After the liberal media initially refused to report that the murderer of University of Georgia student Laken Hope Riley was an illegal immigrant who was arrested multiple times, we have now reached the phase of the coverage where Republicans noticing the problem was the concerning issue of the story. That seemed to be the reaction CNN’s Jake Tapper had during Monday’s The Lead when he whined that “Republicans [were], obviously, seizing on this horrific tragedy.”
But before getting to bellyaching about Republicans calling attention to the crisis at the U.S./Mexico border that was literally getting people killed, Tapper openly admitted that it played a role in the murder. “And his status as an undocumented Venezuelan migrant is now renewing the debate over immigration policies,” he announced.
Apparently it’s not allowed to point out the consequences of stupid government policy … if it’s Democrat policy.

There are new reports saying Yemen’s Houthis have knocked out several underwater telecommunications cables linking Europe and Asia, however, some of the accounts of the extent of damage remain conflicting.
Multiple Israeli publications are reporting Monday that four underwater communications cables between Saudi Arabia and Djibouti have been damaged in recent months – the result of Houthi sabotage. The reporting appears to have originated in Israel’s financial daily outlet Globes.

Trump was indicted by Bragg on April 4, 2023, on 34 felony counts of allegedly falsifying business records related to his alleged payments of “hush money” to adult film actress Stephanie Clifford, known by her stage name of Stormy Daniels, to conceal an alleged extramarital affair with her.
On Monday, following Trump’s frequent criticism of the case and of Bragg, personally, the New York County District Attorney’s Office filed a notice of intent to bring a motion to prohibit Trump from making “extrajudicial statements” regarding the case, commonly known as a “gag order.”

Reaching over six miles in length, the tunnel lies beneath both the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital and Israa University, the military said in a release. It added that Hamas used the tunnel to move terrorists between parts of the enclave.
Israel has long claimed that Hamas uses civilian infrastructure for military purposes. Earlier this month, the IDF said it uncovered a data center for the group underneath the Gaza headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, the international body’s aid organization for Palestinian refugees.
The United States twice confirmed—once in November and once in January—that both Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, another terror group in Gaza, used Al Shifa Hospital, the largest medical facility in Gaza, as a command center.

Public universities in Texas are in the sights of the latest undercover investigation by the Accuracy in Media team to reveal schools’ flagrant disregard for the law in red states.
“Now that a number of states have prohibited DEI [diversity, equity, and inclusion] and critical race theory in higher education, we decided to take our cameras to those universities to find out if they were actually adhering to the law,” Adam Guillette, president of Accuracy in Media, told The Daily Signal in a recent interview.
“Not surprisingly, a half-dozen universities in Texas, funded by our tax dollars, had administrators that bragged to us about how they ignored the law,” Guillette said.

Jesalyn Harper, a City of Reedley code enforcement officer, had to determine whether to turn off the power to a secret Chinese biolab in California in order to prevent a fire that inspectors had said was a risk.
But with the power off, the freezers’ contents would thaw, with potentially dangerous consequences. The biolab was full of thousands of vials of possible infectious pathogens.
She called the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for advice.
“It was a very short-lived and frustrating phone call that ended with them hanging up,” said Ms. Harper.
She left the power on.

Islam has long been a religion determined to expand to encompass the world. Initially that was done mostly by the sword, and Muslims had their sights on Europe. Spain was an early target and a successful one, and they controlled that area for many hundreds of years, whereas the later Muslim expansion from the east was only stopped at Vienna in 1683.
In recent years the conquest of Europe has been “soft.” No Muslim country could conquer Europe through regulation warfare. Some of the Muslim arrivals in recent years are just people looking for a better way of life. But some – and the numbers are not small – are determined to bring their former way of life to their new home.
Right now England seems to be losing and even seems to have lost the battle. I recommend two articles about that. The first appears in Commentary and is written by Seth Mandel; the second is by Melanie Phillips and is at her Substack.
Another reminder that Islam is an oppressive totalitarian ideology, under the guise of a religion, with which no co-existence is possible.

Mothers inadvertently are exposing their young daughters to male predators on Instagram in a quest to garner money and fame, an investigation published Thursday by The New York Times found.
The Instagram accounts, numbering in the thousands, reveal how social media platforms are altering the definition of childhood and the increasing commodification of young girls, the Times found. In some cases, mothers managing the accounts actively sell photographs, previously worn outfits, and chat sessions with their underage daughters.
Top patrons are willing to spend thousands of dollars to foster inappropriate relationships with these children, often resulting in abuse, according to the Times. In some cases, men flirt, torment, and extort the daughters and parents into providing increasingly scandalous photos.

Now, after seeing their potential resale value—with some sellers listing them online for as much as $45,000—Mr. Hardy wishes he had purchased three pairs instead of one.

On one of my first days at The New York Times, I went to an orientation with more than a dozen other new hires. We had to do an icebreaker: Pick a Starburst out of a jar and then answer a question. My Starburst was pink, I believe, and so I had to answer the pink prompt, which had me respond with my favorite sandwich. Russ & Daughters’ Super Heebster came to mind, but I figured mentioning a $19 sandwich wasn’t a great way to win new friends. So I blurted out, “The spicy chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A,” and considered the ice broken.
The HR representative leading the orientation chided me: “We don’t do that here. They hate gay people.” People started snapping their fingers in acclamation. I hadn’t been thinking about the fact that Chick-fil-A was transgressive in liberal circles for its chairman’s opposition to gay marriage. “Not the politics, the chicken,” I quickly said, but it was too late. I sat down, ashamed.

Whenever Dennis Wilson wants to take a drive in his new SUV, he has to set aside an extra 15 minutes. That’s about how long it takes to remove the car’s steering wheel club, undo four tire locks and lower a yellow bollard before backing out of his driveway.
His Honda CR-V is also fitted with two alarm systems, a vehicle tracking device and, for good measure, four Apple AirTags. Its remote-access key fob rests in a Faraday bag, to jam illicit unlocking signals.
As a final touch, he mounted two motion-sensitive floodlights on his house and aimed them at the driveway in his modest neighborhood in Toronto.
But all of these security gadgets, Mr. Wilson is convinced, will do no more than delay what seems inevitable: Toronto’s seasoned auto thieves won’t be deterred by the defensive gear, and they’ll make off with this Honda SUV just as they did with its predecessor — and its insurance replacement, which they returned to steal.
“By no means do I think that I’ve stopped them,” Mr. Wilson said. “All I’ve done is made it take an extra 10 minutes to steal my car.”

For those who are unfamiliar with the Cargo Cult, it appeared in various forms in Melanesia during the early to mid-20th Century. The best known, and the one to which Dr Feynman refers, was the John Frum Movement. During World War II, these cultists observed the belligerents using aircraft to move cargo, either by air-drop or landing on airstrips. Wanting this wealth for themselves, though knowing nothing about aviation, they tried to replicate factors they had observed.

In the era of Big Tech ‘Cloud-ism’ or ‘Late Capitalism,’ the de facto three branches of government are mass media, intelligence, and finance. And if we add municipal authority to Montesquieu’s trio, its parody, replacing the town square and marketplace, would be Big Tech’s digital platforms.
Drawing these four cardinal functions together is the idea of an ‘everything app,’ which threatens to concentrate our ability to receive information (media), manage our bank accounts (finance), and make purchases and express opinions (online platforms), all while tracking the citizenry (intelligence).
On one level, the incentive here is convenience. The advantage of an ‘everything app’ isn’t that all these functions will be in one place (your phone’s screen is already one place), but that you can carry out online activities (buy train tickets, get food delivered, check your bank statement, send a message to someone) without having an account with each activity’s service’s provider.

Former President Trump won the South Carolina primary on Saturday, clobbering Nikki Haley by twenty points. Haley, of course, was the governor of the state and pitched herself as the local favorite. Despite all evidence to the contrary, the anti-Trump elements in the Republican ecosystem thought Haley had a chance to upset Trump in her home state and thus bring about the collapse of Trump. Instead, Saturday should be the end of the Haley campaign.
Whether or not Haley drops out of the race is an open question. The Koch network announced they would stop funding this ridiculous project in order to focus on other ridiculous projects. Typically, this sort of announcement is a signal to the rest of the donors and the media that the project is finished. The usual suspects, however, never abandon a project. They still think we should have troops in Iraq in order to spread democracy, so they will stick with Haley.
Nevertheless, the attention will now shift from Haley to the prospect of Trump securing the nomination and what can be done to stop it. That last part is the important part, as the usual suspects never accept defeat. Paul Ramsey has a short video up explaining the various lawfare shenanigans they have ready to stop Trump. What lies ahead now is not the normal progress toward the candidate securing the nomination, but a series a political witch trials intended to jail an opposition candidate.

The Shirky principle is the adage that “institutions will try to preserve the problem to which they are the solution”. More broadly, it can also be characterized as the adage that “every entity tends to prolong the problem it is solving”.
For example, the Shirky principle means that a government agency that’s meant to address a certain societal issue may hinder attempts by others to address the issue, in order to ensure that the agency remains relevant. Alternatively, the agency may become so focused on the current way in which it addresses the issue that it will fail to adopt better new solutions as they become available, thus prolonging the issue.
The Shirky principle has important implications in various domains, so it’s important to understand it. As such, in the following article you will learn more about this principle, and see what you can do about it in practice.

Russia was unable to recruit, mobilize or conscript enough Russians to fight in Ukraine. Even before the end of 2023, Russia sought ways to deal with this problem. One solution was recruiting 15,000 Nepalese men to fight in Ukraine. The Nepalese Russia recruited were not from the Gurkha region. Gurkha soldiers are much in demand as mercenaries and battalions of them serve in the British and Indian armies. Gurkhas were not interested in fighting for the Russians in Ukraine, so the Russians turned to non- Gurkha Nepalese who needed a job, any job, even if it was a dangerous one. The Nepal recruits were given little training when they entered Russian service in mid-2023. The Nepal troops were soon in Ukraine where they suffered casualties. At least ten were known to have died and there are probably more dead. Four Nepalese soldiers were captured by Ukrainian forces and held as prisoners of war. Families back in Nepal have appealed to Nepalese politicians to find a way they can contact their men in Ukraine. Russia does not provide any way for their Nepal mercenaries to send or receive mail to anyone in Nepal. That led Nepal to ban any more Russian recruiting in Nepal. Earlier Cuba did the same when Russian tried to recruit Cuban men to fight as mercenaries in Ukraine.

Indian farmer protests restarted in early 2024 as talks on the producers’ demands to set more legally binding minimum support prices for agricultural products have broken down.
The borders of city state and capital Delhi have been fortified but farmers from surrounding areas seem determined to push past the barricades this week armed with heavy equipment, supplies and masks to fend off tear gas deployed by police. Ahead of the presidential elections in April and May, farmers once again want to make their grievances heard. Similar protests rocked India previously in 2020 and 2021 as farmers vehemently opposed opening up the system of government-controlled wholesale markets – so-called mandis – and limiting minimum support prices. They eventually succeeded in having laws withdrawn.
However, as Statista’s Katharina Buchholz reports, while guaranteed minimum prices provide security for farmers to at least sell some of their harvest at a profit, few farmers have actually been able to take advantage of the system in the past. This is tied to the fact that the government’s ability to buy and redistribute agricultural products is limited.

The point that needs to be made is that progressive consider both ‘Christian’ and ‘Nationalist’ to be Bad Things, so combining them in a smear-phrase (like ‘war profiteering’ or ‘black market’) is a natural way to create a rhetorical stick to beat people who are on the ‘wrong side of history’. The chief function of the Narrative media is to distort the language to serve their political agenda, and then hammer is home so obsessively that people who aren’t compulsive followers of politics and are trying just to get on with their lives will accept such distortions as the truth. In such an endeavor, intellectual Quislings like David French are key players.

“Circumstances beyond our control” led to the cancelation of the event in Peterborough, Ontario, that had been planned by INSPIRE, a women’s empowerment organization, the group told kawarthaNOW, a local online publication, this week.
The cancelation came just days after a Jewish Telegraphic Agency report that INSPIRE had rescinded its speaking invitation to Leah Goldstein, a Jewish motivational speaker and the first woman to win a grueling 3,000- mile bicycle race across the United States. It cited as the reason “a small but growing and extremely vocal group” that took issue with Goldstein’s IDF service more than 30 years ago.

When someone emerges from a challenging childhood to become a successful adult and writes a memoir about the experience, one of two narratives usually emerges: The first, and most lucrative in today’s market, is what might be called the “wallowing” narrative. Such books settle personal and familial scores; recount excessive drug use, promiscuity, and other poor life choices; and leave readers with a voyeurism hangover.
The second approach tells a tale of plucky courage and upward mobility, with the memoirist expressing gratitude for having been one of the “lucky ones,” who rose from chaos into order and is now eager to impart practical life lessons to others. This is the “inspirational bootstraps” narrative.
In Troubled: A Memoir of Foster Care, Family, and Social Class, Rob Henderson does neither. Instead, he makes a crucial contribution not only to the modern art of memoir-writing, but to ongoing debates about class, merit, and success in the United States.
Whining and playing the victim is very profitable these days.

The PBS NewsHour again demonstrated its fealty to “trans” issues, while adding yet another new definition into the brave new mix, in a Thursday evening story on the tragic case of Nex Benedict, a “non-binary” Oklahoma student who died mysteriously one day after a fight in a school restroom.
How much of a stretch is it to suspect that if the details of this ‘mysterious’ death actually came out, we would see that there’s nothing mysterious about it at all?

A town hall hosted by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. touting the apparent benefits of the Green New Deal ended up turning some attendees red with anger on Thursday.
The socialist lawmaker was speaking at an event in Queens in New York City where she was heckled by two attendees who accused her of caring more about illegal immigrants than those whom she was elected to represent. One of the hecklers, Jonathan David Rinaldi, said he is challenging Ocasio-Cortez for her congressional seat.
“My name is Jonathan David Rinaldi and I’m running for Congress against AOC, the Green New Deal is a scam,” Rinaldi shouted as Ocasio-Cortez was championing environmental justice provisions and climate change policies under the deal.
The problem with electing an ideologue to represent you is that he or she won’t do that, but rather represent their ideology.

Republican lawmakers lashed out at the Biden administration over its lax border policies after a Venezuelan national who allegedly entered the United States illegally was arrested for killing a Georgia nursing student.
Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, was arrested Friday in connection to the murder of Laken Riley whose body was discovered near a lake on the University of Georgia campus the previous day.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) offered prayers for Riley’s family and friends before tearing into President Biden for his administration’s policies leading to the 22-year-old’s murder.
BLM and Antifa rioted for months because of the death of drug addict and felon George Floyd; notice how nothing happens when the victim is an innocent white female college student.
