A recent staff presentation to the Washington Metro board’s finance committee revealed that the agency is expecting to run out of federal COVID relief funds in 2024 and anticipates a $187.5 million shortfall in funding that year. From then on, it anticipates funding shortfalls of more than $500 million a year, rising to more than $700 million by 2030.

A coveted working-class demographic that has been loyally Democratic for generations stands poised to vote Republican in record numbers. Its voters are upwardly mobile, having risen from the deep poverty of their immigrant ancestors to a decent middle-class life. Their incomes are rising quickly and are soon expected to reach the national average. They start businesses at rates that exceed the native born. Recent government data shows them moving into the suburbs from ethnic enclaves in the cities. All of this has coincided with their political shift to the right.

Back in August I posted about a “French” imam named Hassan Iquioussen who went on the lam to avoid being deported. It seems Mr. Iquioussen had run afoul of French law by giving voice to Jew-hatred, calling for the subjugation of women, promoting sharia, and other orthodox Islamic theological positions.
The expulsion order mentions that Imam Iquioussen espouses doctrines that represent “a vision of Islam contrary to the values of the Republic.” Unfortunately for the Republic, all Islamic doctrines, if faithfully observed, are contrary to its values. Evidently the courts are unaware of this fact.
Now Mr. Iquioussen has been recaptured in Belgium.
Wherever you go,
Whatever you do,
A Muslim waits there
To try to kill you.

My kid brother John runs a small television, antenna, cable, and dish installation business in New Mexico. He’s been doing it for many years and he’s really good at it. He sends me pictures sometimes of huge flatscreen televisions he’s mounted on tile walls above fireplaces in extraordinarily expensive Santa Fe homes, stuff like that. He does nice work.
Lately, he’s been busy — really busy — doing Starlink installations. Starlink, as everyone probably knows, is Elon Musk’s space-based internet service provider. New Mexico is a huge, wide-open, mostly empty state with lots of mountains and pockets of wealth. It’s a booming market for Musk’s high-speed, low-latency, low-Earth-orbit service.
Starlink interests me. Not because I want it: I have inexpensive cable internet that does a great job for me. It interests me because it’s innovative, beautifully engineered, and one of the drivers of SpaceX (Starlink’s parent company) and Musk’s rocket business.

How many more times must we endure these spiteful outbursts from a president who promised to unite the country?
How much longer must we cringe as he reads “end of quote, repeat the line” off the teleprompter?
How many times must we wince as he ad-libs recklessly in a speech about international tinderboxes, like Russia, Ukraine, the Nord Stream pipeline, or Taiwan?
How much longer must we watch him wandering around lost on stage after giving a speech, appearing to shake imaginary hands or gesture to invisible staff?

Timed to extract maximum donations from liberal Jews around the High Holy Days, PBS is airing “The U.S. and the Holocaust” not to set the record straight, but to cover it up yet again by whitewashing the FDR administration and exploiting the Holocaust to call for open borders.
It’s all about the Benjamins.

It’s striking how much of a secret it is in modern America that affirmative action is mathematically necessary to achieve the levels of diversity that Nice White People think are morally mandatory. Pollsters seldom if ever ask this question, so I can’t prove that most Americans are ignorant of the fact that African Americans are not intelligent enough on average to be terribly competitive in quantitative terms in cognitively elite institutions and careers, but it sure seems like few Americans are cognizant of the cognitive realities.
The one set of people who seem to be uniformly aware of the numbers are liberal college presidents. I wonder if when they make you president of an Ivy League college, is there a National Treasure: Book of Secrets moment where they unlock the drawer in the presidents’ desk and pull out the college’s top-secret copy of The Bell Curve with the special added customized chapter about how few blacks would get in to your school without racial quotas?

Violent political speech has increasingly crossed into the realm of in-person confrontation for members of Congress in both parties, raising the prospect of a disastrous event.
Well, perhaps if they did the jobs they were elected to do rather than being total whores and tools, they might not have this problem.

Companies haven’t yet internationally outsourced many jobs that require higher education, Stansbury tells Fortune, adding that many call center-type jobs, or remote-first jobs like software design or back-end engineering have already been offshored.
But if high-paying white collar jobs can be done remotely, outsourcing them to cheaper areas could “pretty clearly” offer huge savings. The potential for change “would be seismic if all of these well-paid white collar jobs were suddenly outsourced to less rich countries,” she adds.
“If people that code for Google and Facebook were able to live wherever in the U.S. they wanted and [work] for a year and a half without ever going to the office, it seems very, very likely that a lot of companies will be rethinking this longer-term and outsourcing those kinds of jobs that didn’t used to be outsourced,” Stansbury adds.

The Federal Trade Commission has sued the retail giant, seeking civil penalties in what Walmart is calling “an egregious instance of agency overreach” undertaken in spite of a “lack of constitutional or statutory authority.”
The FTC alleges that Walmart did not do enough to protect its customers from scams run by money-transfer services offered inside the company’s stores.
Walmart has responded to the FTC’s lawsuit by challenging the agency’s very constitutionality, and its argument could affect the legal status not only of the FTC, but of other agencies across the administrative state.
This could be huge.
