“Your stupid boycotts will never make a dent in a company like P&G,” one liberal scoffed back in January. Turns out, they didn’t just make a dent.
After a string of male-bashing, transgender shaving ads, the parent company of Gillette got nicked so badly, market experts wonder if the brand will survive.
Gillette’s CEO insists the radical activism was “worth the price.” Let’s hope so—because so far, that price is a whopping $8 billion.
In a world that has Harry’s, who needs Gillette?

We’ll need to give the protesters the communists’ university places to make it fair.

Facebook has been recording audio clips of its users and paying contractors to copy what they say. According to Bloomberg, the employees, “who are not told where the audio was recorded or how it was obtained” are merely told to transcribe it. The anonymous workers explained how they are “hearing Facebook users’ conversations, sometimes with vulgar content, but do not know why Facebook needs them transcribed.”
Pretty creepy.

It’s been a bad week for CNN. Hosts Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon both embroiled in their own scandals, one even caught on camera. Now CNN political analyst April Ryan is in hot water after a local journalist claims he was assaulted by Ryan’s bodyguard while covering an event she was speaking at, earlier this month.
Charlie Kratovil, a local New Jersey journalist and editor of New Brunswick Today, told his story on Twitter of covering the 4th annual New Jersey Parent Summit, where Ryan was speaking on August 3. You can see the thread below. He explained that he went through all the proper channels, documenting his story with evidence, along the way. According to Fox News, they also saw the emails showing “Kratovil had previously RSVP’d to the event and received confirmation.”

Less than one week after ICE raided 7 food processing facilities in Mississippi apprehending nearly 700 illegal workers, American citizens are rushing to freshly-available jobs.
Koch Foods is headquartered in Chicago but maintains a chicken processing facility in Mississippi that employed 243 of the 680 undocumented Latino workers arrested in the raids last Thursday. Koch has since collaborated with the Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES), holding a job fair to recruit new, legal, workers, according to the Associated Press.

Scott Johnson of Power Line provides some background.
THAT’S THE POINT with Brandon has posted the video of Chris Cuomo in meltdown mode below. According to Brandon, the clip was “sent in by a TTP fan” who “went to ask Chris Cuomo for a photo, mind you the man who asked him DID NOT know his real name and knows of him only through The RUSH LIMB[AU]GH SHOW and on that show Rush repeatedly calls him ‘FREDO’ so the man legitimately thought his name was FREDO. At this point CHRIS CUOMO LOSES IT AND THREATENS THE MAN WITH VIOLENCE!”
If you listen only to Rush, you might indeed be led to believe that Chris Cuomo’s first name is “Fredo.” Rush never refers to him as anything but. However, you probably wouldn’t recognize “Fredo” in the flesh if you only listen to Rush.

“Today I remember no Greek. I have never read Latin for pleasure, and should now be hard put to it to compose a simple epitaph. But I do not regret my superficial classical studies. I believe that the conventional defence of them is valid; that only by them can a boy fullly understand that a sentence is a logical construction and that words have basic inalienable meanings, departure from which is either conscious metaphor or inexcusable vulgarity. Those who have not been so taught — most Americans and most women — unless they are guided by some rare genius, betray their deprivation. The old-fashioned test of an English sentence — will it translate? — still stands after we have lost the trick of translation.”

The Iron Curtain was an 8,000-mile border separating East from West during the Cold War. Something unexpected evolved in the “no man’s land” that the massive border created. In the absence of human intervention and disruption, an accidental wildlife refuge formed.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, conservationists from both sides of the divide realized this long-unused space could become the core path of a “European Greenbelt” connecting habitats across countries, including national parks and nature preserves.

Today is the official publication date of my friend Andrew McCarthy’s Ball of Collusion: The Plot to Rig an Election and Destroy a Presidency. Courtesy of Encounter Books I read an advance copy of the book last week and want to recommend it enthusiastically to Power Line readers. Even though I have closely followed the “collusion” story as it has come into public view since January 2017, I was reminded of pieces I had forgotten and learned details I had overlooked on every page of this riveting book.
I will certainly listen to anything that Andy McCarthy has to say on any subject.

ZMan does some diagnosis.
The underlying assumption of the White Fright is a belief that whites are secretly organizing to overthrow the current order and impose some sort of pale patriarchy on the country. These white supremacists are everywhere and look just like normal everyday white people, so any white person could possibly be one of them. These people can, at any moment, turn into a violent spree killer, if exposed to certain kinds of content called “hate speech” which is found on-line.
Go through any evvening news cast and replace ‘white’ with ‘communist’ and you’d think it was the 1950s again. (Although I think Eisenhower was a better golfer than Trump.)

Just after he became the world’s richest man one year ago, Bezos, who had until then been conspicuously absent from the world of serious charitable giving, announced that he would give $2 billion to bolster homelessness services and early childhood education in the US. He quickly sent $100 million to two dozen well-regarded nonprofits working to provide shelter to homeless families across the country.
And since then, he has done something that even the nonprofits receiving his millions remark is highly unusual: He has given them life-changing money with virtually no restrictions, formal vetting, or oversight, according to Recode’s interviews with eight of those funded by him and others familiar with his donations.
This is why the Chattering Class hate rich people — they actually get shit done.

There’s perhaps no indicator more damning of a state’s failure to govern than the flight of its residents to other states.
People of every stripe are leaving Illinois. Old and young, rich and poor. They are going to warm states and cold states, big states and small states. Overall, Illinois netted losses of residents to 43 other states in 2016.

ZMan draws a parallel.
It is an important thing to think about when analyzing what’s happening in current year America. In the West, the response to the end of the Cold War was the replacement of the old sober minded political class with their self-absorbed, amoral children. The most notable example being Bill and Hillary Clinton, who have come to symbolize Baby Boomer political culture. Theirs is a politics of limitless mendacity. Everything is for sale, including the very institution over which they preside.
