BILLUND, DENMARK—The world is hurting right now, and everyone knows that the only thing that can heal the wound is big corporations announcing their positions on things.
Well, we’ve taken a big step toward unity today as LEGO announced all building sets in the future would remove the police and replace them with rioters from groups such as Antifa. The new “LEGO Riot City” line of building bricks brings a real, police-less LEGO utopia right to your tabletop.

Minnesota’s Farmer-Labor Party merged with the state Democratic Party in April 1944. Thus was the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party born.
Working from inside the Democratic Party, Hubert Humphrey helped engineer the merger. The Farmer-Labor Party was riddled with Communists. Humphrey knew it, but he had no trouble working with them. At the time he was a Popular Front kind of guy with no enemies to the left.
Packing the 1946 party caucuses, Communists promptly took over the DFL. In Hennepin County (including all of Minneapolis), then Minneapolis Mayor Humphrey could not even get elected a delegate to the state convention. Communists picked up no fewer than 120 of the 160 Hennepin County delegates. In Minneapolis’s Second Ward, both Humphrey and his ally Arthur Naftalin (future Minneapolis mayor and father of Paul Butterfield Blues Band keyboardist Mark Naftalin) went down to defeat.

During MSNBC’s Tuesday coverage of George Floyd’s funeral in Houston, Joy Reid took the opportunity to revise history and push the idea that all the racists became Republicans after the historic 1964 Civil Rights Act.
Reid explained, “It was Lyndon Johnson completing the work that Kennedy began. That act would have been a 1963 act had it been able to go through. But the resistance of white segregationists, at the time white Democrats in the south, people who ultimately moved into the Republican Party in outrage over the betrayal by Lyndon Johnson, who betrayed his region and his race by pushing through the martyred Kennedy’s bill after the martyrdom of so many black men and women.”
Joy Reid doesn’t know much of anything, actually.

New York City, the metropolitan area hardest hit by the domestic coronavirus outbreak, is losing residents at an unprecedented clip, according to local moving companies.
Roadway Moving President Ross Sapir, for example, told FOX Business that people are moving out of Manhattan in numbers he has “never seen before,” as his company deals with its busiest season since its 2008 inception.
“It’s insane … I’ve never seen such growth,” Sapir said. “[Business is] double or triple compared to any other season as far as moving out of the city.”
On some days, Roadway experiences a 200 percent increase in leaving inquiries. Its clientele consists largely of higher net-worth individuals, typically 25-year-old to 45-year-old professionals in well-to-do parts of Manhattan.
Most of them taking their stupid proglodyte ideas with them.

Sarah Hoyt lays it out.
I’ve said before that the left in the twenty first century seems to have a curious form of autism, in which groups are essential, and people who belong to groups are interchangeable widgets.
Not only that, but they have the duty of being interchangeable widgets. How else do you explain the left calling someone a race or gender “traitor” for not thinking exactly the thoughts the left assigned them?
This is a great part of their mind reading schtick. If you oppose them, they know that you wish for the exact opposite of what they claim to want, and therefore you must for sure want the opposite.
So, say you say something like “Sure, we should encourage girls, but we can encourage boys too.” Because — being binary — by “encourage girls” they mean “promote female supremacy” they KNOW that you want to promote male supremacy.
But it goes way beyond that, to the point that one thinks they must be robots thinking in 0s and 1s and nothing else exists in the world.

While it may seem as if America’s Establishment has suddenly gone insane, elites are just following out the inevitable logic of dogmas mandated decades ago.
As I’ve been pointing out for approaching thirty years now, the rationale of mainstream left-of-centrism eventually leads to some extraordinarily radical and impractical conclusions. The current craziness is rooted in ideas that seemed rather moderate when they first became mandatory. But, as Lenin liked to point out, “He who says ‘A’ must say ‘B.’” The bill for starting from dishonest premises is now coming due.

Modern science has presented us with some experimental compounds that offer exciting possibilities when it comes to tackling obesity. Some trick the body into thinking that it has already had enough to eat, others manipulate the metabolic process so that the body burns off more fat than is actually necessary. Researchers have come across a new molecule that falls in with the latter category, reducing body fat in mice without changes to their diet.
Mice get all the good stuff.

Someone who previously claimed to be a Republican, has not voted Republican since 2004 and/or worked for losing campaigns years ago voices their support for Joe Biden and the media pounces. David Cole is not afraid to ask the hard question.
Can we say no? There, nailed it. Is the destruction of the West predetermined? Are we just going through the motions of letting “the people” decide, just pretending that the citizens, the voters, the taxpayers can say no to what the powers that be have already decided must occur? Either we can say no or we can’t. And if we can’t, just admit it; drop the illusion that anything we say, or anything we do, can stop the civilizational decline.
Can we say no to the Third Worlding of the West? Generally, in Western Europe, you can’t. If you say no a little too stridently, you get arrested as a hate criminal, banned from speaking publicly, and banished from political organizing and activity.
But what about here in the U.S.? Can we say no to our demographic decline? Well, we certainly tried in 2016. Candidate Trump ran on the most unambiguous platform (with the most specific pledges) in recent American history. No Michael Dukakis “uncertainty of purpose” there! Trump voters knew what they were voting for. So, we said no to open borders and lawless aliens, only to be told by the Democrats, most Republicans, the media, and Trump’s own inner circle that “yes” was the only allowable answer.

Steve shares.
It irks me that I know nothing about long range rifle shooting. I bought a .308 over a decade ago for the purpose of learning to shoot at long distances, and nothing came of it. I bought something like 1700 rounds of military ammunition made for machine guns, figuring it was good enough to start with and good enough in case I ever needed the gun for zombie hordes. I shot maybe 200 rounds. Then I quit. I have a million interests, and I flit from pursuit to pursuit like a fly meandering through a pasture full of unusually alluring cow pies. I’m fickle. Also, I lived in a city where shooting over 100 yards is impossible, except when firing into the air on holidays, if you’re Cuban.
…
Single-MOA shooting at 100 yards is no joke. It means you can usually hit a large grape a football field away. Most rifles can’t do it regardless of the ammunition or the skill of the person shooting. The rifles that can have to have the right ammunition, and you have to be able to shoot very well. You can’t just grab a random deer rifle at Dick’s, fill it with random ammunition, shoot leaning against a tree, and shoot 1 MOA. They do it in the movies, but movies are for idiots. I saw a movie where Will Smith threw a sperm whale.
Steve once had a blog called Hog On Ice and wrote a book called Eat What You Want and Die Like a Man, with his favorite artery-clogging recipes. I have a copy.

New York City released over 2,650 criminals from prison to protect them from the pandemic. But they didn’t stay home or wash their hands. They went back to their old jobs and 100 of them accounted for 190 arrests for crimes like burglary and robbery. A rapist was released and he went back to raping.
One of the freed criminals was responsible for 18 burglaries at closed eateries. And when he was arrested, the end of bail meant that he was set loose. This looting was going on long before the riots.
Now as the rioters and looters rule the streets of Manhattan, when the police manage to arrest them, they have to quickly let them go.

ZMan attempts to riddle it out.
One of the difficult things for people living in an ideological society is that they are suspended in a solution of propaganda. All of the information they receive is warped by the currents of the prevailing ideology. Everyone has some interest in shaping opinion, so all effort is put into promoting one thing or another. Since all parties are advancing a cause at odds with reality, truth becomes an enemy. The normal person trying to figure out what is happening is left to swim in a sea of lies.
That’s what makes the current events hard to decipher. Why has the death of a drug-addled black felon at the hands of the cops set the world on fire? Why is the institutional Left so exhilarated by the rioting? Why have the corporate oligarchs rolled out an information campaign in support of the revolts? For sure, the oligarchs are all members in good standing of the new religion, but there is an uncanny valley vibe to it. The whole thing is like a well-choreographed performance.

Tyler Cowen, a Real Economist at GMU.
That one surprised me, as indeed it did most other economists. What should I learn from this episode? After all, labor market adjustment was relatively slow coming out of the 2008 crisis.
My tentative hypothesis is that “matching” is more important than I had thought (and I already thought it was quite important, relative to other macro commentators). One feature of the current layoffs and rehirings is that the ties between workers and firms apparently were not so severed in the first place. For most sectors (cruise ships aside, etc.), no “rematches” were required, and so rehirings were accomplished very quickly. As demand (partially) returned, employers wanted at least some of the old workers back, and workers wanted their old employers back, and then it happened. “Figuring out where I belong” did not slow down the process very much.
