Offices in California and Oregon will be partaking in the protest, which follows the El Paso Walmart shooting that left 22 people dead Saturday. The white-collar workers demand that one of America’s largest retailers cease gun sales, even though Walmart has regulated them since 1993, The Washington Post reported.
I’ll bet they wished they’d stayed in Bentonville AR.

Ann Coulter makes a good case.
According to the Trump hysterics, if a terrorist cites X as the reason for his attack, then: 1) that constitutes definitive proof that X is false; and 2) anyone who agrees with X is providing “material support” to terrorists.
So, I guess I’d be in trouble if I were to say, “The El Paso shooting was an awakening, a moment of reckoning with politicians’ broken immigration promises and the avenging hatreds it arouses.”
That’s a paraphrase of what Michael Ignatieff wrote in 2003 in The New York Times magazine about the American Empire provoking the 9/11 terrorists.

On January 2 of this year, the Baltimore Police Department sent out its annual analysis of the city’s homicides: in 2018, there were 309. The majority of the victims were killed in the street and almost sixty percent died from a gunshot wound to the head. Ninety-four percent were black men.
The analysis also included data on the criminal records of the victims. The vast majority of homicide victims had been arrested before. One in four were either on parole or probation when they died.
…
In May 2013, Carlos Wheeler shot a young black man named Ronnie Thomas III, who got hit in the leg but survived. In April 2014, Thomas III was arrested for shooting at someone. In June 2015, Thomas III was shot and killed. The following month, Carlos Wheeler’s brother, Nathanial, was shot and killed — in retaliation for Carlos shooting at Thomas III back in 2013, prosecutors said.
Skinny Suge, who produced Stop Fucking Snitching, is legally named Ronnie Thomas — Ronnie Thomas III was his son. Addressing Baltimore’s epidemic of violence means reaching Baltimoreans like the Thomases. Police might not be the best people for that job.

ZMan unpacks the zeitgeist.
It is conventional wisdom on certain parts of the Right that the anti-white animus we see on the Left is nothing but a practical solution to a political problem. For years, Steve Sailer has been pitching the idea that the Left has to keep its non-white auxiliaries focused on the evil white man. Otherwise they will notice they don’t like one another all that much and begin squabbling. The implication is the Left is not really anti-white. They just work that double-game for practical political consideration.
Nothing rallies the troops like an external enemy. This is why anti-semitism is always so popular with the hair-on-fire crowd, because Jews are always perceived as outsiders. That’s probably why Jews vote Democrat so readily, a desperate attempt to qualify as ‘us’ rather than ‘them’, although it never works.

In a bizarre incident that has left the police with no leads, an explosion ripped through Denmark’s national tax agency late Tuesday. Though nobody was seriously injured (one passerby was hit by flying degree and sustained minor injuries), Danish police are baffled why anybody would want to destroy the tax agency in a country that boasts one of the heaviest tax rates in the OECD.
Yeah, that’s a real head-scratcher. It’s probably Trump’s fault.

If a president cited crime statistics to rile up racial hatred, but his speech was immediately followed by a terrorist massacre, would he be criticized?
Well, not if he were Barack Obama, whose July 7, 2016, TV oration from Warsaw denouncing the police shootings of two black men was followed later that day by the murder of five policemen at a Dallas Black Lives Matter march. Ten days after Obama’s speech, three more cops were murdered in Baton Rouge.

o one objects in principle to a serious ethnic studies program, just as sensible people support “multicultural” perspectives rightly understood. The trouble with a lot of multiculturalist projects and various identity-studies programs in schools today is that they are highly politicized and ideological. This attracts some students, but it understandably turns off many students—perhaps a large majority.
Hence the demand of zealous advocates for ethnic studies to make their subject matter mandatory, as is proposed currently for California’s K-12 system.

Audacious Epigone draws an historical parallel.
It took a matter of seconds to find the personal addresses of several of these people (yes, I realize this information is publicly available through the FEC–it doesn’t matter). We are seeing the transition from the cultural wars being fought figuratively and by proxy through public champions to being literally waged against private individuals for merely expressing political preferences. If an American Sulla is what we’re collectively after, this is how one is going to come about.

Hostile architecture is an intentional design strategy that uses elements of the built environment to guide or restrict behaviour in urban space as a form of crime prevention or order maintenance. It often targets people who use or rely on public space more than others, like people who are homeless and youth, by restricting the behaviours they engage in. Also known as defensive architecture, hostile design, unpleasant design, exclusionary design, or defensive urban design, hostile architecture is most typically associated with “anti-homeless spikes” — studs embedded in flat surfaces to make sleeping rough uncomfortable, and impractical. Other measures include sloped window sills to stop people sitting, benches with armrests positioned to stop people lying on them, and water sprinklers that “intermittently come on but aren’t really watering anything.” Hostile architecture also seeks to deter skateboarding, littering, loitering, and public urination. Critics argue that such measures reinforce social divisions and create problems for all members of the public, especially seniors, people with disabilities, and children.

Here’s how Google’s solution works–introduced at its hardware event in New York City on Tuesday. It’s called simply “Call Screen,” and it’s built into Android on the Pixel 3.
- When you get a call from a number you don’t recognize on an Android device, click “Call Screen” on your device.
- Google Assistant answers the call, with a greeting like, “Hi, the person you’re calling is using a screening service from Google, and will get a copy of this conversation. Go ahead and say your name, and why you are calling.”
- The caller will either hang up–in which case it’s probably not important–or provide an answer, which will then be transcribed and displayed on your screen.
- Then it’s up to you to decide whether to answer.

Following 60 shootings in the first 96 hours of August – seven of which were deadly, Chicago’s Mount Sinai Hospital temporarily stopped accepting patients on Sunday because they hit maximum capacity after 17 people were shot between Saturday night and Sunday morning, according to Chicago’s WGN9.
Lost amidst all of this hand-wringing about the ‘mass shootings’ in El Paso and Dayton is the fact that that level of carnage happens every week in Chicago and Balitmore and other Democrat-run cities.

After the El Paso shooter uploaded a four-page manifesto to the online chat forum known as 8chan, the media and journalists lobbied for the site to be taken down.
Some liberal journalists insisted that censorship was a solution to shooters posting their manifestos on the site. Cloudflare, the network provider for 8chan, terminated its deal on August 5. This decision hindered the website’s ability to deal with law enforcement looking to close the case of the El Paso massacre and caused 8chan to shut down temporarily.
