Gen Z: Nationalists vs. Communists

8th August 2025

Read it.

Most kids I know fall into one of two buckets. Let’s call them America First nationalists and hardcore socialists.

Girls are more likely to be on the far-left, while young men are increasingly right-wing. This gender divide couldn’t be clearer, at least in my area.

This shift to the extremes is understandable. Both sides are angry, and for good reason. The system isn’t working for them.

So the choice is between those who are dedicated to the principles of the American Founders, and those who depend on a foreign ideology to justify stealing all of our stuff. Good that we cleared that up.

Italy Grounds Migrant ‘Rescue’ Plane in Border Crackdown

8th August 2025

Read it.

Italy has for the first time grounded an NGO reconnaissance plane, suspending Sea Watch’s Seabird 1 for 20 days over violations from June 30. The order came from the National Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC), extending Rome’s clampdown on activist groups from the sea to the air.

The German NGO tried to link the decision to its recent claim of a “failure to rescue” by Italian authorities that allegedly left three migrants dead—an accusation ENAC has not confirmed. Sea Watch denounced the measure as a “pretext” and vowed to defy the suspension, calling for donations to fight it in court.

A 2024 ENAC directive already bans NGO ships and aircraft from operating in the central Mediterranean without Coast Guard coordination, citing maritime law and national security. Rome has repeatedly accused NGOs of undermining state-led border controls.

This is an ongoing process with such NGOs. Their favorite is to hover off the coast of North Africa waiting for some overpacked boatload of “migrants” to make it past the 3-mile limit, then swoop in and “rescue” them and haul them to rest of the way to Europe, where they enter the “asylum” system and are never gotten rid of.

NY State of Mind

8th August 2025

Read it.

NY begins the last chapter of its self-destruction this year. By 2035, every new motor vehicle offered for sale in NY must be fossil-fuel free…that is, electric. But that electric-vehicle mandate begins its 10-year phase in at year-endthis year! By the end of 2025, 35% of new vehicles on dealers’ lots must be electric. That percentage gradually increases to 68% by 2030 and 100% by 2035. The mandate includes all cars, SUVs and pickup trucks. Where will the electricity to power these vehicles come from? Governor Hochul neither knows nor cares. But I’d predict electricity rates in NY will be on the way up. So will the prices of reliable used cars.

To help offset the increased cost of cars and electricity, Governor Hochul will be handing out free money. Nothing stokes inflation like a free money giveaway. But, having learned nothing from the 20% inflation ignited in part by the Covid giveaways and the grossly misnamed “Inflation Reduction Act,” as part of her 2026 budget deal, the governor has unveiled a $2 billion “inflation refund” plan for 2026. The initiative will distribute checks to some 8 million New Yorkers. Checks will be for $200, $300 or $400, depending upon income. More inflation is sure to follow.

Eventually there will be only two types of people in New York: Rich people with expensive electric cars, and everybody else walking or taking public transit.

Feeding Our Fraud: “A landmark sentence”

8th August 2025

Power Line.

Abdiaziz Farah was convicted on 23 felony counts of conspiracy, fraud, and related crimes in the first of the Feeding Our Future trials last year. I covered the trial and reported the guilty verdict here at the time. The government asked for a 30-year sentence. Granting most of the government’s wish and agreeing with its argument in its entirety, Judge Nancy Brasel sentenced Farah in federal district court here yesterday to 28 years in prison.

Farah concocted the shocking juror bribery scheme that was discovered at the conclusion of his trial last year. He has pleaded guilty in the bribery case before Judge David Doty and will be sentenced separately for the offense. That sentence should be added to the 28 years he received yesterday.

I attended Farah’s sentencing hearing yesterday. The court was full of Farah’s family, supporters, and federal law enforcement agents who testified at trial. I sat in the press row immediately in front of Farah’s crying wife. It was quite a scene.

Culture-Enriching Rape in Perugia

An Afghan culture-enricher in the Italian city of Perugia evidently experienced a sexual emergency that caused him to force his unwanted attentions on a young university student from an unspecified Asian country. She was not able to stop the all-night attack, but she used her cell phone to make a partial recording of her ordeal, which helped the police successfully nab the perp.

Why Recognise Palestine Now?

8th August 2025

Quillette.

Most of the world’s nations now recognise a Palestinian state. In May 2024, the ranks of those nations were swelled by Spain, Ireland, and Norway. Under Emmanuel Macron and Keir Starmer, respectively, the French and British governments have now signalled their commitment to joining them in September. As conditions deteriorate in Gaza, one British government minister has even said that the UK should recognise the state of Palestine “while there is a state of Palestine left to recognise.”

Palestine is usually said to comprise Gaza and parts of the West Bank, with its capital in East Jerusalem. But in the real world, the West Bank enclave is ruled by Fatah, what remains of the Gaza Strip is still nominally ruled by Hamas, and East Jerusalem is not the capital of anything. With the two mutually hostile Palestinian parties locked in a frozen conflict, there is no prospect that either will hand over control to the other. And neither Hamas nor Fatah can be considered democratically legitimate because neither has held elections in decades.

In which it differs not at all from most of the Turd World.

FDA Approves Breakthrough Eye Drops That Fix Near Vision Without Glasses

7th August 2025

Read it.

VIZZ works by gently shrinking the pupil of the eye, using aceclidine. This creates a “pinhole effect” – like narrowing a camera lens — which helps bring nearby objects into sharper focus. Unlike older eye drops, this one does not significantly affect the eye’s focusing muscles, so it doesn’t blur your distance vision or cause that “zoomed-in” effect (aka a myopic shift).

Ultimately, the drops offer improved reading vision for up to 10 hours, without the need for glasses and, importantly, without the side effects of older treatments.

Taxpayers Spent $207 Million to Pay Bureaucrats to Work for Unions in Biden’s Final Year

7th August 2025

Read it.

Taxpayers spent $207 million to pay federal government employees not for their official government jobs but for hours worked for unions in the 2024 fiscal year, President Joe Biden’s final year in office.

According to data exclusively provided first to The Daily Signal, federal employees worked 3.2 million hours for unions in 2024, about 11.25% of their overall work time.

Federal employees can bill the taxpayer for working with unions by negotiating contracts, resolving disputes, or doing other work for the union. The Office of Personnel Management tracks how many hours employees bill the taxpayer for union work, and the OPM under President Donald Trump issued a March memo demanding the data.

“During the Biden administration, federal agencies spent millions bargaining sweetheart collective-bargaining agreements that imposed significant costs on the American taxpayer while impeding effective and efficient agency operations,” acting OPM Director Charles Ezell wrote in the memo. “Agencies paid for both the costs of their and their unions’ bargaining teams.”

Chinese Communist Party-Linked Exec Donated $50K to Democrat’s Gubernatorial Campaign

News broke Wednesday that a U.S.-based executive at a luxury electric carmaker gave tens of thousands of dollars to the campaign of Democrat Virginia gubernatorial candidate and former CIA officer Abigail Spanberger. Alana Goodman of The Washington Free Beacon first reported that Pin Ni, the president of Wanxiang America, donated $50,000 over two contributions to the Spanberger campaign. The donations occurred in April and May, according to campaign finance disclosures.

Churches Burn and Christians Face Beheadings in Africa

7th August 2025

Read it.

Radical Islamic groups are targeting and killing Christians in multiple African nations.

An ISIS affiliate, known as Islamic State Mozambique Province, is taking responsibility for recent beheadings of Christians in Mozambique and setting fire to homes and churches, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute, a research organization based in Washington, D.C.

On July 28, the Islamic State Mozambique Province claimed responsibility for capturing two Christians and beheading them. The ISIS-affiliated group said it attacked a Christian village on July 24, killing one person and setting fire to multiple homes, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute.

“What we see in Africa today is a kind of silent genocide or silent, brutal, savage war that is occurring in the shadows and all too often ignored by the international community,” Alberto Miguel Fernandez, vice president of the Middle East Media Research Institute, recently told Fox News Digital.

Christians never go out of their way to murder Muslims.

Muslims far too often go out of their way to murder Christians (and Jews).

Tunisian Knife Attacker Shot by Police in Germany

A 40-year-old Tunisian man with a Swedish residence permit was shot and injured by police in the German city of Wuppertal on Wednesday afternoon after a knife attack on a passerby.

The incident began around 3:30 p.m. when the man stole a butcher’s knife from a shop on Kaiserstraße in the city’s Vohwinkel district. Shortly after leaving the store, he attacked a 32-year-old man at random, causing minor injuries.

Police officers responding to a separate incident encountered the suspect near the Bruch suspension railway station. When he advanced toward them with the knife, they opened fire.

The suspect was seriously injured and taken to hospital for treatment. He was placed under provisional arrest, and officers are guarding him until he can be discharged and brought before a judge.

The Power of Gerrymandering

7th August 2025

Read it.

As you’ve probably heard, Texas Republicans have proposed redistricting their state to favor the Republican Party in their state legislature. Texas Democrats realize that they’ll lose this vote, so they’ve decided to do a series of town halls and other presentations around the state, explaining why gerrymandering is bad, and why the voters should put an end to this practice.

Ha! Just kidding, of course. Texas Democrats realize that they’ll lose this vote, so they left the state to prevent the Republicans from having a quorum, so they can’t pass anything. Ironically, they went to Illinois, which is one of the most heavily gerrymandered states in the country.

Rich Lowry has a great article up in which he points out that Illinois Republicans won nearly 44% of the vote, but only about 17% of the state House seats. California Republicans won nearly 40% of the vote, but only about 17% of the House seats.

Democrats don’t want to stop gerrymandering. They want to control gerrymandering because they understand how powerful it is. There are no Democrat states. There are only Democrat cities.

If Democrats don’t gerrymander, then Congress would more closely represent the views of the American people. This would obviously be disastrous for Democrats. So they don’t want to stop it. That would remove any influence they have in Congress. So all they can do is try to prevent the Republicans from doing the same thing.

I was talking to a Democrat patient yesterday – he was furious about Republican efforts to gerrymander Texas.  I agreed with him, saying that we should ban gerrymandering completely.  He looked at me for a second, then said, “You’re a Republican.  Of course you would say that.”

Imagine being a Democrat voter and supporting gerrymandering so that the American government will NOT represent the will of the people.

I’ve spent a lot of time over the past 10 years or so trying to understand the thinking of leftists.  I figured that once I understood their thought process, I would become more sympathetic to them.

I was wrong.

Guatemala First!

7th August 2025

Power Line.

When Donald Trump ran for president on an “America first” platform, it provoked howls of outrage from the Left. That struck me as bizarre: isn’t putting America first the president’s job description?

In the years that have gone by since 2016, it has become increasingly clear that one of our major parties, the Democrats, do not put America first. In fact, they will put pretty much anyone other than Americans first. Most notably, of course, illegal aliens.

Applying the principle that actions speak louder than words, we can see that most Democrats put America last. Usually, they don’t say it out loud, but occasionally, a Democrat will say the unsayable, perhaps in a foreign language. Thus, we have Rep. Delia Ramirez, a Democrat from Illinois, telling a crowd in Mexico City–in Spanish–“I’m a proud Guatemalan before I’m an American.”

We Didn’t Make It, Did We?

Dueling headlines from the New York Post. A dispatch from our nation’s capital,

Minors account for half of DC’s carjacking arrests since 2023 — including pint-sized perps as young as 12.

Yet, Democrats continue to lecture me about “local control.” The Post notes,

Since August 2023, DC police have collared 333 carjacking suspects and 56% of those busts were of kids under 18, figures from Metropolitan Police Department show.

And 60% of the juveniles arrested for stealing cars were 15 or 16 — but ages ranged from 17 to as young as 12, according to police records.

The Post notes that DOGE-sensation “Big Balls” was recently the victim of a vicious assault at the hands of around 10-or-so “youths” as he attempted to prevent a DC carjacking. Two 15-year-olds have been arrested in that case.

The Cincinnati Cop-Outs

7th August 2025

Victor Davis Hanson.

Recently, a large group of black youths began pummeling several white adults in downtown Cincinnati.
The original altercation apparently broke out between a black and white male in he-said/he-said fashion.
But that dispute soon turned into a virtual free-for-all.
Numerous male and female black youths sucker-punched a middle-aged woman and a man. Others continued to kick or body slam the victims, who were sprawled on their backs and seemingly unconscious.
There were many disturbing aspects to the beat-downs.
One, the violence broke out along racial and age fault lines. After the initial one-on-one dispute, groups of black youths swarmed solitary older white bystanders to pound them.
Two, the surrounding assembled group of black youths not only failed to intervene to restrain the bullies. They also recorded the beatings for social media and were heard cheering on the one-sided violence.
Three, there was neither a police presence nor any timely Good Samaritan interventions.
Instead, what ended the attacks was simply the fact that at least two of the targets appeared nearly comatose. So their assailants apparently concluded that their agenda of beating whites into unconsciousness was mostly complete.
Four, oddly few of the usual black spokespeople who habitually comment on interracial violence were to be seen.
During the fake Jussie Smollett attack, self-appointed leaders from Al Sharpton to Kamala Harris immediately issued warnings about so-called systemic white racism that had reared its ugly head to victimize Smollett.
Yet when it was revealed Smollett had concocted the entire charade—and even hired his own assaulters—there were few if any retractions from those once so eager to shout “racist!”
Such demagoguery is a well-known pattern dating back to the days of the Tawana Brawley rape hoax, the Duke Lacrosse charade, the Covington kids ruse, the Michael Ford “Hands-up-Don’t Shoot” fabrication, the “pseudo-transformation of George Zimmerman into a ‘white Hispanic,’” or the NASCAR noose fable.

Will the GOP Make Liberals Generous Again?

7th August 2025

Newsbusters.

Before politics overwhelmed the word, the primary meaning of “liberal” was “generous.”

President Donald Trump and the Republican Congress have given political liberals a chance to take that meaning back — by opening their wallets to show just how much they value NPR, PBS and other programs defunded by the GOP.

There’s no shortage of cash on the left:

Laurene Powell Jobs, the mega-rich backer of The Atlantic, has a net worth that was estimated above $11 billion a year ago and is thought to be even higher today.

George Soros, at 94, has a fortune in the vicinity of $7 billion, with billions more in his Open Society Foundations.

Bill Gates has about $115 billion, and his ex-wife, Melinda, around $30 billion.

Any one of these left-leaning billionaires could single-handedly make up the $535 million that NPR, PBS and local stations were getting annually from taxpayers before Congress zeroed out their subsidies.

And if half a billion a year is too much for one zillionaire, a half-dozen of them (or more) could share the burden without feeling a pinch.

But are wealthy liberals willing to put their money where their mouths are?

New Study Raises Concerns Over Universal Basic Income Plans

7th August 2025

Read it.

Various Democratic cities are already implementing UBI systems.

Now, a new study finds (as did some prior studies) that UBI systems have not achieved significant improvements and may actually have some negative consequences for recipients.

A working paper?with the National Bureau of Economic Research shows that UBI recipients did indeed spend more money, including a 13 percent increase on child-related expenses. There was also a slight increase in parental supervision of children.

However, there was no improved school performance and a slight increase in reported developmental and stress-related problems with children.

Stanford’s Basic Income Lab is tracking more than 160 UBI projects?in the U.S..

So far, the results are at best mixed.

Guess what? You get more of what you pay for. If you pay people to not-work, they won’t work.

But somebody has to pay for that. Guess who? The people who DO work.

Natural Selection is not mocked. Eventually this system will come apart, and the old ways will re-assert themselves.

Sometimes the old ways are best.

The Modern Slave

7th August 2025

Read it.

The genius of contemporary slavery isn’t the whip, it’s the W-2. It’s not the chain, it’s the mortgage payment. It’s not the overseer with a gun, it’s the IRS agent with a lien.

Think I’m being dramatic? Let’s examine the mechanics.

You surrender 30-50% of your labor before you ever see it. If you refuse, men with guns will eventually arrive at your door. The extraction is comprehensive and inescapable: earn money, pay income tax; own property, pay property tax; spend money, pay sales tax; save money, lose to inflation tax; invest successfully, pay capital gains tax; start a business, pay for licenses; run a profitable business, pay corporate tax; give money away, pay gift tax; die with assets, pay inheritance tax. Every economic action becomes a revenue opportunity for the system that owns your labor.

You can’t opt out of funding wars you oppose, surveillance systems that monitor you, or bureaucracies that regulate your choices. Your ‘property’ can be seized for unpaid taxes, even if you own it outright.

Historical slaves at least knew they were enslaved. The violence was visible, the coercion obvious, the enemy identifiable. Today’s slaves are convinced they’re consumers.

But here’s the real masterpiece: you’ve been convinced this is freedom.

Net Zero is dead in the United States and the last rites have been administered in the devastating official report from the Department of Energy. Released earlier this week, the report cancels the decades-long censorship imposed by so-called ‘settled’ climate science. It is compiled by five eminent scientists and is a systematic take-down of the claims, methodologies and motivations driving activist scientists, politicians and opinion formers promoting the hard-Left Net Zero fantasy. Despite its ground-breaking importance, to date it has been largely ignored by mainstream media including the BBC and Guardian.

Kyoto University Team Develops Pain Reliever Comparable to Morphine

Read it.

According to the team, the newly developed drug, Adriana, is a groundbreaking painkiller, which works on a completely different mechanism to morphine and other existing synthetic opioids. The drug has the potential to revolutionize pain control in the medical field, the team said.

The team also expects that the drug will help resolve the so-called opioid epidemic, in which a large number of deaths occur mainly due to overdoses of opioids.

Migrants Continue to Arrive in Small Boats After Starmer Deal With France

6th August 2025

Read it.

Around 155 small boat migrants crossed the English Channel on August 5th, the first day after the British government announced a new partial returns agreement with France.

The Border Force vessel Typhoon arrived at Dover harbor just before 1:30 p.m., carrying the first group of migrants intercepted that morning. At least 60 people were picked up just after 11:30 a.m., with 81 disembarking from the Typhoon at the Western Jet Foil, home to the Border Force migrant processing center. Fifteen minutes later, the vessel Ranger followed with 74 more migrants, mostly young men.

The surge in crossings came just one day after Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s government unveiled its migrant returns deal with France. The timing has prompted criticism that the agreement is doing little to deter illegal crossings.

Pack ’em up and send ’em back. The answer to this situation is obvious, as is the criminal incompetence of the people in charge of both the British and French governments.

French Prefect Warns Rampant Migrant Crime Plagues Rhône Cities

6th August 2025

Read it.

Fabienne Buccio, the prefect of France’s Rhône department, has fired warning shots about escalating crime rates tied to Algerian nationals in her region while expressing deep frustration over Algier’s persistent refusal to accept deportees. Her assessment reveals a growing crisis where offenders operate with what she describes as a “feeling of impunity,” knowing deportation efforts will likely fail.

Speaking in an interview making waves across French media, Buccio revealed alarming statistics: foreign-born individuals account for a staggering 60% of arrests in the Rhône department, which includes Lyon, France’s third-largest city. Even more striking is the fact that at least half of these arrestees are Algerian nationals.

Buccio explained the current system’s limitations: while some convicted criminals serve prison sentences, others are transferred to administrative detention centers (CRAs) after completing their terms to prevent their immediate return to the streets. “When I can place them in a CRA upon release from prison, I do it – because we can’t just put them straight back on the street,” she said. Judges have begun imposing the maximum 90-day detention period more frequently, but this temporary solution merely delays an unsolved problem.

DHS Honors More Than a Dozen Victims of Illegal-Alien Crime

6th August 2025

Read it.

t was a warm summer night in New Jersey, and Maria Santos Pleitez was driving her 11-year-old daughter and her daughter’s friend to get milkshakes when a drunken driver slammed into Pleitez’s vehicle, killing her and her daughter.

The other girl was injured, but survived the July 26 crash.

The man charged with driving the other vehicle was 43-year-old Raul Luna-Perez, an illegal alien from Mexico. Luna-Perez has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and assault by auto following the crash.

Pleitez, 42, and her daughter, Dayanara Cortes, are just two of the more than a dozen victims of illegal-alien crime the Department of Homeland Security is honoring the memories of this week.

“Behind every one of these crimes is a victim and their family left to rebuild their lives after unimaginable loss, suffering, and brutality,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said.

Elected officials who put non-citizens (and especially illegal invaders) ahead of citizens deserve to be in jail.

Federalizing DC

6th August 2025

The New Neo.

Everyone wants to fiddle with DC. The left wants to make it a state, or many states, since it is almost 100% Democrat and could easily tip the balance of Congressional power to the Democrats. Trump wants to federalize it, undoing what was done in 1973 (which totally escaped my notice at that time).

Give it back to Maryland, as they gave the Virginia half back to Virginia.

Selective Media Indignation: Which Scandals Get Defined as a ‘Distraction,’ Which Don’t

6th August 2025

The Foundry.

There’s something funny in scandal politics when people accuse each other of pushing a “distraction.” So if President Donald Trump tries to change the subject to Russia collusion-hoaxing, it’s a “distraction” from the media’s energetic Jeffrey Epstein obsession.

All this really proves is that the liberal media elites get unhappy whenever anyone tries to offer a different topic than the one they demand we all be magnetically focused on. The networks don’t want any contrary new information added to their narrative on how Trump won in 2016 with Russian assistance—if you’re not going to accept their original accusations of collusion.

Their framing is presented as the only acceptable framing, the one based in “reality.” The public is always supposed to be focused on Republican scandals. They’re the only ones that matter. Democrat scandals are reflexively dismissed as “no evidence” nothing-burgers, a smelly wastebasket of “unsubstantiated” junk.

It’s transparently partisan “news judgment.”
