The Times is just once instance of the vicious cycle in news media. Radical technological changes have disrupted traditional funding models, making traditional types of reporting too unprofitable to sustain. Newsroom staffing has been slashed by one-quarter since 2008, with those left standing horrified they’ll be next.
This creates newsrooms full of anxiety, with many reporters trying to leverage sensationalism on social media. While reporters 20 years ago might have tried to bury – or at least hide – the biases that informed their reporting, now they brag about those biases on Twitter in the purity-spiral battle to prove who’s the wokest.

Honey may be one of the oldest forms of natural medicine. Its wound healing and antimicrobial properties can be found mentioned in some of our oldest medical literature. The Bible mentions it in proverbs 16:24 “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine who is turning a few thousand RPMs in his grave, was convinced that honey had a variety of healing properties, and he would use it in many of his treatments. He would treat pain with a combination of honey and vinegar. He also encouraged his patients to drink Mead, one of the oldest alcoholic beverages made by fermenting honey with water grains and other spices, the Greeks would refer to it as the “nectar of the gods”.

A post recently made the rounds on hacker news claiming that you should teach your kids poker, not chess. The comments on that post go through a lot of the reasons why poker is a bad game to teach your children, but I felt that I was well suited to opine on this topic, and explain why duplicate bridge is the best game for practicing the life skills involved in business and programming, compared to all of the alternatives.

Cave explorers stumbled upon a prehistoric forest at the bottom of a giant sinkhole in South China earlier this month. Sinkholes such as these are also known in Chinese as Tiankeng, or “Heavenly pit.”
At 630 feet deep, the sinkhole would hide the Washington Monument and then some. The bottom of the pit holds an ancient forest spanning nearly three football fields in length, with trees towering over 100 feet high. And according to the Chinese government, it is one of 30 enormous sinkholes in the county.
Soon to be a major motion picture in the Marvel Universe?

In a banana republic, what do you do when your citizens don’t have enough money because of your socialist economic policies? Simple: print more money! There was a time when we thought American politics were above such insanity, but those days are gone. The Biden administration’s multi-trillion dollar money-printing spree has launched the worst inflation since the Carter administration and the longest collapse of the Dow since 1932. Nice going, Joe!
If you think Democrats might learn from their mistakes, you don’t know Democrats.

A woman has made a hearsay allegation against Elon Musk, claiming that on a company airplane in 2016, he exposed himself to and propositioned a flight attendant. The woman who made the claim says she is a friend of the flight attendant. It is alleged that Space-X paid the flight attendant $250,000 when she left the company.
Funny how that works: no one needed to know any of this until Musk undertook to buy Twitter and turn it into a free speech zone, and–horrors!–said he would be voting Republican in November. Now, suddenly, he is under attack on multiple fronts.
Funny how that works.

If you thought that the economic news was crazy during the first half of 2022, just wait until we get to the second half. So many of the problems that we are experiencing now are going to continue to intensify, and Americans are becoming more pessimistic about economic conditions with each passing day. In fact, as you will see below, a whopping 85 percent of us believe that it is “very likely” or “somewhat likely” that the economy will go through a recession at some point during the next year. Of course the truth is that if all we have to suffer through is a “recession”, we would be extremely fortunate. Our leaders have lost control of the economy, and many of us are extremely concerned about what is coming next.
Joe Biden’s administration appears to have achieved in one year a level of economic distress it took Jimmy Carter’s administration four years to achieve.

According to a new letter released by San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will no longer be allowed to receive the Eucharist at Mass in her home diocese.
“A Catholic legislator who supports procured abortion, after knowing the teaching of the Church, commits a manifestly grave sin which is a cause of most serious scandal to others,” Cordileone writes in the letter addressed to Pelosi, D-Calif.
About time somebody called out Pelosi for being a CINO.
Next up: Biden.

Murder had been declining in the United States in the two decades after the lethal Crack Wars of the late 1980-1990s. But then The Establishment decided about a decade ago that America’s big problem was too much law and order. So, after the celebrated emergence of Black Lives Matter at Ferguson in August 2014, we got less law and order, good and hard as H.L. Mencken might say about today’s elites.

Five years ago, a startup called Semtive Energy took the concept of a wind turbine, shrank it down to the size of a garden shrub, and started marketing it directly to households; much like rooftop solar panels, the mini turbine is intended to help homeowners rely less on the grid and produce their own clean energy.
Now another startup has taken a wind turbine, shrunk it down even more, and is marketing it to people who truly are off the grid—that is, hikers, campers, climbers, and others spending time in nature. Just under a year ago, Aurea Technologies launched a Kickstarter campaign for Shine, “an ultra-compact lightweight wind turbine that offers unrivaled performance for outdoor enthusiasts who need to recharge electronic devices.”

How are progressives made? By cooking them in a public school six hours a day, five days a week where they are seemingly indoctrinated with an ideology that contradicts the values and beliefs of many of their parents.
It began as a trickle, but now is approaching a flood as activist groups – notably LGBTQ organizations – have infiltrated public schools and demanded their views on sexuality and gender be taught.

The word “smishing” is derived from a combination of “SMS” and “phishing”. “Phishing” describes the phenomenon of being deceived into giving sensitive information to a disguised cybercriminal and “SMS” indicates that the deception is carried out via text messaging. Smishing is therefore essentially a newer breed of the infamous spam emails, however, due to the perceived intimacy of a personal text message, SMS scams have a higher chance of going unnoticed.
To further take advantage of your confidence in text message safety, attackers tend to assume the identity of well-known companies people are used to receiving legitimate messages from, such as DHL, Netflix, or Apple. Smishing text messages usually depict a situation that due to their urgency, are known to grab the victim’s attention, such as a package delivery notification, a purchase confirmation, or a credit card suspension notice. The ultimate “goal” of smishing is to trick unsuspecting people into giving away their personal or financial information. In many cases, simply clicking the provided link can initiate a download process of viruses or malware, which the cybercriminal can use to access all data and information stored on your phone.
I have received numerous e-mails and text messages from people I know to be dead, as well as from companies and banks with whom I have never done business.

A future where machines handle hard work with incredible speed and accuracy seems great. But can the labor market afford automation to this extent without skyrocketing unemployment? What will millions of people do when their labor is no longer necessary?
Many of them will have been aborted before we have to worry about it. The rest will be receiving every-more-generous welfare benefits (which is why automation is becoming increasingly popular).

Edward L. Bernays was an American business consultant who is widely recognized as the father of public relations. Bernays was one of the men responsible for “selling” World War 1 to the American public by branding it as a war that was necessary to “make the world safe for democracy”.
During the 1920s, Bernays consulted for a number of major corporations, helping to boost their business through expertly crafted marketing campaigns aimed at influencing public opinion.
In 1928, Edward Bernays published his famous book, Propaganda, in which he outlined the theories behind his successful “public relations” endeavours. The book provides insights into the phenomenon of crowd psychology and outlines effective methods for manipulating people’s habits and opinions.

We have reached a grim milestone in grim milestones. A Google search on the term “grim milestone” now returns more than 6,000,000 results. It is a “grim milestone” in the unstoppable progress of a brain-killing media cliché.
The “grim milestones” retailed by the media always seem to have a political twist and the political twist always seems to be detrimental to Republicans. If it can’t be given a detrimental twist detrimental to Republicans, the “grim milestone” is likely to go unrecognized if possible.

I’m so old I can remember Bill Clinton blaming the 1995 Oklahoma bombing on Rush Limbaugh. Heck, I’m so old I can recall MSNBC and the rest of the leftist hive mind blaming the 2011 shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords on Sarah Palin, when 30 seconds of observation showed clearly the shooter was severely mentally ill. Oh, wait—you don’t need to be old for that: the New York Times repeated that outrageous slur in an editorial just four years ago—now the subject of a much-deserved libel suit from Palin.
Actually this is the left’s oldest playbook, and it hasn’t gotten any less stale than it was in the aftermath of that November 1963 day in Dallas, when the left blamed JFK’s assassin on a “climate of right-wing hate” in Texas, despite the obvious fact that Kennedy’s killer was a dedicated Communist. (See Camelot and the Cultural Revolution for the complete story.) Keep in mind that the left, including high government officials in the Kennedy administration, had been braying for several years that the principal threat to the nation was the “radical right,” and especially those little old ladies in tennis shoe bombs in the John Birch Society.

Project Veritas’s latest is an interview with a senior engineer at Twitter. He talks about Twitter’s culture (Communist), its censorship of the right–which, however, he defines as bullying transgenders–Twitter’s opposition to free speech, the fact that Twitter employees can go for long periods of time without working, and more. So Elon Musk was right: Twitter is a leftist organization (“left, left, left, left, left” as the engineer says), and also an organization that does little to try to make a profit.
