When I go shoppingf for wine, in particular everyday drinking wine, I give bonus points to wines with screw-tops. It’s more convenient, the bottles fit in the refrigerator more easily, and even ignoring the risk of TCA contamination, there is much less risk of failure. Everyone has seen crumbly corks and corks that broke off halfway out of the bottle, and that just doesn’t happen with screw-tops.
Wisdom Attend.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court ruled to permit the administration to go on refusing to accept applications for asylum from migrants who have passed through another country without being denied asylum there, while a case challenging this common-sense policy works its way through the courts.
That comes on the heels of the court’s decision in July to allow Trump to use money from the defense budget to build the border wall. It was yet another significant victory for the administration’s initiatives and a sign that the left’s judicial guerrilla war that had been stymieing the president is starting to crumble.
Expect liberal efforts to prevent Trump from overturning President Barack Obama’s executive orders that effectively granted amnesty to millions of illegals to meet the same fate.
How about that GREAT government-provided health care! Wouldn’t you like a system like that in the U.S.?
When government provides your health care, doctors become government employees. For examples of quality government employee work, try the Postal Service, the TSA, and a VA hospital.

A friend who is a doctor told me—and therefore it must be true—that a well-known social media site has decided that from now on it will not publish how many people “liked” what people had posted on it because some posts attracted many more “likes” than others, thereby wounding the self-esteem of those whose posts were not much “liked.” From now on, the only person to know how many “likes” his post attracts will be the person who posted it. He will not be able to compare himself with others and will therefore be able to continue to think well of himself.

The following video and its accompanying article from Samhällsnytt showcase a blatant call for a race war against whites by blacks in Sweden. It’s important to note that the outspoken young man featured in the video has Swedish citizenship.
It doesn’t get any clearer than this, yet the Gutmenschen of Sweden continue to pretend that everything is fine and dandy in the Humanitarian Superpower. Except for climate change, of course, but Greta’s going to take care of that.

That’s how bad it is, that Chappelle and Bill Burr are labeled like the Anti-PC guys.”

Shaun King is cracker ass cracker and white caucasian who long misraced himself as black, even though both of his parents are white, and say he is therefore white (obviously). In response to that, he claimed that his mother had an affair with a black man who is really his father.
The mother denies this. As does his white father. Whom Shaun King resembles.
Sounds suspicious to me, but these days you can never tell.
Since bursting on the scene as the Whitest Man in Black Lives Matter, Shaun King has started one fundraising venture after another.
People have long been questioning him: Where is all this money you keep raising? Is this just another lie of the White Devil?
Maybe he’s depending on his Semi-White Privilege to get away with it.

A religious group that sparked protests in 2016 for providing free lunches to Middleton High School students with a dose of Christian scripture has expanded to schools in Madison and Verona.
Typically such protests are on the grounds that some government regulation or requirement put in place by officious bureaucrats has not been obtempered. Quite often said officious bureaucrats, incensed that their rice bowl is being tampered with, step in with threats of fines and jail time. Fortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case here.

The three-level building near Zurich features 3D-printed ceilings, energy-efficient walls, timber beams assembled by robots on site, and an intelligent home system. Developed by a team of experts at ETH Zurich university and 30 industry partners over the course of four years, the DFAB House, measuring 2,370 square feet (220 square meters), needed 60% less cement and has passed the stringent Swiss building safety codes.
It also looks like a broken toy that somebody threw in the trash. This would appear to be an excellent illustration of the principle Just Because You Can Now Do Something A New Way Doesn’t Mean That You Ought To Do it.
Evidently the construction industry is one of the most regulated, inefficient and corrupt businesses in the US. Just replacing human workers with robots and building offsite can save enormous amounts of money and time just by avoiding all the payoffs you have to make otherwise to get anything done. That’s why a lot of these houses are being built in China at the moment.
As usually happens, the things that activists bitch about are caused by the governments to which activists want to give greater power. ‘We’re from the government and we’re here to help.’ Help like that we don’t need.

He argued that, as a vegetarian, he should have the same rights as employees who suffer discrimination over their religious beliefs or sexual orientation, which are characteristics protected by the 2010 Equality Act.
But his claim was thrown out at an employment tribunal in Norwich, Norfolk, after a judge decided that vegetarianism was a “lifestyle choice” and does not qualify for protection under the Act.
Since we now know that there is no such thing as a ‘gay gene‘, this same logic ought to apply to perverts homosexuals.

Given the omnipresence of “statistical significance” in pedagogy and the research literature, it was interesting last year when the American Statistical Association made an official statement “ASA Statement on Statistical Significance and P-Values” (discussed here) which includes comments like: “Scientific conclusions and business or policy decisions should not be based only on whether a p-value passes a specific threshold. … A p-value, or statistical significance, does not measure the size of an effect or the importance of a result. … By itself, a p-value does not provide a good measure of evidence regarding a model or hypothesis.”
Jay, I’d like to hear your thoughts on this.

One contemporary observer, a legal theorist in his mid-30s named Carl Schmitt, found the seeds of the crisis within the idea of liberalism itself. Liberal institutions like representative democracy, and the liberal ideal that all a nation’s citizens can be treated as political equals, were in his view a sham. Politics at its core is not about compromise between equal individuals but instead conflict between groups.
“Even if Bolshevism is suppressed and Fascism held at bay, the crisis of contemporary parliamentarism would not be overcome in the least,” he wrote in 1926. ”It is, in its depths, the inescapable contradiction of liberal individualism and democratic homogeneity.”

Like other reliable Voices of the Crust, the Guardian sees its job as sounding the alarm about things that normal adults would never notice. The problem is that ‘raising awareness’ is virtually indistinguishable from ‘panicking at nothing’.
Violent, isolationist and misogynist desires course through games – and push rightwing ideologies on players
‘Beware, Comrades! You are being threatened by unseen forces that only the Party can detect and from which only the Party can defend you! Place your fate in our hands if you want to survive the coming apocalypse!’
Games are ideological constructions which push a set of values on the user. Like television and film, they often support the ideologies of their context: in the Bush years, American games endorsed aggressive foreign policy; since Brexit, British games advocate isolationism or nostalgia for empire – and the prominence of anti-Islam games in the 2000s tells it all.
Translation: Games are about situations that most people want to play rather than what Social Justice Warriors would like to see dealt with. Shooting monsters is more fun than saving the planet from plastic straws.
First, rightwing ideologies have been overrepresented and dominant throughout the history of video games. Although affected by context, video games have long focused on the expulsion of “aliens” (Space Invaders to XCOM), fear of impure infection (Half-Life to The Last of Us), border control (Missile Commander to Plants vs Zombies), territory acquisition (Command & Conquer to Splatoon), empire building (Civilization to Tropico), princess recovery (Mario to Zelda), and restoration of natural harmony (Sonic to FarmVille).
Translation: Games deal with the desires of normal people, not Leftist ideologues. And we really hate that.
Games are designed so that people will buy them, and so cater to normal people’s desires; from a proglodyte perspective, What Normal People Want are Rightwing Ideologies. I take comfort in that.

As George Orwell once noted, “The worst advertisement for Socialism is its adherents.” According to Orwell, the typical socialist is “either a youthful snob-Bolshevik … or, still more typically, a prim little man with a white-collar job, usually a secret teetotaler, and often with vegetarian leanings.” Orwell wrote those words in 1937, but they’re entirely recognizable today, especially the line about vegetarianism. There’s something about the left that makes them highly neurotic about food. That’s been true for generations, but there’s evidence the impulse is getting worse.

Catch that? Warren says you eat too many cheeseburgers — as if it’s any of her business. But that’s the thing: She actually thinks it is her business. They all think that. The activist left seeks to control everything you do, including what you put in your mouth. For the last few years, they’ve been pushing you to eat bugs. Recall this headline from The Washington Post: “Eating bugs can help the environment.” Or this one from The New York Times: “Why aren’t we eating more insects?” Bizarre. Why would they want you to eat insects? Because it’s repulsive and un-American, of course, and therefore, in the eyes of the left, it must be awesome. The more perverse and unnatural the better. That’s always been the left’s standard.

It’s all right for successful, college-educated professionals like Lara Bazelon, Jeff Bercovici, Meghan Daum, and others to write about how much joy their working lives bring them. The people who edit the publications in which such articles appear are themselves college-educated professionals. They too probably enjoy their upper-middle-class lives. To my knowledge, when Bercovici wrote positively about his happy experience as a Forbes staff writer, no one accused him of sucking up to Steve Forbes, the magazine’s owner and publisher and a man whose net worth is estimated to be north of $400 million. When Meghan Daum enthuses about her work at Columbia University, no one accuses her of shilling for an institution with an endowment of more than $10 billion. Lara Bazelon has written for the Washington Post, which, like Amazon.com, is owned by Jeff Bezos. But as for as I know, no one has accused her of shilling for him.
But for working-class people, the rules are different. All those upper-middle-class professionals who edit the nation’s most prominent publications permit only one narrative when it comes to the toiling masses. Their lives are nasty, brutish, and short, and must always be portrayed as such. To publish a story about a person who enjoys working at Wal-Mart or Starbucks or Georgia Pacific or Amazon is considered tantamount to white-washing the horrific crimes (whatever those may be) of oligarchs such as the Walton family, Howard Schultz, the Koch brothers, or Bezos.
