Ace of Spades is pretty cynical.
I imagine that he’s been reassured by certain factions that he will get corporate support if he runs for president, and that he’ll get corporate gigs after he loses. So I don’t think he really cares about elective politics anymore anyway.
The Ruling Class protects its pawns. (To some extent, at least.)
Don’t think of it as selling out; think of it as buying in.

Last weekend a mob of illegal immigrants — who styled themselves the “Black Vests” — occupied the Charles de Gaulle Airport outside Paris and staged a rally against French migration policy. One of the migrants (speaking in Arabic, which was translated into French) said:
“France does not belong to the French! All Africa has a right to be here!”
If you think that the United States has an immigration problem, well, it could be a lot worse.
It will be interesting to see how long the French people (as opposed to the French government) are willing to put up with this.

The Reformation centered around Luther’s message that truth is found in Scripture alone, or sola scriptura. It seems astonishing that such a message could change into more or less its exact opposite. The Reformation tried to put the West on the narrow road of the Bible. But the path had two side-alleys: The increased focus on the believer’s personal relationship with God, and the weakened bonds to the Catholic Church, could result in individuals taking control of religiosity and politicians taking control of the church, leaving both the church and the Bible on the sidelines.

ZMam has a bone to pick.
One of the irritating things about reading anything that strives to be academic is the thicket of citations throughout the text. It’s not just the end notes and footnotes, but the constant references to the work of others. Often, the text reads like a summary of the work in the field, rather than something original. Just as often, the text has the feel of a paper turned in by a teenager, trying to prove they did their homework. It is not just bad writing, it is a waste of time. It is disrespectful of the reader.
It’s not just a stylistic thing, but a reflection of something that has happened in the intellectual classes of American society. It used to be that an intellectual mastered a subject in order to build on it. The point of his labor was not to prove he had read everyone in the field. The point was to find the gaps in his field and use the source material as a foundation for filling some of those gaps. In other words, the academic added to his field, rather than maintained it like a curator of a museum.
Try an academic journal. They’re even worse.

Jared Diamond, who became a famous public intellectual when his 1997 best-seller Guns, Germs, and Steel was widely proclaimed to have refuted The Bell Curve by arguing that the variation in achievement among races today is a cultural side effect of ancient differences in agricultural potential among the continents, is now under fire for himself being white.

Baseball’s timeless appeal is predicated upon an equilibrium between pitching and hitting, and in the past, when that equilibrium has been thrown off, the game has always managed, either organically or through small tweaks, to return to an acceptable balance.
But there is growing evidence that essential equilibrium has been distorted by the increasing number of pitchers able to throw the ball harder and faster. Rising pitch velocity has altered the sport, many believe, and not necessarily in a good way.

Integration used to be a major goal of the civil rights movement. But today, in many places, resegregation is the growing trend—particularly on college campuses. A new National Association of Scholars report finds that 7 out of 10 colleges surveyed are having separate graduations for those of certain racial or ethnic backgrounds. Dion Pierre of the National Association of Scholars joins us to discuss. Read the interview, posted below, or listen to the podcast.
We saw this coming during the 1970s — at college a lot of the black students would all sit together in the dining halls, and eventually some schools established black-only residence halls.

[New York] City Department of Education brass are targeting a “white-supremacy culture” among school administrators — by disparaging ideas like “individualism,” “objectivity” and “worship of the written word,” The Post has learned.
A presentation slide obtained by The Post offers a bullet-point description of the systemic, supposedly pro-white favoritism that Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza claims must be eradicated from the DOE, and provides just one insight into his anti-bias training efforts.

It has been about a week since the Working Group on Syria, Propaganda and Media (WGSPM) published a leaked internal document from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) investigation into an alleged chemical attack in Douma, Syria last year. The document, whose authenticity the OPCW has confirmed, contends that the official story which was used to justify an air strike by the US, UK and France about poison gas being dropped on civilians from Syrian government helicopters is scientifically implausible, saying “In summary, observations at the scene of the two locations, together with subsequent analysis, suggest that there is a higher probability that both cylinders were manually placed at those two locations rather than being delivered from aircraft.”

Eventually the twisted arm will break. Will Iran see the light before then? Hard to say, since the people who are suffering under economic sanctions aren’t the ruling clique, but the poor beggars in the street. In the old days, the classic outcome was an uprising and ‘regime change’, but that’s less and less likely s the technological tools of the State grow more and more effective.
We shall see.

ZMan does a deep dive.
Privacy is something that has become a front burner topic for everyone, because every day we are treated to stories about how corporations are spying on us. They harvest information from our daily routines, put it into databases and then use it to push ads on us wherever we turn. They are now inserting surveillance devices in our homes to listen in on us as we go about our daily routines. Of course, no one knows how much is done with government blessing and cooperation, but we know it is there.
Of course, the fact that everyone is worried about this issue means the politicians never speak of it. The old Joe Sobran line was that America is a country where the political parties are significantly to the Left of their voters. Today, when Left and Right are meaningless artifacts from a bygone era, both parties simply make sure to never address the concerns of the people. While Democrats are analyzing spectral evidence for signs of Russian gremlins, the GOP is thanking you for not smoking.

If you are “passionate about social justice issues,” you may well be not quite smart enough to pass the bar exam and therefore wind up stuck with $200k in law school loans but no career.
Fortunately for the Law School Admission Council, luring marginal minds into going to law school is NOT a social justice issue.
One of the reasons our culture is self-destructing is … Social Justice Warriors who have gone to law school. Sure, they may not be able to pass the bar exam, but then they wind up on CNN or MSNBC, at the New York Times or Washington Post, or working for the Deep State — where they can do more damage than in a court room.
