College Admissions Are Rigged In Favor Of Prominent Democrats

11th July 2019

Tucker Carlson and Neil Patel.

If you’ve ever watched Chris Cuomo on CNN, you may have wondered, How did this guy get a TV show? He can barely speak English. There are nights when Cuomo emits entire paragraphs that mean nothing at all, just pure gibberish. Cuomo went to Yale, which has famously high admissions standards. Is Cuomo a secret genius? Does he have some amazing talent that’s invisible on TV? Maybe he speaks flawless Urdu or has a deep grounding in particle physics.

Actually, it turns out he has an even more impressive qualification: His father, Mario Cuomo, was the governor of New York. If you want to get into a top American college, the most effective credential of all is to have a parent who’s a well-known Democratic politician.

Market-Based Visas: Problems, Criticisms, and Solutions

11th July 2019

Read it.

Steven Kopits of Princeton Energy Advisors wrote a few criticisms of our proposal to sell Gold Cards through a market-based program that I’ve called an immigration tariff. An immigration tariff is an attempt, based largely on Nobel Prize-winning economist Gary Becker’s idea to sell visas, to create a market-based visa that accounts for many of the most trenchant criticisms of liberalized immigration The idea is simply to create a new visa called a Gold Card without numerical quotas or caps. The Gold Card would supply permanent legal residency and work permission, but cannot be used to naturalize –like a green card lite. The government would then sell those Gold Cards for a price set with three goals in mind. Those goals are to make sure that the Gold Card is a net-fiscal windfall for the federal government, to outcompete human smugglers, and to create a more flexible immigration system that responds to the U.S. market demands.

If entrance into the United States has value, as all will admit, and if the United States is in need of more revenue, as everyone is aware, then I see no reason why visas to enter the United States ought not to be sold for whatever the market will bear.

America’s First Black Billionaire Says His Party Is ‘Too Far to the Left,’ Praises Trump Economy

11th July 2019

“The party in my opinion, for me personally, has moved too far to the left,” said Robert Johnson, founder of the cable network Black Entertainment Television and RLJ Companies, during a Tuesday interview with CNBC’s Hadley Gamble.

A self-proclaimed Democrat and centrist, Johnson, 73, went on to say, “And for that reason, I don’t have a particular candidate [I’m supporting] in the party at this time. I think at the end of the day, if a Democrat is going to beat Trump, then that person, he or she, will have to move to the center and you can’t wait too long to do that.”

French Judge Rules Murdering Terrorist Has a Right to Privacy

11th July 2019

In the court of the absurd, any fool can be a judge. That appears to be the case in France, where the Versailles Administrative Court has ruled that Islamic terrorist Salah Abdeslam has the right to a private life in prison. Abdeslam, you may recall, was captured during a March 2016 shootout with Belgium counter terrorism police. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the Brussels gunfight.

Yet another reason to be glad you aren’t a European.

At War With Ourself

11th July 2019

ZMan takes in the view from 10,000 feet.

This is the nature of woke capital. The reductionist interpretation is that the people in these corporate giants are motivated by power or political ideology. They just want to help their tribe. In reality, what drives this is a culture inside these organizations around the belief they are there to serve the greater good. Apple is not a firm that makes expensive toys in China. It is a company with a mission to make the world a better place. The people are not there to profit the company, but to benefit mankind.

The conflation of private interests and the public good that inevitably must happen in a democracy, turns every company into a religious order and every powerful man into a bishop of the civic religion. As happens in all markets, the competition for what defines the public morality consolidates into one universal public morality. The entrepreneur wants to get rich, not for material reasons, but for spiritual reasons, as that becomes the path to high status. “Giving back” is the ultimate goal of wealth.

It is not just the private sphere that is subverted by the public will. The very institutions of the democracy become one with the new religion. Instead of training young people in the practical arts, education turns into indoctrination centers. Everything about our modern education system, even the private schools, is bent toward brainwashing young people into the ideology of the state. It’s why standards have collapsed. They are making believers now, not scholars.

Snopes Attacks WashTimes, Daily Wire on Frederica Wilson’s Gaffe on Censoring Mockery

Read it.

The “fact checkers” at Snopes.com are running to the defense of liberal Democrats again in a July 10 post headlined “Did Rep. Frederica Wilson Advocate Prosecuting People Who ‘Make Fun’ of Congress?”

The answer is yes. But David Mikkelson at Snopes insisted “context is key,” that conservative media outlets like the Washington Times and the Daily Wire skipped over how Wilson was responding to rude Facebook memes.

Snopes has gone from being reliable fact-checkers to being a reliable Voice of the Crust who will join the DemLegHump Media when necessary. Very sad.

Whose Side Are They On?

11th July 2019

Read it.

That is a question that often occurs to me when I watch the Democrats’ anti-American hate-fest. (No, this post isn’t about the media’s slavering homage to Megan Rapinoe, but it could be.) The Southern border is a litmus test: do they believe that the United States has a right to exist as a sovereign nation, or don’t they?

For many Democrats, the answer evidently is No. That goes for all of the Democratic presidential contenders: I believe all of them have signed on to the notion of free medical care (along with many other welfare benefits, of course) for illegal aliens. This isn’t exactly treason–a word that is thrown around much too often these days–but it certainly amounts to selling out the interests of American citizens.

A startling example of the Democrats’ disregard of the interests of American citizens is Congresswoman Veronica Escobar, who reportedly has sent her aides to Mexico to help illegal immigrants game the asylum system by pretending that they don’t speak Spanish. Why, exactly, would an important member of our government, accountable to the citizens of the United States, do this? Last we knew, Escobar’s office had no comment.

Iranian Boats Attempt to Seize UK Tanker in Straits of Hormuz

10th July 2019

With the Persian Gulf uncharacteristically quiet in recent days, without any material provocation either real of staged, late on Wednesday CNN reported that five armed Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard boats unsuccessfully tried to seize a British oil tanker in the Persian Gulf. There was no independent verification of the report, but instead it was once again sourced to those who stands to gain the most from a way with Iran, namely “two US officials with direct knowledge of the incident.”

This ‘Endangered Species’ Case Finally Ended in Defeat for the Government

10th July 2019

Read it.

The saga began in 2012 when the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service determined that 1,544 acres of land in Louisiana was “critical habitat” for an endangered species known as the dusky gopher frog.

As a result of this designation, the federal government was considering a ban on the development of the property, depriving the private property owners of $33.9 million.

The federal government continued to pursue this action even though the dusky gopher frog has not been seen in Louisiana in over 50 years. The frog couldn’t even survive on the property. The only way the area could support the frog is if the private property owners make major and costly changes to the property—changes they have said they have no inclination to make nor can they be forced to make.

USDA Is Funneling ‘Trade Aid’ to the Agriculture Sector. It’s Old-Fashioned Corporate Welfare.

10th July 2019

Read it.

There is renewed hope for trade talks with China—a welcome development for the American economy. But the damage caused by the fight continues.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is using the situation as an excuse to funnel more taxpayer money to the agricultural industry. It is spending $16 billion on trade aid for farmers affected by the trade fight with China. This is on top of the $12 billion in allegedly “one-time” aid provided to farmers last year in response to trade disputes with various countries, including China.

If this wasn’t bad enough, it now appears the Department of Agriculture plans to use trade aid money to help farmers deal with non-trade-related issues.

A Darker Shade of Pale

10th July 2019

ZMan is not optimistic.

The coalition of the ascendant loves to talk about the glorious future in which they are in complete control. They just assume that everything will be like it is today in a material sense, except they will get to divvy up the goods of the vanquished among themselves, like pirates sharing out a captured treasure. America will just be a swarthier version of what it was in the 1950’s. It is the assumption of people who have fully consumed the multicultural propaganda used to create the coalition of the ascendant.

This vision of the future is no doubt a driving force behind the race radicalism of people like Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar. It assumes things about people that are not true. The old gag about Magic Dirt Theory is a joke among dissidents, but people like Rashida Tlaib think it is real. She thinks if her people move here, displacing the heritage stock, nothing changes but the complexion. Her people will suddenly stop acting like her people and take on the habits of our people, but with more color.

Using chemical analysis of pottery fragments and animal bones found at one of England’s earliest medieval villages, combined with detailed examination of a range of historical documents and accounts, the research has revealed the daily diet of peasants in the Middle Ages. The researchers were also able to look at butchery techniques, methods of food preparation and rubbish disposal at the settlement. Dr Julie Dunne and Professor Richard Evershed from the University of Bristol’s Organic Geochemistry Unit, based within the School of Chemistry, led the research, published this month in the Journal of Archaeological Science.

Is High-Fructose Corn Syrup Worse Than Regular Sugar?

9th July 2019

Read it.

Popular Science takes a break from virtue-signaling and actually does some science for a change.

High-fructose corn syrup has been a scapegoat for American obesity for the past decade and a half, so you might be surprised to learn that sugar and honey both have more fructose than high-fructose corn syrup.

Let’s break down the numbers here. Despite its misleading name, the most commonly used form of HFCS only has 42 percent fructose in comparison to table sugar’s 50 percent. Honey, the beloved natural sweetener, has 49 percent. Standard corn syrup doesn’t have any fructose because it’s 100 percent glucose, which explains how HFCS got its name: it was a kind of corn syrup with more fructose than normal.

This is true for every form of natural sugar you see advertised on organic food because sucrose, the molecule you know as sugar, is made up of one fructose molecule and one glucose molecule. Honey is a bit different, as its fructose and glucose molecules aren’t bound together, but instead are free-floating—much more like HFCS.

“People say you should use honey, but what’s interesting about honey is that because the sucrose is split apart [into glucose and fructose], you can fit a lot more of those molecules into a tablespoon,” says Andrea Giancoli, a registered dietician and consulting expert on dietary policy. “A tablespoon of honey has more calories than a tablespoon of table sugar.”
