Here’s an idea for you, Barry: Since you’re paying so much attention to “certain right wing media,” maybe you’re reading my blog, and let me suggest that perhaps this “fear and resentment” is not entirely irrational, that maybe “their way of life” really is being threatened.

In other words, individuals have no rights that a Social Justice Warrior is obliged to respect.

“Violence is a part of America’s culture. It is as American as cherry pie.”
“If America don’t come around, we’re going to burn America down.” These are the words of a young African American man known as H. Rap Brown. What began as a life involved in the nonviolent civil rights movement spiraled downward to violent crime and murder.
The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) would have you think otherwise. Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, ICNA’s Council for Social Justice is repackaging the story of H. Rap Brown, aka Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin, as a persecuted political prisoner set up by a corrupt justice system.

Inflation isn’t observable in technological fields – anything attached to the internet becomes deflationary over time through Moore’s law. Yet, inflation’s nightmarish effects exist and its worrisome presence is seen in commodities, namely through the price of food. Even though agricultural technology has reshaped the way farms work, the nominal price of food has exploded at a machine-gun clip, making subsistence living soon-impossible for much the world.

What is the goal of the Black Lives Matter movement? To make it impossible to arrest and prosecute criminals? Because that would seem a logical inference from recent events in Minneapolis.

Under the reductionist malady of Trump Derangement Syndrome, facts and logic did not matter. Instead, anything not said or done in opposition to Trump empowered the supposed existential Trump threat. Ironically, some of the most deductive and reductionist Trump haters were supposedly professionals, the highly educated, and the self-proclaimed devotees of the Enlightenment. And yet in their uncontrolled aversion and detestation, they suspended all the rules of empiricism, logic, and rationality—and people died as a result.

Nearly a year later, Umbrella Man has not been arrested. Charges have not been brought against him. Umbrella Man remains at large. Libor did not identify him in his July 28 story because he has not been charged.
Officer Christensen’s account of events was taken at face value in the numerous news accounts that immediately followed the Star Tribune story, but it is ludicrous. Spectator USA’s pseudonymous Cockburn conducted a reality check in “The curious Umbrella Man myth.” Subhead: “Cockburn hasn’t seen this many people excited about an umbrella since Mary Poppins hit theaters in 1964.” Cockburn drily noted in July 2020: “Cockburn would have thought that the carnage of the past month would render one man’s window smashing a historical footnote. But instead, the opposite has happened, for the usual 2020 reason: it is politically useful.”
I thought Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was responsible for the key event that led to the destruction wrought throughout the Twin Cities following the death of George Floyd. The key event was the abandonment of the Third Precinct headquarters on May 28.
Mayor Frey too remains at large. His dereliction was not illegal.

Now that the Covid panic is finally winding down, it is a good time to look at how it quickly became a religion for many people. It is fair to assume that most people looked at Covid as a blend of public health and public policy. They do not know much about either topic, so they trusted what they were told. Others, however, embraced Covid and the rules around it like a new religion. The rituals and statistics quickly became the central point around which they organized their lives.
One of the first signs of this happening were the personal testimonials. By the late spring of last year, the Covidian had stories to tell. “I know of four people who have died from Covid this month” was a popular one. Despite the statistical improbability, millions were telling us about their personal war with Covid. The victims became younger as the age realty became apparent. Finally at the end, we are getting stories about the unvaccinated dying despite being healthy.
…
It is not an accident that the same people who tote grimy canvas sacks to the grocery store were the first to embrace the rituals of Covid. All civic religions in the modern age come with these piety symbols, usually with a corporate logo. Public television stations made millions giving members tote bags with the logo on them. Note that American sports teams quickly rushed out branded face masks. In a world of strangers, displaying your corporate overlord is important.

In a story about Dr. Aruna Khilanani, we learn that no matter how many degrees a person has, he or she can become a purveyor of mental illness and hatred. Dr. Khilanani provided a lecture for Yale University, and her sickness was on display for everyone to hear. Bari Weiss received access to the doctor’s talk and you can hear the whole lecture here. Essentially the doctor shared with her audience her unscientific, racist, and hateful attitudes towards white people in general. She felt no need to defend her positions, but instead criticized Bari Weiss, who received access to the taped lecture before the doctor did. Judging from the quality of the recording, it’s possible that it was recorded by someone who attended the event.

HOURS BEFORE Jo Phoenix, a professor of criminology at Britain’s Open University, was due to give a talk at Essex University about placing transgender women in women’s prisons, students threatened to barricade the hall. They complained that Ms Phoenix was a “transphobe” likely to engage in “hate speech”. A flyer with an image of a gun and text reading “shut the fuck up, TERF” (trans-exclusionary radical feminist, a slur) was circulating. The university told Ms Phoenix it was postponing the event. Then the sociology department asked her for a copy of her talk. Days later it told her it had voted to rescind its invitation, and would issue no more. Ms Phoenix says she was “absolutely furious and deeply upset” about both the damage to her reputation and to academic freedom.

Currently, carbon-based overcoats (COCs) – layers used to protect platters from mechanical damages and corrosion – occupy a significant part of this spacing. The data density of HDDs has quadrupled since 1990, and the COC thickness has reduced from 12.5nm to around 3nm, which corresponds to one terabyte per square inch. Now, graphene has enabled researchers to multiply this by ten.
The Cambridge researchers have replaced commercial COCs with one to four layers of graphene, and tested friction, wear, corrosion, thermal stability, and lubricant compatibility. Beyond its unbeatable thinness, graphene fulfills all the ideal properties of an HDD overcoat in terms of corrosion protection, low friction, wear resistance, hardness, lubricant compatibility, and surface smoothness.

A conservative columnist raised $104,153 on GoFundMe for the grandmother of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., in Puerto Rico, but the family is refusing the help after AOC called out former President Donald Trump not doing enough to help.
After the Squad member posted on Twitter, lamenting the condition of her grandmother’s home in Puerto Rico following 2017’s Hurricane Maria, conservative Daily Wire columnist Matt Walsh set up a GoFundMe page that raised $104,153, only to be told the family is refusing the donation.

A federal judge overturned California’s 32-year-old ban on so-called assault-style weapons on Friday, describing it as a “failed experiment” and prompting scathing criticism from the state’s governor and attorney general.
California has prohibited the sale of the weapons since 1989. The ban was challenged in a 2019 lawsuit against California’s attorney general by plaintiffs including James Miller, a state resident, and the San Diego County Gun Owners, a political action committee.
“This case is about what should be a muscular constitutional right and whether a state can force a gun policy choice that impinges on that right with a 30-year-old failed experiment,” judge Roger Benitez of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California wrote in the court order filed late on Friday.
“Government is not free to impose its own new policy choices on American citizens where Constitutional rights are concerned,” the order added.

The Other McCain provides an example.
Say hello to Everton Brown, a man from Baltimore, Maryland, seen here in a YouTube video from 2010, protesting at the White House, claiming that he was being targeted for harassment by the FBI.
Brown was not targeted by the FBI. He was crazy.
And what do we know about crazy people, boys and girls? We can leave it to professionals to provide a clinical diagnosis — paranoid schizophrenia, most likely — but when someone organizes their entire life around the delusional belief that they are a victim of persecution, nothing prevents citizens from concluding this person is crazy….
In case you don’t recognize the name, he died in a gun battle with police on May 8 of this year, after killing three of his neighbors.
See how this works? The law apparently does nothing to protect you from crazy people, but “the confidentiality of health records” does prevent you from finding out how many times this kook got turned loose.
Would you be surprised to learn that the Maryland legislature this year rejected a bill that would have established clear guidelines for determining if a crazy person is actually dangerous?
If it does, you need to get out more. (Oh, and stay away from Blue states like Maryland.)

Earlier this year I read Christopher Caldwell’s very striking book The Age of Entitlement: America Since the Sixties. Caldwell argued that the reforms of the 1960s, which seemed necessary and humane at the time to correct obvious injustices, had serious negative consequences, leading eventually to many of the issues that so divide and anger us today. A powerful and brilliant essay by political scientist Richard Hanania has just followed up on this insight.

The Washington Post reports that the current U.S. Senate is the oldest in American history. Dianne Feinstein turns 88 this month. Charles Grassley turns 88 in September.
Richard Shelby is 87. James Inhofe is 86. Patrick Leahy is 81. Twenty-three senators are in their 70s. The average age of senators at the beginning of this year was 64.3 years.
It may be that being 88 now is like being, say, 78 a few decades ago. So despite being the oldest, this might not be the most age-impaired Senate in our history. Robert Caro’s book about the Lyndon Johnson-dominated Senate makes it clear that more than a few solons of the 1950s were rendered largely useless by age and/or drink.
Dianne Feinstein and some of the other Senators cited in the Post’s article insist they are still as sharp as a tack. But there must be a few who are losing it. A local pharmacist said in 2017 that he routinely sends Alzheimer’s medication to Capitol Hill.
In reality, it’s likely that most, if not all, of the Senators in their 80s and late 70s aren’t nearly as sharp as they used to be. To me, the interesting question is whether they realize this.

Liberal journalists keep falling victim to conservative “disinformation campaigns,” liberal journalists have declared.
The libs are particularly aggrieved over the Associated Press’s decision to rescind its job offer to Emily Wilder, an anti-Israel activist. They are equally perturbed by the University of North Carolina’s decision to award New York Times opinion writer Nikole Hannah-Jones a five-year contract worth $900,000, as opposed to a tenured position worth even more.
By most standards, neither the Associated Press nor the University of North Carolina is a particularly “conservative” institution. But that hasn’t stopped critics from suggesting their decisions were influenced by conservative “disinformation.”
And if you dig deep enough you’re sure to find out that it’s Trump’s Fault.
