Sports Blogger Calls for ‘Black Liberation,’ More of What NFL Fans Are Rejecting

13th September 2020

Read it.

During the NFL’s Thursday night season opener, fans at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium and the television viewers at home made it clear they are not cool with athlete activism in the workplace. Particularly the Marxist brand of Black Lives Matter activism. That’s unacceptable with the NFL, says sports blogger Tyler Tynes of The Ringer.

The fans in attendance Thursday expressed themselves with boos and those at home did likewise by simply by not tuning in on television. Viewership on television crashed to a 10-year low for an NFL season opener.

Yet in an interview with NPR’s Sacha Pfeiffer, The Ringer’s Tyler Tynes urged African American athletes to give the fans even more of what they don’t want.

The blogger in question is, of course, black.

Politico Remarkably Incurious Why Biden Keeps Hiding, Putting Off Press, Calling ‘Lid’ Days

13th September 2020

Read it.

Imagine a presidential candidate taking an absurdly large number of days off right when the post-Labor Day campaign kicks off? Would that not be big news? Well, you don’t have to imagine this strange scenario very hard because it is actually happening.

The Joe Biden campaign announced that last Tuesday, the first day after Labor Day, would be a ‘lid” day meaning Biden would not only not be campaigning but he wouldn’t be taking any questions from reporters.

Scott Adams reports a delicious rumor that Biden is on dementia medication that makes him incontinent, so they have to limit his time in public. I don’t believe it, but I want it to be true.

The EmDrive Just Won’t Die

13th September 2020

Read it.

When DARPA put money behind the controversial EmDrive in 2018, it looked like a big gamble. Many physicists had dismissed the revolutionary space drive as simply fake science. Now its EmDrive project is greenlit for Phase 2, DARPA told Popular Mechanics in February this year. Meanwhile, other teams are hoping to reach a final demonstration of the technology later this year.

“This is a technology which could transform space travel and see craft lifting silently off from launchpads and reaching beyond the solar system,” says Mike McCulloch, a lecturer in geomatics at the University of Plymouth, U.K., and leader behind DARPA’s EmDrive project. “We can also get an unmanned probe to Proxima Centauri in a (long) human lifetime, 90 years.”

Breakthrough Electrocatalyst Turns Carbon Dioxide Into Ethanol

13th September 2020

Read it.

A research team led by scientists from Argonne National Laboratory, the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering and Northern Illinois University has discovered a new electrocatalyst that can consistently convert carbon dioxide and water into ethanol with very high energy efficiency and low cost.

Because carbon dioxide is a stable molecule, transforming it into a different molecule is normally energy intensive and costly.

But the new process can electrochemically convert the carbon dioxide emitted from industrial processes—such as fossil fuel or alcohol fermentation plants—into a valuable commodity at reasonable cost. Ethanol is an ingredient in nearly all U.S. gasoline and is widely used as an intermediate product in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries.

Unfortunately for the Greenies, alcohol isn’t as energy-dense as gasoline. But they keep trying.

Quotations from Dementia Joe

13th September 2020

Read it.

In his Boston Herald column today, Howie Carr gets the ball rolling for Dementia Joe, as he calls him. He collects quotable quotes from the past week. Each one is risible, not for its megalomania or falsity, but rather for its incoherence and confusion. As I have been saying, the man has half a mind to be president.

Howie observes: “Practically none of this Biden babbling ever makes the network newscasts, because the ‘reporters’ are all Democrat stenographers with press passes. The campaign seems to permit no questions except from those card-carrying comrades reliably in the satchel.”

COVID-19: Evidence Shows That Transmission by Schoolchildren Is Low

13th September 2020

Read it.

Much fuss has been made in the UK, not least by teachers’ unions, about recommencing physical school attendance. As this issue applies to many countries, I thought it worth highlighting research findings in Europe.

While it is evident that school age children can be infected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, it is extremely rare for them to become seriously ill with COVID-19, and their risk of dying as a result of infection is almost zero. The relevant issue is therefore how much children’s contribution to the spread of COVID-19 to adults, by themselves or via other children, is affected by school attendance.

Pandemic Panic – It’s Titanic!

Zoom Towns And The New Housing Market For The 2 Americas

13th September 2020

Read it.

Truckee, Calif., is a mountain town just northwest of Lake Tahoe. It is sort of an outdoorsy paradise. It has great skiing, mountain biking and hiking opportunities, as well as a river and lakes. It also has some great restaurants and a budding art scene. And if you’re a Bay Area resident in the market for a house, it has another thing going for it: It has a median home price that’s roughly half that of San Francisco, about three hours away.

Like a lot of other vacation destinations — the Hamptons, Cape Cod, Aspen and so on — the Truckee housing market is booming during the coronavirus pandemic. It’s up over 23% since last year, according to data from Redfin, a real estate brokerage. Truckee is part of a trend that realtors and journalists are calling “Zoom towns,” places that are booming as remote work takes off.

Yeah, but you’re still in California, with California taxes and dysfunctional California politicians.

Univision Hides Protesters at Harris Visit to FL Restaurant

12th September 2020

Read it.

Within the space of one hour, Univision chose to omit mention of a protest (yet again), while giving the Democratic vice-presidential candidate celebrity treatment during a PR stint that included an ´unannounced´ visit to a Venezuelan restaurant in an effort to attract Latino voters.

As you can see from the following video that compares the Telemundo and Univision reports on Harris´ trip to South Florida, Telemundo anchor Jose Diaz-Balart did acknowledge that “outside, there were also protesters with pro President Trump posters.” What he did not say was that the group, from Latinos for Trump, was there on behalf of Cubans, Venezuelans and Nicaraguans who suffered the hardships of socialist and communist regimes.

All is not well in the coalition of the fringes.

Who’s missing? Anyone remotely right of center. Think Candace Owens, Nikki Haley, Condaleezza Rice or Kellyanne Conway, to name just a few.

The Echo Chamber

12th September 2020

ZMan peeks behind the curtain.

For generations now, the mass media has referred to itself as the echo chamber or the media echo chamber, at least with regards to politics. A favorite politician or pundit says something pithy or useful and the media repeats it verbatim until everyone is sick of hearing it. After the 2010 midterms, Barak Obama used the word “shellacked” as in his team was “shellacked”, and the media repeated it every hour for days as if it was wisdom sent down from the heavens.

This was an insight the Clinton crime syndicate figured out how to use to their advantage back in the 1990’s. They would come up with some slogan they wanted to get the media repeating. They would then have their mouth pieces repeat the line over and over in their media appearances. The media would get the hint and then start repeating the slogan over and over. What they essentially did is weaponize the natural conformity of the mass media and use it as a propaganda organ.

LA County’s Public Health Director Says What We Suspected About the Lockdown

12th September 2020

Read it.

A Democrat bureaucrat finally said what we all have known to be the truth: the Wuhan virus limitations that Democrat politicians and bureaucrats have imposed on Americans will go away after the election because that was the plan all along.

As 2019 ended, the Democrats knew that Trump was cruising to re-election. He’d kept his base because he kept his promises about the wall, trade deals, the military, abortion, and our Second Amendment rights. Best of all, he’d supercharged the economy with tax and regulation cuts. The surging economy enticed other Americans who had not voted for Trump in 2016 to contemplate voting for him in 2020.

The Democrats’ troubles continued in 2020. In January, their impeachment imploded. Worst of all, the Democrat primary candidates did not excite the base. The only passion was for a spittle-flecked, wild-haired old communist, and the Democrats knew that, even in 2020, nominating a communist was a bridge too far. The Wuhan virus was an extraordinary and unlooked-for blessing for the Democrats because they used it to destroy Trump’s economy.

I love the smell of conspiracy in the morning. Personally, I don’t think that there are enough Democrats who have the wit to look that far ahead. But that’s me.

Something in New York Is Dying

11th September 2020

Read it.

A recent blog post by investor and stand-up comedian James Altucher (mentioned here) arguing that New York is dead forever attracted the hostility of many New Yorkers. Fellow comedian Jerry Seinfeld wrote a New York Times op-ed calling Altucher a “whimpering putz.” Mayor De Blasio, naturally, agrees with Seinfeld.

With all due respect to these people, they missed Altucher’s point. New York as a city will survive. But New York as an ideal, a place that builds wealth and fulfills dreams like nowhere else in America, will not. Not to put too many words in Altucher’s mouth, what is really dead is the idea that New York City or Manhattan densities are necessary have a healthy economy and diverse culture.

Altucher pointed out that the pandemic has taught high-income people that they don’t need to deal with the congestion, high costs of living, homeless people, crime, and other stresses of the densest city in America. The things that made New York attractive are disappearing: lots of restaurants are permanently closed; lots of entertainment businesses promise to reopen next year, but no one knows if they will.

A Confused NFL Stumbles Out of the Gate With Social Justice Virtue-Signaling

11th September 2020

Read it.

If time was measured in news cycles, it has been roughly 17.765329 years since professional football has graced our screens. But, defying all of the odds, and media narratives, the NFL season returned for its first game of the season Thursday night.

The game itself was surprisingly high quality, considering the lack of a pre-season due to COVID-19. Reigning Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, took the field against a traditionally high-powered Houston Texans team.

That was not what caught the eyes of most people who tuned in, however.

The NFL has the same problem as the NBA: Most of their audience, and certainly the more profitable part, are white, while their ‘equipment’ are mostly black.

Housing Costs for the Homeless Rose to $531,000 a Unit, L.A. Controller’s Report Says

11th September 2020

Read it.

The average cost of building a single unit of housing for the homeless in Los Angeles has risen to $531,000, according to an audit from the city controller, who recommends that L.A. rehab motels and open dormitory-style buildings to save money and get people off the streets quickly.

Controller Ron Galperin, in a report due Wednesday, also cited two projects whose costs soared to nearly $750,0000 per unit and assailed delays that he said have driven city-funded homeless construction expenses up from initial projections of $350,000 a unit.

Nearly four years after voters approved Proposition HHH, only three projects have opened, construction has not started on three-quarters of the planned units, and many projects may “never come to fruition,” said Galperin, adding that the delays began before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Narco Submarine: Coast Guard Stop Smugglers In Pacific

11th September 2020

Read it.

Like almost all narco submarines this vessel was not actually a true submarine. Instead it is more of a ‘semi-submersible’ or what is called a low profile vessel (LPV). This means that it runs as low in the water as possible which makes it very hard to detect. Just how low can be seen in the Coast Guard video, note how the waves wash over the front of the boat.

These vessels are most active in the Eastern Pacific, coming up from Colombia. This is why San Diego based Coast Guard cutters seem to get the lion’s share of them. They are built in secret ‘artisan’ boat yards hidden in the myriad of jungle estuaries which lead to the sea. Narco submarines can also be found in the Caribbean and, increasingly, in the Atlantic.
