Steve notes that the liberal media are trying to make some kind of hero out of new Justice Ketanji Brown-Jackson. Good luck with that: based on what we have seen so far, I would assess her as incompetent.
Her dissent in the UNC race discrimination case was awful. It was one long political screed, devoid of legal argument and oblivious to the standards (the 14th Amendment and Title VI) that she was supposed to be applying. Also, she can’t deal honestly or competently with data.

Allowing a psychopath to form a private army of violent criminals may not, on reflection, have been Vladimir Putin’s greatest idea. But Yevgeny Prigozhin’s mutinous Wagner Group is by no means the only private army operating in Russia. Over the past couple of months no fewer than five armies have been fighting on Russian soil. Only one of them, the official Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, is directly subordinate to the Kremlin.

Muslim immigrants in Europe seem to have a thing for deadly dramas involving apartment balconies. Culture-enrichers in Sweden are notorious for “accidents” in which teenage girls suddenly fall to their deaths from balconies after dating infidel boys, or balking at marrying their cousins.

ike a cup of coffee, the Guardian newspaper acts on me in the morning like a tonic, increasing my alertness after sleep. For example, I read the following this morning, shortly after I regained consciousness:
Matt Rowland Hill, 38, is the author of Original Sins, about growing up as the son of a baptist minister before falling into a decade-long addiction to heroin while studying at Oxford.
I have not read Mr Rowland Hill’s book, which I am perfectly prepared to believe is a very good one. But he did not fall into a decade-long addiction; he knowingly chose to become and remain addicted, for whatever reason he might have had. He jumped into it.
The author is not stupid or an ignoramus. It is impossible that he did not know that heroin was addictive before he first took it. One does not become addicted to it on a first dose: most heroin addicts, in fact, take it on and off for some time before they are physically addicted.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is big business these days, and even though we all know it does more harm than good, the industry is set to expand from an estimated $3 billion in 2020 to a whopping $17 billion by 2027. Those who want a piece of the action are vying for access to your children as close to in utero as humanly possible. Whether it’s drag queen ‘story time,’ demanding children accept 73 genders, schools encouraging 4-year-olds to ‘gender transition’ without parental consent, or ‘Maoist’ consultants ‘decolonising’ the minds of nursery school children by telling them they’re racist, the ‘woke’ Gestapo takes no prisoners.
Cue Bright Horizons, a £4.7 billion, U.S.-based company which runs 1,000 childcare facilities globally, and appears to be setting out its diversity stall in an already crowded marketplace. The company came to the attention of the British press over the weekend, when it was accused by a Kent mother of having a “left-wing campaigning agenda” and “dictating to parents their own political views on how to raise their children.”

Scott wrote here about the riots that have paralyzed France for five days. Reuters reports that thousands of rioters have been arrested, rioters have burned 2,000 vehicles, 200 police officers have been injured, and more than 700 businesses have been looted, ransacked or burned to the ground.
All of this was triggered by the death of a 17-year-old named Nahel Merzouk who was shot by a police officer following a traffic stop. But what exactly happened leading up to the shooting? And who was Nahel Merzouk? The liberal London Times has a reasonably honest account.
Apparently the Muslim kid that was shot hadn’t had a chance to view the Chris Rock video “How Not To Get Your Ass Kicked By The Police“.

Ah, the beauty of two nations divided by a common language. When Brits say “Asians,” they formally mean anybody from the whole bloody continent of Asia (but probably not Russians except for those of the Russian Far East), but typically they mean Pakistani men of military age.
Of which the UK is now chock-full, due to Tony Blair’s attempt to import a permanent Labour majority.
When Americans say “Asians,” we formally and typically mean orientals, that is the CJK crowd and anybody else with stereotypically fair (“yellow”) skin and an epicanthic fold (part of the “slanted eyes” feature). We have different terms for Pacific Islanders, Southeast Asians, Central Asians (The Stans), Indo-Paki types, Middle Easterners, and the Turk.
Typically divided between “East Asians” and “South Asians”.

In accounting we have a thing called Good Will. That’s an intangible asset. Take a company with a super well established name and track record. There’s no physical asset for the name, Coke a Cola or McDonald’s, but there’s an asset value for how incredibly well known those are, and that needs to get accounted for in the valuation. Companies like that aren’t valuable just because they own stores or factories or lots of inventory, but because everybody knows who they are. Basically Good Will exists because customers know who you are, what you do, and generally like that. With big corporations, Good Will is worth billions.
Good Will goes down when companies turn off those customers, or the name starts to have negative connotations and they become less valuable (Anhauser Busch for a recent example).
The Star Wars novels are a perfect example of this. That was once the biggest and most beloved IP on Earth. Novels in that setting should be a license to print money. The Good Will was off the charts. A reboot was a chance to kinda forget the worst of previous products, and come out the gate strong with quality products. In a sane world, the novels of an IP that big should crush the rest of us by orders of magnitude, just off of name recognition and customers being inclined toward checking out products from that brand.
Nope. They went the opposite direction.

Minnesota’s Department of Human Rights released a statement on the Supreme Court’s 303 Creative decision, which I wrote about here. First the statement, then some comments on it:
So, what exactly has the Supreme Court done that the State of Minnesota think is a blow to gay people’s civil rights? If a gay couple is getting married and they go to a web designer to set up a page to celebrate their romance, there is a possibility the web designer might say, “Sorry, I don’t do gay weddings.” The horror!
The real horror, I suppose, is having to acknowledge that some people are still not in favor of gay marriage. Just a few years ago, a large majority of Americans were opposed to gay marriage. Barack Obama was opposed to gay marriage. Remember? Gay marriage won the day, and liberals like those who run the Human Rights Department now insist that the verdict be deemed unanimous. But it isn’t.

Riots have convulsed France over the past five nights. The New York Times reports, for example, in a story published in the past two hours “France Arrests Hundreds More in Fifth Night of Unrest.” President Macron scrapped an official trip to Germany in light of the riots, though not before he made it to the Elton John concert in Paris.
The occasion this time around is the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy of North African descent identified as Nahel M. this past Tuesday. Some 45,000 police officers have been deployed across the country for the past two evenings. Although the news reports are not helpful on this point, I take it that the rioters come largely from France’s large Muslim community.

As we head to Independence Day and a celebration of this nation’s founding, the angry chorus of haters with idle hands and minds gets loud. They prefer we dwell on the nation’s sins and ignore our great progress toward an always more perfect union. No longer just angry academics and activists, the press too has joined the act. It is a reminder that the secular religion that dominates cultural institutions is a religion without grace or forgiveness, perpetually anchored in the grievances of the past.
The New York Times produced its 1619 Project to, in the words of its creator, retell the story of our founding. She claimed it was not to be taken as true fact, but narration. She recast the United States and its revolution as about the preservation of slavery. Widely criticized by historians across the political perspective, the damage was done and proudly so. Many people who had grievance and needed a story around which to weave their grievance latched on to the false claims.
The fabulists ignored the Northern colonies moving against slavery long before Great Britain did. They ignored the writings of our founders, including Thomas Jefferson, who knew the institution of slavery undermined the words “all men are created equal” and would have to end. They ignored the reparations paid in blood on battlefields across America as white men from the North killed their kin from the South to set slaves free.

Gates of Vienna.
Massive culture-enriching riots in France are continuing into the weekend. The largest group of conflagrations is in Paris and its immediate environs, but copycat riots are springing up all over the country.
The situation is reminiscent of the riots in Clichy-sous-Bois (another suburb of Paris) in 2005. Back then two culture-enrichers fled from the police and crawled into an electrical substation to hide, whereupon they were electrocuted. It wasn’t even the police who fried them — it was their own stupidity. But “youths” set Clichy-sous-Bois on fire anyway.
Eighteen years later their numbers are much greater, and they’re setting the whole country on fire.
The following brief clip shows a Muslim “youth” exhorting his fellow rioters to kill the police. The important thing to note is the Koranic justification for the killings. Muslims don’t try to hide the role their religion plays in deadly violence, but the Western media hide it from their audience — you won’t see evidence like this on major TV outlets.
Wherever you go,
Whatever you do,
A Muslim waits there
To try to kill you.

Americans who came of age during the pandemic are skipping college in big numbers. Many have shunned traditional college paths, turning instead to hourly jobs or careers that don’t require a degree. Still others feel locked out, deterred by high tuition and the prospect of student debt. Colleges nationwide saw undergraduate enrollments drop 8% from 2019 to 2022, with continued declines even after the return to in-person classes, according to data from the National Student Clearinghouse. Economists say the impact could be dire. Fewer college graduates could worsen labor shortages in fields from health care and engineering to information technology.
Fewer college graduates would mean that a college degree would actually mean something.
