The pandemic has created a butchering capacity shortage in the U.S. It’s illegal for ranchers to butcher their own animals and sell them directly to consumers, but a new state law offers relief.
…
A cow sold to restaurants or retailers has to be processed at a USDA-certified facility.
Why would it be illegal for ranchers to butcher their own animals? Does that make any sense at all?

The Antifas or “anti-fascists” were all but unknown to Americans until after the election of Donald Trump four years ago. In the fall and winter of 2016-2017 they appeared in “black bloc” gear on the streets of American cities like Minerva bursting full-grown from the head of Zeus. In the ensuing years they have continued to ravage public spaces across the country, and have joined forces with Black Lives Matter to the point that the shock troops of the two groups are all but indistinguishable.

A front page story in yesterday’s Minneapolis Star Tribune is a good illustration of how corrupt today’s press has become. It would be insignificant, except for the fact that its dishonesty is replicated thousands of times every day, in newspapers across the country.
The Strib’s story is headlined, in the print edition, “Town Lashes Out at Floyd’s Uncle.” The story refers to a controversy that occurred several months ago in Gettysburg, South Dakota, population 1,162, where, coincidentally, George Floyd’s uncle Selwyn Jones lives. Strib reporter Chao Xiong describes the controversy this way: “Jones led the charge to remove Confederate flag-adorned patches from the uniforms of Gettysburg police.” At the outset, there are several problems with this story.

This article from the New York Times is an overview of how the Crust recruits new members and succeeds in brainwashing a considerable part of what ought to be Middle America.
Obviously, this guy went to Yale after the rot set in, so his experience doesn’t match those of us who went there in ‘the good old days’ (which weren’t all that good, just less bad than now). To a considerable degree, ‘wokeness’ is simply an attempt by parvenus to blend in with what they think is the Upper Class, especially black kids who have been promoted beyond their competence — they come to think that the way to success is to be activist assholes, and for the most part they’re right.

In recent decades, “racial disparity” has become the central framework for discussing inequities affecting African Americans in the United States. In this usage, disparity refers to the disproportionate statistical representation of some categorically defined populations on average in the distribution of undesirable things—unemployment, low wages, infant mortality, poor education, incarceration, etc. And by corollary logic, such social groupings are also found to be statistically underrepresented in desirable things—wealth, income, educational attainment, etc.
…
This way of thinking about injustice and what does and doesn’t call for remedial action has its roots in enforcement of anti-discrimination law in the 1960s and 1970s. Identifying disparate treatment or outcomes that correlate with racial difference can be a critical step in validating a complaint. However, the inclination to fixate on such disparities as the only objectionable form of inequality can create perverse political incentives. We devote a great deal of rhetorical and analytic energy to the project of determining just which groups, or population categories, suffer or have suffered the worst. Cynics have sometimes referred to this brand of what we might term political one-downsmanship as the “oppression Olympics”—a contest in which groups that have attained or are vying for legal protection effectively compete for the moral or cultural authority that comes with the designation of most victimized.
Women and minorities hardest hit.

Once again, I’m venturing into a college town, a stranger in a strange land. This is where you can finally find one or two Biden/Harris signs. Which isn’t so bad, but there’s a prevailing sentiment that Bernie Sanders is an okay guy and might still have the right idea. Months after he took the money & ran. People can’t figure out what smells.
Resentment appeals to people, especially to people who pay attention to politics only occasionally. I suppose it’s like a smoothie, that first sip is enticing and delicious. Nobody wants to suck away at it all day, but that’s okay because with politics people only pay attention long enough to form an opinion. They can’t see what their resentments are doing to them, and to the rest of us.

If I’m reading this correctly, the Democratic candidate for Senate in South Carolina believes that Tim Scott, who is already a senator from South Carolina, intends to vote for a Supreme Court nominee, who herself has two black children, who will put him back in chains? In what, one of those 13th Amendment cases we get regularly? Our politics is really rather stupid sometimes.

In Manufacturing Consent, Noam Chomsky and Edward Herman describe how the Establishment creates a softly coercive consensus using the combined power of corporate media, DC think tanks, and the military-industrial complex. By laundering information through this vast network, the system is able to fabricate perceived realities at odds with reality itself. Future president Kamala Harris is the personification of this process….

Quick! If you have heard of Congressman Max Rose (D), what is the most significant vote he has cast during his first and only term in office? If you know the answer, I am sure most of you answered that it was his vote to impeach President Donald Trump despite his earlier promise he would not do so.
Therefore you would figure that if he gives an extensive interview to a publication such as Vanity Fair, that he would be asked about that impeachment vote which is now political poison for him since his congressional district comprising Staten Island and part of Brooklyn is the most conservative district in New York City. Added to that he is currently in a very tough congressional race with Republican opponent Nicole Malliotakis.
As part of its effort by Vanity Fair to portray Rose as some sort of moderate despite his vote to impeach, the very first sentence of the introduction to the October 9 interview by Peter Hamby makes Rose seem as somehow a defender of Trump despite voting to remove him from office.

Some New Hampshire residents have been getting unidentified mailers containing an absentee ballot application form with a handwritten note saying, “You are needed,” instructing the recipient to fill it out, the attorney general’s office said.
State law requires that such mailings contain the identity of the entity mailing and distributing the form, the attorney general’s office said in a news release Thursday. There’s no identification with the mailer, which also includes a return envelope with the recipient’s town or city clerk in the address block.

A local television station, Fox 9, published a report on the Veritas videos that was essentially a smear. That report has blown up in the face of reporter Tom Lyden, who produced it. Lyden simply took the principal miscreant seen in one of the Veritas videos, a ballot harvester named Liban, and tried to turn him into a hero. On Fox 9, Liban said that he lied in his own Snapchat video when he said that he had illegally harvested 300 ballots on behalf of a DFL candidate, when in fact he had illegally harvested only 20. A great defense! Lyden also published Liban’s unsupported assertion that Omar Jamal had offered him $10,000 as though it were a fact, notwithstanding that it came from an admitted criminal and liar. Further, Lyden claimed that Jamal himself had recanted his story. This was apparently based on a misunderstanding of something that Jamal said in Somali. I have met with Omar Jamal, and I can assure you that he has recanted nothing.

Crowley became a real-time, partisan fact-checker, rather than a moderator—but of a peculiar sort that did not fully assume her new role until Obama himself was desperate for a bailout.
Crowley’s crazy logic apparently was that Obama really had meant Benghazi when he deliberately talked only in vague terms about generic acts of terror shortly after the attack, but then for the next two weeks nonetheless had allowed his subordinates to float the trial balloon of an alternate reality video, before giving it up when the evidence made peddling that fiction impossible.

We are a little over three weeks from the most consequential election in the history of the republic, according to the media. In reality, this election will probably not be all that interesting or consequential. Few elections make much of a difference, when viewed in the grand scheme of things. The great fear of democracy was that it would lead to wild swings in public policy. In reality, democracy results in a shadow elite maintaining their preferred course, regardless of the election results.
There are some exceptions. In 1960, the Illinois Democrat Party rigged their election in favor of Kennedy. If Nixon had won, there is a good chance Vietnam would not have happened as it did, which would have changed the arc of the 60’s. The anti-war movement was the energy of the cultural revolution. It also means Johnson’s Great Society would not have happened. Probably something else would have been passed, but it would not have been that program.

So it’s a little perverse that when Harris finally showed up for big-league questioning at the vice presidential debate, moderator Susan Page of USA Today gave her little-league questioning.
