The primitive communism of hunter-gatherers is no different in principle from the primitive communism of the wifi service at Starbucks, the modern day police and fire departments, or the use of Shakespeare’s works. As Barzel put it, “New rights are created in response to new economic forces that increase the value of the rights.” Thus, in this respect, there are no major differences among peoples, only differences in transaction costs, externalities, and technologies of inclusion and exclusion.

Missouri and Louisiana filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration Thursday for allegedly colluding with Big Tech companies.
Fox News reported that the lawsuit claimed that the Biden administration “pressured and colluded” with companies like Facebook and Twitter to censor the Hunter Biden laptop story. The plaintiffs also alleged that stories that discussed the origins of COVID-19 and potential fraud in mail-in votes were also censored.
The suit named the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Department of Homeland Security, Nina Jankowicz in her official capacity as director of the “Disinformation Governance Board,” and others as defendants.
Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt and Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry alleged that the censorship occurred “‘under the guise of combating misinformation’ in order to achieve greater censorship,” Fox reported. Schmitt and Landry issued a press release that further explained their complaint.

Feeding Our Future and a related nonprofit, Partners in Nutrition (d/b/a Partners in Quality Care), were both founded in Minnesota in 2016 to help local organizations gain access to two lucrative federal free-food programs, the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Both were created to supplement the better-known federal school lunch program by filling the gaps during those hours (and months) that school is out of session. In Minnesota, the programs are overseen by the state Department of Education (MDE). It was the department, suspecting fraud in the programs, that alerted the FBI who then started the year-long investigation.
The lead nonprofits, known as sponsors, were just middlemen. For a 10 percent fee, they stitched together networks of hundreds of sites, dozens of subsidiary nonprofits, and private food vendors to distribute meals to hungry children. Many of these sites are believed to be completely legitimate, while others have been placed under suspicion. It is the private food vendors who are believed by the FBI to be the culprits in the fraud, taking tens of millions of dollars from the program, without feeding children.

Kathryn Murdoch, wife to former News Corp executive James Murdoch, is a shopaholic, but she doesn’t hoard shoes, purses, or makeup. No, Kathryn is obsessed with spending her family’s money on anti-Republican and Never Trump political causes.
Kathryn handed over $1 million to the Republican Accountability Project in the first quarter of 2022, according to FEC documents. The Republican Accountability Project scores GOP members in regard to how they addressed voter fraud in the 2020 election. The group suggests that members who spoke publicly about concerns of fraud or failed to vote to impeach President Donald Trump were complicit in the January 6 riot at the Capitol building.
Representatives Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney and Senator Mitt Romney are among the lawmakers who received a perfect score. Kathryn’s million made up nearly a third of the Republican Accountability Project’s overall fundraising in the first quarter.

In March of this year the biracial gay actor Jussie Smollett was sentenced to 150 days in county jail for planning a hoax attack against himself in Chicago in 2019 and making false police reports. His alleged attackers had worn ski masks, berated him with racial and homophobic slurs, told him he was in “MAGA country” — “Make America Great Again” — poured an unidentified liquid on him, and left a noose around his neck.
When a police investigation revealed a month later that he had paid two Nigerian brothers, who were his gym buddies, to perpetrate the attack, his credibility was shattered. The speculation was that sympathy for Smollett as the victim of a hate attack might have aided him in pay negotiations with his employers.
At the time, some commentators made passing reference to another hoax attack from the late 1980s, the Tawana Brawley case. If Smollett had read up on it, he might have thought twice — as should Smollett’s initial supporter, Al Sharpton, given his unrepented role in that scandal.

Hearing loss caused by aging, noise, and some cancer therapy medications and antibiotics has been irreversible because scientists have not been able to reprogram existing cells to develop into the outer and inner ear sensory cells — essential for hearing — once they die.
But Northwestern Medicine scientists have discovered a single master gene that programs ear hair cells into either outer or inner ones, overcoming a major hurdle that had previously prevented the development of these cells to restore hearing, according to new research published today (May 4, 2022) in the journal Nature.

Democrats and Republicans might hate each other’s guts, but they can agree on at least one thing: The Lincoln Project sucks, and should stop meddling in the 2022 elections with its self-righteous “pro-democracy” nonsense.
“Pls no,” wrote Izzy Levy, communications director for Tim Ryan, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Ohio, upon learning the Lincoln Project had identified the Ohio Senate contest as one of “the most crucial races to the survival of democracy in the United States.” Luke Thompson, an adviser to Ryan’s GOP challenger, J.D. Vance, immediately concurred.
It is understandable why Ryan’s campaign would not want the Lincoln Project to get involved in the Ohio Senate race. The scandal-plagued super PAC has a proven track record of helping Republican candidates win elections in swing states. Last year, for example, the Lincoln Project played an instrumental role in Glenn Youngkin’s upset victory over Terry McAuliffe in the Virginia gubernatorial election by forcing a bunch of interns to dress up as neo-Nazis and harass Youngkin at a rain-soaked campaign event.

Did you know that in some states, if you miss one tax payment, local politicians will take your home, sell it and keep all the profits?
Really.
Tawanda Hall was behind on her taxes. She was on a payment plan but had missed $900. She didn’t expect Southfield, Michigan, to take her entire house because of that. It was worth $286,000 more than what she owed.
“I’m still in shock,” says Tawanda Hall in my new video. “They took my whole house, my whole family’s livelihood.”
John Bursch, a lawyer for the county, says while this practice may sound unfair (yes, it sure does), “It’s also unfair to force those who pay their taxes to subsidize those who don’t.”
“I pay taxes!” Hall responds. She works as a nursing assistant. “I lift people. I bathe people. I work hard.”
When Hall found out she was going to lose her home, she tried to pay off the debt.
“I went to the mayor’s office, I went down to the city county building,” she says. “They didn’t want our money. They said no.”
They wanted her house.
Southfield is a suburb of Detroit; it’s mayor is a Democrat (and presumably the rest of the city government is likewise).

When it rains the worms come out and for the political class the steady rain is promising to become a deluge. The latest bit of bad news in the forecast is the leaked opinion from the Supreme Court regarding Roe. There have been a lot of hot takes on the implications of the ruling but lost in the media churn is the fact that this is another sign that things are getting ugly in Washington. A civilized political class run by sober-minded adults would never have allowed this to happen.
The fact is, Washington is in chaos. The Biden administration is a balkanized mess with Joe Biden as an embarrassing figurehead. His handlers are running out of patience or ability to keep him from having “senior moments” in public. In announcing some new justification for seizing Russian property, Biden slipped into confusion and struggled to say words that may or may not have been in the script. He looked like a man who should be at an assisted living facility, not the White House.

As attention turns to the future presidential election in 2024, it might be time for conservatives to think along radical lines if only to come to terms with the fact that, as things stand, it no longer matters who is president. By deliberate design, the presidency means nothing while the executive branch is everything. Should the candidate be a Trump, that candidate’s hands will be tied behind his back; if cut from the cloth of Biden, it is more sock-puppet imbecility. If the candidate is a combination of Reagan, Theodore Roosevelt, Eisenhower, James Madison, Russell Kirk, Churchill, and Edmund Burke fused into one philosopher-king, it still will not matter. The governance of our grand experiment has been reduced to a faceless shadow executive utterly without accountability; that body’s feckless annex and amen corner called “Congress”; and a medieval guild that makes up our Supreme Court, in whose pasty hands the liberty of an entire nation is subjected to degrees of benevolent-to-diabolical ideological whim.

- Abortion kills the baby. Dying in violent and agonizing manners, somewhere between 1 million and 2 million innocent baby humans are killed each year. The baby’s experience of pain is widely agreed upon, which is one reason why pro-abortionists resort to socially neutral euphemisms such as “products of conception” and “termination of pregnancy.” As noted by the authors of “The America We Seek: A Statement of Pro-Life Principle and Concern”: “The unborn child in America today enjoys less legal protection than an endangered species of bird in a national forest.”
- Abortion abuses women. Our country’s legalization of abortion damages women by communicating to them that it is morally and legally acceptable to take the life of their baby. This legalization has catalyzed male irresponsibility and predatory sexual behavior, which, in turn, destabilizes romantic relationships and marriages.
- Abortion hurts men. Abortion on demand means that many fathers must watch their children killed against their will. Some months, years, or even decades later, fathers find out that the child they would’ve wanted to nurture was killed without their input or consent.
- Abortion harms marriages and families. Abortion hurts families in numerous ways, among which are destruction of a baby, fueling of male irresponsibility, marginalization of fatherhood, and the implicit message that members of a family may use lethal force to solve their problems.
- Abortion undermines justice and equality. Abortion should not be a matter of “choice” any more than other situations that involve taking the life of an innocent person. When we allow our citizens to take the life of innocent persons, we undermine our nation’s claim to being a law-governed democracy. No longer does our nation really believe that we are all created equal; no longer do we seek justice for all.
- Abortion undermines our nation’s system of checks and balances. In Roe v. Wade and subsequent decisions, a Supreme Court majority bypassed democratic debate and legislation by fabricating a constitutional right to abortion.
- Abortion minimizes society’s mediating institutions. Abortion on demand assumes that an individual (the mother) has the right to take a life without the consent of the baby’s father or siblings. This sort of individual autonomy pushes America even further toward a cultural environment where the only actors of consequence are the ever-expanding state and the solitary individual.

Rioters in Los Angeles attacked police officers Tuesday night, injuring at least two, in the wake of Politico‘s report indicating the Supreme Court is on the verge of overturning Roe v. Wade.
Police attempted to disperse a group of pro-abortion protesters when they tried to occupy an intersection, LAPD chief Michel Moore said. At that point, some began to throw rocks and bottles at officers, two of whom were injured in the attack.
One officer was struck in the head, LAPD captain Steven Ruiz said, possibly by his own baton. That officer is “doing OK,” the captain said. The other injured officer’s condition is unknown, but an ambulance was dispatched to the scene.

Neither the web publisher nor its employees innocently picked up the draft opinion from off the street. They knew that it was stolen. They knew that no Supreme Court opinion has ever, in the history of the United States of America, been released without the Court’s authorization, no matter how important or controversial its subject. They knew that, in the normal course of its activity, the Court would have published its decision within the next two months. They knew that the Justices often continue considering and refining opinions until shortly before they are announced. They knew that the Court’s effectiveness has for over two centuries depended crucially on trust among the Justices and their staff.
They knew and didn’t care. For the frisson of a “big story”, and almost certainly with the hope of assisting the Democratic Party, they peddled their ill-gotten goods and inflicted serious harm on our nation’s highest judicial body. Honorable men would have written a story beginning, “Today, a person connected to the Supreme Court attempted to give Politico confidential Court documents concerning an upcoming decision. Politico has returned the documents unread to the Court chambers and advised the Justices of the identity of the miscreant.”

Joel Kotkin.
We Americans like to think of ourselves as a thoroughly modern people — living proof of what, with enough toil and grit, the rest of the free world can one day hope to be. And yet for all our progressivism and idealism, America’s political culture finds itself unable to escape the past. We may be living in a 21st century democracy, but that “democracy” increasingly resembles something that could have been plucked out of feudal Europe or, perhaps more accurately, feudal Japan.
For much of its history, Japanese politics was characterised by conflicts among its ruling daimyo, and later between the great industrial zaibatsu who replaced them as dominant powers. Similarly, America’s politics is now being shaped by a civil war not between classes, but within the ruling capitalist elite.

Amid news reports about the leaked draft of a Supreme Court opinion that would end abortion on demand, critics wailed in the media, in speeches, and on Twitter about the proposed ruling.
The high court confirmed the authenticity of the draft opinion by Justice Samuel Alito in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that was leaked to Politico, but asserted that it is not the final version.
If the Alito draft from February stands and enough justices sign on, it would overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that made abortion legal across the nation.
If the Supreme Court overturns Roe, it would not ban abortion but rather allow state legislatures to determine to what extent abortion is allowed in their states.
