask sold – but they are not the only ones profiting handsomely from the anti-capitalist gravy train. At least one businessman buys those masks directly from China at a price of £0.22 a piece, and sells them here for £4.20. He says that he makes a profit of £2.60 per mask, which would amount to a staggering margin of 62 per cent.

White Student Turned Away From ‘Stop White People’ Multicultural Luncheon

10th November 2015

Read it.

Hey, he’s the oppressor, don’t you know?

The student had tried to attend the event at the request of The College Fix, which sought to ascertain the type of ways in which students might “stop white people,” and from doing what, exactly.

Pretty much everything, looks like. Go to college for sure.

And as soon as that gets accomplished, they will come under criticism for being racist and denying Native Americans their due proportion of school mascots.

Mark my words … racist if you do, and racist if you don’t.

Four-Star Hotel in Saxony Becomes “Refugee” Housing

23rd October 2015

Read it.

When we’re being sensitive, nothing but the best will do for our special victims.

A four-star hotel in the German town of Halle (in Saxony-Anhalt, the former DDR) was abruptly converted into “refugee” housing. Hotel employees and business owners received little or no information about the closure beforehand, and many were taken by surprise, finding themselves locked out and suddenly unemployed.
