U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) told the Israeli government she doesn’t want the bipartisan Senate delegation she is leading to Israel this week to meet with any members of two Israeli far-right parties that are in the government coalition, according to two Israeli officials and a source close to the senator.
I guess the Democrat understanding of ‘bipartisan’ doesn’t include any Heretics or Sinners. Very kind of them to even include Republicans.

Six people including a six-month-old baby cradled in the arms of her 17-year-old mother were shot dead at a home in California’s main agricultural valley on Monday in what authorities called a targeted attack and “horrific massacre.”
…
The bodies of the infant and 17-year-old mother were located in a ditch outside the home, Boudreaux later told the Los Angeles Times. Both had gunshot wounds to the head.

In Britain and much of the Western world the vast majority of people are not racist. This will include people who have told, or laughed at, jokes based on race. These same people will have never done anything to harm another race, and would be revolted to see racial abuse in front of them, instinctively siding with the victim. This has in fact been true in Britain for many generations.
It is a historical fact that US servicemen during WWII were shocked by the British disregard for race and willingness to mingle freely with black or other non-white soldiers. It is also a historical fact that the Empire which is now routinely characterised as exclusively evil and racist was enthusiastically supported, entirely willingly, by generations of non-white and non-British people, so much so that many of them fought and died for it.

Newly released data from Germany’s federal government, controlled by the three-party, left-liberal ‘traffic light’ coalition, has revealed that the number of migrants seeking asylum in the country—excluding Ukrainian refugees—has climbed to levels not previously seen since the 2016 European migrant crisis.
The figures, released on Wednesday, January 11th, in a report by Germany’s Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), indicated that the Federal Republic of Germany registered 217,774 first-time asylum applications in the year 2022, the most of any European Union member state. The number represents a 46.9% uptick compared to the previous year, and the highest number of applicants since 2016, the Hamburg-based newspaper Die Zeit reports.
The figure does not include the approximately one million Ukrainian refugees who have traveled to Germany following the onset of the Russo-Ukrainian war in February 2022.

We wrote here about a task force of the State of California that is developing a proposal to pay reparations to the state’s black residents, to the tune of perhaps $800,000 apiece. But that is chump change compared with what is being demanded in San Francisco.
The City of San Francisco appointed an African American Reparations Advisory Committee which delivered its draft Plan in December. The Plan is embedded below, so you can peruse it at your leisure. It acknowledges, as it must, that neither the State of California nor the City of San Francisco ever countenanced slavery, but nevertheless claims that San Francisco has systemically discriminated against blacks from the beginning. And, of course, the “legacy” of such discrimination is still felt today, reflected in every “disparity” that is to the disadvantage of blacks.
On the whole, the document comes across as whinier than Prince Harry’s memoir. But for now, let’s focus on the proposed remedy. News accounts have reported that the Plan provides that San Francisco blacks should get $5 million apiece. Currently, San Francisco’s population is 895,000, of whom around 5% are classified as African-American. Assuming those numbers, around 44,750 people would get $5 million apiece, for a total of $223,750,000,000. Each San Franciscan who is not a recipient of reparations would be on the hook for approximately $263,000, or a little over $1 million for a family of four. (I know, there aren’t many families of four in San Francisco, but you get the idea.)

In an economy characterized by limited government and individual liberty people are self-supporting. They provide the means to pay for these needs through the fruits of their own labors. Minors are supported by their families until they can provide for themselves. The elderly may fall back on their kids if they didn’t squirrel away enough nuts during their working years.
In an economy characterized by central planning this is not the case. Large segments of the population are dependent on government programs for their daily bread. They also look to the benevolent hand of government to pay for their drugs and other medical needs.
The U.S., over the last 100 years, has transformed from a nation of self-supporting individuals to a nation of collective dependents. In fact, the U.S., at this very moment, is closing in on a significant milestone.
Several days before the Ides of March, 100 million people – or approximately 30 percent of the total population – will be on Medicaid. Can you believe it?

Sweden and Finland must deport or extradite up to 130 “terrorists” to Turkey before the Turkish parliament will approve their bids to join NATO, President Tayyip Erdogan said.
The two Nordic states applied last year to join NATO following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine but their bids must be approved by all 30 NATO member states. Turkey and Hungary have yet to endorse the applications.
Turkey has said Sweden in particular must first take a clearer stance against what it sees as terrorists, mainly Kurdish militants and a group it blames for a 2016 coup attempt.
Why do we still have NATO? And why is Turkey a part of it?

On Martin Luther King Day, everybody loves Martin Luther King … except me.
The reason I dislike Martin Luther King is because he was a totalitarian fascist.
King was a fascist in that he thought it perfectly appropriate for the government to dictate to businessmen how they conduct their business: Whom they can buy from, whom they can sell to, whom they must admit to their premises, even what sort of products they can carry.
People get all hot and bothered by King’s statements about what ought to matter is the content of one’s character rather than the color of one’s skin. But actions speak louder than words. It doesn’t matter so much what King said as what he did: His entire program was based on forcing people to deal with others based entirely on the color of their skin. If person X has a black or brown skin, you have to deal with him; his (or her) character has nothing to do with it. Is he a petty criminal who is intending to rob you, like Michael Brown? Too bad; you have to let him in your store. Is he a drug addict hopped up on fentanyl and God knows what else, like George Floyd? Too bad; you have to deal with him.
King’s whole program, and that of the Social Justice Wokery that arose out of it, is essentially totalitarian. The fundamental characteristic of a totalitarian is that he (or she) believes that he (or she) is entitled to dictate how you live your life, whether you like it or not, whether you agree or not. You may not choose what you do, you may not choose what you say, you may not choose what you think, but those choices are made by the totalitarian.
Totalitarianism violates one of the most fundamental of human freedoms: The freedom of association. This was considered one of the ‘rights reserved to the people’ in the Constitution until the rise of the modern corporate state. If I don’t want to associate with person X, that ought to be my right, regardless of my reason for doing so (that’s what a RIGHT is all about). This is why American culture has been on the downward slope ever since the so-called Civil Rights Movement of the sixties.
If we’re going to have a holiday to celebrate Martin Luther King, then why not one to celebrate Benito Mussolini? It’s only fair. The only substantial difference between them is … the color of their skin.

Leftists, perhaps thinking their war on reliable energy is well in hand, are now making war on scientific agriculture. The war has two main elements: opposition to fertilizers, without which billions of people could not be fed, and hostility toward animal husbandry. Leftists don’t want you to eat meat.
When you tell people that liberals’ end game is for them to eat bugs, they sometimes think you can’t be serious. Those are the people who aren’t paying attention. This article in an ostensible scientific site, is typical: “Making the case for using insects as food for both humans and livestock.”

Over the last few years, there has been much written about the destruction of American democracy. Frequently the threat has been of alleged interference in U.S. elections by Russia, China or other state actors. Government agencies, the name of election integrity, were assigned to identify and disrupt these foreign intrusions. As more and more information is revealed about these agencies, it seems that America’s Intelligence Community participated in these activities domestically, and in a way that poses a grave threat to both election integrity and American democracy.
Just last week it was revealed that the FBI again withheld pertinent information from the American public, for past two months, until after the November 8, 2022 federal election. As with the Bureau’s reported cover-up of evidence influence-peddling reportedly found on Hunter Biden’s laptop, agents knew, since November 2, 2022, about at least some of the three sets of classified material that illegally found their way into the garage and library of President Joe Biden and into the Penn Biden Center think tank at the University of Pennsylvania — to which anonymous members of the Chinese Communist Party have donated $54.6 million.

Washington could become a more dangerous city if the D.C. Council votes Tuesday, as currently planned, to override Mayor Muriel E. Bowser’s veto of a bill that decreases punishments for violent crimes such as carjackings, home invasion burglaries, robberies and even homicides. The far-reaching rewrite of the criminal code will further tie the hands of police and prosecutors while overwhelming courts. With the capital city awash in handguns, the measure would also scale back penalties for convicted felons illegally carrying firearms, as well as for using them to commit crimes.
But when has that ever stopped Democrats before?

While the technology shows much promise, the costs in both money and energy are still high. This means leafy salads, smaller vegetables and fruits such as tomatoes and strawberries – high value crops which grow quickly – are about the limit of what is currently available commercially from vertical farms.
But where exactly is the limit of what we can actually grow in a vertical farm? And if we did find a way to overcome the problems of cost and energy use, what would a world where all our food is grown in such farms look like? Could we ever move to completely soil-free farming?

Seeing this desperate attempt by Tyler Cowen to cover for crypto scams (his list of “falls in status” includes silly items such as “Mrs. Jellyby,” bizarre items such as “Being unmarried (and male) above the age of 30,” and “Venture capital,” but, oddly enough, not “Crypto” itself) made me think that smart people are overrated. Let me put it this way: if you’re a smart astrologer, you’re still not gonna be able to do “real” astrology, which doesn’t exist. To say it slightly differently: it’s easy to promise things, especially if you have a good rep; you have to be careful not to promise things you can’t deliver. It doesn’t matter how smart James Watson’s friend was; he didn’t have that promised cancer cure in two years.
As the saying goes: Saying it don’t make it so. I could go around telling the world I had a solution to all the problems of MRP, and some people might believe me for awhile—but I don’t have such a solution.
I can see how Cowen in his above-linked post doesn’t want to believe that crypto is fundamentally flawed—and maybe he’s right that it’s a great thing, it’s not like I’m an expert—but it’s funny that he doesn’t even consider that it might be a problem, given the scandal he was writing about.
All this got me thinking: in what fields of endeavor does it matter that you’re just B.S.-ing, and in what fields can you get away with it?
Aside from politics, of course, where B.S.-ing is all there is.

The online tip jar. The after-show bucket. The YouTube donations drive. We are in a golden age of crowdfunding art, and you can’t move online for a creator panhandling you for a donation for their content. In a celebrated 2013 TedTalk, “The Art of Asking”, Amanda Palmer posited this crowdfunding model as a path forward for artists to live directly from audience support. That audience would pay for the artist’s work, not out of compulsion, but out of a desire to help someone they felt connected to.
If you’ve ever seen a picture of Amanda Palmer, you realize that most people give her money just so she will go away. One of the worst days of my life was when I found out that Neil Gaiman had dumped the mother of his teenaged daughter in order to go running after this chick.

Ben Shapiro.
Our government seeks more and more control.
Our government is not competent.
These two statements are both true, and together amount to a nightmare for institutional credibility. A government that seeks more control must at the very least demonstrate credibility in implementing its goals; a government that is incompetent can only regain legitimacy by limiting its authority. And yet we have a government that presents the worst of both worlds: incapacity to perform its most basic functions, combined with an ever-expanding encroachment into daily life.
Thus, this week, the Federal Aviation Administration was forced to ground virtually all flights in the United States after an outage in the so-called Notice to Air Missions systems, designed to warn pilots of weather problems, runway issues or other obstacles. The NOTAM system relies on a reportedly outmoded computer system that has not been updated for years. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who is most famous for taking a two-month paternity leave and then bragging about it repeatedly on national television, helpfully commented, “There was a systems issue overnight that led to a ground stop because of the way safety information was moving through the system.” He then reported this problem to President Joe Biden, who helpfully commented that Buttigieg ought to “restore the system quickly and safely, and to determine causes.”
Job well done, gentlemen.
All of which makes the constant proglodyte effort to get more and more of what goes on in daily life under the control of government totally inexplicable. It’s as if they live on a different planet entirely.
