Venezuela is a poster child for the process whereby a nominally democratic country can be taken over by a socialist dictatorship with very little effort.

On the other hand, it gives him three hours to talk directly to 20 million people, so that must be worth something. (Cue complaints to the FEC.)

BBC does the work American ‘media’ won’t do.
Harris: “Trump said ‘there were fine people on both sides’ in far-right protests.”
Verdict: The quote is correct, but President Trump said in the same press conference that he wasn’t referring to neo-Nazis or white nationalists.
Kamala Harris brought up President Trump’s controversial comments following far-right protests in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017. Violent clashes left one of the counter-protesters dead.
According to a transcript of a press conference on 15 August, President Trump did say – when asked about the presence of neo-Nazis at the rally – “you had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides.”
However, at the same press conference, Mr Trump went on to say “I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally.”
Not one American media outlet pointed out that this central claim of the Biden/Harris campaign is a barefaced lie.

ZMan looks behind the curtains.
Obviously, the managerial class is working hard to get the evil Donald Trump voted out of office next month. Note that there is very little in the way of a propaganda campaign in favor of Biden and Harris. The former is mostly in hiding and the latter has been completely forgotten, despite the fact she is the actual candidate. The goal of the information campaign is to play a form of three-card Monte, in which the public never actually sees the option placed in front of them.
Instead of a conventional campaign on behalf of the candidate, we have a social proof heuristic through the use of polling and media coverage. Everywhere you turn there are polls telling us how everyone hates Trump. Polling, we’re told, says he is facing a historic defeat next month. The media is full of stories about how this group or that group is angry or disappointed in Trump. They have created an environment in which people are ashamed to say they are voting for Trump.

What good is a second amendment or any law if the government will not abide by them? A government that will only interpret law against its opponents and forgive them against their friends. This is not the America I thought I live in. I have to thank COVID for that. As cynical as I ever was about my government and its legal system this, the pandemic is proving that I was a babe-in-the-woods optimist at heart. Did any of you foresee or even think possible the never-ending lockdown and the politics afterward?
What use is a Second Amendment to defend yourself and your home only to have your government keep coming after you until you fall? Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the St. Louis couple that defended their home over the summer from a large group of marching demonstrators, should be protected but that does not seem to be so. Maybe they will stay out of jail but this thing is going to cost them dearly.
On the other hand, if you loot and riot in a city for 120-plus days and finally got yourself arrested, if you are on the Left it’s just a resume builder. Especially if you are a Democrat politician. Louisville’s Democrat mayor has been bending over backward to help these “protestors” and is handing out settlements like they are candy.

Diamond is an effective electrical insulator, but that might not always be the case according to a new study from MIT and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore. Working with colleagues, he has developed a thin, mirror-like film engineered to maximize radiative cooling on a molecular level. The film sends heat into space while absorbing almost no radiation, lowering the temperature of objects by more than 10 degrees, even in the midday sun. It can help cool pipes and panels — like a booster rocket for refrigerators and cooling systems. Incorporated into buildings, it may even replace air conditioning. And it requires no electricity, no special fuel — just a clear day and a view of the sky.

Going to college isn’t about learning, but about credentialing — for most students anyway. They take a smattering of courses, the content of which they quickly forget, have fun, and blow through a great amount of money. At the end, a school gives them a piece of paper attesting to their “education.”
To many employers, that paper is now “required.” They seldom care about the content of the individual’s supposed studies, but merely that he made it through. What if there were a better device for signaling trainability without the huge cost?
British universities grant their degrees based on examinations. The three years a student spends at the university is devoted to attending lectures and working with a tutor, and the degree depends on the outcome of a series of in-depth exams extending over about a week. This ensures that the recipient actually can do what the degree says the recipient can do. I like this system a lot. It is much superior to the collect-enough-boxtops approach modern American colleges use.

Last week, Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe declassified information to the effect that U.S. intelligence agencies “obtained insight into Russian intelligence analysis alleging that U.S. Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton had approved a campaign plan to stir up a scandal against U.S. Presidential candidate Donald Trump by tying him to Putin and the Russians’ hacking of the Democratic National Committee.” Ratcliffe also indicated at that time that CIA Director John Brennan briefed President Obama and others on the intelligence. Today Ratcliffe declassified documents relating to last week’s communication, including handwritten notes by John Brennan.

Philosophy’s goal was once to learn how people can flourish, how they can employ their lives to the best effect. As the West has become increasingly wealthy, though, Philosophy has become unmoored. It has ventured off into beliefs that are not only contrary to human flourishing but are contrary to human survival.
Take, for example, the postmodern’s non sequitur: There is an infinite number of ways in which to interpret a text (which is true), and no interpretation is better than another (false). The example I like to use is a text on defusing a bomb. While it’s true that there is an infinite number of ways in which to read the text, there is only one that will keep you alive.
We can only indulge this belief if someone else defuses our bombs for us. In other words, post-modern thought is a belief system born of the privilege of not having to perform countless humdrum tasks that are needed for bare survival.

President Donald Trump continues to confound academics as they try to explain possible correlations between Google searches and electoral victory. The conclusion? It’s all up for grabs!
Psychology Today’s report concluded that Trump is once again the chaos candidate. The article’s main observation suggested: “The polls might be way off, again.” In past elections, there has been a correlation between a candidate’s popularity in Google search and his electoral victory. The study “Google Search Predicts Big Surprise in November Election,” clarified that “in 2016, search interest in Trump actually did accurately predict the election result.” Even so, the article mused that “Google search data may not have the same predictive power as in previous elections.”

Scan the biographies of the political class and the thing you will be hard pressed to find is anything resembling real world experience. Few have ever worked in the dreaded private sector. Those that have, worked in the law or maybe finance. These careers were just alternative paths to the place they wanted to be all along. There are no sons of the soil in Washington. The exception is President Trump, which is why he is hated by the entire political class. He is not one of them.
…
This great gap between the Cloud People and the Dirt People in the nature of human organization and hierarchy is the great source of friction. We see that with the response to the Covid virus. The petty tyrants in the lowest level of the petty aristocracy just assumed the rest of us would happily follow their orders. The striking feature of this pandemic is how the political class is resentful that the public has not celebrated them in song and story for their heroism during these times.

An open letter released today and signed by 21 scholars and public writers calls on the Pulitzer Prize Board to rescind the Prize for Commentary awarded to Nikole Hannah-Jones for her lead essay in “The 1619 Project.”
The letter revisits the sorry tale of the 1619 Project’s errors and distortions and invokes these in calling for the revocation of the prize. The recent revelations that The New York Times stealthily edited out the signature claim of the project—that the advent of slavery in the year 1619 constitutes our country’s “true founding”—were, however, the immediate occasion for this letter. As Phillip Magness (another signatory) has shown, Nikole Hannah-Jones has several times denied ever claiming that 1619 was our true founding, although in fact she has made this latter claim repeatedly.

So, Trump is on steroids. My first question is, how can you tell? Second, is not the phrase “Trump is on steroids” a liberal’s worst waking nightmare? I have every expectation that if he’s still on steroids at the next debate, the first time Biden pops off Trump will go all Incredible Hulk on him, and it will look something like this (which I still enjoy almost as much as those highlight reels of the media on election night in 2016), except on steroids!
Watching left-Twitter the last few days, coming up with a new conspiracy/deception theories about every 15 seconds, it occurs to me that they’ve never realized that of course a Manhattan real estate developer would know how to live rent-free in their heads for four years. Rent control won’t help them now! And the great thing is, even if Trump loses the election, he will continue to haunt liberals for the rest of their lives.

The foundation’s report, “Critical Condition,” highlights the severity of the problem: inaccurate voter rolls, duplicate registrations, dead voters, and incomplete registrations—all of which allow fraud by those willing to exploit vulnerabilities in the system.
The foundation discovered more than 140,000 instances of potential election fraud in the 2016 and 2018 elections, ranging from individuals illegally voting in multiple states to someone voting in the name of a deceased person.
The Public Interest Legal Foundation created the type of database that President Donald Trump’s Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity wanted to create, but was prevented from doing so by numerous frivolous lawsuits filed by the left.
But of course vote fraud doesn’t exist, since all the DemLegHump Media say it doesn’t.

In a study, published in the journal eLife on September 29, 2020, the researchers identified a factor that acts like a molecular switch in the skin of baby mice that controls the formation of hair follicles as they develop during the first week of life. The switch is mostly turned off after skin forms and remains off in adult tissue. When it was activated in specialized cells in adult mice, their skin was able to heal wounds without scarring. The reformed skin even included fur and could make goosebumps, an ability that is lost in adult human scars.

Teenagers seem to be doing a seminar lately on this topic. For example, carjacking people at gunpoint? What do you think the odds are that a teenage boy is going to get away with this crime? He’s not an experienced driver, whereas the cops have logged many hours of training in pursuit tactics, with radio communications to assist them. And when the cops catch you, knowing that you have just used a firearm to commit a felony, do you think they they’ll leave their pistols in their holsters?
No, boy, you’re going to be confronted by cops with guns drawn screaming: “Let me see your hands! Let me see your hands!”
How does this night differ from every other night?
It’s nice to have an opportunity to highlight white teenagers getting shot by the cops. No protest marches. No NBA players kneeling. No mention of these victims of “excessive force” on CNN. Cops can shoot as many white perps as they want, and nobody cares. Just a local crime story.
