Oregon Tried Giving Homeless Youth $1,000 a Month With No Strings Attached. Here’s What Happened

Or at least what they want you to think happened.

By the end of the two-year period, 94% of participants reported they were housed. Many also reported that they had improved their financial literacy skills, such as learning how to budget and build credit — skills that allowed them to leave unsafe or unstable situations.

The results of the pilot Direct Cash Transfer Plus program are encouraging and a worthwhile investment, said Matthew Rasmussen, program manager for the Youth Experiencing Homelessness Program.

“If somebody is really wanting to explore how to slow and end chronic homelessness among adults, then we need to do something to stop young people from entering it,” Rasmussen said.

Marine Corps. An E-1 gets $2400 a month, PLUS free food, free housing (unhoused? not for long), free mediczl  are,  AND training in a skill than can get them a job. Want to stop homelessness? It doesn’t take some socialist ‘direct cash transfer’ program.

Chicago Doctors Keep Patient Alive for 48 Hours Without Lungs

2nd February 2026

Read it.

Surgeons in Chicago kept a patient alive for two days by creating an artificial lung system, according to a Northwestern Medicine press release.

In Spring 2023, a Missouri resident was flown to Northwestern Memorial Hospital on advanced life support due to an influenza-associated lung failure that escalated into a rapid pneumonia and sepsis. At one point, his heart stopped, and doctors performed CPR.

“That infection caused his lungs to liquify and then continued to progress to the rest of his body,” said Dr. Ankit Bharat in the press release.

In many cases, with prolonged life support and time, the lungs recover. In this man’s case, his condition was too severe, and he needed a transplant. But he was too unstable to undergo the removal of his lungs and a transplant.

As a solution, the doctors designed a total artificial lung system, which allowed for circulation by helping maintain balanced blood flow through the heart. The patient was able to stay alive without the presence of any lungs for 48 hours before the transplant.

Icebreaker Diplomacy Finally Gives Canada the Upper Hand Over Trump

2nd February 2026

The Telegraph (UK).

Icebreakers, as these vessels are known, can weigh more than 30,000 tons and have become critical in moving cargo, supplying research stations and projecting military power in the region.
The US may be the unchallenged power in its own hemisphere, but it is far more vulnerable in the Arctic because its fleet of icebreakers lags well behind those of rival powers and allies alike. The situation is “abysmal”, one former admiral told The Telegraph.
Canada, which has a formidable array of icebreakers, plus the expertise to design and build them, could help Donald Trump assert his authority in the region.
But amid the president’s threats to annex his northern neighbour and pummel its economy with extortionate tariffs, experts question whether icebreaker diplomacy could help Canada to bring Mr Trump to heel.

Of course, brining Mr Trump ‘to heel’ is what all right-thinking people want to do.

Diversity Drive to Make Britain’s Countryside ‘Less White’

2nd February 2026

The Telegraph (UK).

The British countryside will be made into a less “white environment” under nationwide diversity plans.

Officials in rural areas, including the Chilterns and the Cotswolds, have pledged to attract more minorities under plans drawn up by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra).

The plans follow Defra-commissioned reports that claimed the countryside would become “irrelevant” in a multicultural society, as it was a “white environment” principally enjoyed by the “white middle class”.

The saddest part about it is that they’re doing it to themselves.

UPDATE: Labour Plans To Make Britain’s Countryside ‘Less White’

CNN’s Abby Phillip Corrected After Giving False Information on Charge Against Don Lemon

1st February 2026

Newsbusters.

When it comes to the arrest and charges against former CNN Host Don Lemon, for his role in the invasion of a Church in St. Paul, Minnesota last month, it appears that some in the liberal media are not only willing to support his claims that he was there as a “journalist”, but they are willing to leave out some important information during their reporting. As pointed out by our colleague Alex Christy, ABC and CBS are guilty of doing it, and they are not alone.

Friday night on CNN’s NewsNight With Abby Phillip, the host incorrectly claimed that Lemon was not named in a part of the indictment where he was in fact included, and she wound up being corrected by panelist and New York Post correspondent Lydia Moynihan. Phillip opened the show by claiming, “Freedom of the press is under siege after the arrests of Independent Journalists, former CNN anchor Don Lemon and Georgia Fort for their coverage of an anti-ICE protest that erupted and interrupted a Church service in St. Paul, Minnesota.”

Phillip soon played part of Lemon’s interview with Pastor David Easterwood, who described what was happening as, “unacceptable and shameful,” and at one point said he needed to go and “take care of my flock.” But Lemon continued and eventually accused the pastor of “pushing” him, although it does not appear that way on the video. Phillip then read from the indictment.

donor of humanitarian assistance to Somalia.”

A year earlier, the Biden administration had spent $1.1 billion on Somalia. And the same was true of the year before. U.S. spending on Somalia had shot up from $103 million under a Republican House to $300 million under Pelosi’s Democrats. By 2017, foreign aid to Somalia had passed the half a billion dollar mark, by 2018, it was over $800 million and by 2020, after Rep. Ilhan Omar joined Congress, our spending on Somalia had passed over $1 billion.

Over the last decade, $9.3 billion was spent on Somalia. Over $10 billion since 9/11. While the spending has dropped in the second Trump administration, another $150 million was allocated for 2025. Not only have we provided humanitarian aid for Somalia’s perennial famines, which like most UN declared famines remain dubious, but “Somalia (is) among the most significant recipients of security aid in sub-Saharan Africa” even though other countries are more troubled.

And what did we get? Ilhan Omar and $10 billion in fraud.

A Million Votes Too Late: Ken Cuccinelli Dissects Virginia Redistricting Ruling

1st February 2026

Read it.

Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli says a recent state court ruling blocking Democrats’ attempt to advance a gerrymandered redistricting plan is firmly rooted in Virginia law and could ultimately be upheld on appeal.

Following the inauguration of Gov. Abigail Spanberger this month, Democrats are now firmly in control of Virginia government and seeking to add four Democrat seats ahead of this year’s midterm elections.

Speaking with The Daily Signal’s Joe Thomas, Cuccinelli said the judge found the amendment process violated Virginia law on three independent grounds: notice requirements, election timing, and constitutional limits on special legislative sessions.

“The judge ruled on three separate, independent bases that the way the Democrats have gone about advancing their redistricting constitutional amendment violates Virginia law,” Cuccinelli said.

SCAM Act Introduced to Revoke Citizenship of Migrants Who Commit Fraud, Serious Felonies

1st February 2026

Read it.

Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) has introduced the Stop Citizenship Abuse and Misrepresentation (SCAM) Act that would strip citizenship from individuals who commit serious crimes within 10 years of their naturalization.

According to Schmitt, the legislation would expand the grounds for beginning the denaturalization process to include welfare fraud, aggravated felonies and joining a terrorist organization, including gangs and cartels.

Huge Verdict Could Destroy ‘Gender Transition for Minors’ Industry

1st February 2026

Read it.

A jury on Friday found a psychologist and a surgeon liable for malpractice after they convinced a 16-year-old girl to lop off her breasts. This marks the first medical malpractice case involving a detransitioner to reach a verdict – and it has huge implications.

Fox Varian, who identified as transgender at the time, was awarded $2 million in damages – which includes $1.6 million for past and future pain and suffering, and $400,000 for future medical expenses. Now 22, Varian identifies as a woman.

The January 30 decision at Westchester County Courthouse in White Plains, New York, found both Dr. Kenneth Einhorn, a psychologist, and Dr. Simon Chin, a surgeon, liable for failing to meet standards of care before performing irreversible surgery on Fox Varian, as they had skipped over important steps while evaluating whether she should move forward with the surgery, and failed to adequately communicate with each other in a “departure from the standard of care.”

ABC and CBS Ignore Lemon Being Asked to Leave by Church’s Pastor

1st February 2026

Read it.

When it comes to the case against former CNN host Don Lemon’s alleged role in a recent takeover of a St. Paul church, the two most serious allegations against him are probably those that state he did not leave when the pastor asked him to and that he obstructed congregants as they tried to leave. However, neither ABC’s nor CBS’s Friday evening or Saturday morning news broadcasts reported on those details. While NBC mentioned the part about Lemon being asked to leave, it joined the other two in not explicitly mentioning the obstruction allegation, even if it showed footage of Lemon by the door.

CBS reporter Matt Gutman was the most vocal against Lemon’s arrest on Evening News, declaring, “Tonight, Don Lemon defiantly addressing reporters after being indicted on that federal civil rights charge.”

After showing video of Lemon at a press conference and from the day of the alleged crime, Gutman didn’t see what the big deal was, “Don Lemon says this act of conventional journalism has landed him in federal court.”

Gutman then profiled co-defendant Georgia Fort, calling her a “Minnesota journalist,” but ignoring her role with the NAACP before playing some clips from Attorney General Pam Bondi and President Trump.

Violent Radical Leftists Brutally Beat Policeman During Protest in Turin

1st February 2026

Read it.

Turin, Italy saw scenes of extreme violence on Saturday during a demonstration agains the eviction of the illegally occupied Askatasuna anarchist ’social centre’ last December. The centre was shut down and the property seized at the end of last year by DIGOS, the General Investigations and Special Operations Division (DIGOS) of the Italian Police, after the centre’s activists took part in an attack against the headquarters of Italian newspaper La Stampa.

The Saturday protest quickly escalated and for about an hour, between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., it turned into what the authorities describe as urban guerrilla warfare. Reportedly, at one point a large group of demonstrators pulled out homemade shields, and initiating a clash with the riot police. The violent mob burned garbage cans, and threw stones, fireworks and smoke bombs at the police.

A video shared on social media by Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto and former Democratic Party senator Stefano Esposito shows the moment a group of demonstrators surround and brutally attack a police officer, ten against one, kicking and beating him with a hammer. Israel Terminates Doctors Without Borders Operations in Gaza

1st February 2026

Read it.

And about fargin time, too.

The Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism said on Sunday it is terminating the humanitarian operations of the international charity Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières, MSF) in Gaza after the organisation failed to provide a list of its Palestinian staff. The ministry noted that the group will cease its work and leave Gaza by February 28th.

In December, the ministry announced it would prevent 37 aid organisations, including MSF, from operating in Gaza from March 1 for failing to provide detailed information about their Palestinian staff. According to the ministry, two MSF employees had links with the terrorist groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad. MSF denied the claim. .

In its statement the ministry said MSF had committed in early January that it would share the staff list as required by the Israeli authorities, but then backtracked and did not transfer the lists, annoucing “it does not intend to proceed with the registration process at all, contradicting its previous statements and the binding protocol.”

How Intellectual Tourism Hurts Our Society

1st February 2026

Read it.

The idea of a ‘global village’ was once romantic to many who witnessed the rise of the internet and has remained highly appealing to the liberal-minded generation Z. Study abroad programs, which were once affordable only to the privileged, are now part of many university curricula. My recent encounters as a law teacher in Berlin (Germany) with (aspiring) participants suggested that such programs can harm society by grooming morally arrogant and historically illiterate future leaders—bureaucrats, lawyers, and policymakers with shiny CVs who, despite their travels, remain ensconced within their ideology nurseries.

Berlin Hospitals Struggle to Treat Hundreds of Falls During Winter Freeze Because Environmental Laws Forbid Use of Salt on Sidewalks

Repeated snowfall and freezing rain have coated the open-air insane asylum known as Berlin in a thin sheet of slippery ice since the beginning of January. To spare plants, city environmental laws have long forbidden using salt on pedestrian paths and stairways, and so residents have been falling and injuring themselves at such high rates that emergency rooms have had trouble keeping up:

Feel free to laugh at these fools. I did.

The Elitist Media Still Impose a Dominant Partisan Narrative

1st February 2026

The Foundry.

Conservatives could look at today’s incredibly fractured media environment and wonder why anyone would need to worry about the elite media, considering their trust numbers are in the basement (except among liberals) and their audiences keep eroding.

But just breathe the media air any day, and what we used to call the “dominant media” still dominates in setting the political agenda—in determining what everyone talks about. There was an old maxim that the media can’t tell you what to think, but they’ll tell you what to think about.

This again came to mind when MS NOW host Nicolle Wallace interviewed Oliver Darcy, whose current business is energetically trying to reinforce the ideological rigor of the leftist press. Wallace told Darcy, “I still think that story selection is the most power we have, what you decide to shine a light on, especially now in the second Trump term.”

Right now, that dominant story is the allegedly heroic resistance in Minneapolis to federal attempts to enforce the immigration laws. The daily narrative is that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are murdering innocent protesters in the streets. It’s not just choosing the subject. It’s the tone and tenor of the coverage. When it’s 93% negative against ICE on the evening newscasts, it’s a combination of time and tone intended to transform public opinion.

On Therapists as Social Justice Warriors

1st February 2026

The New Neo.

On yesterday’s thread about anti-MAGA rage in the health professions, there was some discussion about the leftism of therapists. I’m unaware of any threats by therapists to kill MAGA fans. But then again – unlike nurses and doctors – they’re not in the business of directly tending to their clients’ bodily needs, so they don’t have as much opportunity – or is it temptation?

But I think it might be time to recycle a post I wrote in May of 2023 on the topic of the leftism of therapists, and the fact that many have been refusing to treat people on the right for many years prior to Trump. So the rest of this post is a repeat of that earlier post.

Coffee as a Staining Agent Substitute in Electron Microscopy

1st February 2026

Read it.

To ensure that the tissue structures of biological samples are easily recognizable under the electron microscope, they are treated with a staining agent. The standard staining agent for this is uranyl acetate. However, some laboratories are not allowed to use this highly toxic and radioactive substance for safety reasons.

A research team at the Institute of Electron Microscopy and Nanoanalysis (FELMI-ZFE) at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) has now found an environmentally friendly alternative: ordinary espresso.

Images of the samples treated with it were of equally good quality as images of comparative samples, which were prepared with uranyl acetate. The researchers have published their findings in the journal Methods.
