I begin to think the Bush-Republicans are actually worse than their Rockefeller-Republican predecessors. The Rockies openly admitted their liberalism; the Bushies spout conservative rhetoric while doing everything they can to advance the Democrat agenda, and make money for themselves in the process. Wyoming Representative Liz Cheney not only eagerly signed onto Nancy Pelosi’s January 6th Inquisition, but she is now apparently leveraging the Committee’s Subpoena Power to harass her primary opponent.

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman (not to be confused with the NYTimes columnist who wants to be Governor of Oregon because he thinks the current governor isn’t left-wing enough) thinks Biden should pick Liz Cheney as his running mate in 2024.
His rationale … I am not making this up… is because Israel is a parliamentary democracy and Orange Man Bad, and therefore, combining a president with a 28% approval rating with a vice president so consumed with hatred for the previous president that her own party has rejected her will unite the country and save democracy.
It might.

An obscure agency within the Biden administration, the Pretrial Services Agency, announced an Orwellian tracking scheme on Tuesday that could serve as a model for the entire US government to collect the names and “personal religious information” of federal employees who make “religious accommodation requests for religious exception from the federally mandated vaccination requirement,” according to the Daily Signal.

At a speech in Georgia yesterday, President Biden charged all U.S. Senators with deciding “where they stand, not just for the moment, but for the ages.” The Senate filibuster, which Biden defended passionately in 2005 and again last year, is now apparently a neo-segregationist atrocity because it stands in the way of the president’s legislative agenda.
Biden wants federal power to veto election laws in certain states, because he is on the right side of history. Of course this means if you oppose him, you are on the wrong side. “At consequential moments in history, they present a choice,” he said. “Do you want to be on the side of Dr. King or George Wallace? Do you want to be on the side of John Lewis or Bull Connor? Do you want to be on the side of Abraham Lincoln or Jefferson Davis?”
Dr King was a Republican; George Wallace was a Democrat while he was a segregationist, then switched parties when he changed his outlook. John Lewis and Bull Connor were both Democrats Abraham Lincoln was a Republican; Jefferson Davis was a Democrat. Looks like the Republicans are willling the Right Side of History sweepstakes here.
George Wallace, an actual segregationist, is like the filibuster: Biden used to like him. Now, not so much. In 1987 the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Biden “bragged of an award he received from George Wallace in 1973.” In 1975, then-Senator Biden added: I think the Democratic Party could stand a liberal George Wallace—someone who’s not afraid to stand up and offend people.”
Here we have a president who constantly needs to distance himself from views and relationships which have come to seem morally toxic in the span of just one lifetime. You would think that experience might make him more circumspect about declaring what future generations will think of today’s political debates. Not so.
Being On The Right Side of History has been a progressive thing forever. Yet they never seem to get it right.

Video shows Ray Epps, among other things, encouraging unlawful entry into the Capitol building, yet he has never been prosecuted. Why?
Under Ted Cruz’s repeated questioning, Ms. Sanborn repeatedly states, “I can’t answer that.” I suppose she hopes you will think that she is saying that she does not know. However, she precedes the litany of “I can’t answer that” responses by saying that she is “can’t go into sources and methods….” What does that tell us? Her “I can’t answer that” is all about sources and methods, not any lack of knowledge.
As I hear her testimony, her “I can’t answer that” is because it would reveal “sources and methods.” Who sources and methods? The FBI’s, of course. In other words, I hear her answers as essentially admitting that the FBI was involved in encouraging the January 6 unlawful entry into the Capitol building.

ZMan takes a long view.
It speaks to the bankruptcy of the political class that they keep indulging in these weird walks down memory lane. Within living memory politicians would run on specific agendas, tied closely to things that were important to people. Biden ran on not being Trump and now Hillary plans to run on not being Trump or Biden. Elections have always been beauty contents, but now they have been stripped of their talent portion, leaving us with the terrifying image of geezers in swimsuits.

I was awake ridiculously early this morning (like 4 am), and was caught short by the news of the FAA ground stop and landing order for air traffic in the western U.S. yesterday in hair trigger response to a North Korean test launch of a hypersonic missile. The FAA’s statement left things pretty vague as to why. I note the mainstream media caught up with this unusual story today, but as usual offer superficial accounts.
The ground stop and landing order (similar to the landing order of 9/11) only lasted a few minutes and was quickly cancelled, but I am wondering about the linkages and protocols between NORAD and the FAA’s air traffic control system. It doesn’t seem there was much time lapse. Maybe this is just part of the post-9/11 world. But I also wonder if there is something we aren’t being told. Why would the government order a total ground stop and landing order for the west coast in response to a single missile launch? I can think of a few plausible reasons, but I can also think of some others that are less reassuring.

While American forces were able to shoot down the terror drones, these latest acts of Iranian diplomacy came complete with the words “Soleimani’s revenge” scrawled on the drones. The latest Iranian attacks on Americans forces use Soleimani’s death as a pretext, but the attacks began before the Iranian terror boss was killed, and have sharply escalated under Biden in response to his appeasement of the Islamic terror regime.
There were repeated Iran-backed rocket strikes against Americans in Iraq throughout the last year totaling an estimated 25 separate attacks under the Biden administration.
These attacks have mostly gone unpunished.

A reasonable precaution until the Powers That Be determine where it was headed. If we need to trigger our ballistic missile defense system, minimizing the number of Innocent Bystanders is alway a good idea.
Which agency ordered the ground stop remains a mystery. North American Aerospace Defense Command spokeswoman Pamela Kunze told CNN on Tuesday that the order was not national and that a regional air traffic control facility might have issued the ground stop.
That statement contradicts what airport officials and pilots heard at the time, sources reported.
San Diego International Airport spokeswoman Sabrina LoPiccolo told Newsweek that air traffic controllers informed airport officials of a national ground stop order at about 2:30 p.m.
“We really don’t have any more details,” LoPiccolo said.
CNN reported that an air traffic controller cited “a national ground stop” in ordering a Cessna pilot to land.

Steve draws a lesson from life.
Hell doesn’t exist solely to punish. It also exists to bless the righteous by keeping the depraved out of their sight. When you’re in hell, the people in heaven can’t see you or hear you. They don’t get updates on you. They don’t visit. They never ask God to help you. They don’t think they owe you anything. They don’t remember you existed. You can’t put on a black outfit and a mask and go to heaven to riot for what you think are your rights.
This has to be one of the best things about heaven.
Being a do-it-yourself protestant, Steve’s ideas of Heaven and Hell are pretty far off-base, but one can certainly appreciate where he is coming from.
One of the worst aspect of the Religion of Progressivism is that it anathematizes the concept of charity. Nobody is allowed to feel good about doing something nice for a person less well off; that’s considered a character defect, because it might damage the self-esteem of the recipient. Instead, everybody deserves nice things BY RIGHT and if you have more than somebody else you are a Heretic and a Sinner unless you pass it all out until everyone is equal. This attitude has infected the less-well-off (who are, in many cases, that way because of their own deficiencies) to the point where NO GRATITUDE WILL BE FORTHCOMING for any act of benevolence, merely whining about how it’s So Unfair that X has something that Y doesn’t.

ZMan is delightfully dyspeptic today.
Hollywood figured out a long time ago that they could make a lot of money on a sequel to a popular movie. They could count on attracting most of the original audience without having to think too hard or spend a lot of money. If the sequel was just the original with a couple new twists, then it was easy money. The reboot is a similar concept, except it relies on nostalgia to sell the concept. Fans of the original Star Wars movies could take their kids to the reboot of the franchise.
The general consensus is that the reboot and remake are a sign that Hollywood has run out of creative writers. The wrinkly brains are now in the technical end, making cool graphics and special effects. The writers arrive in a short bus. This cultural dead end where they just keep rebooting prior ideas has reached a point where they are rebooting reboots of reboots now. The only novelty is they are stripping away anything of interest and replacing it with ideology.
Leni Riefenstahl is smiling in her grave.
The same process has been happening with politics. The first little hint of it happened with Bill Clinton who was sold as his generation’s JFK. This played on Baby Boomer nostalgia, which has been powerful juju since the 1980’s. The first genuine political reboot was Obama. He was pitched as the black JFK, which was a foreshadowing of what has been happening in popular culture. Just as the role of JFK was being played by a black guy, everything on TV is now played by nonwhites.
The thing that was interesting about Obama was that despite all the talk about the future, they were obsessed with the past. His signature program, health care, was a re-do of the failed health care fight in the 1990’s. His Russian reset was a rebuke of Reagan’s tough approach to the Soviets. His Iran policy was a re-do of what happened in the late 1970’s under Carter. The Obama years were a series of remakes of old defeats by the Left, but this time they were the winners.
Just as the copy is never as good as the original, Joe Biden’s AlGore is a cheap plastic imitation.

North Korea carried out another ballistic missile test off the east coast. This missile was tracked by South Korea as it traveled 700 kilometers, after reaching a max altitude of 60 kilometers. South Korea pointed out that this was the second such test in a week and not the sort of thing North Korea needs to do if they are serious about negotiating a peace deal with the south and obtaining massive foreign aid as a result.
Since Trump is no longer in office, and the same old Establishment cold-warriors are back in charge, they’re reverting to the only thing in their toolbox. Rather understandable.

The CDC and other government agencies grossly overhyped the covid epidemic. Many suspect that this was done intentionally, in order to drive President Trump from office. The best argument against this hypothesis is that foreign government agencies were nearly as panic-stricken as our own.
The Minnesota Department of Health maintains an extraordinary volume of records relating to every death that occurs within the jurisdiction. These data include not only the entire contents of the death certificate, but information as to who found the body, the address and phone number of the funeral parlor, and much more–a spread sheet with over 250 fields in total. I bought the complete MDH mortality records for 2020 and the first half of 2021, had one of my staff members slim the spread sheet down to the relevant fields, and printed all the records where the death certificate included the words “covid,” “sars-2,” etc. I then spent some time reviewing these thousands of records.
If you follow this simple procedure, you immediately realize two things: 1) most “covid deaths” involve people who have already lived longer than the average life expectancy in our state, and 2) when you look at the various maladies listed on the death certificates, in a large majority of cases covid was the least of the decedent’s problems. In many if not most instances, it seems a marvel that the person was still living so as to catch the coronavirus.

For nearly two years, and with the midterm election coming up, conservatives and Republicans were vilified as conspiracy theorists for raising questions about COVID hospitalization numbers when it came to who was there because of COVID and who just happened to be infected. On Monday, CNN and anchor Jake Tapper finally arrived at the scene to ask the obvious questions after CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky admitted to Fox News that number is inflated by upwards of 40 percent.
Tapper prefaced his late revelation by prefacing to CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta that “the case numbers aren’t really a significant as hospitalizations because what’s important is how sick people are getting.”
And since CNN had obfuscated the idea that the CDC was misleading people, Tapper had to spell out what was going on.

Sometimes life comes at you fast. Such was the case this week for Glenn Kessler, the so-called fact-checker for Jeff Bezos’ publication, The Washington Post. Kessler himself was inadvertently fact-checked by the U.S. Department of Justice, and yet this reporter who spends his career allegedly seeking the truth and correcting others was unwilling to admit his own mistake.
Kessler’s full-time job is to perform public relations work for the Biden regime by often issuing fake “fact checks” of conservatives when they make points that run counter to the regime’s narrative. More often than not, these fact checks require some serious spinning, or even inventing of “facts,” in order to find objectionable grounds.

The little light on the dashboard of your car telling you that you are too close to another car and the warnings about drinking the contents of the shampoo bottle are all part of the custodial state and they come with a cost. The federal government spent over six trillion dollars in fiscal year 2021. That is 30% of the GDP. State and local government spent another three trillion. Roughly half of the U.S. GDP is consumed with the cost of governance. This is true throughout the West.

It’s especially useful for people who struggle with self care, executive dysfunction, and/or reading internal signals. It’s designed to take as much of the weight off of you as possible, so each decision is very easy and doesn’t require much judgment.
Take your time. Set aside some time–maybe an hour total–to allow yourself to work through each step. Don’t rush or skip ahead; just follow the directions. Self care is important, and you deserve to devote some time to it.
You can even go through this routine as soon as you wake up, as a preventative measure.
