The Left has found its newest implausible scapegoat for a crime wave that began in 2020; namely, foreign car companies.
A recent editorial column in The New York Times, “Kia and Hyundai Helped Enable a Crime Wave. They Should Pay for It,” has been part of a spate of national and local media stories blaming the massive surge in car thefts on the Korean automaker. (Kia is owned by Hyundai.)
A number of blue cities beset by crime and auto thefts have decided to sue the automakers following the success of a class-action lawsuit earlier this year. On the list of cities suing Kia and Hyundai are Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, and New York.
The contention here is that it’s the fault of the South Korean car companies for making some of their vehicles too easy to steal.

Two separate reports published this week have both sounded the alarm over a rising number of migrants arriving in Europe. In its Risk Analysis for 2023/2024, the European Union’s border agency, Frontex, warns that “geopolitical instability in countries to the east and south of Europe may result in large-scale refugee outflows.” These “could pose a severe challenge to the EU’s capacity to host these populations and strain local people’s willingness to help.”

Today, we are witnessing the nudging (manipulation) of the population to accept a ‘new normal’ based on a climate emergency narrative, restrictions on movement and travel, programmable digital money, ‘pandemic preparedness’ courtesy of the World Health Organization’s tyrannical pandemic treaty, unaccountable AI and synthetic ‘food’.
Whether it involves a ‘food transition’, an ‘energy transition’, 15-minute cities or some other benign-sounding term, all this is to be determined by a supranational ‘stakeholder’ elite with ordinary people sidelined in the process. An undemocratic agenda designed to place restrictions on individual liberty, marking a dramatic shift towards authoritarianism.

Slovenia saw a large influx of “refugees” during and after the Great Migration Crisis of 2015. However, those masses of culture-enrichers were largely transient — they were passing through Slovenia on their way to greener pastures in Austria, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, and other points to the north and west of Slovenia. The same could be said of the other countries on the Balkan Route — Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, etc. The migrants would pass through their territory, and maybe engage in a little robbery and rape when the opportunity arose, and then move on to the next country, leaving a lot of rubbish and filth in their wake.
A network of asylum facilities was set up in Slovenia to handle the transient culture-enrichers streaming north to the Promised Land; one such facility is in the town of Logatec.

Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky has questioned the credibility of a doctor’s notes asserting that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is in good health, according to comments reported by Politico on Tuesday.
McConnell, age 81, has faced several public health scares in 2023, the most recent being when he froze while speaking with reporters in Kentucky on Aug. 30.
Paul, a physician and ophthalmologist, suggested that McConnell is suffering from a neurological issue, even as the attending physician of Congress has denied that McConnell’s freeze was prompted by serious health concerns, according to a report by Politico.
“You know I’ve practiced medicine for over 20 years, I’ve seen people who are dehydrated. What’s occurring, from what I’ve seen, is a neurological event, it’s not dehydration,” Paul said, according to Politico. “I think my advice would be to be more forthcoming with what’s going on.”

The American Mind.
To paraphrase Karl Marx, a specter is haunting the United States and the Western world more broadly: the specter of woke despotism. Most disturbingly, its epicenter is in the United States, a land once gloriously immune from the ideological and totalitarian temptations that so haunted and deformed European politics in the 20th century. As Christopher Rufo demonstrates in his indispensable new book, America’s Cultural Revolution, the woke revolution has been gaining traction for a very long time and is now on the cusp of “controlling everything,” from our universities and corporations to the prestige media to the increasingly censorious network of “social media” that stands in for civic discourse in the United States today.

Denunciations of “dog-whistle politics” are now a familiar part of contemporary public discourse. The metaphor refers to the high-pitched sound that calls canines but cannot be heard by humans, and it is used to imply that an apparently neutral policy or argument is actually a subtle or coded appeal to the biases of a select audience. Deploying politically coded messages in this way is a serious accusation, evidenced in a sample of recent headlines: “Politicians Should Stop Using Confusion Over Trans Issues as a Dog Whistle for Intolerance” (from the Globe and Mail), “The QAnon Dog Whistle at the SCOTUS Confirmation Hearings” (from the Atlantic), “Aitchison Condemns Lewis’ Nuremberg Email as ‘Dog Whistle’ to COVID Vaccine Critics” (from CTVNews), “Haley Sounds Her Dog Whistles As She Makes a Play for the MAGA Base” (from the Washington Post), “Backlash Against ‘Dog Whistle’ Labour Tweet About Rishi Sunak” (from the Daily Telegraph), et cetera, et cetera.
The term’s origins are murky, but it made an early appearance in a 1988 remark by Washington Post pollster Richard Morin, who warned that a “dog whistle effect” should be considered in answers to the paper’s surveys when “respondents hear something in the question that researchers do not.” Twelve years later, Australian journalist Tony Wright was among the first to use the term as a reproach, when he wrote about Australian Prime Minister John Howard, whose views on immigration and Aboriginal issues were supposedly playing to white nativism:
It’s funny how Narrative media ‘journalists’ can hear these ‘dog whistles’ when most other people can’t. (Remember: If you hear the ‘dog whistle’, then you’re the dog.)

Displays of cultural diversity have yet again broken out in the multiethnic utopia of Sweden
Otherwise known as migrant riots, the latest violence has erupted in Malmo following a Quran burning by an ‘Anti-Islam activist’ according to the BBC.
“A group of angry protesters tried to stop the burning, which resulted in a showdown between them and police,” the report states.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell did not suffer a stroke or seizure after his latest freeze in public, according to a doctor’s note released by his office on Tuesday and shared with the Daily Caller News Foundation.
McConnell, R-Ky., 81, froze during a press conference in Kentucky on Aug. 30 and was unable to continue speaking before being led away, the second such instance that has occurred in public. After McConnell’s office published a note from the office of the Attending Physician of United States Congress that cleared him to continue his public schedule, his office published a second note on Tuesday that clarified the freeze was not the result of a seizure or stroke.
And if you believe that one, they’ll tell you another one.

Pauline Kael knew she wasn’t a representative American.
The onetime New Yorker film critic is famous in folk memory for having said she didn’t know anyone who voted for Richard Nixon in 1972, when he won a 49-state landslide.
The way her words are misremembered, she was surprised that someone so reviled by her social set could win the White House.
In fact, she wasn’t surprised: Kael told the Modern Language Association in a Dec. 28 speech that year, “I live in a rather special world. I only know one person who voted for Nixon. Where they (i.e., Nixon voters) are I don’t know. They’re outside my ken.”
Kael’s example is worth keeping in mind when thinking about next year’s election.

Thirteen years ago Thilo Sarrazin was reviled and cancelled for daring to suggest that Germany, through its disastrous migration policies, was in the process of abolishing itself.
Well, now it’s pretty much official: Germany has abolished itself. I assume that being able to say “I told you so” is cold comfort for Mr. Sarrazin in his role as a German Cassandra.
An arrogant Iranian-German woman named Naika Foroutan has written a book in which she admonishes Germans “who have lived here for a longer time” to get used to the fact that their country no longer belongs to them.

ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos was surprised by a new Wall Street Journal poll that showed President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump tied at 46% in a potential 2024 rematch. The survey of 1500 registered voters was conducted August 24-30.
On Sunday’s edition of “This Week,” Stephanopoulos said, “It is kind of shocking in a way that despite all of the baggage that Donald Trump carries, he’s tied with Joe Biden right now.
His “shock” is evidence that Trump Derangement Syndrome is a very real thing and it is blinding Democrats to Biden’s obvious vulnerabilities. It allows them to ignore the fact that the president of the United States has become the laughingstock of the world. He’s barely able to read a speech off of a teleprompter, often butchering and even slurring his words, particularly when he tries to speak fast.
